While we wait to start, please allow me to lay out the ground rules, which are designed for fairness and consistency, while keeping the game moving at a pace to ensure we finish in a timely manner.
⚔ Please make it obvious what buffs you have active and what your AC is. If those change often, and you don't want to update your tag line frequently, please at least post them in OOC.
⚔ Miss is always low if a miss chance applies. For example, if there is a 50% miss chance on a melee attack, a result of 1-50 on d100 is a miss.
⚔ I roll group initiative and track character actions. Unless you state you are waiting for another to act, I will adjudicate those actions in the order they were posted to the extent that it makes sense, as those posting later have the benefit of acting based on what’s come before in the thread.
⚔ You may delay to a later position in the initiative sequence as usual.
⚔ If I make a mistake, please let me know, and I will try to make it right. If it’s too far back, too complex to correct, or too minor to matter, we may have to accept it and move on, with the understanding that I will be fair and equitable.
⚔ I generally prefer PCs to roll their own saving throws, miss chances, and Attacks of Opportunity (AoO). It keeps the game moving, and by reducing my workload it means I may be able to make a quick post when I otherwise wouldn’t have had time.
⚔ I like a relatively fast-paced scenario. However, do be aware that my posting can be irregular.
⚔ As such, if you do not post an action within 24 hours from when I invite you to post, I reserve the right to take actions for your character (botting). However, because of my highly unpredictable and erratic work and sleep schedule, that 24 hours is not a hard limit by any means. I encourage, but do not insist, that you have some botting instructions and/or dice macros in your character’s profile especially if you have specific things that they always or never do in combat or have very complex dice rolls for combat.
⚔ If at all possible, please let me know if something comes up that prevents you from posting. Likewise, I will do my best to update you all if I will be much more than 24 hours before my next post.
The name says it all. I’m a long-haul international cargo airline pilot. Many of my work days are spent sleeping as much as I can right up to the wake-up call before a flight, flying one or more 8 to 16 hour legs, then falling into bed at the next hotel. My employer’s jets do not have wifi because the boxes we carry don’t need to check their email or watch movies in flight. So it’s not unusual for me to not be able to post for 30+ hours on occasion. However, when I’m not sleeping or flying, I’m off duty in a hotel somewhere in the world with no responsibilities, and that’s when I can post as much as I need to and keep the game moving along.
Questions? Just let me know. Let's have fun!

I'm only asking for a Discord name as an alternate method of communication in case we have extended or frequent issues with the Paizo forums as happened during a PBP con a couple years ago or recently with the whole Cookie Fiasco. If you don't Discord, that's okay; as I said, it's just a backup.

Yes, bodyguard and in harm's way are used often. I do have the following formatted post that I usually put in to indicate when/how it will be used.
More importantly, if any adjacent ally is attacked (first attack vs. X, Y or Z), he uses his Bodyguard Feat to boost their AC by 2. If it still hits he uses his Harm's Way feat intercept the attack. If Hef is hit from this or ANY OTHER melee attack the enemy takes 1d6 electricity damage.

The best option would be to wrap it around a file, hide it in a baked cake and deliver it to my cell. If that isn't possible, email works I guess (brohopcp@gmail.com).

Oraeus has the medic archetype (allowing healing of hit points beyond hit point max to overflow into stamina) and Quicker Trickler (allowing potion feeding as a standard action) in addition to all the complex Vanguard abilities.

I'd love to get mine via flame. Print it out, burn the physical copy and then spread the ash to the winds. But if you've had troubles with getting things sent that way a link here or via discord PM is fine as well.

I love my chronicle to be brought with a basket of fruit and freshly brewed coffee ;) But discord is fine.
========================
I was wondering with my choice of PC, Buddy is not a skilled one, and we have Vanguard 4, Mystic 3, and here comes Solarian ;) So he is not a perfect fit, but I am interested to see how it would play out. And there are still 2 spots to fill ;)

It was recently brought to my attention that I should be asking for the Pronouns of my players. Usually people are pretty good about making their Characters' pronouns obvious. But as important as it is to respect Characters, it's truly more important to be respectful of my real-people Players. (I'm actually pretty good at doing this IRL; it just hadn't come up in PBP before.) So, if you don't mind could everyone let me (and us) know what pronouns you all use IRL.

I've tried copying and pasting this to send you a Friend request in Discord, but it fails and says I should check spelling, punctuation, etc. Do I need to use a different spelling? FWIW, I tried this a couple days ago also, and that's why I reached out to Farol to contact you.

If we’re looking for someone skilled, Krzysztofli would be my best candidate (though firmly in the lower tier at lvl 3). If we think a lvl 6 solarian would be a better fit, I’ve got one of those too.

Still need to level up the profile and go shopping.

