Character Description: Adrian is tall and sturdy for a halfling, standing 3' 4" and weighing close enough to 40 pounds as makes no difference. Sturdy hardly means slow, though, as some few orc raiders have learned to their regret. He's done what he can to grow a full beard, to help him fit in with the dwarves he was raised amongst, but that is not to be his lot in life. His skin is of the unfortunate pale complexion for a caravaner, in that he never tans - he wears a hat to keep his face from burning and peeling, and wears long sleeves and gloves, even in the summer. (This may or may not be true - the clothing gives him plenty of places for hidden knives - but it is, at least, the story that is told and accepted.)
Character Personality: Adrian tends to be a bit more loud and in-your-face than your typical halfling. As one who was bullied a time or five by the larger dwarves he was brought up with, he has learned to essentially not take that crap lying down; he is not afraid to push back, regardless of the size of the pusher. He takes a grim and ironic pleasure from people underestimating him due to his size.
Somewhat surprisingly, he's not as 100% behind personal freedom as many halflings are. While he certainly embraces the concept, his ideal of each individual using their freedom to choose to better the community they live in is a much more dwarven concept than other halflings might be comfortable with.
Character Backstory: Adrian's mother and father, Adria and Gerome, met while escaping from Cheliax. They had temporarily settled in Korvosa, getting married and pregnant in short order, when a wave of unrest against "foreigners" combined with a contingent of Hellknights, convinced them to hitch a ride with a contingent of dwarves from Janderhoff. Adrian was born en route; his mother did not survive his birth by more than a few hours. While his father was his caretaker for much of his early years, he always resented Adrian's survival; as a result, the dwarven families from the neighborhood ended up shaping much of Adrian's attitudes and aptitudes. In a final effort to instill some halfling traditions, Gerome taught the boy the finer points of pointed objects travelling at others at high speeds and the subtle breaking of devices designed to restrain and confound. Much to Gerome's final disappointment, Adrian set out to use his new skills in service to the Janderhoff community - and, as an extra ironic twist, became hired on as a guard for the very caravan in which he had been born.
Adrian hasn't spent much time with this caravan - while he's certainly small and deft, with a good eye for spotting ambushes and sabotage, he hasn't really had much in the way of actual fights yet. The caravan had to alter its route out of Korvosa a short time ago - something about plague and a mad queen - and is now shipping discount arms, armor, and supplies to Trunau. They know there won't be much profit in terms of cash, but they're willing to count spilled orc blood as a profit in their books.
