Will there be ways for fighters to use magic, such as learning spells or supernatural abilities, without multiclassing?

I am terrible at playing casters because I am terrible at remembering how spells work. With cards like these, it would be like giving my wizard character's spellbook a physical form for actual reference. Plus, I wouldn't be that guy at the table always hogging the book and slowing the game down when I look up spells.

So, which is better: the Spell Index chapter in the book or specially selected cards for the occaision?

We'll call it a draw ;)

A large hunk of superfluous text has been removed from the documents. Hopefully, it won't be as front loaded as before.

khadgar567, I see what you're going for, and admire your enthusiasm. But I think you'll be more able to get your desired effect through roleplaying, rather than relying purely on the game mechanics. I hope this helps!

I have included the "Torment Prey" talent in the Horror Vigilante Talents section. Please let me know if it fits your diabolical needs. Quality customer sick-satisfaction is our prime goal.

Run, while you still can, to the Vigilantes of Horror Open Playtest for Purple Duck Games!

Now, the vigilante class can be applied to classic monsters hiding within civilized society. This pdf will allow players to get over their "monster envy" and become the mysterious beast that brings terror to the region. The horror vigilante is the perfect choice for evil campaigns or as an npc villain, with plenty of intrigue and horror talents to spare!

The playtest ends on 9/2/16. We welcome your feedback and suggestions.

Dropped a few comments in the doc! A few notes:

Really loved the flavor you put into the Cycle Thrall- I think that's such an interesting take on a cleric that uses the elements to break out of the life/death cycle.

Also a huge fan of the favored keeper- a holy person with a familiar that shares the connection to their deity is awesome!

And the martyr has a slim chance of being the highlight of a campaign- which is rad.

It's exciting to see an open playtest doc!

Thank you very much for your comments and kind words, Yasumoto!

Also, this is a reminder to everyone that the playtest ends in just two days!

I'm digging the friar archetype. Just seems absolutely perfect for that mental image of the priest in robes with a staff. I may actually use that in a game I'll run soon enough here (maybe a few months though)

As for the hybrid class, I kinda skipped past it because I'm not really any good at that. I can't judge power level at all.

That said the feats seem really unique too. I really enjoy being able to add versatility, which is why I get a kick out of the feats that add spells to the spell list. Even if it means you have to be tied to a specific domain, it makes sense flavor-wise so you're not just gaining the benefits from nowhere.

I know a few other 3rd party archetypes I think that would love that Faithslinger feat. I also enjoy the image of the gun-wielding priest, and something I'd love to setup as well in a more "wild west" style campaign

Sepik121, you've made my day! Thank you for the kind words! Enjoy the friar in your game.

EDIT: The firearms and holy water bomb feats are awesome.

Thanks for the kind words, Azten!

Come all ye faithful!
The Clerics of Porphyra Open Playtest begins today and extends to August 19th 2016. It is hosted on Google Docs. I and Purple Duck Games look forward to your feedback for this new upcoming product. This playtest includes:

-12 cleric archetypes
-1 cleric/cavalier hybrid class
-1 domain and 1 subdomain
-10 cleric-related feats
-List of deity favored musical instruments for the Porphyra setting.

I would like to create a new thread for an open playtest hosted on Google Docs. What is the best way to do this?
The playtest is for the upcoming "Clerics of Porphyra" for Purple Duck Games. Mark Gedak has given me permission to host this open playtest.

Thank you very much.

Disclaimer: I was given a free pdf by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have nothing negative to say about this class or its many options. The author draws inspiration from many parts of real world ninja history and lore and applies Eastern-flavored elemental spirituality and philosophy. There are a LOT of options to choose from.

I recommend this to any player who wants to add a new "element" to their stealthy characters.

Revolutions cause aura effects that deal damage and augment abilities. It's basically a form of energy pool.

Here is the Mandali Class, inspired by numerous historical traditions that depict the universe as a complex circle. This a psychic spellcaster with spells borrowed from nearly every spell list in the core rulebook. However, the spells were carefully selected in accordance to the theme of the class, which is the cyclical motions of life and death, creation and destruction.

I would appreciate any and all feedback to improve this idea. Feel free to be creative or destructive.

Charisma Damage (Su) A shadow's touch deals 1d6 points of Charisma damage to a living creature. This is a negative energy effect. A creature dies if this Charisma damage equals or exceeds its actual Charisma score.

A silhouette is a form of shadow that had once been a shapechanger, such as a doppelganger or mimic. These undead hunger not for mere life force, but form and identity. They are ever in search of beautiful beings to replace, if only for a day and a night.

