My current group is having issues with the standard, hit or miss, style of play.

Are there rules, or does anyone have suggestions on ways to add in 'levels of success' as opposed to the old u got a 19, needed a twenty, therefore fail types of things.

Similar to rolemaster etc.

So my rogue just died... sad face. :-(

But this gives me an opportunity to make a new character... happy face. :-)

Heres the deal, its a 3 person party. Two others are an inquisitor and a drood.

We get two traits from the core rulebook, and are level 6. I rolled for stats and got. 16 16 15 15 14 13

Was looking at barbarian, but also wizard or sorcerer. But i can never make up my mind about anything.

And input on what classes you think we need would be awesome.

Can darkvision be extended by anything like a spyglass etc?

Started a campaign recently, and im getting the feeling there will be plenty of undead.

My question is, how do we (a party of a druid, inquisitor and rogue) deal with such enemies? As the rogue i feel useless, with a dagger and a hand crossbow as my main weapons im pushing d4 damage with no sneak attack.

My recent campaign involves a LN Inquisitor of Iomadae. He says his mission in life is to destroy evil.

My rogue is of LE alignment, the inquisitor is convinced that if he detects evil on me and finds i am evil it is in his nature to kill me.

This to me seems rediculous, almost as if he thinks he can kill me without any issue of alignment or religion etc.

My question is, how do i tell him he doesnt have to kill something just because of its alignment. That seems 'unlawful' to me.

I will soon begin a campaign organised around a city. This is very exciting for me, as ive been looking at more social based characters and cant wait to try one out.

Personally, i love the flavour of the master spy. The idea of amazing infiltration, taking on other personas etc, it sounds awesome to me.

My question is, the rogue/bard debate, i like the idea of a more rogue based character but the skills and spells of the bard is also hard to walk past.

I have access to the Core Rulebook and the APG. 2 Traits from the APG are also allowed. Starting at level 3 with rolled stats as follows.

18
16
15
14
10
10

Leaning towards human at this stage, for the feat and for +2 to chosen stat (open to other suggestions), another thinking for human is, common race, easy to disguise.

I want to have a few backstories written up for other names my character will go under, for example, a dancing teacher, a cook, a tailor, etc. Each with their own minor background and personalities etc.

Im after suggestions on anything, as far from left field as they may seem.

Cheers in advance

Hey guys, just had an idea and wanted to see if anyone had used to tried out something similar, and how it went.

The idea is, that not every situation awards EXP but can award something else.

For example, dealing well with a social situation, permanent bonus to bluff/diplomacy/etc

Or minor feats for, 'practising'

Any thoughts welcome

Name: Torvael (working name)
Class: Ranger (Urban)
Race: Elf

Worked as a spy/bounty hunter for the government. He was raised by the government, ala ward of the state. However, upon discovering documents from an enemy of the state and reading them, Torvael has come to realise that the iron fist rule of the government is not in the best interests of the realm and now maintains his position, but works to undermine the government from the shadows.

This is what one of my players wants to use as background, i like the idea but i dont think its a great idea for him to be 'in' the government. Perhaps hired every now and then for odd jobs?

What u guys think? or could it work?

Im about to start the campaign and asked them for a background.

Does anyone know of any pathfinder (3.5 dnd) campaigns with a strong social side to it?

Im looking for something different for my friends and myself to experience, and believe a game based not just on, kill this person etc type goals would be good.

Id love a long campaign from lvl 1 to 10+ but anything is helpful thanks guys.

We are starting a campaign (kingmaker), at lvl 4. (I wont go into the history but we died a few times lol).

We have a 3 man party, using 20 point buy, with only things from core rulebook and APG. No traits either.

We have druid and a cleric, and am not sure what else would benefit our group. I was leaning towards Paladin or Barbarian for combat support.

Any thoughts welcome.

Just finished a session where my lvl 2 wizard elf died... =(

The party managed to get me reincarnated by a druid, but i came back as a goblin. (which frankly i love, because goblins are the most hilarious things ever).

My problem is, now that im a lvl 1 wizard, with now lower int and a face only a mother could love. should i stick with wizard as my class, or multiclass and pick something else up at lvl 2?

I'll get right to it. I wanna try something different.

Our group has always done, 'the epic adventure' type rpg. Travelling around and so on.

And i was contemplating running a pure City based campaign. I have found several maps that i consider to be good and useful.

My idea is the city is a monstrous metropolis. All kinds of races/creatures reside in here. Even goblin, kobolds, etc living in sections of this city.

Ive had some basic ideas for faction creation but need some help finding any resources or ideas.

If anyone knows of a site etc that has a bunch of pre made factions that i can use as a basic idea to run with, it would be much appreciated.

Currently running a wizard which i intend to become a mystic theurge.

2 decisions to make, will i go druid or cleric?

and is it better once i have 10 levels of theurge, to go for 4 levels of once class? or mixed?

Ie. end up with one spell per day of 9th level, and the other spells being maxed at 7.

or getting both to 8th level?

I will be embarking on the kingmaker campaign setting within a few days. At the moment we are looking at a 3 person party.

The other party members are, a fighter, and an oracle.

Im looking at an arcane spell caster as my class. Ive had a good look at both sorcerer and wizard. The more i look at wizard, and the more i look at specialised schools, the more i like sorcerer lol.

(im open to discussion on this matter)

(i will although miss the skills associated with wizard)

But my main question lies within bloodlines for sorcerer.
I realise some would be more beneficial than others for this type of campaign, and i have liked the look of some of them.

