Hope to see you back soon, too, Andochtuir. Good luck on your deadline!

Hirabashi Yuto |

Ah, fair enough. Riftun relaying the aura information is not enough for Andy to have his own guess, then? The only information detect magic gives you is the auras which Riftun could just tell the others.
You actually need detect magic or the identify spell to discern the specific capabilities of an item, spellcraft is not enough by itself.
Only exception are scrolls, which can also be deciphered with spellcraft by reading them, and potions which can alternatively be identified with perception.
Alchemist can also use Craft (alchemy) to identify potions, but I think it is the only exception they have to the general rules.

Andochtuir |

Yeah, it just doesn't make much logical sense to me personally. If the only information I can gleam from a magical item through detect magic is the aura and strength of the aura, why can I not make the spellcraft check if that exact knowledge can be told to me by someone else?
It is like being handed a bunch of facts and asked to draw a conclusion based on them. Why am I disqualified from being able to interpret them if I didn't get the facts myself?
That said though I am fine with not being able to do it; I'll just retrain the skill away for something else when I can.

Aganhei GM |

I think that the idea is that you need both the knowledge and the ability to observe whatever it is that indicates the magic powers of an item in order to identify it. Like, detect magic gives that extra information more than auras, but only someone with Spellcraft is able to look for and identify them?
I dunno, I'm kind of grasping at straws there.

Aganhei GM |

I'm going to give everyone a chance to chime in before responding this time. I don't want to drown everyone else out by posting too rapidly.

Sorry about the delay on my posts - it's been a weird weekend, and I forgot that there was a holiday on Friday. I will try to get a post up today, but can't promise it.

Hirabashi Yuto |

My reasoning to go upstairs first is we know the cache is there and we know it only extends just so much. Going downstairs, the basements can extend to who knows what.
But to have us moving forward, I am fine with going down first.

Aganhei GM |

I just didn't want people splitting up, because that would be exceptionally dangerous.

Hirabashi Yuto |

I am thinking, if we have any charm or similar magic, this is the kind of beast that trick might pull off. I am intrigued by whom this is, hope we are not attacking one of the Ulfen we are trying to rescue.

Should have mentioned earlier but I'm at Phoenix Fan Fusion this weekend and posting will resume on Monday!
If there is any artist there you'd recommend I check out/support please let me know as I think we only covered a third of the vendor hall the first day xD
See yall on Monday~

By the by, does anyone know whether lead blades affects natural weapons? It just says "melee," which leads me to think "no," but I'm not sure.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Natural attacks are generally considered weapons and melee attacks, but I have not found anywhere to be mentioned as a melee weapon.
The natural attacks entry in combat says they are done with "natural weapons", and also has this sentence "You can make attacks with natural weapons in combination with attacks made with a melee weapon and unarmed strikes, so long as a different limb is used for each attack." which seems to imply they are a different thing.
But certainly I have not found anywhere that says "natural weapons are not considered melee weapons", so I would understand it being ruled either way.
The lead blades probably refers here to "melee weapon" in the group of manufactured weapons as opposed to ranged weapons which require gravity bow instead, but I infer this only from context, cannot tell if it is just intention or raw rules.

Riftun |

Had a meeting today on top of work so I dont have time to post.
Please feel free to bot me.

Andochtuir |

Riftun, if you don't mind, I assumed a CA on Andy in the last attack. I think you can give it to both Torra and Andy in one round if you wish since you can trade standard actions for movement actions.

Andochtuir |

@The party, i think it's very likey yuto is going to die to that poison. Dc 22 fortsave req 2 saves and 1d3 con damage per round for x rounds while he is on 8/18? Hp. I think losing 5 con loses him 15 max hp, not 25, but still.rough. Perhaps this is the time to pull out the akashic emblem and have it cast Heal on Yuto? I can heal him but the condamage will eventually get his max hp too low.
Oh and YIKES that sneak attack was rough!
Also, as a side note, we were walking into a known fortress of assassins and i know we talked about buying antivenoms and antitoxins beforehand. But i can't find that discussion... we *did* buy those obvious items, right...?