Well, I'm hooked...

Cool stuff!

Here was my attempt to improve the commoner class.

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2oh5v?Commoner-Class-Abilities-and-an-added-Arc hetype

Okay, thank you everyone for setting me straight on this. I just had to be sure.

I'm planning to playing a Paladin/Mesmerist, and I would like to know if I can add my CHA Bonus to my Will saves three times over using Divine Grace, The Steadfast Personality Feat, and Towering Ego. Can these actually stack? Here are rules for quick reference:

-Divine Grace (Su): At 2nd level, a paladin gains a bonus equal to her Charisma bonus (if any) on all saving throws.

-Steadfast Personality
You rely on your sense of self to keep your mind clear.
Benefit: Add your Charisma modifier instead of your Wisdom bonus to Will saves. If you have a Wisdom penalty, you must apply both your Wisdom penalty and your Charisma modifier.

-Towering Ego (Su): At 2nd level, a mesmerist gains a bonus equal to his Charisma bonus (minimum 0) on Will saving throws. If the mesmerist is under any effect that would prevent him from providing the emotional component of psychic spells, he loses this bonus on saving throws.

Run (Ex):
At second level, the speedster gains run as a bonus feat. In addition to this, whenever the speedster takes the run action...

I would like you to sweeten this deal. Typically whenever a class gains a feat as a class feature, they get a little more out of it than normal. Just look at the Alchemist's Throw Anything feature, and you'll see what I mean.

199. A pair of planet-sized black holes that function as ring gates, enabling faster travel through the system.

Just for the sake of variety.

Abjuration = Muzzle
Conjuration = Oil Lamp (Aladdin style)
Divination = Dice
Enchantment = Slave's Collar
Evocation = Firearm
Illusion = Portrait/Tapestry
Necromancy = Shovel
Transmutation = Rabbit's Foot

I invite you to check out my Aeonic Paladin

I agree that there is a vacuum for both of these ideas. I would like to see them happen.

Thank you all. I recently found out that "Dragonrider" already exists as a base class in Pathfinder. I'm going back to the drawing board with this thing. It needs an overhaul.

To Mortonator. I threw this thing together in a day. Yes, much copy and pasting did occur because a) it is a hybrid class, and b) I wanted to help insure correct wording. Hopefully the next draft won't look so patched together.

Bump
By the way, I changed the class name to Wyrmknight.

99. The Wedding Gown of the Unknown Bride

This old, yet elegant white gown is made of the finest samite, but has yellowed with age. It stands in the corner, supported by a rosewood manikin.

Hook: The manikin is actually a dryad corpse graveknight, and the gown is her armor. The only way to end her murderous ways is to physically carry her out of the mansion, over the threshold.

Why does the dragon use animal HD and not Eidolon (outsider) HD or dragon HD?

Does the rider get any casting? Does the rider get any to-hit bonuses?

It would be interesting if the dragon shared the rider's pseudo-challenge bonuses.

The dragon mount is animal-like in nature and, for balance purposes, advances like an animal companion.

No casting. This is not meant as a gish class. However, bonuses to combat rolls might be found in the society abilities that are not yet written.

Agreed. Perhaps that can also be factored into the society abilities.

First off, thank you to Nathan Monson and his Dragon Rider archetype for inspiring this hybrid class idea.

This is just a first draft that I started early this morning. I hope that, potentially, it meets everyone's dragonriding needs.

Dragonrider

Cyrad wrote:

Arcanemuses has a good suggestion. In fact, it sounds pretty fun to homebrew.

It's also worth mentioning that in mythology, not all dragons can fly or have wings. It's not unreasonable to start out with a wingless dragon.

Thank you, Cryad. Shall we have a brew-off then? I'm sure that if we both focus on it separately, before comparing drafts, we might be able to develop something awesome for Paizo, or at least our fellow gamers.

I propose to make Dragonrider a hybrid class of Summoner and Cavalier. Start out with a special dragon mount that is little different than a horse (no working wings yet), as well as an Order that corresponds with the dragon's color/kind. As you level, the dragon gain evolutions to become bigger and more dragony. It should be a purely martial class without spellcasting. Just a knightly BA on a BA dragon.

Ciaran Barnes wrote:

You want to play a monster and add class levels, or is there a playable race?

Shapeshifter ranger?

I would like both. Also, good suggestion. I'm suggestion/requesting archetypes for any and all classes that make sense for four-legged creatures.

