Jerimiah tries to think, his brain rolling into a deadwall all of a sudden. He'd come up with the idea in the first place, but no she's not quite sure on how to do it. "Well, there's... Hm, what can you tell us about how you came to know these people, when and how he asked you to do this gruesome task? Let us start from there."
Uncertain, Bekkah interjects. Why... why do you say you were deceived?
William looks ashamed. "I believed we would be doing good in causing the failure of this mine, and that in turn I might gain favor with Anneliese, or even just see her one more time. Instead, I am now a wanted man, with no reward, and the more I consider, the more I realize we were really just contracted killers. That there was no higher goal, other than Grey's own ambitions."
"I am willing, if need be, to turn myself in to the British for trial, if I can but implicate Grey as well. If I deserve punishment, he certainly does triply so."
"You are a good man, if perhaps not having made the wisest of decisions." Jerimiah notes, before considering. "Yet, I am thinking of ways we might find to implicate this man without going to such lengths. However wrong it may be to take the life of another, I dare not seek yours to be thrown away so readily as well."
In the end, William offers the group another plan. He is able to provide them with proof of his own "death"; a forged certificate and photos, as well as the murder weapon (the same rifle he shot at you).
Hoyle buys this story, and is willing to deal with the time travelers. Gnarok works out an exchange for some steel stored in the spare parts of the ship; higher grade than currently produced, but the quantity is such that Jerimiah is certain it will not have significant impact on the time continuum while gaining the needed diamonds.
Happy to have successfully completed their first mission, Bekkah activates the TASC and successfully engages the temporal coordinates to return back to the "present."
Back in 2099 Minneapolis, Commander Elwin eagerly accepts the diamonds and oversees the offloading. Placing a hand appreciatively on the TASC, he nods at the squad.
"Well done. Just in time; we're going to need more jumps soon. We have a wave of anomalies detected in the timestream heading this way."
"'Just in time time?' Is that a agency joke?" The German asked, a smile almost on his lips. "It is good we were able to help. Time stops for nobody, after all."
