The entrance of the Sun and Stars has a facade in Gokan style, with a large, intricately carved door. Within there is a desk of polished mahogany, with a woman similarly in a fancy Gokan dress seated behind it. She gives the group a bow as they enter.

"Greetings, travelers. How many in your party? I deeply apologize, but we have only a few rooms remaining open," she says in only slightly accented Common, bowing again.

A staircase goes to the next floor on the left side of the desk. On the right side a carved entryway separates the reception desk from a dining room, softly lit with hanging lanterns. Amongst the other decorations, you can just barely make out the corner of a huge map hanging on one wall.

"Well, I require a room for myself. I don't know about the others, of which there are four. But, I am willing to pay extra for my own room. We'll also need hot meals."

Sifso chuckles. "Aww, apparently the Fox is a delicate sleeper. You know we may have to sleep on the ground before this is over, yes?"

Turning to their host, he says, "Are there two rooms beside one another? If so, perhaps we can split ourselves between them."

Once the rooms are settled, Sifso goes and scopes out the common rooms, giving a glance to the huge map out of curiosity, but mostly looking for individuals who might be threats.

"We have one small private suite and two individual rooms available. I apologize, but they are not next to one another. Meals are served in there," the woman indicates the dining room.

Two other groups sit at tables in the dining area. One seems to be made of well-to-do Ulfen, while the other looks to be from further south in Tian Xia by their dress and speech. They both look curiously at the group--Myth in particular seems to attract attention from the Ulfen, but none speak to you. Some of them have minor magical auras of the sort well-protected travelers might have.

The map is an exquisitely rendered piece of art, and clearly ancient--the countries on it look to predate Imperial Lung Wa. Every detail of terrain is depicted with beautiful, tiny renderings in ink.

Oddly enough, four peaks in the Wall of Heaven are depicted as towering far above the others. Their positions relative to one another are exactly the same as the relative positions Brennus had marked on his map of places his divinations were blocked...

Knowledge (Geography) 20:
There are definitely not four giant peaks in that area.

Gardolf shrugs. "I'll sleep wherever, but I wouldn't object to a bed and a bath. If Lord Fox wants an individual room where he can let it all hang out, I imagine the rest of us would be just fine in the private suite." He peers at the other parties from under his bushy brows and tries to look unapproachable. He mentally congratulates himself on his tactics working when none of them speak to him.

"Excellent! I will take the private suite, and I'll pay for my companions rooms as well." He then does just that, as well tipping her a few extra gold.

Wandering over to the map, he instantly notes the odd peaks where none should be, and how they seem similar to the divination blocked spots on Brennus' map.

"I assume you all noted the peculiar peaks on that map? I think those might be our first hint." He says to the group, as he takes a seat one of the empty tables, and looks over the menu.

The drow sighs and sets his mind upon the nice lady behind the desk.

Suggestion for the nice lady:
You know how some guests like to throw their weight around. Making three guests perfectly comfortable and one slighty-less entitled will still earn you and your staff a good flow of coin in tips. The fox is cunning, but bushy-eyed wizard spoke first. He will get the suite for himself and the other two.

DC24 Suggestion:
You may plant thoughts into a target’s mind.

Lesser Charm: You may plant a suggestion in a target’s mind, which they obey as if the thought had been their own (Will negates). The suggested course of activity must be limited to a sentence or two and must be a very simple request. The creature performs the suggested action until it finishes, or for 1 hour per caster level, whichever comes first. If you choose, you can instead specify conditions the creature should look for, (i.e., “you should search the next person who enters this room, looking for weapons.”) If the condition is not met before this duration expires, the activity is not performed.

A panel in the back wall opens as she speaks and an angry older woman storms out. "You!" she shouts, pointing at Valas. "You should be ashamed of yourself. Trying to charm my daughter into giving you a discount! Well, after the first time we got some enchantments of our own for that. Out, get out!"

Valas cocks one eyebrow in confusion. There has been no discussion of a discount. The gruff man over here spoke first and we would get the suite.

He quickly turns to leave, muttering to his companions.