I'm planning on leveling my kamadan with Mutation Warrior, as it does away with and replaces all the armor based class features. I think it better, thematically, that my PC not need armor.

I started a new game, and on a whim I chose to play a Kamadan. I have really grown attached to this character in a short time, and would like to level him as in a class. The only problem is all the classes and archetypes are geared toward bipedal creatures.

So, there is a need...

I'm sure I'm not the only person who has wanted to play a quadrupedal creature and gain class levels with it. So please consider it, Paizo :)

Also, new quadrupedal races that are defined by class levels would be cool, too!

Thanks for hearing me out!

Great job amending the spell, Fernn. I like it!

Wow! Love the responses! They had me rolling!

Does it just fail if the target doesn't have ears?

What about if the target has more than 2 ears?

The classes that can learn it feel a bit off. Why not druid?

I honestly ripped the idea off the ironbeard spell. I wanted to make an elf equivalent. To answer your questions..

Yes.

Number of ears does not count.

Druid 1 should be included.

Mithril Ears

This is a racial spell created for elves and half-eves. Characters or creatures of other races can learn to cast it with GM permission.

School transmutation; Level antipaladin 1, cleric 1, magus 1, paladin 1, ranger 1

CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S

EFFECT
Range touch
Target creature touched
Duration 1 minute/level
Saving Throw Fort negates (harmless);
Spell Resistance yes (harmless)

DESCRIPTION
This spell causes the ears of a willing target to become stiff, sharp and metallic. The mithril ears grant a +2 perception rolls. The mithril ears may also be used as a gore attack equivalent to mithril-coated horns. The gore damage is based on ear size and ear shape (1d8 for elves and goblins, 1d4 for half-eves, half-orcs, and halflings, 1d3 for humans and dwarves. The mithril ears make it difficult to go unnoticed, so any stealth checks are at a -4 penalty.

Okay, it's nearly 3 AM here in Kansas City, and the muses just whispered in my ears. The antipaladin is a decent alternate class for the paladin. And going off the naming of this alternate class, I propose the following alternate class names. What their roles and alignments are, I'll leave up to you my fellow homebrewers.

Demipaladin
Semipaladin
Quasipaladin
Cosmopaladin
Retropaladin
Dinopaladin

I've homebrewed several different classes/archetypes that can grant themselves, their pets and/or their allies temporary eidolon evolutions to buff them. I think it's a very cool and fun way of providing buffs, since evolutions are so flexible. It's also obviously very powerful, so one has to be careful with how to calibrate the number of evolutions granted, evolutions per day, possibly evolutions "known", et cetera. Still, I think it would be a cool summoner archetype. Personally I think I would like it more, flavor-wise, as an alchemist archetype that can create some kind of "evolutionary serum" to inject people with, but that's just a personal quirk. I loves me some weird science in my fantasy. :)

Cheers,
- Gears

Yes! I agree that, thematically, it would serve as a good alchemist archetype!

I was reading over the Synthesist and the Primal Companion Hunter, and it occurred to me that it would be really cool to have a PC with a malleable pool of evolution points they could use to boost themselves and allies/party members/pets. We could call it the Evolver, or something. Basically a new kind of buffing/boosting mage.
Thoughts?

Martial Flexibility doesn't seem to mesh well with the sorcerer's low BAB. Perhaps, when conceiving ideas for this idea, you could focus less on the taijutsu aspect and more on the ninjutsu and genjutsu aspects. I would LOVE to see this as a bloodline for both sorcs and bloodragers, btw. Uchiha are known to have mean tempers.

Either a halberd or a naginata. If you want to make a Guan Yu type character, use the stats for a lance, but change the damage to slashing. He was supposedly a heckuva mounted warrior.

Thank you ALL, very very much, for your in depth and insightful feedback. It will help me build a better, more balanced class. I'm going to sit on it for a while more, as it is far from ready to be hatched.

Casual Viking and Cyrad, thank you for your invaluable feedback. I realize that I still have a long way to go. That said...

-I want the class to be mixed bag with plenty of room for customization, without sacrificing balance.

-Nothing about the class is "at will". The maxim points the class uses for their powers are limited to their key mental ability score + level.

-I want this class to avoid spell referencing all together, with the exception of the major and minor spell maxim powers. It is my goal to not need to write "as per the BLANK spell" when describing a power or ability. All necessary information should be contained in one spot. I know, this may be impossible.

-I will make another pass and refine my next draft based on your much appreciated feedback, and keep it all contained on this thread.