![]() |

I'm fine with getting a hireling. Hell should have bought one after a game where noone could hack a computer.

![]() |

Hey Hawthwile and ‘Eκάτη, more friendly faces at the game.
I also have Hellih (the guy who was adapting Buddys armor) he is lvl 6 Mechanic.
Alternatively we can go with the heavy fighting team and invest in hirelings to cover the skills.

![]() |

Okay, party of 5 isn't optimal. With the levels you have it'll be low tier either way. And you've got an average Cha mod = +0.
I'll recruit for one more, and give preference to someone with a Diplo/Cha focus. I feel like that's what a real VC would do when assembling a team, especially given the nature of this scenario.
Hang tight....

![]() |

Technically I've got an Envoy 4, but they're reserved for Ivis's Author Table from PaizoCon. Not that they're terribly diplomatic (plus the copyright issues that would come from two characters having the same profile picture), but they at least have some charisma. XD
Entertainingly, the solarian 6 is also somewhat charismatic and diplomatic if we want to go that route.

![]() |

Allrighty! We're got a team. Apologies to those that thought they were getting high tier. But I've played with most of you before (Rilynn / Therenger being the sole exception), and I'm sure this will be a good game.
I do still need tokens on Slide 1 from K'ssatak-Sul, Krzysztofli, and Rilynn, please.

Interesting setting. Last year, while making a character for an ill-fated FATE campaign, I had a similar idea of a planet that was tidally locked to its star. I did a little research online and the concept of a habitable ring is dubious. If the hot side is uninhabitable, then none of it is. The terminator zone is literally the line between too hot and too cold, and the other requirements for indigenous intelligent life, like a stable atmosphere, liquid water, etc, are unlikely to exist naturally. The best you could hope for is a permanent ring of thunderstorms ravaging a narrow band along the axis, and that's only if there was water somehow. It's fun sci-fi, though.

![]() |

For me SF is cosmo fantasy which has nothing in common with science fiction. So I just don't think about such things. It's magic.

I like the idea of that planet. I don't know Astro physics enough to discuss what is possible vs what is not. At the same time, I can't shake the feeling, that our understanding of planets, physics and what are suitable environments to create life is only from Earth and carbon-based lifeforms.
Science models explain what we observe and believe to exist.
What I am trying to say is that I am not entirely certain when I read arguments about where could life be vs where it can't ;)
But again, I don't know science well...

For me, Starfinder is a system I am often frustrated by in a setting I absolutely love. I keep coming back because I'm a science fiction geek from when I was a kid watching reruns of the original Star Trek series. It would have been easy for Starfinder to keep fleshing out the same 6-10 races, publishing the umpteenth volume on the dynamics of Vesk society or whatnot, but instead they have allowed their writers the freedom to be creative. I really appreciate the diversity of ideas.

![]() |

@Rae I hear you. I was never a Star Trek fan. I watched Star Wars and in RP I was always more into fantasy than science fiction ;)
But then I started to read a bit of science fiction (like Altered Carbon), and I liked the ideas in those. What world could look like, the same goes with planets, societies etc. Yeah, I love the fact that writers make an attempt to present different worlds, with their unique features.
So I play both PF2 and SFS, and I find that SFS scenarios are way more interesting in terms of social problems, issues with slavery, moral choices, first contact etc. They (paizo) were even able to put more mystery into SFS than in PF2.

Question: Are those two Culture/Sense Motive spoilers for the same roll or for two different checks?

![]() |

Sorry, it should have been just one check, with different degrees of success. I debated nesting the spoilers, which I might try again later if it comes up. But thanks for letting me know it wasn't clear.
If K'ssatak-Sul / ‘Eκάτη doesn't see it, phaeton is looking for you at this thread: Recruiting post

![]() |

Thank you very much ))

![]() |

Sorry for the lack of posts there for a bit. It took me longer to feel ready and have the time to come back. Tahkn^you for bottling Oraeus, but should I roll for the Athletics and Acrobatics challenge before the current fight still or is it okay to handwave it?

![]() |

Glad you're feeling better.
To be fair, you probably should roll in case you take a little damage going into the fight, as Rilynn did. But I don't think it will make a difference in the end, which is why I didn't bother to bot them. (Plus, TBH, I was a little busy with travel and didn't want to look up to see if you had any special abilities, etc.)
So, up to you.

![]() |

Yeah, you are welcome to know what Hef knows. I think he would have grumbled something about 'if you really want an unfair fight which isn't really cool but whatever go ahead and use cold damage on the dogs to take them out faster' or something.
I was debating how to say it earlier than forgot to get it in.

