Hey crew. I'm really sorry, but it's looking like I'm going to have to drop out. Life has taken a strange turn in the last few weeks and I don't have the time to keep up. Sorry again, and I hope it goes well.

Sorry! For some reason I thought I was waiting on you.

After listening to the mayor's brief speech and spending a few moments watching the theatre that follows, Anduil focuses on keeping Jin in his sights. There is something strange about the halfling - not only a cultural oddity, but a strong sense of something hidden. As the pair move deeper into the crowd Anduil grabs a small plate of salmon. He favours the server with a cheerful smile as thanks, but keeps his attention mostly on Jin - watching especially as the mask comes off.

What is about to happen?
What should I be on the lookout for?
What here is not what it appears to be?

At the mention of adventure, Anduil visibly brightens - he stands taller, and grins with renewed enthusiasm.

"A quest! I'd be happy to accompany you in this endeavor", the elf begins, then pauses thoughtfully.

"You're an arcanist then? I don't suppose you know anything about the boy who was cursed just now, do you..?"

Anduil's tone is playful. It's clear that he doesn't see the prank as anything too terrible.

Anduil raises an eyebrow as the halfling gestures, but assumes that the odd hand movement is a simple greeting.

"A wizard? I'm afraid not, not in this part of the world. May I ask what your need is? There may be someone at the festival who can help you, especially as you're a worshiper of Desna."

As he speaks, Anduil gestures towards the gathering crowds in the center of the town.

I think it will be fine, so long we're careful to make 'teaming up' plausible later.

Spotting the masked halfling watching him, Anduil raises an eyebrow inquisitively before approaching, stopping a few paces away and giving a quick nod in response.

“Hello!”, he begins brightly, apparently unfazed by Jin’s curtness.
“It’s always a pleasure to meet a follower of the lady. I’m Anduil. It’s a pleasure to meet you..?”

That mask is quite distinctive, and Anduil is a well travelled adventurer; has he come across any knowledge about this culture before?

At the mention of a curse, Anduil gives Father Zantus a sharp glance. The priest seems mostly unconcerned, but still, a curse.. perhaps this is the thread to follow next? Where there's magic there's often adventure to be found, after all. Giving the boy another reassuring smile, Anduil rises to greet Father Zantus properly.

"Anduil Ebribor, and yes - I'm a devotee of the goddess and happened to be in this part of the world. I'm looking forward to it - will you be leading the celebration?"

Having shaken Abstalar's hand, Anduil quickly glances around the gathered people, looking for anyone unusual or out of place.

As he makes eye contact with the robed man, Anduil gives him his best 'I had nothing to do with this!' smile and raises a hand in greeting.

"Good morning!", he says cheerily, before doing an almost comical doubletake at the crying child. "Is there some kind of a trouble?"

Anduil kneels down to get onto the child's eye-level and gives the old man a reassuring nod. Then he looks the child in the eyes, very seriously, and waits for a response. This is probably nothing, but it's worth taking the time to make the child feel better - and you never know. It could be the start of a wonderful adventure!

With the sun well risen, and the scent of the sea on the breeze, it isn't long before Anduil makes his way towards the center of town.

He'd arrived in town late the previous night, and having quickly befriended a carpenter who lived nearby, spent the night drinking the last of his brandy and telling tall tales to the young man and his family. They'd apparently enjoyed his company - but the new day meant new adventures to be found, and so, despite the slight hangover, Anduil is up, (well)dressed, and wandering into town. He smiles happily at passers-by, and heads towards where the babble of conversation is loudest.

James is disdainful of heroics and adventurers, so maybe Anduil could attempt to change his mind.

I like this one I think - a skillful fighter who just doesn't Do adventure is almost blasphemous to Anduil.

Anduil again. Possibly Mae if I don't know her religion, or maybe even if I do and think I could turn her.

This seems like Anduil to me. He's a solid fighter, though probably not a match for James - but he doesn't look the part at all.

You know, it strikes me that dwarves are basically designed to make D&D style play work. They build sprawling underground complexes, collect treasure, craft items, and are prone to awaking ancient evils or disturbing subterranean threats (which kill them and take their dungeon). They basically show up and build location-adventures.

Anduil studied swordfighting at his family estate, which is situated just outside a major city - not the one nearest Sandpoint, but the next closest. (I assume we're using Golarion as a base, making the city Korvosa?) As the second son of a noble family, Anduil was taught the noble arts - dueling, riding, hunting, painting and rhetoric. Despite being an easily distracted student he proved to have a natural flair for the blade. His instructor, an ex-adventurer named Elegon, made sure that he was a competent fighter outside the ring.

He was an adventurer long before he was a worshipper of Desna. After a disagreement with his father lead to his departure from home, Anduil took up adventuring, believing that he could do some good with his skills (and earn enough gold to keep himself in the style he was accustomed.) The first proved to be true, though the second has been.. inconsistent.

During a voyage through the depths of a forest, rumoured to be enchanted, Anduil caught a glimpse of the goddess running through the trees. It was night, and the starlight glimmered on her long hair and her bright eyes. She was laughing, leaping over fallen trees with ease, and her laughter carried her divine essence: daring, luck, joy, adventure. She caught Anduil's eyes as she passed and smiled at him, and he's been in love with her ever since. He's learnt a lot about the goddess in the decades since then, and swears he can feel her presence at times, encouraging him.

The worship of Desna is very rare in elves, as she is the goddess of travelers. Elves are diverse, but almost always settled. They establish a community (a forest, a noble house, a citadel) and they tend to it for centuries. Anduil gets away with his eccentricity through personal charisma, but more conservative elves often view him with distrust.

I'd like to tie this character closer to some others in answering that last question; does anyone have any ideas for how the characters are connected (if at all?) My bonds are:

• ___ realizes just how great I am.
• ___ is someone I can rely on to make me look good.
• ___ needs to work on their appearance.
• ___ needs education on this heroing business, and I will provide it whether they want it or not.

Hm, that's interesting. I guess we'll see how it plays!

Sheet's up on this alias. Does anyone else think that the elf racial move is a bit underwhelming though?
