He whispers forward, "I believe that should be a guard room of some kind. Beyond is the Overseer's office."
Valiard Tessar
"Gah! That is foul!" Valiard says, stepping back.
Is there a visable path through the goo? Stepping stones? Those harder surfaces?
"I agree with Borak, let the door shut while we talk. Anyone have any thoughts as to what that was?" Valiard asked with a shudder.
It almost looks like the creature under Carrion Hill..."
"Perhaps fire or ice might damage the creatures or freeze the goo to allow us to pass?" Valiard mused aloud.
Børak
As Valiard says he agrees with Børak, the slayer shifts his weapon to one hand and shuts the door with the other. Gesturing towards his mentor, he adds. "Drake said it was some sort of guard room and office, I doubt if it is our access to the prison." Inferring he doesn't think they need to enter to continue to their objective. Looking from Drake back towards Valiard then to the others he pauses to hear what they think.
Doctor Ramada
"Drake said it was some sort of guard room and office, I doubt if it is our access to the prison."
Nikolay shakes his head. "I thought Drake just said a moment ago that this was the right way." He glances towards the now-closed door. "In any case, whether it takes us where we want to go is immaterial. What's in that room is... unnatural. It does not belong in this world, and I do not feel comfortable leaving it behind us."
The young scientist raises an eyebrow. "Besides, it's hard to believe such a vibrant ecosystem can be self-sustaining without an influx of energy - likely spiritual, in this area. Now, I'm far from an expert on ghosts and their ways, but if we can use the prisoners' items to dispel their lingering presence, it would stand to reason that said items would be nexuses of spiritual energy, much like whatever likely lies at the heart of that room. I'm willing to use a few of my concoctions if it means we might get the items we need."
Nikolay pulls out the materials for one of his explosive mixtures and prepares to combine and throw it once the door is open. "Fortunately, setting things on fire is one of my specialties. Those obstructionist ethics committees can quibble about 'highly toxic materials' and whether it is 'safe for humanoid consumption,' but they can't deny that at least!" If either of the new members of the group appear concerned, he raises a conciliatory hand. "Not to worry, my friends, it's nearly as safe as soap - or other such everyday items, as the case may be. The lab mice I tested it on did quite well until I injected it into their bodies, and I don't plan on doing the same with you, so there's no fear of your central nervous systems violently exploding like those of the mice I used."

"It might be the hard trail but I am sure it is the right path to lead to the heart, which should be guarded by the Overseer's room. I just hope these creatures haven't gotten to the heart."
He does not make a remark in response to the doctor's other comments.

Valiard looks from face to face for a moment, seemingly hoping that someone would suggest another direction. After an interminable moment an expression of resignation washes over his face.
"Looks like we are going through." he says, his voice flat.
Then with a bit more energy and glancing over the group he starts talking. "Ok. So if I am going to be a seer for a moment, then I think that the moment someone steps on the meat mat, we get a swarm. Which, is what I think we want. We put Lectrum in the door to hold it, Borak with his polearm behind him and the rest of us doing what we do best: shooting, magic, stabbing, and what not wherever we see opportunity."
"If stepping inside doesn't work to stir them up, then the good Doctor can toss a bomb and we see what we can stir up that way."
"If that sounds good, then lets do it."
Børak
Turning towards Nikolay as his fellow pallbearer talked about the room being 'unnatural' Børak held his tongue. Many would consider him unnatural as well. Smiling slightly, the same folks would consider Nikolay unnatural as well. When Drake starts to speak he returns his thoughts to the 'here and now'. If his mentor said this was the way to go, then it was the way to go.
Starting to step towards the door, he nodded in agreement when Valiard said they were going through. Pausing as he reached for the door, Børak raised an eyebrow as the herbalist presented his idea. Though not fond of trying to attack around someone, he realized he'd not seen either of the two new folks fight. Pausing, he looked at the others. He'd not really seen any of them fight either. Lightly shrugging his shoulders, he reaches towards the door, turning to Lectrum, "I'll open the door and follow you, let me know when you're ready."
When given the 'go ahead' from Lectrum, he'll open the door and step behind the dragonkin.
Visayn
Visayn stands little farther back with his shortbow ready when Borak opens the door. "All right, I'm ready to do my part."
Doctor Ramada
Nikolay notices Børak's expression and speaks up, frowning and sounding somewhat annoyed. "It is not the same, Børak. Those like you or me or Visayn here are not monsters because we have free will - we can choose what we do with our lives. For instance, I feel I did a very good job at not listening when the voices told me to kill that Jaun Sworn person in the Restlands, or when they said to poison your breakfast earlier today. On the other hand, those insects have no mind to think and no will with which to make such decisions. They are simply a force of destruction, not responsible for their actions, but not capable of changing them."
As the group waits at the threshold of the door, Nikolay prepares to combine and throw his volatile mixture into the heart of the infestation. "We must act quickly and decisively, my friends. Our goal lies ahead. If we can get to the core of the prison, perhaps Drake can utilize his expertise of this place."

If his original target was dead, he would throw it at the next zergling. Sincerest apologies for the delay in posting.
Round 2
Rather than drawing the components of another bomb, Nikolay pulls out a vial of sickly green liquid and hands it to Lectrum. "Here - I think you'll need this. It's an emergency short-term metabolic stimulant that..." He looks up at the massive dragonkin and sighs. "...Look, it's a healing potion. You drink it if you get partially eviscerated. It's safe to drink so long as there's no precipitate forming on the bottom." He peers at the vial and flicks it twice with his finger, stirring up the sediment at the bottom of the bottle. "...You'll be fine. Probably." After handing the vial to Lectrum, he draws his mace-like instrument from its place at his belt, the pistons along its length whirring to life and drawing acid from the reservoir as he prepares to strike at the next insect to get within reach.
Pass a Cure Light Wounds infused extract to Lectrum.

Valiard calmly knocked another arrow and waited for a target to come into view.

He pulls from his pouch another vial, one covered in warning labels in half a dozen languages, before downing its sickly green contents in one mouthful. As the mixture takes effect, his already spindly limbs seem to grow even longer, further increasing the young alchemist's resemblance to an immense, uncanny spider. Nikolay drinks something and transforms before moving into melee. Visayn grabs his bow and as quickly as possible heads for the door. The hydralisks move back a step and then shoot the target before them.

Valiard, a flat grimace fixed on his face, surveys the narrow picture through the door, hoping Lectrum would retreat as soon as he could. The dragonkin no longer surrounded.
"Lectrum! Get out of there!" he called into the room.

Sorry just noticed the asterisks
Watching Lectrum fight, Børak was proud of Nikolay who refused to abandon the dragon folk. Shaking his head, It wasn't Lectrum who'd broke ranks, he'd just moved into the room to protect Visayn, who'd rushed in. Chuckling, it was now Visayn who was rushing back as Lectrum was being overran. Hearing Magdali ask 'what was going on' Børak called back over his shoulder. "The dragonkin is getting the worst of it."
Resolved to help, Børak shoulders past Visayn. Moving into the room, he lifts his bardiche, asking "Does anyone know what these bigger things are?" as he chops at the nearest yellow creature.
still a little confused, but figured I could post an attack and GM Wolf can sort it. Børak will move 30 ft into the room, presenting an optional target. I'm not sure if Magenta is alive/conscious. If it is, Børak will attack magenta. If Magenta is not alive/conscious, Børak will attack the yellow creature: I looked under the fourth round spoiler, since magenta isn't attacking I'll focus on yellow: + 1 bardiche, power attack

confirm crit: 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 1 - 2 = 8 for damage: 1d10 + 1 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 6 + 6 = 21
