RETCON-Smuggler 3 The old salt dog turns and moves east. "Keep your eye out! Going to help the boss!" He moves to the east and up to behind and to the left of Sanbalet. Seeing the half-orc threatening his boss he calls out. "Boss! Fallback!" Readies an action. Holds fire until his boss clears and he has a open shot on the large man in front of his boss. "Fall back and let me stick a bolt in his eye!"

Sanbalet Just as Grond is invigorated by the healing magic of Peran and his god so is the stranger standing before you. Your words seem to impact him with the situation falling apart around him and the confidence in calling him out you see his strength of conviction seems to waiver and the man appears to be shaken and unsure of himself or his actions. Shaken - A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. Shaken is a less severe state of fear than frightened or panicked.

Working on posts. With my foot up... And yes it hurt like hell. When it happened I had this picture of my toe imploding inside my shoe...was afraid to take my shoe off. Now it just looks like a mangled purple and blue thing that just sits there throbbing and laughing at me. Heck of a sinker...dropped like 18 inches...was not expecting that. I really need to stop catching him when he pitches. He has surpassed my level of ability to catch him.
I will have posts up tonight for us. Was planning on it yesterday but I had to run to the emergency room. Was doing a pitching work out with my son and he decided to throw a sinker that got away from me....shattered big toe... 65mph fast ball meets big toe...never works out for the big toe. :) Going to work on getting us caught up and get the momentum going for us. I will offer up what I have been working on. I have been using the knowledge skills below for nearly decade now. As GM I like to use skills for the PC's and NPC's so they get a lot of mileage. I think that is the important part is if you have a list of skills you need to makes sure the characters can benefit from their investment/use. Skills Appraise (INT/WIS)
Knowledge Areas: (synergy bonus)
That is 23 skills with many of the previous PF1E skills combined in workable groups. I have also added back in Concentration. I find it needs to be a skill and it should be used by more than just spell casters. Special abilities that require concentration should also be under concentration. I find Appraise important especially in investigation/intrigue style encounters. It is a skill that allows them to look over and area and make an estimate of not only things of value but also of importance...(to a specific individual, a group, and such). It can play a very important roll when used with Diplomacy, Espionage, Perception, Spycraft, and Thievery. Athletics just makes sense combining climb, jump, and swim.
Concentration - having played D&D from its start in the late 70's I have always thought that the use of Concentration for spell caster made perfect sense in 3.0 and 3.5. PF1E doing away with it didn't and I believe it can be more impactful when also used for other special abilities like KI... Which from a fantasy perspective Monks tend to use meditation and concentration to focus their KI abilities. Espionage - so this is really breaking decipher script and forgery away from linguistics which I did away with and adding cipher script. I just think this makes sense and it has more skill flavor into the rogue and other similar classes. Plus it enhances investigation/intrigue encounters. Perception and Uncover - So for me Perception is your natural sixth sense and awareness... Uncover is essentially search/spot and is used to uncover concealed and hidden objects/persons. Both use your sense but in different ways and for different reasons. Perception - get a sense of the room. get a sense of the person. sniff out an ambush. detect a lie or a deception. notice something unusual or different about a person or place. I never saw a reason to have perception and sense motive...They should have been combined Uncover - see an hiding predator. find that person that is getting ready to ambush you. find a concealed alcove. find a secret door. Spycraft - combined bluff, disguise, and gather information. I find that gather information should not be in diplomacy. It works well in a group with bluff and disguise. Thievery - So this again is combining skills that just make sense to me. Like Spycraft it seems like skill tax to have PC's dropping multiple skill points into different skills that should be combined into one or two. This opens up a lot of doors for roguish and intrigue style PC' and gives them a bit more flexibility to diversify their skill sets. Helps fighters as well as they can get more bang out of their skill points. Speak and Write Language. Essentially every PC's speaks their base language but if they want to read/write they have to spend skill points in that area. Also by splitting them up like this it allows to you play in a world where people are not educated so reading and writing can be at a premium. This skills with Ability/Ability like Ride (DEX/WIS) have a choice they can decide to use RIDE (DEX) or RIDE (WIS). Riding always bugged me I grew up on my grand parents horse ranch when I was a kid...It is more about the sense of the animal and knowing how to handle them when you ride them. Very little to do with dexterity... The additional knowledges are from using them a great deal in my games and I actually like the diversification.

