Today you have been summoned to the vestibule at the entry of the Lorespire Complex Archives. Located on the Lorespire campus within Absalom Station, the Archives serve as a repository of information formed from both digital and physical objects the Starfinders have gathered across the galaxy and continue to study.
There you are to meet Royo, the leader of the Cognates faction, a scholar, and member of the Starfinder Society Forum. Your aid has been requested in aiding with research into a lingering questions left unanswered given the hectic natures of the prior years. With your aid, your group will be able to answer the archivist's inquiry.

![]() |

A rather nervous looking halfling enters vestibule. Is anyone here? I hope I'm not too early (or horribly late)

![]() |

A drow follows the nervous looking halting in the room.
With grace he gets next to the wall and with detachment he says I think we are the first my friend. Hope we will not wait too much, my time has value.

![]() |

An android with a gleaming gold face face and intense eyes, RZMR scans the room. Value your time indeed, he nods approvingly at the drow, and live a good life that benefits society.
It's not about being early or late, but about being in the right place at the right time to make your sacrifice and give to the greater good.
The weather report for today: stable outlook with no wind and mid-day temprature at 293K. RZMR adds, stating the obvious for an indoor environment.

![]() |

A Vlaka with fur shading from blueish grey to almost snowlike white enters the room. Head held high, he holds a simple tactical spear with protective cover on the tip casually in his left hand, almost carrying it like a walking stick, tapping the ground with it slightly every few steps. A thick string runs over the breastplate of his hardsuit with several talismans made from bone and other organic materials. Right in the middle and rather bigger than the other talismans sits the golden sun of Sarenrae. "value our time, we should indeed. But it's value stems from the motives with which we spend it...greetings and a bright day to you!"

![]() |

"I made it!" A little blue worlanisi arrives, sweaty from her run as she slides in the door. She's wearing light armor, and a butterfly-shaped mote floats around her head. "Hey everyone, I'm Chance! I'm on jaunt, trying to explore as many worlds as I can." Then she looks around at the intimidating archives all around her. "Um... I hope some of the rest of you are good at research. I'm not the most academically inclined person, but I am lucky. I can sometimes even share that luck!"
She offers one of her four hands to each of you to shake in turn. "Nice to meet you! Where have you traveled so far?"

GM Blazej |

"I would second that question as I would be greatly interested in your ventures and studies."
Your dialogue has drawn the attention of Royo. The ysoki leader is dressed in a handcrafted suite and is taking a moment to look over a set of loose papers upon a bench. He redoubles efforts to quickly bundle them together before turning his attention to you.
"Before that though, I admit we have business to cover the immediate and we can discuss more pleasantries momentarily. I believe you must be the newest research team and I am happy to be able to welcome you all."
Holding paw to chest he gives brief greeting, "for those of you I have yet to meet, let me introduce myself. I'm Royo, and I was once a field agent, like you. Of more relevance, I'm a lifetime scholar and longtime patron of several archives, including this one. I have a very important assignment for you."
"Recent events have undermined trust and confidence in our Society, both within and without. In addition, the fragility of digital records has been amply illustrated." He takes the moment to tap the bundle of papers before gesturing back toward your group. "Your task is to use your sleuthing skills and cognitive abilities to uncover everything you can about a former agent named Iroiveth. Although Iroiveth is dead, we're hoping to discover their connections and trace them to ensure they're no longer active—or to take appropriate action if any are." Looking toward RZMR he notes, "barring any unexpected intrusions, it is my hope that you will not be pressed into any more dire decisions this day."
Royo neatens his papers before sliding them into a well-worn document pouch. "Come with me. I'll show you the area where you'll be working. We can continue this conversation on the way. I'm sure you have questions, and I've learned it's best to first address what is uppermost in the mind. Although I am very much curious to your prior experiences as well."
He is open to your questions as he leads the way forward through the Archives.

![]() |

RZMR meets Royo's eye with a stern, concerned gaze. The subversive element must be exterminated with root and all to prevent contamination - allowing it to spread uncontested may allow society itself to crumble. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. What is known of the associates of the individual called Iroiveth?

