Transgender iconic? Really? I don't play RPGs to engage in political correctness. For me, RPGs are a means of escape from the stress and confusion of the real world. Today, I have gladly thrown away all 14 of my Pathfinder hardbacks and my four boxed sets. D&D 5e has come at just the right time... Paizo will be knocked back down off its arrogant pedestal and D&D will once again reign supreme. Start worrying Paizo....
Feel free to email me as well if/when you have an opening. dcfitch@verizon.net I enjoy D&D, from Pathdinder, to 2e, to 1e, to Basic (Labyrinth Lord).
Has anyone used the Dragon Warriors setting (Lands of Legend) for a Pathfinder campaign? I am beginning to do just that and was wondering what experiences others may have had. It is an old setting and I realize that many may not have seen it. Lands of Legend is very rich in flavor and looks like an awesome world in which to play.
You folks still looking to add another player? I am 45, love old school D&D (basic, 1e, 2e, Labyrinth Lord, etc.). I shower regularly (my wife makes me), and I care more about story and fun than I do about the strict math of the game. Hope to hear from ya...

Evil Lincoln wrote: Timothy Hanson wrote: I am not sure how people would find this offensive. Actually I will go a step further and say I am not sure how this could even be seen as offensive.I can only assume you are referring to people who hate the gods being called atheist? To clarify, the "offensive" content with respect to atheism in Pathfinder was not related to Rahadoum, but rather to the treatement of atheist souls in the Great Beyond cosmology. It's been discussed, and I think the creative director has said he would have it work differently in future versions.
Now, I wasn't personally offended by the Great Beyond example, but I can see how it gets a little strange what with atheism being the only belief system that exists more or less identically in the real world and the fantasy setting.
I am not trying to make a big deal of it, though. This topic carries a lot of baggage, and I fear that baggage may keep Paizo from exploring Rahadoum as much as I would like. Let's not let this thread degenerate into a real-world religious debate. Although I am a Christian ("practicing" my faith as well as I know how), I must agree with my atheist friend. Atheists are sometimes unfairly portrayed as angry and hateful in debates across America and the West. The same, alas, has been the case for Christians. The immature form of the debate seems to equate disagreement with hate or intolerance. While there are angry and hateful people on both sides of the "faith" debate, it is unfair to paint all people within a certain belief system with the same broad brush. This is something that today's public square does all too often.
With all this said, I find the approach to Rahadoum fascinating and could hold interesting consequences for PCs as they adventure across this nation. Awesome stuff!

Don't get me wrong, I love Golarion. But, like any setting, there are a few things which I don't much care for. Primarily, I dislike how Paizo handles Dwarves. This race has long been a staple of fantasy gaming but for some reason Paizo doesn't deal much with them. I wonder if his is due to Eric Mona's confessed and intense dislike for fantasy Dwarves. YOU HEAR THAT, ERIC MONA? I have called you out, homeboy!

As a father of five kids and husband to one wife, I have neither the time nor the money to go to GenCon. Or even Paizo Con.... But I LOVE your stories, Lisa! Keep up the wonderful work in all you do.
I enjoy Pathfinder a ton, but I want to play some AD&D 2e again. Anyone in So Ca (Inland Empire or OC) playing 2e? Hope to hear from ya.
Dan
I am in Redlands, CA. Not too far from Riverside, eh? I am 44 and am in the same situation. Looking for a game. I was in a good group for a couple months by they changed locations and my personal schedule went nuts. My direct email is dcfitch@verizon.net. Hope to hear from you,
Dan

Looking to try playing my old favorite...AD&D 2e...again. Is there any group in So Cal playing 2e? I live in Redlands, CA, and am willing to drive a reasonable distance for a game. Thanks!
Does anyone on the inland empire area of Southern CA still play this version of AD&D? I miss the flavor. I would love to try and get into a campaign again and maybe eventually run one of my own.

I need to check those out. I'm fine with the current binding for the smaller books. But for the large Core book, something needs to be done. And I'm not into PDFs.
I hope the people at Paizo (the BEST RPG company in the business) have paid attention to the most prevalent complaint about the Core Rule Book: the fact that it is so big that it falls apart. How about making a high-quality binding option for those who want one? I'm not talking about one so fancy that you don't want to use it...like the deluxe Runelords release. I mean something along the lines of what Kenzer Co. did for the new Hackmaster rules. Check it out....HM PHB is easily the most beautiful and toughest RPG book ever published. Pathfinder deserves no less!
Sounds like you are a NATURAL talent at GMing. Well done, and happy gaming!

