short background story:
Aasif was born a third son to a successful merchant-family of halflings. His father exported cloth, silk and spices from the port of Sedeq. Luxuries, much of which were sold to noble courts. After his fathers death his brother and sister inherited the lion's share of the family enterprise and fortunes. Aasif used his share of the money starting his own business. Together with a human aquaintance, named Nazeem he started his own trade in spices, serets and moneylending. They both profited from their relationship, as Aasif had many useful contacts to customers and traders, while Nazeem worked at the local mint. Soon both of them acquired such an unsavoury reputation for financial fraud and high interest moneylending that the two were impeached by the local law enforcement of the city, and both were found guilty. Nazeem and Aasif were imprisoned. Nazeem lost his office at the mint and both lost reputation, fortune and their business, as they had to use it to buy themselves a milder sentence.
Aasif does want to eventually start afresh somewhere else, but first he'd wanted some time to let grass grow over his failed first attempt at getting rich, and see more of the world besides. He intends to use his many talents for the Qadiran pathinder lodge, and if some money'll roll his way, so much the better.