GM Blazej |

"I rather not impress a definite conclusion when there is let more evidence to be uncovered," offers Royo as he navigates around a set of servers and multiple archival rooms.
"Your question is one I like to see answered myself. We have no information on Ivoiveth, beyond the minor amount we have found in the preceding months. That fact is what has brought this matter to the Cognates," he states while waggling a finger. "Ivoiveth provided aid to Datch, another whose plots were to discredit the Starfinder Society. Ivoiveth provided information about the Society and our procedures."
"In the time since, Datch has indicated that Ivoiveth was just a single individual representing a larger organization. During our extraction of Datch, Ivoiveth attacked with lethal force and, unfortunately, they were killed in that skirmish."
Royo leads down a turn among the corridors as you see others bustling about and attending to labs, racks of archival boxes, and many more doors that are securely locked.
Still focused on the matter though, Royo continues, "When we investigated their body, we found the elf had several unique and high-tech hybrid cybernetic augmentations. More disturbingly, we discovered an old model of our subdermal implant, marking them as a Starfinder agent from about 100 years ago."

![]() |

"Subdermal implant?" Chance asks, and then blinks when Royo show her. "Oh, that's lit! How do I get one of those?"
Then Chance asks, "Um, what other sort of cybernetic augmentations did you find on Ivoiveth?" Chance looks around, nervously. "Also, what sort of research do you want us to be doing? Other than some knowledge of magic and galactic culture, I'm not much of an academic." She looks embarrassed. "I spent much of my childhood surfing and doing other sports, too."

![]() |

Did we get anything from Datch about how they met? Did this elf identify Datch somehow as an enemy of the Society?
I'm relatively new to the Society, and been on a few missions. but not many.
Norbert nervously looks around at the rest of the Starfinders as they walk.

![]() |

Albrik listens carefully, while scratching the fur under his chin from time to time. Then he answers:
I'm in service to the Radiant One almost since I arrived at Absalom-Station for the first time. Only recently has my service to her led my path into the ranks of this society. But I will do my best to shed a light on what has happened. Is there someone, we might talk to, who possibly knows more about this?

![]() |

Woe to the man who betrays his master, for his actions shall be judged. RZMR says after learning the elf is a former Starfinder agent.
He then says to Royo Knowledge is the key to power, and you have hoarded a significant amount here, for the benefit of all society. As for myself, I am eternal, the past present and future. I have been challenged by many, and all have been found wanting.
Please mind the gap between the train and the platform.

Other than some knowledge of magic and galactic culture, I'm not much of an academic." She looks embarrassed. "I spent much of my childhood surfing and doing other sports, too."
"I'm certain you will have the opportunity to gain a marker of your membership with time," responds Royo to Chance's initial query. "Ivoiveth had an extensive array of augmentations, the abilities of which I believe are still being studied today. I can't share all what I know, but I can tell you their other augmentations provided a large number of abilities including, but not limited to, enhanced senses, long-range communication, and physical endurance. They were all more advanced than anything within the Pact or Veskarium thus far."
Reaching an elevator and enters an access code. While waiting he addresses the concern about what your group may be required to do by declaring, "Chance, I suggest you are underestimating your talents even in fields of research. You will be helping sort through a vast amount of ancient physical media for any references to Ivoiveth in order to learn more about them, their activities, and their associates. A keen mind, an attentive eye, a cautious hand, or even an ample amount of patience are all useful tools here and elsewhere."
"Did we get anything from Datch about how they met? Did this elf identify Datch somehow as an enemy of the Society?
"Datch's information on Ivoiveth raised as many questions as it answered." The elevator opens up and Royo steps aboard. The takes position at the back as though leading a seminar as he continues to speak. "Ivoiveth was the one that approached Datch offering information on our organization for compensation. Datch herself claimed that she suspected that Ivoiveth, or the organization they worked for, was interested against the interests of the Starfinder Society, but not of their past affiliation with our organization. She was as surprised as any other when Iroiveth employed force to ensure we didn't take Datch alive."
Offering comfort, Royo addresses the wariness and caution by saying, "Norbert and Mizzrym, I'm grateful to have you here. I do not ascribe your lack of missions to a lack of talent and experience. Having a set of fresh eyes may very well be as critical as any other."