Do the good folks at Paizo have any plans to make a premium edition (leather/leather-like cover) of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook? Mine is wearing out fairly quickly and I would love to have a high-quality bound book on my shelf!
Dan from Redlands
Anyone within driving distance of Redlands, CA, play or used to play Runequest? I used to play the original edition from Chaosium and then the Avalon Hill version, and I am now looking to start playing once more. (Am seriously considering shelling out the big bucks for the new RQ 6e!)

Sebastian's obsession: DICE? What do I win ?!? See's Candy? Please?
Hey! Is that the corner of a See's Candy box in the bottom right corner of the photo? What gives? Not gonna share?!?
Hi! I work not far from Palm Springs and currently love in Redlands. I am an old-time gamer (43 yrs old) and am very interested in joining a Pathfinder game. My email is dcfitch@verizon.net.
Thanks!

Has Paizo or anyone out there done a military rank structure for the military in Lastwall? I'm starting to write a lengthy adventure in Lastwall and I don't want to get it wrong if someone has already done it. Thanks fellow Golarionians!
A witch NPC would be a great idea! I'll start reading up on the witch in the APG. This gives me a lot to work with, since the NPC won't simply be a dumb creature.
Thanks!
I'm writing a one-shot adventure and am looking for an intelligent monster for the big baddy. She must be able to drain the life source from someone and in turn receive youth from that life source. Is there any Pathfinder monster like that? I have been unable to locate one. (I'm kinda new to this, if you couldn't tell!) Level is open at this point.
Thanks for your help.

I am eager to venture back to these places to catch up with some old friends. I live in Redlands, CA...and I am looking to get back into AD&D 2e also. I still have my black books and have been reading them a lot lately. I just wish I could find a game!

Sounds great to me! I have never tried the Pathfinder Society. Do I make a character or are there pre-made ones there? What would I need to bring? Also, if you don't mind...are there any groups you know of between Hemet and Redlands?
Thanks.

Hi. I have posted before without any success...so here I go again! I am 42, married with a family and a busy schedule, but I would love to squeeze in a regular Pathfinder game. I am new to the game in that I have yet to actually play it, though I played 3e long ago and older versions before that. I have played a couple of sessions of 4e and greatly enjoyed it, but I want to dig deep into Pathfinder as my game of choice. Hope to hear from someone...anyone...soon :) Homebrew setting or Golarion is fine with me. Thanks.

The other day I went to Barnes & Noble and bought a Pathfinder novel (Plague of Shadows...it's quite good so far) and the guy at the register asked me if I played the game. I said I owned it and really liked it. He said he played it and it is a great edition of D&D. I left without even asking him if his group has an opening! I'm a dummy. Anyway, Pathfinder really is getting huge it seems.

True. That would be good. You still on Palm?
I am 42, married and work, so my schedule is full, but I am looking to fit in a bi-weekly Pathfinder game. I am returning to gaming after a long absence, and 4e has left me disappointed. I missed the whole 3.0 and 3.5 era, so I picked up Pathfinder to see what I missed...and I love the game! Initially I would like to play, and eventually I will probably run a game of my own. I am willing to drive a reasonable distance from Redlands. Hope to hear from you soon.

Yo Dan--
There are various Yahoo groups that coordinate PF games in the LA-ish area.

-Pain Thanks, but LA-ish is a huge region. Nothing withing even 30 minutes of me so far.

Zealot wrote: Now I read some of the books but can someone please explain to me what the heck happened to the Forgotten Realms. Are these changes before the switch to 4th? Finally, has this effected anyone's game?
Ive loved the Forgotten Realms since they first came out. I remember reading about it in Dragon and when the Gray Box finally came out I was all over it. So what the heck? Magic is dead? Kingdoms just fall? WTF?
After seeing what WoTC did to the Realms, I rolled up a drow ranger and named him P'SST!

