Since this is both a private game as well as a continuation of another game, and I already have some idea as to who will be participating in this campaign (due to active recruitment on my part), we're going to handle this like before.

My players will post their characters here, along with a description of them.

Its been just over 10 days since the Battle of the Bloodmarch Hill was fought and the town of Trunau is undergoing reconstruction. Despite the victory earned that night, the overall mood of the traditionally stoic townsfolk has been somber. Friends and family had been lost, and the town's safety threatened. Were it not for the efforts of a few, the ones known simply as Team Ruby, who had been assembled together on the night of their namesake's Hopeknife Ceremony, more surely would have been lost.

And that is why the citizens have gathered around the Flame of the Fallen this day, to mourn the lives taken as well as commemorate the actions of the heroes.

High Priestess Tyari Varvatos officiates the ceremony, beginning by consecrating the flame with sacred herbs before receiving the hopeknives of the fallen and performing a requenching before returning them to their respective family members or those designated to act in their stead. The last to be done was Rodrick Grath, a member of the militia and poet laureate of Trunau.

Mood Music: Apocalyptica - Hole In My Soul

As she heated the knife in the flames, the blade takes on a pure black hue. After it was done, Tyari hands the hopeknife to a visibly shaken and grieving Brinya, Rodrick's fiancee.

One by one, the citizens of Trunau take up the chant of the town's official anthem, The Ballad of the Bloodmarch in memory of its author.

Moonday ends when the drums of war begin.
Main Gate is trampled as orcs charge the hill.
Toilday we fight back, but to our chagrin,
Two of us drop for every one we kill.
Wealday passes as our boots pound the dirt;
With blood, sweat, and tears we refuse to fall.
Oathday our Sanctuary heals the hurt,
Orders to hold call from Ivory Hall
Fireday the Flame of the Fallen burns
For those who we cannot let die in vain.
Starday shines as our will to live returns,
Slaughtering the horde until none remain.
For the only hope we know in this life,
Is one that gleams at the end of a knife.

Just what the subject says. I can't seem to access my active campaign other than the description. Clicking any other link brings up the page numbers but no other content.

Jubilation fills the evening air in the normally staid town of Trunau, for it was the twelfth birthday of the Chief Defender’s youngest daughter, Ruby, and the townsfolk had been preparing all day for the ceremony and festivities to follow. A throng of spectators amassed at the town Commons; the buzz of the crowd subsided as the weathered town leader, Halgra of the Blackened Blades, took the stage and began to speak:

Thank you all for joining us this night. I take immense pride in my responsibility as Chief Defender, especially when it comes to the honor of the hopeknife ceremony. It is always a great privilege to bequeath Trunauan youths their hopeknives as they come of age.

Halgra stoppped speaking long enough to open an ornamental case and retrieve a slender, ornately decorated dagger hanging from a silver chain. It was similar to the necklace worn by yourself and other residents of Trunau.

But tonight is a special occasion, for the recipient of this hopeknife is none other than my youngest daughter. Again, Halgra paused, but this time she turned to talk to the child beside her.
Ruby, by the traditions of our town, you have come of age. This hopeknife represents your responsibilities as an adult and defender of Trunau. You must be willing to use it on yourself, your fellow Trunauans, and your family - even me, should it come to that. It will be a far quicker death than that which the orcs will offer, and providing it is your duty. Do you swear to guard Trunau from all comers, and to use your hopeknife only for its intended purpose?

Ruby - dusky skinned, black haired, and painfully shy — nodded her head in response to her mother’s question.

If the orcs come, and there is no other option, this is where you cut — here, here, and here.

Halgra demonstrated which arteries to sever while Ruby watched. When she was finished, Halgra sheathed the hopeknife and placed the necklace around Ruby’s neck before turning back to address the crowd.

Tonight, Ruby becomes a full member of our community! Let us welcome her, and celebrate her passage into adulthood! Trunau forever! The crowd echoed Halgra’s last words in unison, signaling the end of the ceremony.