GM Blazej |

Albrik listens carefully, while scratching the fur under his chin from time to time. Then he answers:

But I will do my best to shed a light on what has happened. Is there someone, we might talk to, who possibly knows more about this?
The elevator opens up into a far more neglected portion of the archives. The lighting is far dimmer, the air is filled with dusty scent that has been untouched by filters for years, and the décor is many decades out of date. Royo leads the way into the halls as they answer Albrik, "well, as it was evident from their implant that at one time Iroiveth was a Starfinder. There were extensive efforts made to search through our digital files, but all of those proved without results. Even Guidance has nothing, which is most troubling."
"We suspect these omissions result from deliberate tampering, but"[b], he says, taking a moment to take a pointed pause for emphasis as he holds his hand in the air. [b]"I think it is highly improbable that they would have been able to remove all physical evidence as well. I have a few of my agents working within through the physical records in search for information that may answer our questions. While the documents may not be able to speak, they very well can provide a volume knowledge even still! They have been working for several hours and you will be relieving them as you search through the records. You may even find the names of others who have more information."
Woe to the man who betrays his master, for his actions shall be judged. RZMR says after learning the elf is a former Starfinder agent.
With RZMR's pronouncement Royo does give a nod, "that I can well encourage. By uncovering the truth and identifying which digital records have been corrupted, we're in a better position to make amends as a Society and to make accurately informed decisions going forward."
With special attention Royo carefully thinks and adds with a calm tone, Likewise, if there are other criminals and traitors hiding within the Society, we must reveal them and take appropriate action. This should help restore trust in our organization and between factions." He makes special care to not encourage an inquisition of sorts.

![]() |

I take it we should go ahead and get started then?
Assuming that we are ready to start investigating, Norbert will start looking for clues. He has Darkvision, so the low light shouldn't be an issue.

"I would like to get started as well!" Chance says, fairly bouncing.

"I'm going to look through these records, and see if I can spot any patterns. Let me sift through these with you, Norbert." Chance uses all four arms to sift through documents, and goes through the drawers next to Norbert.
Chance also has Darkvision, if that matters.

GM Blazej |

"I absolutely applaud your enthusiasm. First though you should speak to those you are relieving. Building upon their efforts is likely to save all time. They're around here somewhere... ah! There they are." After a moment looking through the series of empty rooms Royo gestures at a willowy ghoran bent over a filing cabinet.
"Wonderful! Fresh eyes and more hands," says the ghoran in a melodious tone. There is a just a hint of exhaustion in her voice but that is still far overwhelm more her excitement and joy. "Welcome! I'm Morning Song. Come inside and let us show you what we've achieved so far.”
Morning Song leads the way into a chaotic mess. Piles of boxes, files, loose papers, and books are stacked everywhere. Some are sorted, but most of the room is a jumble and covered in dust. A small mound of bright reflective tape in assorted colors is heaped near the entrance with ribbons of the tape adhering to various items in the room.
One of the taller stacks trembles as a shiny SRO emerges to join the group, their digits tangled in the colorful tape. "It's about time. We've been
sorting paperwork for hours." The SRO's metal eyebrows settle into a grouchy frown as they fiddle with the tape. Their digits move with ever fast paced patterns in an effort remove the variety of tacky strips while they exude low thrumming grumble.
"Please don't take offense," pipes in Morning Song, "Lulo's been grouchy since the Data Scourge. Not without reason, mind you. It's taken a toll on most."
Lulo summarizes the complex series of feelings on the matter with a curt grunt. Lulo waves at the accumulation of records around them. "Yes, well, thanks for taking over. Do you have any questions before we leave?"
I'll keep those checks for now, but I would hold off on more checks for a moment. If you have any questions for Morning Song or Lulo on the current status of the investigation or any other information you might want information on before the leave and hand off the reins of the search for the moment.