F. Wesley Schneider wrote: I started to write a pretty irked post about how folks were still harping on the Kavapesta typo in here. Then it finally clicked that that reference replaces what would usually be a description. And that actually is lame. SO!
Kavapesta: The largest city in Amaans and a holy city for Pharasmins, Kavapesta is a somber place possessed by a dour variety of religious fanaticism. The city takes its name from Mother Kavapesta, a Pharasmin missionary and teacher whose sermons on perseverance and suffering laid the foundations for the philosophies today known as the Pharasmin Penitence. After the priestess's death, her followers began the construction of Cryptgate Cathedral, which through centuries of renovations and expansions would become the largest church and monastery of Pharasma in the nation. The effort of constructing this monument and the tombs beneath brought droves of pilgrims to the banks of Lake Divirmis, which the faithful eventually renamed Lake Kavapesta. With the cathedral's completion, the assembled congregation lingered on, hoping to create a community based on the tenets of their faith. This community grew slowly, finally becoming the city known today.
Yet a city needs more than faith to survive, a fact the people of Kavapesta stubbornly defy. The foothills around the city are poorly suited to farming and the lake is tainted by poisonous minerals from the Hungry Mountains. A few mines in the surrounding hills scrape tin and coal out of the earth, though one has to wonder if the coin won from these efforts is worth the lives lost to cave-ins, choking maladies, and more mysterious disappearances. But worst of all are the plagues, the rampant sicknesses that seem to boil up from lake Kavapesta once a generation and burn through the city like a field fire. Scourges like the Whithers, Tol's Voice, and, most fearfully, the Black Breath have killed thousands in their beds, with lesser scares and reemergences occurring every few years. But the people claim that their city is blessed - not...
Since I took the time to whine and complain, I also should take to time to express my appreciation at your post, Mr. Schneider! Your response is the exact reason why Paizo rocks it over ALL OTHER RPG companies! Well written...but mostly, the fact that you were willing to respond to address costumer complaints is awesome. Keep up the great writing and thanks for reading our posts.
Dan

Riptide777 wrote: F. Wesley Schneider wrote: Alephtau wrote: On page 10 in the Amaans section it states that there is supposed to be a section for Katapesta in chapter 3, but looking in chapter 3, and everywhere else in the book, i dont see a section for Kavapesta. Is this a typo, or is my copy just missing the section detailing Kavapesta? Quite the opposite. Kavapesta is ONLY in my version of the book. One of the towns I wrote up had to die to fit within the book's 64 pages and that was the one, though sadly that mention apparently survived. Fortunately, much of the information on the city found its way into the timeline and the description of Bishop Ulametria and the Pharasmin Penitence. And before people ask to see the handful of idea drained locations I had written for this, no, I'm not sharing.
So nah. :P So I take it there's no chance of seeing the write up on Kavapesta in any of the other installments of the AP or anything? Unfortunate. One of my PC's is playing an Inquisitor and follower of the Pharasman Penitence. When I saw the referral in the Amaans description and then realized it didn't make the cut I was heartbroken. Guess I'll just have to soldier on and come up with something myself. As you said there is still a good amount of info scattered throughout RoF. Don't suppose I could convince you to share? ;) Sorry, but I think that is pretty weak...not writing anything on Kavapesta in chapter 2 because it will be detailed in chapter 3...then just leaving it out all together. I don't really care what the reason is...the buyer is the one who gets NOTHING on the biggest city in the county. If the author doesn't want to share, then he is as much at fault as the editor. I see nothing humorous in this tease.
My story is very similar to yours. I too spend most of my D&D days in 2e AD&D...and had many hours of fun. I also moved on to play old Runequest and GURPS. I missed most of the 3e days, and after a decades hiatus, I returned to check out D&D with 4e. I played it a few times and had a great time, but it felt different from the D&D days that I once knew. I checked out Pathfinder, convinced myself to buy the core book...and fell in love!
I currently own all of the hardback books...and enjoy them all. But I have to say that, to get started, you would be fine with just the Core Rules and one Bestiary book. The Advanced Players Guide has great classes and extra stuff in it as well. But, at a bare minimum, you need the Core Rules and at least one of the Bestiary books to get going. I am currently waiting for my Campaign Setting book to arrive in the mail...can't wait!
Now...if I could only find a group to play with...

Feedback from table,
damage seems a little too high,
don’t like mixing playtest with OP and
it won’t take long for the bad guys to get firearms. How many characters could survive a ranged touch attack doing 1d12 possibly x4 damage?
Players was not happy with a gunslinger...
Can't stand the idea of firearms in medieval fantasy. This is the reason I went away from Warhammer FRPG years ago, and I hope it doesn't take too much root in Pathfinder now! Great game a flavor...but gunslinger is for western or later period-flavor settings.

Sceptenar wrote: First I want to say that I honestly appreciate the inclusion of homosexual characters in Pathfinder, Queen Ileosa and Sabina for example, as most RPGs seem to ignore this group completely. However it seems to me that Paizo has fallen into the trap of only making female gay characters. What I would like to see are some gay male characters and transsexuals in Golarion, the women have had their fun, let the boys and anyone in between in on it as well!
Also, I would like to see some information on how these groups are generally treated in the various societies on Golarion (most of what I've seen up til now seems to be quite progressive, but I doubt that is true for the entire world).
Well, for my part...I plan to keep overt sexuality...gay or hetero OUT OF MY GAME! I get enough of it just watching TV and looking at billboard ads. I play for escapist fun, not sexual exploration. I couldn't care less who is secretly boinking whom, and it saddens me to see such content in products which are sold to gamers of all ages. Other than this issue, I have been very pleased with Paizo's products.