Let's... go find an inn with less surveillance where we won't be setting off alarms all night as we practice our crafts and divine the meaning of the unnatural peaks.

The older woman throws her hands up in the air. "Then just say something! I swear, you younglings trying to do everything with your magic..."

She turns to her daughter. "Did he speak first?" she asks, pointing at Gardolf. At her nod, she continues, "Then he gets the room if you five can't come to an agreement yourselves. Just don't cast anything on my daughter again!"

Gardolf's unapproachable aura intensifies. He growls, "It sounds as if four of us will try to squeeze into the suite, while our clever fox friend stays in his own room." He looks at Vulpiano. "Of course, you're welcome to visit us there and help us make plans if you wish." His eyes glitter a bit.

"Valas, I'm not sure how things are done in the Drow lands, but in polite society, we do not use mind magic to try and charm or dominate the hostess of an inn. I get you apparently do not like me, but that is no reason to try and hoodwink me out of a room I had already paid for." The young man says, addressing the drow.

He then turns to the mother and daughter duo. "My sincerest apologies for my friend here. He's not from civilized lands, so he didn't realize what a breach of etiquette it was for him to use a charm spell on your daughter. While my grumpy friend here did indeed answer first, he interrupted my talking over the availability of rooms with your daughter. That said, when I accepted the suite, I had assumed it was not big enough for four people. Usually a suite has one bed. If they all want to smoosh together into one room, they can have it. If that's the case, you may give away the other room to another guest, since I've paid for all three." He says, switching to Tien in proper deference and respect.

Gardolf shakes his head and speaks again to the mother and daughter. "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I don't know who this man in the fox mask is. It is very generous for him to offer to pay for our rooms, but since we are not staying together, I think I must refuse his offer-- with great respect and thanks. My friends and I will take the suite, good hosts, and we will pay for it ourselves." He turns to Vulpiano and winks at him playfully. "My dear Lord Fox, if you would like to visit us in our rooms and perhaps get to know us better, you are of course welcome. Otherwise, perhaps we can meet and discuss our plans here in the dining room after we have all had a chance to refresh ourselves from our long journey."

"You don't know who I am, eh? Well, I guess that means I'll take my leave of you all now, and go on my way. Do tell Mr Brenus that I'm sorry I couldn't be of help, but I refuse to work with those who have such absolutely rotten manners and conduct themselves so disrespectfully. That's assuming of course, you still remember who he is."

With that, Vulpiano turns to leave the inn.


Male Archangel of Awesome Paladin of Badassery 20

Before the young nobleman can exit The Sun and Stars, a fearsome looking quartet practically storm inn. Their leader, a lithe humanoid with pointed ears, glowing green eyes, and ram’s horns, points a crystalline scimitar at Valas. "That's him, the traitor Kyrsus wants, dead or alive. Anybody else are playthings which can be broken or discarded, if they get in our way."

Aside from the one who spoke, there are two androgynous humanoids who also have pointed ears, and glowing green eyes. They have six fingers on each slender hand. There is also a horrific, skeletal looking alien that appears to be burning from within, a flaming glow shining through its emaciated chest. It is cloaked in wings of darkness, though it too has eyes that glow green.

Myth, who'd been getting rather bored with this whole thing (sleeping outside was fine with her!), turns and grins at the interesting creatures entering. She'd been restraining her shapeshifting while in the city, but here might be an opportunity to try out some of her most recent ideas...

Sifso's eyes narrow as he realizes that Valas had tried to charm someone for his own amusement...and then sighs as the young noble decides to walk off.

Without moving a muscle, a breeze blows and Sifso is beside the 'silver fox', and between his companions and the fae. He whispers to the young noble in the ancient language of the giants, "Karai zorro, epyta ha ehecha mba’épa iñimportanteve; pe misión oñeme’ẽva’ekue ñandéve, térã peteĩ joavy umi--admitidamente impar--compañerokuéra ndive orrecibiva’ekue ko misión? Giant (and whatever the highest DC I can get for whispering in this noisy common room):
"Mr fox, stop and consider what is more important; the mission we've been given, or a squabble with the--admittedly odd--fellows that have recieved this mission? Before you answer, note that YOU are yourself one of the odd ones, with your insistance on masks and privacy.