I can promise 3 to 4 posts week right now and that is about all I can really promise. If I get time to do more I of course will be posting. I plan on posting tonight in the Game Thread and get us updated. Just trying to be honest and up front. I love the game and honestly don't want to pull it but I am putting all my cards on the table to discuss. Jack
Sorry, Just got back into town and got back up to date with work. I am all in to keep it going for us. I love this game just giving everyone a update on my RL status. Which is insane at the moment. I had thought my projects would slow down at work but due to the success of it all we are getting hammered by other business units requesting our services. Coupled with the kids getting more and more competitive in their sports it is a crazy pace. I would love to keep this going. Just want to make sure everyone is as well. Jack
All, Just an fyi my work right now is crazy and my youngest is on a national travel team for baseball which has us travelling every weekend. I don't see my pace dropping off at any point for at least the next three to four months. I am not sure I can get this game back on pace with my schedule. I just wanted to give both of you a heads up. There is a good chance I will close out my other game as well due to all of this. Jack
All, I am thoroughly tied up with work at the moment and coupled with my youngest being on a national travel baseball team we have wheels up just about every weekend. These last few weeks I have shut my work laptop down around 9pm every night unless I was taking one of my kids to practice and then working in my car. If we are still fully invested in the game I am can cover it but with the drop-off in posting, I am considering closing the game out. Jack
Rimas and Borak walk up to Shang after talking about what Rimas and Cillian know and about and stories of the City of Dipur. What you learn about Dinak from Rimas: After a short career as an outlaw raiding caravan with his tribe in the wilderness of Khazistan, Dinak traveled to the capital city of Zhul-Bazzir and underwent formal combat training as a young man. He used his newfound skills and experience to earn the right to lead raiding parties on caravans. Eventually, he meets Hamadras, some say during a raid, others say the merchant sought out his services. Since that time he has been protecting caravans for Hamadras, and quickly rose among the ranks to become foreman of Hamadras’ personal caravan. He seems to trust few people, other than Hamadras, and his tribemates to whom he is completely loyal, and usually kill anyone who annoys him rather than argues with them. He has a reputation for being a dangerous swordsman who is quick with both hands. It is also said he still has strong ties to his tribe and those that still raid...they just seem to never attack Hamadras's caravans. Now they just hire a fresh batch of mercenaries every time Hamadras' private caravan travels to Arenjun. We are now in present time.

Cillian knows this and he has the same freedom as well. We are companions who count on each other because no one can survive this world alone. Better to have another sword and set of eyes." She pauses for a moment and seems to consider her own words. "I can see why you are friends with Shang and Isa...they are loyal as are you. That alone is a valuable gift to have in this world." She lets Borak finish... She nods as they walk through the encampment. Relaxing her hand on her sword as she scans the encampment and smells the food being served by the old man and women. She looks over to the cooking and serving table and then back to Borak. "You know Dinak and his family were raiders themselves. I don't know the whole story mind you but that night after you slew all those men with the red sashes. Cillian and I did some asking around." She laughs under her breath..."Where is the fun in that Hillman...If that is case then we should let this game of chance play out and see where it takes us then. It would seem our blades are bound. I will let Cillian know...he likes your group so it would seem we are fated to take the bet of the bones you roll."