As I didn't know where else to go, I've come here. I'm a first time DM here on this forum and I'm having problems seeing posts in the DM Blayde MacRonan's Giantslayers Gameplay thread. I've tried posting the opening for the campaign twice, but each time it never showed up so that I or my players can read it and now I'm worried that I've done something wrong. Is there something that I need to do on my end, because if there is, I don't know what it might be. Or do I just have someone here sort this out?

Silver Crusade

I'm new to running a PBP on these forums, even though I've played in several in the past, so I'm at a loss. I want to go ahead and get things started, so I've tried to set-up the gameplay thread with an opening post (twice counting today) for DM Blayde MacRonan's Giantslayer. But I can't see either post at all on my end. Is there something else I need to do, besides bring it to your attention?

Silver Crusade

Since this is a private game and I already have some idea as to who will be participating in this campaign (due to active recruitment on my part), we're going to do something a little different here in this thread.

Post your characters, along with a description of them.

I have a question. If I order something but it is sent to a different address than my current one and it's sent back to you, what would I have to do to actually get it? Because that happened with my hardcover of Bestiary 5. I thought I had changed the shipping address and it turns out that when I checked today, I hadn't.

Congrats to Iammars. Good job!

Not a lot of info, other than he died due to injuries from a fall, even with the other link in the Kotaku article. I was really bummed to find this out.

Hello, I wish to have this order cancelled. I'm currently not in a position to be able to pay for it at this time.

Thanks.

I have a player that wants to try out a new oracle mystery. I've looked it over, but I'll admit that I'm no expert on things spellcaster based so I come to the community for a critique of this homebrew mystery and suggestions to improve it. The player and I will be checking in when we can (he can also answer any questions you may put forth as well).

And with out further fanfare:

Death Mystery:

Class Skills: An oracle of Death gains Intimidate, Ride and Perception to her list of class skills.

Bonus Spells: Ray of Enfeeblement (2nd), Haunting Mists (4th), Fractions of Heal and Harm (6th), Shadow Conjuration (8th), Shadow Evocation (10th), Dirge of the Victorious Knights (12th), Greater Shadow Conjuration (14th), Greater Shadow Evocation (16th), Shades (18th)

Revelations

An oracle of the Death mystery can choose from the list of following revelations:

Channel Death (Su): You can channel negative energy like a cleric, using your oracle level as your effective cleric level when determining the amount of damaged caused (or healed to undead) and the DC. If you are healed via negative energy, using this on yourself is a swift action, as Lay on Hands. This energy can also be focused into controlling undead, as the feat. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma Modifier.

Blasphemy (Ex): Your time amongst the dead has changed your entire fundamental concept of what it is to be alive. Your Cha modifier now replaces your Con modifier when determining hit points and fortitude saves. You also heal via negative energy and take damage from positive energy. However, this act of corruption has angered those in power that would deem your transformation an utter blasphemy. When you take damage from positive energy, the damage is increased by 50%.

Ray of Judgment (Su): You cast cure or inflict spells as rays with a range of close (25ft. +5ft./level). This requires an attack roll and keeps the implied benefits and penalties (the chance to both critically hit and miss as normal, etc.)

Beacon of Negative Energy (Su): As a standard action, you can transform your body into pure negative energy, resembling an opaque being of billowing void. In this form, you gain the elemental subtype and give off a cold, damning aura that decreases the light level within 10 feet by one step, down to complete darkness. You can easily see through this darkness. However, attacks against you gain a 20% miss chance in dim light and a 50% miss chance in complete darkness, as per concealment. Any living creature successfully striking you with a natural or handheld weapon deals normal damage, but at the same time the attacker takes 1d4 points of negative energy damage + 1 point per oracle level and you heal for the same amount. Creatures wielding melee weapons with reach are not subject to this damage if they attack you. If you grapple or attack a living creature using unarmed strikes or natural weapons, you may deal this damage in place of the normal damage for the attack. Once per round, if you pass through a living creature's square or they pass through yours, they take this same damage. If you heal via negative energy, you gain fast healing 5 for the duration of this ability. You may choose whether or not to harm (or heal, in the case of undead) a creature when it passes through your space. You may return to your normal form as a free action. You may remain in Beacon form for a number of rounds per day equal to your oracle level.

Winter Revelation: You may select from the following revelations from the Winter Mystery: Cold Aura, Freezing Spells, Ice Armor, Servant of Winter. You must meet all prerequisites of the revelation.