GM Blazej |

Morning Song's voice is filled with delight as she responds, "it is absolutely wonderful to meet you Chance." She gestures to the rolls of colored table as well as the pieces affixed to various objects varying from single documents to full cabinets. "We have been using this tape to mark where we've searched and what's been cleared. It tears easily and is a breeze to work with."
"I started using different colors to designate different types of records but ended up just grabbing the nearest roll most of the time, so there's no longer any pattern to it. Anything marked with tape has already been cleared by Lulo or myself. If you want to keep using it to mark what you have reviewed that would be wonderful!"
Finally free of the tap, Lulu answers RZMR with a buzz, "there isn't enough shelves around to hold the irrelevant paperwork that has built up here. There are operational records, legal documents, and even personal effects have landed in here. At the very least I think we have sorted out which piles belong to which decade or dig through piles of onboarding manuals!" They gesture briskly to several different rooms indicating areas where to start searching. "There are several boxes for enlistment records about, that was what I was about to try to get through this mess and at least narrow down potentials that match Iroiveth's description."

![]() |

Thanks for the head start. Are you putting the tape in a particular part of the file, or just somewhere on the cover?
Has anything odd turned up so far?
I'm not sure how much faith I would put in Iroiveth's description. It sounds like they were pretty heavily modified through the years.

![]() |

"Personal effects? What sort of personal effects?" Chance asks. "Is there anything interesting in there?"

GM Blazej |

"Placed it where ever it will stick," Lulu injects in answer to Norbert.
Morning Song clarifies, "it depends, but I've been putting on the outside. So you will find boxes marked with tape along with folders. It has made the effort a lot more colorful and stopped us from doubling back on our work so far."
Lulu gestures to couple objects in a stack, journals, art books, and a plaque. "Odd, but not useful. At least not yet. Certain someone could write a thesis on what we have gone through, but we haven't found much on Iroiveth yet."
Gesturing to one of the marked journals, they add, "best I can tell there are belongings that just got lost down here. I've gone through a few journals already looking for anything that might give any direction. A few record of a cadet's first year as a Starfinder going on missions and their personal activities. Someone might be glad to get it, but I didn't see anything on solving this mystery."
Lulu gives a bit of an agreeable groan as they admit to Norbert, "I expect them to cover their tracks, but at least I'm pretty certain their enlistment records would mark them as an elf. Compared to what we have seen so far, I'll take narrowing the scope as much as I can."
With the information so far shared, and the Cognates about to depart for a time, Royo tells you, "I'm looking forward to your results on this assignment. You will have certainly earned a good cup of tea and a delicious snack by the time you report to me with your findings at day's end."
Lulu grumbles a bit as they offer their gratefulness to your aid. Morning Song repeats this with a bit more exuberance and notes, "me and Lulu will be back in a few hours once we get some food, read and some light. I'll make sure to bring refreshments for each of you."
Barring any other questions, they leave you to the work of dealing with the search through the mass of messy paperwork before you.

