Jamila approaches and the protean bites her so hard that she almost looses consciousness!

But Jamila's will cannot be broken so easily!! She expertly untangles from the protean's grip and slashes with her blade so hard across the snake-creature's head that it is almost cut off!

The protean is clearly afraid now and shouts.

The Rift Spinner then concentrates and clearly believes that it is hopeless to stay and fight! It attempts to flee into the Maelstrom, by ripping a tiny hole into the vast expanses of the plane in its wake.

Suddenly, it vanishes!!

COMBAT OVER! CONCORDANCE VICTORIOUS!! BUT STILL IN INITIATIVE AS THE WYSPs are still chaotic and the maelstrom has to be closed.

Again, the Maelstrom’s influence produces a mutating effect that warps your very being!

The three chaotic wysps are flying around but the earth wysp that you calmed talks to you!

Restore order? Yes! Shut the rift! It's pretty big, but we can try. Might be better to do it from the other side though. If it closes and we're here, that's not good!

What...to...do now...? she asks as she catches her "breath"unsure if she breathes...lol. she moves to help free a wyrd.

What are the available actions with the wysps?


Sorry, the fire wysp was freed first. Now also water. Earth and air remain. Then you leave and close the gate from the other side. Freeing a wysp requires a PC to succeed at a DC 22 skill check as a standard action. The PCs may use Bluff, Diplomacy, Knowledge (planes), Intimidate, or Use Magic Device on this check.

i cant tell which wyrd is freed...would i have been able to move and try a skill check when fatigued?


No movement necessary. Just designate if you target the air or earth. :-)

Rhyol does a great job to align air and Octaris of course water!

The last one Ember can easily take care of.

The wyps fly back through the open portal to the ivory tower on the Plane of Air, and you follow.

As soon as the last of you is through, the roiling incursion of color slows and contracts upon itself to eventually form a vibrating sphere.

Although the disruption beyond its otherworldly borders has abated, the tenacious rift remains, and you can tell if not dealt with in its weakened state it may eventually grow once more.

The portal seems to have been diminished, but is still active and a potential danger. To try and close it for good, you'll need to find a way to either disrupt it and its connection to the Maelstrom further, or weaken the strength of the elemental air power around here.

The expected skill checks are definitely an option (Know Arcana, Planes, Spellcraft, UMD), but other ideas could certainly also assist.

Ember changes her performance to help the team focus on the task at hand and then tries to draw on her knowledge of the planes to assist in working out how to close the portal.

knowledge (planes) + good hope: 20 + 11 + 2 = 33 (taking 20 using Embers lore master once per day ability)

She will use inspire competence to aid her allies with any other skill checks needed where possible (I just realised she can’t use it on herself).

Ember, Rhyol and Octaris unleash their power to try and shift the planar energy back into place! You work to shape the magic into its altered form. Together, the lingering portal shudders mightily - then vanishes!

Tired from your ordeal, but confident the current danger is gone, you rest briefly before pulling out the sending mechanism and calling on the ship to pick you up.

A brief response comes back "Well. That was quick. Glad to see you made it. We'll be over soon. The currents are acting smooth as I've seen them. Your doing surely!"

Indeed, the journey back to Armun Kelisk is remarkably simple.

With the rift's closure, the disturbances among the air currents seems to have vanishes. By the time you reach the city, word appears to have already beaten you there, and while you walk through the streets to meet with Ashasar you find the suli already walking in the other direction, eager to meet you.

“I knew I could count on your team to handle this dangerous task. Congratulations on a job well done. Tell me: how did your mission go?”

Shortly after closing the rift Ember pulls out her notebook and starts scribbling away.

”How does this sound… once the cyclone had been dealt with we discovered the source of the problem we had been sent to investigate, a great rift into the Maelstrom itself! Our intrepid band bravely sallied forth, into the unknown beyond the rift in hope of finding a way to close it. We found ourselves in a dangerous and fantastical landscape of flying islands, where we met some poor trapped wysps who had been ensorcelled buy the maelstroms chaotic power. As we tried to free them we were attacked by a great monster, some strange tentacled dragon thing. It was no match for our heroes, after an epic battle the beast fled from us and we were free to rescue our wysp friends and close the rift once we had returned back to the other side…”

“I’ve got it all written down in my book and in my head. If your happy to take us all out for more of that bubble-halo pie, I’ll be happy to give you the full rendition.” she continues with a grin.

Okay, it's time to fly back and confirm that the abnormal wind patterns have subsided. Flying should be a lot smoother now...


He listens carefully and asks a ton of questions.

A lost air lord? Ashasar says, curious.

As he listens to your story, the suli's eyes widen.

"Ranginori...there is a name I have not heard in a long time. He was one the of Elemental Lords of Air, though of course long since sealed away. Forever, we had thought. But if this rift was centered on that tower, and the tower connected to him...I cannot believe that place being the focal point of this is mere coincidence."

He shakes his head. "But that is something we will need to look into tomorrow. For now, please rest in the city. I have little doubt we will look to call on you again, but part of life is enjoying the victories as they come. And yours was quite the victory."