Juju Revelation: You may select from the following revelations from the Juju Mystery: Dream Haunter, Natural Divination, Spirit Vessels, Path of the Snake. You must meet all prerequisites of the revelation.

Bones Revelation: You may select from the following revelations from the Bones Mystery: Armor of Bones, Bleeding Wounds, Soul Siphon, Voice of the Grave. You must meet all prerequisites of the revelation.

Shadow of Death (Su): You add all spells from the Necromancy school to the spells you can emulate with a Shadow Conjuration spell. You also add all spells that have an elemental descriptor to the spells you can emulate when casting a Shadow Evocation spell, but doing so changes that descriptor to [cold]. For example, if you cast Greater Shadow Conjuration, you may choose to emulate Circle of Death, a 6th level Necromancy spell. If you cast Greater Shadow Evocation, you may choose to emulate Firebrand, a 7th level Transmutation [fire] spell, but that descriptor and all relevant attributes change to [cold]. You must be 11th level to select this revelation.

Umbral Dimension (Su):You create a small dimensional space of pure shadow, using it to store anything from items to your undead minions. This functions as a Bag of Holding Type I, changing to Type II at 5th, Type III at 9th, and finally Type IV at 13th. Removing and storing items works as normal, but removing creatures requires time. Type I requires a swift action to remove one medium creature or two small creatures. With Type II, you may take a swift action to remove three medium creatures or one large creature. Type III, as a swift action you may remove two large creatures or one huge creature. Type IV, as a swift action you may remove two huge creatures or one gargantuan creature. Removing anything larger than what is indicated here is a full round action. Completely emptying the dimension takes one minute per type number, ie Type I takes one minute while Type III takes three minutes, during which time you are flat-footed. The gateway appears where you indicate and remains as all called creatures appear in adjacent spaces.

Lifesense (Su): As a free action, you detect all living creatures within 30ft. This penetrates walls and barriers and all forms of invisibility, as Blindsight. While this is active, you cannot see beyond 30ft. At 5th level and every five levels after that, this ability increases by 30ft, up to a maximum of 150ft at 20th level.

One of Me (Su): At 7th level, you treat all undead as their base types for the purposes of mind-affecting (harmless) affects, such as morale bonuses and buffs emulated with your Shadow spells. You must be at least 7th level to select this revelation.

Final Revelation

You become a being of pure undead shadow. You gain the elemental subtype and all undead within 50ft of you gain fast healing 10. Further, your command of undead is unquestioned. Any undead that fails its will save is permanently under your control, regardless of intelligence or immunities. This control can only be subsumed by someone whose caster level is higher than yours.

I've taken care of the issue that prevented you from charging my account for this order today. Sorry about the inconvenience this caused. Everything should be fine and you should be able to charge my account for the item in question.

Silver Crusade

2 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

I was looking at the witchguard on the PFSRD and notice the defend charge ability:

Defend Charge (Ex)
At 4th level, a witchguard forms a bond with a spellcaster he has sworn to defend. Once per day, this bond allows the witchguard to spend a move action to grant an adjacent spellcaster a +2 dodge bonus to AC and a +2 circumstance bonus on concentration checks.

At 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter, these bonuses increase by 2. The bonuses last for a number of rounds equal to the witchguard’s Wisdom modifier (minimum 1).

At 4th level and every 3 levels thereafter, the witchguard can use this ability one additional time per day.

This ability replaces hunter’s bond.

Going by the strictest reading of this, it means that at 4th lvl the witchguard provides a +2 dodge bonus to AC and a +2 circumstance bonus on concentration checks. Fine, I got that. But does that mean the witchguard can use the ability 2 times per day at 4th rather than 1/day or is that a typo?

I want very much to get this but I've got just enough funds to be taken out for the Pathfinder Online Kickstarter and I won't have the money for this order until next Tuesday. How soon will the order ship? I want to pay for both but if I have to drop one, then I will (more likely the Kickstarter than than the Paizo order).

Silver Crusade

While I want to get the Bestiary 3, I'm currently between jobs and have no desire to get the Beginner Box. Would it be possible to get this removed from the order? Just trying to maximize my limited funds right now.