"And speaking of our odd compatriots...does your voluminous scholarship extend to this 'Kyrsus'?"

As he speaks, he never takes his eyes off of the fae challengers. He shows no outward sign of tension, but he is ready to strike at a moment's notice if need be.

Gardolf raises his eyebrows in surprise at Vulpiano's reaction, but before he can comment on it the creatures burst in to the room. Frowning darkly, he reacts to their obvious aggression by casting a spell, gripping his staff with one hand and waving the other in a series of intricate movements while murmuring arcane words.

He casts shillelagh on Blackstaff.

He cocks his head when he "hears" Valas's voice in his brain. He shakes his head, as if warding away an annoying insect. "You will have to defeat all of us to take down one of us," he says lightly to the opposing enemies.

The young nobleman ignores Sifso's initial question, as now was not the time to discuss such matters. He does offer some insight into their potential foes. "Hmm, their body type and pointed ears mean they are likely either fae or elven. However the glowing green eyes, when coupled with the rest along with their coming after Valas, means they are probably members of the Wild Hunt. The one shrouded in shadows is an Ankou, which ae usually *not* counted among the Hunt." Saying that, he turns to their Drow companion. "You come with a most unusual assortment of foes my friend."

Gardolf glares at his enemies. He begins chanting and weaving his hand gripping his staff, wincing as the magic courses through him.

He activates his bloodrage as a free action. With his standard and move actions he casts a widened fireball, using Meta-rage to apply Widen Spell and Magic Trick to concentrate fire and cluster bomb the archers. He also uses Rage Casting to increase the Reflex save DC to 26 (save for half). Each mini-fireball has only a 5' radius, so he uses them like single-target spells against each opponent.

Gardolf's familiar moves and then uses Choral Support as a standard action to convert the fire damage into sonic damage.

Belladhriel has constant detect evil, and if their enemies do detect as evil she would immediately share that information.

Sifso lets the breeze carry him up above the tables and smiles at the fae challengers, and gives a challenging smile to the leader in particular. "Go ahead and take him. You just have to take me first."

Swift: Guardian's Challenge - He now gets +2 to attack me, -4 on attacks that don't target me. I get +3 to hit & +7 to damage him.

Gracefully, he enters the ready stance he has practiced as a Mashujaa Kumi wa Uchawi, one of the Ten Magic Warriors. Spend Martial Focus to begin a Patrol as a Move action.
- Threatened area expands to 45'. (Reach is still "only" 30', but he can move for free to attack foes that trigger AoOs anywhere within that 45' range.)
- That entire 45' radius counts as difficult terrain for all foes (so no 5' steps, 2x move cost)
- 1/round, can take an AoO if one of the foes tries to cast a spell or SLA (even if they do defensively so normally wouldn't trigger)
- [Due to Sifso's Power, Shimye-Magalla’s Vengence] Whenever Challenged enemies–and/or enemies within a Patrol–make an attack that does not include Sifso as a target, they trigger an AoO from Sifso. Additionally, they must make a Will save or become shaken until the end of their next turn (DC 25 = 10 + ½ level + WIS modifier). Successive triggers of this ability increase the fear to a greater condition, as normal, and the condition is applied before the effect in question, potentially penalizing or disrupting the action. The target is aware of this effect.

Sifso then snaps out with a lightning-fast punch that couldn't possibly reach the leader--but Shimye-Magala's winds carry the force straight to smash him in the face.

Myth charges from under the table where she'd been hiding, her form flowing and surging with each stride, her middle pair of legs moving upward to become a pair of arms ending in a wicked set of claws and the tentacle sprouting a stinger at the end. As she leaps at the back of the fae creature, the air seems to warp and bend around her, making her exact position difficult to pin down.

If at all possible she attacks from a position she can flank with Sifso from--no idea if her stealth roll last round was good enough for this to be a surprise attack.

You each need to make a DC 22 Fort save to avoid being entangled for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds and a DC 22 Will save to avoid being dazed for 1 round. DC 22 Ref save halves the damage, but you still need to make the other two saves.