![]() |

You know, I don't know why I put those in spoilers. Teams do usually share their knowledge, so in retrospect it seems unnecessary.
Is K'ssatak-Sul wielding a "lightsaber”? An emotionless Vader-voiced Hellknight in a mask? OMG, I love it! This is why I invite you. You have such cool characters!
@Oraeus, you should have gained 1 EP at the start of your first turn in combat, shouldn't you? You didn't spend it during your movement or attack, did you?
FWIW, my vanguard is a xenometric android, also. But a haan, so Large. Such fun with a reach weapon :)
@Hef: I don't think Oraeus' path to the flanking position put adjacent to you when Teosen hit him with the AO.
@Hef, yeah, I didn’t know what the “block?” And “starlight?” meant in your tagline. Let’s call it a hit, and I’ll apply the electrostatic damage to Teosen. Teosen's gotta have some fun, too.
@Krzysztofli: Yes, being FF to your attack means the ranged attack doesn’t provoke. But remember for future reference that any movement isn’t “the attack” so would provoke unless you have a feat or exploit to avoid that.

![]() |

Oraeus needed the +10 movement speed to get to flanking with his normally plodding speed.
I really wanted to make him a lashunta (in honor of his first iteration as a advanced melee wielding witchwarper for the playtest,) but the android suited a medic version better than pure lashunta.

I dunno, Rilynn, I suspect someone would have hit the button twice. (cough, cough, Buddy).
Plasma launchers vs everyone: +14 vs EAC, 4d10+2 E&F.
That's practically an automatic (don't roll a one) hit against half the party. Even if not all hit, that's more resolve to spend before going in to fight the crest eaters. And they fire again every time Buddy someone hits the button again after that. I thought you did great!

Re. Bone Cestus:
There is a boon in one of the scenarios that allow you to craft one, :
▫ Souvenir Cestus (Slotless Boon; Limited Use): Vabaimus is home to numerous crest-eaters, and you departed with
several of their horns as souvenirs. You can check the box that precedes this boon to use your Downtime to fashion an
austere bone cestus (Starfinder Alien Archive 31) at a cost of 120 credits. This cestus has an effective resale value of 60
credits. If you use this boon when you are level 8 or higher, you instead fashion a measured bone cestus as a cost of 1,100
credits and whose effective resale value is 550 credits

![]() |

I read the discussion post above before reading Gameplay, so was very confused. But now I understand.
@Rilynn: how much do you want to take? There's 2 whole, Large adult crest-eaters. Alien Archive, p 31 says: "A typical crest-eater is 14 feet from head to tail and is 6 feet tall at the shoulder, though this doesn’t count its elaborate protrusions. An average crest-eater weighs more than 1,000 pounds." There's enough to take as much as you want, maxing out your (and your allies') Encumbrances if you wish.

![]() |

There's enough to take as much as you want, maxing out your (and your allies') Encumbrances if you wish.
I can't speak for anyone else but why not load up? Rilynn can gift most of it to the Strix as an additional measure of goodwill. How will this wash out on the chronicle? Can we simply keep it if we want?

![]() |

I don't mind carrying it, but I am afraid that in the society play collecting bones will give us nothing. Unless there is something on the chronicle that says otherwise.
Buddy is willing to buy Bone Cestus and say that it si from those two.

![]() |

Of course Buddy touched the cloak. Just like he would have hit the big button, given the chance. :)
Agreed re: the bones. You could do as Buddy said and take "enough" to carve a bone cestus from, flavoring your actual purchase using credits (or that boon if you've played that scenario) as using the bones from these kills. But otherwise, no, harvesting parts has no lasting benefits beyond the end of the scenario in Society play.
FYI, we're almost done. I expect to finish this weekend.

![]() |

And you're done!
So, a peek behind the curtain. You were supposed to leave the cloak where it was, and take Ahusata's feather jar to Koyonn (as Hef did.)
The scenario says "...the party should be made aware that leaving the artifact in its location is the most respectful approach." But there's no way to do that, beyond just revealing it OOC.
The only difference is between whether you improve the attitude of only one or both of the Windspeakers. You get both if you leave it, but only Zaira if you bring it to them. But you'd already gotten Zaira to Helpful, and even Daiwin to Friendly, so it made no difference. Which is why I just let you play it out. At least with the Hellknight, I didn't have to worry about you stealing it and potentially failing the Secondary Success condition.
I'll get it reported and chronicles posted here in about an hour or so.

![]() |

Reported!
Chronicles are here. Please let me know if there's an issue. IAW the current Guide, you can roll your own Day Job and annotate it on the chronicle yourself.
I'm going to be running #2-20 Shades of Spite next. It's tier 7-10 and is part of the Datch saga. I'll probably post to open recruitment early next week, and start later next week. If you're interested, let me know and I'll give y'all first dibs on seats.
Thanks for the good game. You're all some of my favorite players. I love the RP that you bring and look forward to seeing you again.