I'm also curious as to what the Holiday Card is? Is it the same as last year's or is it something different?

Silver Crusade

I've looked around, but I haven't seen anyone ask this question so I figured that I would.

PFSRD wrote:

Intense Spells (Su): Whenever you cast an evocation spell that deals hit point damage, add 1/2 your wizard level to the damage (minimum +1). This bonus only applies once to a spell, not once per missile or ray, and cannot be split between multiple missiles or rays. This damage is of the same type as the spell. At 20th level, whenever you cast an evocation spell you can roll twice to penetrate a creature's spell resistance and take the better result.

If an evoker crafted wands, would any evocation spell wands (a wand of fireballs, for example) benefit from the Intense Spells ability? I'm thinking it would be yes due to the fact that "...working on the wand triggers the prepared spell, making it unavailable for casting during each day devoted to the wand's creation. (That is, that spell slot is expended from the caster's currently prepared spells, just as if it had been cast)."

Quoted text taken from Crafting Wands PFRPG Core Rulebook pg. 553.

I hope I'm not reading too much into the text for each, but I wanted to know in case the question came up in my games. Because if the answer is indeed yes, then it would mean that anyone capable of using a wand would benefit from it as well.

More info:

Tinker-Tock, as I mentioned above, has been infected with the clockwork plague. However...

Spoiler:

...he was given a magical item by the Pactmasters that unexpectedly (?!) caused the plague itself to evolve so that it no longer poses a danger to its host. However, under the right circumstances, it can still pose a danger to others.

Such an opportunity presented itself when, during the first session of "Shadow in the Sky," he

Spoiler:

infected one of Angvar's goons with clockwork plague. Not prepared for the unexpected turn of events, Tinker-Tock was shocked to discover that the goon was not a "mere" clockwork zombie but in fact something "more" like himself.

Though he tried his best, Tinker-Tock failed to be the father figure needed (due, in combination, to both the events of the adventure spiraling out control as well as some things Tinker-Tock said that proved to come back and bite them all in the proverbial hind-parts). In the end, during the aftermath of "the impact," Tinker-Tock began to receive word of mysterious disappearances and the emergence of a faction bearing the same clockwork parts that he himself bore. His curiosity getting the best of him, Tinker-Tock and Shikaba went to investigate. It wasn't long before the goon (named Artemis by Tinker-Tock) and the two eventually met at the Boneyard (unbeknownst to the PCs, Artemis had just finished "recruiting" the caretaker of the cut to his side).
In the course of talking, both Tinker-Tock and Shikaba soon learned that Artemis had come to realize that his progenitor's plan to aid those in need was, while in itself commendable, a flawed endeavor. When asked what brought him to this conclusion, Artemis essentially laid it out like this:

"The problem is that this concept that you refer to as free-will. So long as it exists, then the sentients of this world will constantly need to be saved from themselves."

When asked by Tinker-Tock what he intended to do, Artemis revealed that he had his own plan:

to assimilate every sentient being that could be assimilated. Those that could not be made a part of the clockwork army would face annihilation.

And to put off the possibility of an attack from Tinker-Tock and Shikaba, Artemis showed them a fraction of his capabilities by transforming into a clockwork spider plated in onyx that was the size of a bull-elephant. At this point, he informed them that he was no longer the lesser being that was once Artemis. He had transcended his progenitor in every way. He was now Salamanca.

(Note: the "oh crap!" look on the entire group's faces at this point was priceless...as was the whole "this is all your fault for messing with things beyond the ken of mortals" spiel that was being tossed at Tinker-Tock's player.) Salamanca had become what Tinker-Tock should have become: a gestalt of inevitable and retriever.

Out of respect for his progenitor, Salamanca would not assimilate any others in Riddleport during the crisis that had gripped the city. Once it was over, however, they would once again be at odds.

Spoiler:

The players do not yet realize that Salamanca has every intention of finding out what the drow is up to as well. What I'm toying with is the idea that he captures Depora outside of Riddleport, assimilates her (he's still keeping his word) and learns of what's going on at Celwynvian. In this way he bypasses the second adventure but is present for the third (the thought of Salamanca pursuing them through the Armageddon Echo would either be awesome in effect if he never actually caught them or a needlessly overpowered TPK should he actually catch them).

