Game Master Shadow Bloodmoon

My first foray into solo gaming to test new game systems. This one will be IronSworn with Delve. More to come…

I would told by a good friend of mine that I should start writing down my experiences in the world, something to remind me of days gone by when I get older. Considering the life I live, I’d rather not remember most days and I don’t see getting older as something that can happen to someone like me. Eventually, the darkness will claim me for taking all of its children.

First Bond, Good Friend, 3 ticks:

Name: 1d100 ⇒ 92 Nia
Role: 1d100 ⇒ 17 Mercenary
Goal: 1d100 ⇒ 42 Create an Item
Descriptor: 1d100 ⇒ 68 Confused

This will take some figuring out in game, but I have an idea where it might go. I was considering her becoming an asset, but I think the story will play out better if she is a once-in-a-while kind of character.

This is the life of a Free Warden though. Most of us live and work and fight in the Circles, but a few, like myself and Nia, we roam. We help those who dare face the forests on their own. We know the creatures that lurk in the night and face them down, knowing that if we don’t, we are no better than they are. I gave my oath to the Wardens and it means it belongs to all those who travel.

Bond Two, Free Wardens, 3 ticks:

While this can be more open, I feel that Lesar has it in his heart to fulfill his vow of protecting those who travel.

Assets:

I can start with three assets and I am looking through them. I was thinking that with the fiction, Lesar seems to cling to his oath to the Free Wardens and so I think that will fit in with allowing him access to the Banner-Sworn asset. I am also looking at Wildblood, as he does quite a bit of surviving out there on his own. I was considering adding some Ritual stuff, but I’m not yet sure that arcane knowledge is his thing yet. Instead, I will take a combat asset. I imagine him using spears a lot to keep his distance from the more dangerous beasts, and so Skirmisher fits that bill.

I have fought and killed many beasts and some of the people are grateful for it and some, their ego gets in the way of survival. Still, it does not deter me from doing what I am sworn to do.

I am holding the last background Bond in reserve, as I don’t have a definitive idea for it yet. Perhaps I will figure it out when I do the Vows next.

That brings me to today. Today I am helping a small group of people from a settlement that was destroyed cross through the forest and into friendly territory. They left after another Circle attacked them and took their land and homes. Sadly, it is a not unheard of story in these parts. The precious few resources available are not enough to go around. Sometimes the monsters I fight wear the same skin as me. I sure wish Nia was here to help. She was better at dealing with the dark hearts of men.

Vows:
After some thinking, I decided that a tribal war was a decent background to start with. We can explore what started it and how the Wardens place in the world might change due to this conflict. As I was creating the character, I had a thought that even though Nia is a bond, she is also a source of inner conflict for Lesar, as she has been lost for a time. He knows she’s out there, somewhere and he vowed to find her again, someday. That will be his long term vow, while his current one is simply to escort this group to the next safe place.

I will mark these vows on Lesar’s sheet and then we will start in with the fiction.

This next part is the inciting incident, or what makes the second vow. I will have to make the first in game move to see how strong the vow is.

I was searching for Nia, following a trail of half-truths and misremembered events. It brought me to a village on a hill over looking a thick part of the forest. Prime hunting ground. That’s what the invaders thought too when they attacked it. By the time I reached the point where I could see the homes, they were already in flames. I got closer to see what happened and ran into a few of the survivors. They begged me to help them flee. While I understand the needs of resources and how few there are, taking from those who already have them makes you less of a person and more of an animal. A beast to be put down. I kneeled before the weakened men, women and children and swore to them. ”On this, my Heart Blade, I swear that I will bring you to a new home, safe from these raiders. Across the river is a Circle that will help you.” I stood and we began our journey.

I will make this a Troublesome Journey to start out, as I am still learning the system.

Swear an Iron Vow, +1 Heart, +1 BannerSworn: 2d10 ⇒ (7, 1) = 81d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Weak Hit, Determined, but Need Answers Fast. +1 Momentum
Current Momentum +3

Knowing full well that the raiders were probably out looking for survivors, I needed to scout a path as far away from them as possible and hide our tracks. Looking at how many people I had with me, I knew it was going to be difficult, but I had to try anyway. ”Listen to me, all of you. We’re not out of danger yet. We need to get to the river as quick as we can, but we have to make sure they can’t follow us. Do what I tell you and we’ll make it.”

First I have a question to ask the oracle. How many days away is the river?
River Distance: 1d6 ⇒ 6

That is pretty far, so I will need to Undertake a Journey after this next part. I’m going to leverage my Wildblood trait to Secure and Advantage by teaching the tribe how to scatter their tracks as we move.

Secure an Advantage, WIldblood, Wits: 2d10 ⇒ (1, 9) = 101d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Weak Hit, Gain +1 Momentum, +4 Current Momentum

They are new at this, so it will be difficult to hide our tracks, but they know that their very lives are on the line, so they do their best to follow my directions. We trek through the woods, trying our best to not be spotted. I will have to find a place for us to rest when nightfall comes. This will not be an easy journey, but none of mine ever have been.