Given the plethora of records Chance does start going through the vast array of documents. She is able to find one of the enlistment boxes that has records for the time period that matches when Ivoiveth was suspected of being a member of the Society. After nearly an hour going through each record one by one, Chance finds a record for Iroiveth.
Within the box are two sequential files for the enlistment of Iroiveth and their sister Evethriel that applied to join, and were accepted into, the Starfinder Society together. There attached pictures along with the documents that depicted a pair of elves that show a striking familial likeness.
Chance is able to connect that to a nearby cache that holds personal evaluations of Starfinders for that same time period. It takes a bit more time but she fines another bit of information in the form of an evaluation by Venture-Captain Koerah, a Venture-Captain from a hundred years ago.
This report reviewing Iroiveth mentions a strong bond developing between a small group of Starfinders who work well together. It further comments that Iroiveth has shown natural leadership within the group.
* * * *
Elsewhere Norbert searches the far and dark corners and cubbies of the records. He is able to match them to a few boxes of records linked to the former Venture-Captain.
Within a box of records marked "filing", Norbert finds an unofficial report to Venture-Captain Koerah from someone named Almina.
As requested, I followed Iroiveth and confirmed they frequently meet with the others in Rec Room 247 in the Starfinder Quarters. After I observed them entering, I waited 20 minutes before moving in for a closer look. They were no longer there! I swear they couldn’t have slipped by without me seeing them.
Another box was labeled VC Koerah and contained a collection of personal effects. The contents included pictures of the lashunta and her presumably her family. There are also some personal awards of merit and a personal diary. The diary is a yellowed book with a large number of pages that have been ripped out.
One of the entries right before that gap is of special interest.
I'm pleased to note that my youngest daughter's pregnancy is progressing well, and the infant seems healthy. I wonder if they'll follow in our footsteps and join the Starfinder Society. On a less cheerful note, Iroiveth and Evethriel have again been reported as bullying newer recruits and trying to sway them to conduct unbecoming of a Starfinder.
Following the removed pages the journal has several blank pages, but Norbert catches sight of a easy to miss entry right at the back.
This mission is unexpected. I'm sure that team is behind this somehow, but none of them are going, so it must be to get me out of the way. I'll have someone keep an eye on them in my absence. Perhaps Almina's available.
* * * *
Mizzrym' finds success as well amid stacks of inventory documents. There he found a misfiled incident report that discussed missing supplies and the suspicion that Iroiveth was involved, specifically noting that they had a duty shift a little before the alleged theft was discovered. Adding to the suspicions, the reporter states that several of Iroiveth's cronies were seen in the area. Unfortunately, insufficient evidence was found to file a formal accusation. Based on the lack of sign off or response attached to this document, it's unclear if this report was ever seen by those it was intended for.
* * * *
Both RZMR and Albrik look for trace elements of magic, unfortunately RZMR shapes the the fields as he moves about creating a trail of magic in his wake. The brief disruption is not insurmountable though and Albrik is able to just sort through it and find one of boxes filled with physical copies of mission reports still holding a waning seal protecting the contents from divination magic.
Among the reports is one where Iroiveth led a team, including Evethriel. The mission was a success, but an appended unofficial complaint states that several of the Starfinders, including the leader, were offensive in their dealings with the locals and condescending to officials.

GM Blazej |

With a bit more than an hour passed you still likely have another half to your shift before Morning Song and Lulo return for you to see about drawing more information for the investigation.
You all can make another round of skill checks using that same list as before. Let me know if there is any information you would like to follow upon the trail of or questions you might have what what you have already found.

A slim male dirindi dressed in Vesk brigandine comes in carrying three more boxes of stuff. They are dragging a cart with a few more boxes haphazardly stacked on it.
As he comes in the room, he calls out “Hello? Are you the research team looking into the elf Iroiveth?”
He drops the boxes on one of the tables.
“Royo had me organizing a different area of the archives, and decided to reassign me here.” Gesturing at the boxes, he adds “Did it when I brought these to him and told them how they were in the wrong area. Found them in the records for 170 years ago, but it’s much too recent for that.”
“I’m Trill, by the way.” He waves as he gives his name. Noticing the colored tape, he asks “What is the tape for?”

![]() |

Welcome aboard. The tape is just an indicator that file has been looked at. It is part of sorting things out. Norbert says as he nods to the newcomer.

GM Blazej |

Norbert and Albrik work together going through documents looking for additional records on Evethriel. Similar to Iroiveth the information you discover is few and far between. There are no records so far of any sign of where Evethriel or her participation in the Starfinders aside the records you are reviewing.
Getting sets of records boxes and Albrik reviewing reveals one document amid a stack medical records that mentions Evethriel. It is a medical request for a augmentation upgrade submitted by Evethriel but denied. The denial indicates the requested augmentation is considered experimental and is not approved for use yet.
There are no shortage of records and Chance is able to bring pull in the racks of boxes as the group pours through a barrage of reports, photos, and miscellaneous documents. Among them is a report from Absalom Station Security regarding the murder of a Starfinder. The report outlines strong evidence against a local thief, but the thief was killed in an execution-style hit before they could be apprehended. Gang violence was suspected. Someone else has written "Iroiveth?" at the bottom of the report. The name is more familiar to Mizzrym' and it recalls back to the one of the documents from earlier. He realizes that the murdered Starfinder is the same Starfinder who reported the missing supplies.
With Trill's eyes fresh on the problem he is able to get to work pulling in more documents. Eventually the group lands on retirement notices, death certificates, until eventually finding a "Missing In Action" report for Venture-Captain Koerah.
Filed with the MIA report is a copy of a "Failure To Report For Duty" form for Starfinder Almina. Almina's report is updated as "Confirmed Missing" with a description of a female gnome technomancer and the annotation, "Isn't this the one who suggested foul play in Koerah's disappearance?"
Records become thinner at this point, but the group may be able to search for on the infosphere to see if Venture-Captain Koerah or Almina have records either there or in the Starfinder Society databases.
That would be a Computers check to search computers systems for information on them.
After several hours or work Lulo and Morning Song return carrying cases of drinks and snacks. Lulu whirrs a bit at the site of the additionally marked documents and notes, "you have been running at a hot pace to pour through that much. Hopefully you have something more to show for it than we did."
"I'm certain there must by something," Morning Song notes with a smile as she hands out the refreshments. "How has the search gone? Anything stand out to you?"