However as I see it, he wouldn't kill them. It's not even in his best interests to truly hinder the PCs. Any help he provides would definitely be indirect. In fact, by the time they get to Celwynvian, the PCs will find that

Spoiler:
Salamanca is already there due to his capture of Depora and is dealing with the consequences of waiting for Nolveniss to exit the Echo. He would effectively take Razorthorn out of the equation at that point for the PCs. They will encounter the dragon later, as it strikes me that a clockwork Razorthorn would make an even better adversary for them to deal with in the future.

Salamanca has made things a little more personal for the PCs than it would otherwise had I gone on with the adventure path as written. I'm still not sure how to fully bring things where I envision it going, but I am hoping that where I may miss an opportunity, you'll see it and call it to my attention.

I'm working on an NPC with 9th level Summoner levels and need help building his Eidolon. The Eidolon in question is based on the Kyton from the Bestiary. What would be the best way to go about building it? I'm already thinking of giving it tentacles to simulate the kyton's chain attacks, but are there any other evolutions that I'm not looking at that could be used to make this eidolon work? I'm also not using the Final Playtest version of the summoner (done to simulate the fact that the summoner's eidolon is slightly more powerful than a "normal" [final playtest] eidolon). Not sure if that will make a difference with suggestions but figured it couldn't hurt if you knew. Thanking you in advance for the help.

Silver Crusade

I don't know if this question has been brought up at all, but how exactly does frenzy (frenzied berserker prc) and spell rage (rage mage prc) function with the barbarian rage operating with a point based system? Do you just take the abilities and make them new options under the rage power tree? That would work for frenzy (as you can rage and frenzy at the same time), but not for spell rage (which does not allow for both to be usable at the same time).

Silver Crusade

The characters being used (and their respective settings) are as follows:

A LG Caspian Fighter 3/Gun Mage 8/Pistoleer 6/Gun Mage Captain Adept 5, charismatic leader of a crack team of Illuminated Ones with "interesting" ties to the elves. (Iron Kingdoms)

A LG Idrian Fighter 4/Monk (female) 18, a former insurgent against the Protectorate of Menoth that had been brought into the Order of Illumination after being found alive when her cell had been all but wiped out. (Iron Kingdoms)

A LN Shifter (wildhunt) Ranger 3/Monk 14/Weretouched Master 5, an enlightened hunter that aided in turning back a githyanki invasion force, taking the fight back to Lich Queen herself. (Eberron)

A N Young "Blue" Dragon Rogue 2/Soulknife 3, knowledgeable of many worlds, lost his own world to the invading forces of the Queen of Chaos. (Homebrew)

A LN (w/strong Evil tendencies) Elf Crusader (Asmodeus) 22, first to witness the invasion of the Spider Queen on his home world of Golarion. (Pathfinder RPG)

A NG warforged Ranger-variant (wild shaping)4/Shifter 10/Warshaper 5 (originally a Shoanti Barbarian), a former captive of "alien" forces that was to be a prototype for a shapeshifting soldier that aided in the defeat of the Runelord Karzoug. (Pathfinder RPG)

This is about epic advancement for PCs wishing to play dragons, as these issues only deal with advancing the dragons up to 20th (same with the Draconomicon). Does anyone know how this would work or can anyone give me suggestions as to how this would work? Thanking you in advance for the help.

Silver Crusade

I don't know if this has ever been brought up but since one of the iconics is Andoran, I would like to know what that means as far as being human is concerned. Is there a place set aside in the setting that Andorans come from? If so where is it and what is it like? I ask because one of my players is supposed to be Andoran and he's asked questions about it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Silver Crusade

One thing I've always wondered is this: why isn't the quarterstaff considered a trip weapon? I mean, it is more than just a simple bludgeoning tool. Anyone who either has some skill with its use as a weapon or has seen any kind of action/martial art film can attest to this fact. Whether you use the ends to sweep someone off their feet or use the center to daze and stagger the person back, the result is the same, right? The person hit goes down. So why does this not translate over into the weapon's game mechanic?
