Anol was born on a temperate hillside to a woman deemed unfit for battle, so the soldiers in his battalion were hesitant to train him. This low status is likely what compelled him to agree to ally himself with a dragon. The beast's plan was to overtake a human frontier settlement, and loot it's valuables. The dragon's stipulation: that the valuables were the dragon's and the dragon's alone.

With his help, it was a task easily done. But more importantly for Anol, a mercenary warlord witnessed the event, and took it upon himself to train the young hobgoblin as his soldier. The old hobgoblin brought Anol to his home near the same hills where the boy was born. It wasn't long before Alon was allowed to ride a young dire wolf.

It was on the back of this wolf named Husom that the young hobgoblin finally felt complete, from that point forward the other members of the battalion would rue the day they didn't train this young samurai.