The shadow mage seeing that things are going badly for him and his crew decides he must "step out of the shadows" and try to right this ship. He steps up five feet. Casts Color Spray - aimed at the Half-Orc (Grond) and the Half-Elf (Narciso). Will Save DC15. As Narciso rounds the corner and speaks to Grond his eyes settle past Grond to the south. At first he is shocked that this tall, lean, slighlty bald man is standing not 20 or so feet away in front of Grond and Grond doesn't even notice him. Then suddenly the man steps up towards Grond his right hand moving in a intricate pattern as he chants something...It is arcane in nature but he has never heard this language...it is a strange...shadowey language. As he does this powder...red, blue, yellow spring forth from his hand. Suddenly powder seems to transform and from the man's hands flies vivid cone of clashing colors that springs forth and fans out towards both Grond and himself! Color Spray DC15 Grond Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Roll to see past the Hidden Presense as he is altering the environment. DC15 Rabalar Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 The blast of light overwhelms both Narciso and Grond's senses. For Narciso it is overwhelming and the colors seem to overload not only his vision but his entire mind and he collapses. Grond turns his head in the last moment and the vivid and shocking colors don't seem to effect him. It must be the blood lust! As he turns and looks a man that was not there is standing 15 feet away from him and with a look of surprise that the half-orc some how over came his spell! For Rabalar everything happens so quickly...there is moment where he sees Narciso pause after he speaks...then the vivid lights and the flash of color. It seems to shock Narciso who falls to the ground but Grond seeems to turn away. Rabalar can't figure out what did this! 2 HD or less: The creature is unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds, and then stunned for 1 round. From the south Ferona and Naia hear the sound of a click and then the thrum of a crossbow cord and then another one. "They found us out! Let them have it!" Two crossbow bolts fly out of the shadowy area from the south facing Ferona and Naia. With Naia covered by the wall both bolts fly towards Ferona! Smuggler 4 Lt Crossbow Atk: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
smuggler 3 readied action - Lt Crossbow Atk: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Ferona hears the sound and suddenly sees the first bolt as it slams into shoulder...the pain is overwhelming. Then the other bolt flies by her left arm just grazing her. She is wounded and now facing at least two adversaries to the south! Take 9 hp of damage. You are now Wounded (below 1/2 and above 1/4 total hp) -2 ATK/AC/Save/Skill/Ability/Caster Level. All spells are cast at -2 caster level. The Red Line marks the Normal Light to Dim Light/Shadowed area
Naia - Botted Naia, attention locked on the east while keeping an eye out on what Ferona is doing nods when Ferona passes along the information. "Not sure. Splitting up has never been a good idea when it comes to his trickster. Not sure we should divide or forces. I don't much care for walking towards these illusions." She looks around and studies the area in front of her and around her. Will Save to disbelieve the illusion: 1d20 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 4 + 1 = 18+4 for Ferona informing her of the illusion. +1 for having dealt with previous illusions. Perception - inspect area for any signs or clues: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Naia this time calms her mind and looks directly south at the wall and for a moment she doesn't see anything out of the normal. But then she immediately notices it is missing any hint of the greenish moss and lichen that the rest of the walls have. As she stares at it she realizes the pattern of the natural rock is all the same, there are no differences or variations... Then suddenly the wall becomes translucent and behind the wall is only a dim space...some sort of cavern room that goes into darkness. As she stares into the room because of her angle she can only see to the western cavern wall. There seems to be a natural wall but it is covered in a thick green moss or lichen, much thicker than the rest of the walls, and the space appears to fade into shadow and darkness.

When Rimas and Borak come up to the group you meet them half way... Pretty simple and then we are back on track.
Rimas Unsure of what had just unfolded in front of her eyes she decided to keep quiet and let Borak says his piece and barter for this slave wench. She had grown up in and around barrack halls and was well aware of the uses for Barrack wives and slave women...girls really. It was a main driving reason for her leaving. She had learned early on that men were driven by the primal needs...women too for that matter but more subtly then these brutes. She laughed inwardly. What drives this man...more to this then just his carnal pleasures. Maybe it has to do with that Tharagian guard. She comes along side with the large Hillman and lowers her voice. "Soft dark women hey...I had never considered myself soft. Was it something I said that spurred this desire to create this mischief you are about? Because if it is just know there are much simpler ways to remedy this angsts you have Hillman. That man doesn't seem the one you want to jockey positions with as much as I don't trust him or his men he has their loyalty." She lets that hang for a moment... "I will never understand the mind of a man or your lack of self control..." Borak can tell by her voice she is not happy with what just happened but it is hard to tell why exactly.

Dinak Dinak shrugs. "Very well Hillman but know that this wagon circle is mostly men...and look around you. Not many dark spots to speak of but do as you may as long as you follow the rules put forth. Maybe this breeding will put a babe in her belly. I would imagine a Hillman-Tharagian union would bear a good strong babe and her new master will appreciate that little bonus." Borak turns and walks away and the female warrior seems to fall in by his side. The Guard Captain seems to laugh but lets the Hillman's comments go. The man had clearly dealt with prideful men in the past and the words didn't seem to bother him. Maybe because there were many eyes on Borak and Rimas as the two left Dinak's company.

Yep but that is what OOC is for to level set :) I try to play the NPC's just as I created them and with a lot of the fluff already fleshed out in the adventure it is not hard to fill minor details on him. So often I put notes on them about their demeaner and reactions to specific things the PC's will throw at them. Realizing that players are going to throw things at you that you were not ready for I use those points I put down as markers for the crazy stuff you do throw at them :). Dinak is a kind of a "bad ass in his own mind" "Alpha leader" with a high opinion of his ancestry and race. It is hard to get a feel for his true thoughts and his true personality at the moment. One of the things I really like about PBP is you get some time to review PC posts, notes, and then make posts that really fit the NPC's and encounters.