- arcane (for obvious reasons, good spells, versatility, etc)

- destined (just love the idea of being 'destined,' no leadership feat in the campaign however, which makes that bonus feat pointless. DM said the feat wouldnt be necessary during the game)

- fey (obviously there is fey during the campaign)

- stormborn (absolutely love the abilities, Storm Spirit from Dota for anyone who gets that reference)

any input on wizards/sorcerers or other classes would be appreciated. thanks.

To me, a good king is generally a strong military leader. Able to charge forward into battle by his knights, address people in court with intelligence, and speak to crowds of thousands with no issues.

But what class makes a good king? Surely a king would have a high charisma and be knowledgable. But a king should be a strong combatant when time for war comes.

This is all my opinion obviously, but what class would suit these roles? All i can really think that might be close would be a Cavalier, honourable, strong, socially capable.

Any thoughts? or other ideas? cheers all.

Hey guys, im trying to do this without getting spoilers lol.My friend will be running the kingmaker campaign in the near future.

I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on classes that cant be lived without.

Ie. from what i can gather it seems a druid or ranger would be a must? any ideas?

plz no spoilers also =D

Just wanted to see what everyone thought the best route to take for making a character that:

1- is still gonna be useful in other circumstances
2- is going to be excellent for crafting magical items
3- uses only base classes from pathfinder core and advances players books only

Hello all,

I am starting a new mini campaign with some friends soon and im stuck at the moment for ideas. At this point in the campaign the players find themselves at a tower on a hill, this is a mages tower.

Upon entering they realise very quickly the appearance on the outside is very different to what they find themselves in, instead of a 3 story tall thing building it is a large multi room dungeon type setting. (obviously illusionary magics at work).

The problem i am having is what to put in front of the PCs for them to overcome?
I was thinking about running it totally as illusionary challenges etc.

had a quick google and couldnt find any decent magic based rpg challenges to put the PCs through.

Any ideas, or links to pages that might help are appreciated.

I'm not near my rulebook and I couldn't find anything on google.

The question is, the speak with animals spell/ability.
Does this allow the animal you speak with to be able to construct a legitimate sentence? Or are you limited because you're speaking to a dumb s@!# int 2 animal?

Also, are familiars that have this ability restricted to animals of their exact type? Or for example could a rat speak to a mouse? Or an eagle speak to a hawk?

4 people marked this as a favorite.

Just made some calculations for fun. If you have done anything similar please post.

Human Stormborn Sorcerer at lvl 20

All feats taken are 'Fleet'

Can use lightning form thingy to travel 14000ft in 2 minutes once per day. Thats one way to leave your party for dead and get away.

=D

Im having a quick gander at the classes, and i was wondering about building a character whose sole purpose was to provide social skills to the party.

ie, taking skills and feats all based around things such as diplomacy, sense motive, bluff, etc.

my questions are, is this viable in a long term campaign that will also have combat situations.

And, would a bard be best for this? or would a rogue with his 8+int +1 for human +1 for favoured class ranks per level outweigh the bard?

using a point buy system of 15, would it also be viable to run almost all the points in int, wis, and cha?

eg, 7str 10dex 9con 14int 14wis 16cha (with +2 in int or cha)

Does anyone know where i can find a comprehensive list of most, if not all, possible crafts and professions.

And if possible, soemthing that also explains each of them.

Cheers guys.

Hey guys, will soon be starting the kingmaker campaign and was looking at playing a sorcerer for the adventure. Im just looking at spells, bloodlines, feats etc and just was looking for a hand.

Originally I was going to run destined bloodline for the 'leadership' feat among other things. Due to various reasons that don't need to be discussed this feat will not be used during the campaign. Making me rethink this bloodline.

I do like the idea of a crow/raven as a familiar, and as such was comprehending the arcana bloodline. I'll also add my character is going to be human.

I'm curious what ideas for spell and feat selection anyone would have. Being the only arcane caster I was thinking, item creation feats to e a necessary part of this for later times in the adventure.

At the moment i haven't looked too in depth into specialization into one school, so any ideas in reference to what spells are a must would be appreciated.

The DM has also informed us that he will be running in depth environmental factors, such as weather, starvation, getting lost etc.

Also being of limited skills as far as classes go, would it be worth taking feats to enhance skills? And what craft/profession skills would prove useful?

Cheers everyone in advance.

I havent played DND for a while, and last time i did it was when the 3.5 system had just come out. I am looking forward to trying this system out and having a good campaign with some old friends.

I will soon begin playing the Kingmaker campaign. However, All at once all of my great ideas were torn to shreds.

The DM decided there would be no traits, as specified in the players resource for the campaign. Which was a little annoying but i got over it.

Secondly, i asked about feats from outside core books, and was told only core books were available.

I then decided i would like to try a sorcerer, after reading the bloodlines i was more than happy with my choice. I decided on the 'destined' bloodline. As would be fitting to the roles in the campaign, and also giving the 'leadership' feat for free at level 7.

Only to once again, have my ideas shattered by him updated that the leadership feat would not be available....

So my great character, that i was looking forward to a bit of fun, and a change of pace from my usually rogue/ranger sneaky person has been shattered.

So, what am i here for? I am here for vengeance.

Im looking for ideas for characters that will make his life a living hell. As previously stated i can only use the core rulebooks. I have no access to the local traits, and cannot take the leadership feat.

Anything would be appreciated.