It seems VC Koerah was suspicious of Iroiveth and some of her compatriots for bad acts. Unfortunately, people who said or acted against Iroiveth tended to disappear or turn up dead.
Iroiveth had a sister, Evethriel, and we are trying to find out what happened to her.
Once we are done with this, I'd like to search Rec Room 247 in the Starfinder Quarters. It seems something suspicious happened there. It was a long time ago, but there might still be evidence there, perhaps a secret door or room?

Lulo buzzes as they take their own look at the enlistment records. "Bloodly arrogant. It was almost taken as certain that Iroiveth was a false identify since they were no records of them. It seems like people were giving them far more credit if they were just working with their registered name!"
Pulling from the records, Norbert isn't able to find any record of Evethriel's presence in the Society despite being able to find other records of Starfinders from that same era. Norbert is able to confirm that Venture-Captain Koerah was a leader of that era that had vanished and was never found in the years since.
RZMR is able to follow more extensive chains of records from the past centuries and identifies that Koerah has a few surviving descendants including the currently active Venture-Captain Arvin. Arvin is a Venture-Captain based on Absalom Station and is a responsible for much for the missions many, including several of you, have been assigned to in your time as Starfinders.
The records regarding the group Iroiveth traveled with are limited and there isn't much detail on the group aside it being a small team that worked together approximately made up of six members. Their records might be among the documents you searched, but there is no lead among the document to help identify them.

After time to go over these new fightings Morning Star returns holding out a glowing, pulsing purple ball of light. Morning Star addresses the your team. "This is a prototype I've been working on with our archaeological department. Your investigation seems like an ideal opportunity for a field test."
"Once you're in the room that Iroiveth disappeared from, decide which area is the most likely to provide clues. Throw this at the area. If it impacts a solid object, like a table or wall, it should activate and highlight any surface irregularities—things like faded carvings, architectural details, and hidden doors. Currently, we’ve been achieving a coverage of about a ten-foot burst, so make sure none of you are in the target area when you throw it. If there's a secret door or hidden exit in the room, it may help you find it. The glow will only last about five minutes." She offers a quick apologetic, "We're working on that." She carefully passed over the device to anyone willing to accept responsibility for it.

Sigh, another opportunity to be a guinea pig for R&D. I guess I'll take it, and we'll see what we get. What happens if someone is in the target area when it is thrown? Could this be weaponized?

"Did I understand that right? None of you found any lead on who the people in this group were? Not even a name? That's a real pitty. I would have liked to hear what they have to say for themselves. But looks like that rec room is our best place to start. So let's take a look there."
He grabs his stuff from the corner and prepares to leave.

“The stuff I found was about VC Koerah and the gnome Almina.” Trill admits as he picks up a couple of rolls of tape, putting them in his pockets.

Chance looks at Albrik, "But we've found plenty of leads so far!" Chance pulls out the notes she is currently compiling on what the team has found so far.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
"And we wouldn't have found any of this information without the advance work of Lulo and Morning Song!"
Still compiling my notes here. Feel free to add information to them. Also let's not offend our fellow researchers.
Then Chance wakes her hireling from the Research Rat franchise who was snoozing in a corner. "It's time for us to go, Research Rat! Maybe we'll find something that requires your special skills!"
