Some strategic 5 foot steps would definitely help.

Turing to the group with a puzzled look, Alan asks, "I wonder what these images mean?"

With a hmmm, Alan walks over and gets the plank, setting it across the pit.
"So...does anyone want to go down and check out the bundle down there?"

Alan looks through the items. "If no one objects," he says, "I'll take the Wand of Burning Hands, Acid and Alchemist Flasks."
Alan studies the pit for a moment. What is the object in the water?

Moving back 10 feet, Alan takes a running start and attempts to clear the pit.
Take 10 in acrobatics for a 14 to jump over the pit.
He peers down the passageway upon barely clearing the obstacle.

Not seeing anything significant, he turns back towards the group and says, "Toss a rope over here and I'll find an anchor point."

Alan smiles at this new piece of information. "Thanks Janira!" he exclaims. "I think we should pay those Pharasmans a visit. Are there any gifts we can bring them to sweeten the pot?"

Alan struggled with the inscriptions. "Failed to maintain the sixteen poses? Lived a long life of silence and serenity? Aren't these supposed to be Pathfinders who died in the course of duty? These don't seem very impressive."
He tries to compare these particular inscriptions with the others.
Do these stand out in terms of tone or deed? Trying to identify a pattern here.

I noticed I'm inside on the map. I can't move my icon for some reason. Can you move me back to just outside by the door?
Alan is paranoid now. Staying outside, he peeks his head in and scans the room, including ducking to peek under the sofa, looking for signs of trouble and disbelieving everything he sees.

"An illusion huh?" Alan muses as he looks at Vindler. "Perhaps this door is not really here."
He walks up to the front door and stares intently at it.
