Unggoy triggers her staff but it only gives out a small pop and a wheeze. Irritated, she tries to smack Blue anyway but fails.
Taga-utos inspires his comrade to strike again. This time the strike is successful with the staff solidly enough that the butterfly is driven into the ground.

"Is there anything in here that doesn't want to kill us as soon as it sees us?" Wayin sighs as the attack begins.
A strum of the halfling's lute brings some inspiring energy into the air around the party. He looks closer at the surviving creature, trying to figure out what it is, more for his own curiosity than anything, then sketches out a magic shield in case it comes his way.

COMBAT OVER
With nowhere to go but north, you wade into the water and duck under the temple wall. Emerging on the other side, you climb onto a rock and spot something interesting...
Knee-deep water and a constant dripping sound fills the cavern, as does a strange song. On an island in the middle of the cavern rests a woman, brushing her hair in a faded mirror. Looking closer, you notice her comb is made unmistakably of human bones. The woman has an eel’s long, thin teeth, an anglerfish’s translucent skin, and an octopus’s tentacles instead of legs. Broken chairs, jewelry boxes, vanities, and similar furniture are piled haphazardly about her, and atop the tallest stack sits a shining piece of crystal.
The woman looks up at you and greets you. "Well met. Who are you and what are you doing here?"
Taga-utos
|
A faint smile crosses Taga-utos' face as the last flying creature falls.
"Excellent teamwork, Fae and Tessa. That's exactly how coordinated attacks should be executed. Keep fighting like that, and we'll overcome whatever else these ruins throw at us."
Later on...
Taga-utos offers the woman a respectful nod before answering.
"My companions and I found ourselves trapped in these temple ruins and we've been making our way through the chambers in search of a way out."
He then asks the woman. "What about you? Who are you? How did you end up here?"
GM Tiger
|
The woman doesn't appear to hear Taga-Utos' questions. "Have you found anything meaningful in this place?" she asks.
Wayin
|
First thing that doesn't try to kill us immediately in here and of course it looks like this... Wayin laments internally. The halfling finds something about this unsettling. Maybe it's the bone comb, maybe it's the translucent skin.
After taking a step forward, Wayin turns back and winks to his new companions, then faces this latest stranger. "Call me Karel," he says, offering a bow. The creature gives him enough of the heebie jeebies that he's not going to give it his real name if he doesn't have to. "Yeah, I found something meaningful in here. I've realized I don't have to go through life being just a solo act."
He suspects the creature is inquiring about a physical object that can be acquired, so he's being a clown in offering this answer, but it is also a sincere answer, other than his giving a false name.
Tessa Dragonkin
|
Tessa leaps onto Taga-utos's back to carry her across the "knee-deep" water. "If you're going to order me around in a fight, you can at least carry me so I don't drown." She hops off on a small rock sticking out of the water. The tiny dragon clacks her nails on the surface, smiling at the sound.
She turns to the creature. "Hey, where did you get that comb?!" She leans closer. "Kinda fun, isn't it? Did you get all this stuff from the temple?"
Fae Maeleranti
|
"I am glad I was able to help." Fae drops the shredded butterfly.
Fae notes the unlit star as she witnesses the person combing her hair.
"Identifying..."
Fae will use Esoteric Lore +6 to identify
"Greetings! We are searching for shards of an old artifact. I believe you have one nearby. Would you be willing to trade for it?"
GM Tiger
|
"Oh do you mean this little pretty thing?" she asks coyly, indicating the crystal at her side. "This, unfortunately is my only source of light. I would need a hefty price for this. What can you give me?"
Esoteric: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Fae Maeleranti
|
"Yes! The crystal shard."
Fae turns to her teammates. "What can we trade? We did clear that room of foes. But before that we found a bowl that could produce water." She glances at the creature. "Not useful for you. What about the bottles of perfume?"
Wayin
|
When Fae looks back to ask what the group can trade, Wayin turns the gears in his mind, then nods. Taking his lute, he gestures to the creature. "I'll trade you a song, if you want one."
The halfling strums as he sings a couple of lines, improvising lyrics on the spot.
"For those who dare to say they're brave,
A beauty waits for you here in this cave,
One look at her hair, you're in her net,
With a face that you'll not soon forget..."
He trails off, not willing to offer more unless she's interested.
| Unggoy Unggoyan |
Unggoy spends some time readjusting the gears of her weapon, hoping the mechanism will function properly the next time she needs it.
She then ducks beneath the wall alongside the others, emerging into a cavern.
Her eyes immediately settle on the unmistakably human bones fashioned into the comb the creature is casually running through its hair. She tightens her grip on her weapon, remaining on guard.
"Those are human bones." she states flatly with disgust.
GM Tiger
|
The figure just sighs... "Oh here and there. Look, I'm interested in that crystal you have. What can you give me for it?"
Wayin
|
Though trying to be friendly at first, Wayin is more on guard after the creature has brushed off different attempts at introductions and questions about who it is or what it wants. He's uneasy about the fact that it has also not taken up any of the trade offers.
"We are travelers who only seek to leave this place. Can you help us find the way out?" More wary internally, he's still trying to make a nice impression on this creature.

Tessa taps her nails on her chin for a moment. "Wait, you want our crystal? You already have one. What do you want two? Maybe you should give us yours."
GM Tiger

"Oh I can most certainly help you find a way out. Unfortunately, it also means I will eat very well for the next few weeks. Your crystal will become a part of my collection as well!"

Can someone bot Taga-Utos please? I have no idea how to play a commander...
Before I forget:
Small PCs - Difficult terrain becomes Greater Difficult Terrain
Tiny PCs - need a DC 15 Athletics check to move in water (i.e. swim)
Wayin
|
I'll take a crack at it...
Taga-Utos holds his banner high as he wades into the water, advancing far enough that he finds some of the solid ground between the party and the enemy. "Advance with me!" he calls out, raising his shield against attack.
Gather To Me! tactic: Signal all squadmates; each can immediately Stride as a reaction, though each must end their movement inside your banner’s aura, or as close to your banner’s aura as their movement Speed allows. Squadmates can use Gather to Me! while Burrowing, Climbing, Flying, or Swimming instead of Striding if they have the corresponding movement type.
Wayin follows after Taga-Utos, though he gets slowed down as he wades into the water. "Sir, yes, sir!" the halfling says. He thinks he heard that from a military man somewhere.