Aganhei GM |

After double-checking the max HP thing, you're right. It does only take it down by 15, I think, so he's at 18 hp.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Please tell me those tengus are evil. I believe that would prevent the first sneak attack from hitting (thanks to Harvengal protection from evil aura!).
Also the -5 hp loss is for each 2 points of Con damage, thus -5 or -10 depending on whether the tengus are evil or not.
So Yuto is f@$$ed up, but maybe not dead yet.
And yes, Yuto has an antitoxin, but in his current position trying to drink it is a bad solution I think.
If Andochtuir is fine to be in the front for a bit, he can fall back for a couple of turns to safely drink it.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Also, do you want the poison save checks to be the first ones in my posts or the last ones?

Aganhei GM |

I'll do the poison checks, just for consistency's sake. And yes, they are evil, so you're right that the first one misses!
Yeesh, lots of juggling there.
So he's actually at 29/44 hp, with only 2 points of constitution damage. Sorry for the confusion.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Thank goodness! No worries, this kind of retcons happens constantly in all campaigns, the higher the level the more flying conditions :)

Hirabashi Yuto |

GM Aganhei, if it makes a difference on the poison save, Yuto will use the once per day +4 from from Honor in all things to reach the DC 20.
If the poison check is less than 16, he will instead use his 3rd daily resolve point to use resolute for a Fort reroll.

Sounds good to me, Yuto. I'll make sure to keep that in mind. (It's a good idea, because Con damage is apparently brutal.)

Aganhei GM |

I don't think I've ever used a poison with Con damage before - it is insane, especially since it's tied to Fortitude saves.

Hirabashi Yuto |

If any of you have nothing better to do this round, Yuto really could enjoy some heal skill check to treat poison.

Aganhei GM |

I'll bot Andochtuir if he doesn't post within the next few hours.

Torra Voliokerdam |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I am off camping next week. I'll do my best to keep posting, but I won't have access to HeroLab and its handy-dandy stats, so please bot Torra if I'm slowing things down.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Stopping there by Riftun in case he can aid with the poison, even if only with a treat poison check like previous round.

Aganhei GM |

I'll bot Riftun later today if Rackal doesn't post for him, sorry for the delay everyone.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Gosh! A save at last! The poison nightmare seems to be coming to an end :D

Aganhei GM |

Yes, you're both free! Probably. Until another one pops up. xD

Aganhei GM |

To answer Andochtuir's questions before I get my mind together to write up an actual post: The red-lined tengu isn't quite downed, but he is on his last legs.
The other one was lurking invisibly on the far side of the stairs, and was thus much closer to the southern windows than the northern ones.

Aganhei GM |

Retreat may be a good plan at times. If Yuto's friends retreat, I'll allow him to do the same, since he doesn't have to die for his code in that context (though he shouldn't be the first to run).

Aganhei GM |

I'll try to remember to bot Andochtuir if he hasn't posted by later today.

Andochtuir |

I'll try to post later tonight.

Aganhei GM |

Okay, sorry I've been lax. I'll move us forwards later today.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Does receiving a healing spell count as receiving medical attention for removing the blinded condition Aganhei?

Andochtuir |

For reference, the healer's hands/incredible healer combo counts as both magical healing (positive energy) and getting Treat Deadly Wounds.

Aganhei GM |

Does receiving a healing spell count as receiving medical attention for removing the blinded condition Aganhei?
Yep! It's either a Heal check or any sort of magical healing.

Aganhei GM |

I'll give Riftun another while to post, but I'm beginning to suspect his player might be otherwise occupied.

Hirabashi Yuto |

I agree, he has not updated his GM campaign for a couple of weeks now, it is not usual of him and not looking good...
Let's hope he just went on summer holidays and found out too late he is too busy having fun to find time for a post in the forums :)

Aganhei GM |

Yeah, I hope Rackal's alright, but I haven't heard from her in awhile.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Torra said to be on holidays for the week, so perhaps we should bot her. Or maybe wait for the weekend, don't know. Another week without news from Riftun... does anyone have an email or something to try ping him, just for the peace of mind that he is ok?

Aganhei GM |

I don't have an email for Riftun, I'm afraid.
I'll try botting Torra soon, but I can't promise it'll be before Sunday.

Aganhei GM |

Sorry I didn't post yesterday. There was a tornado watch and a variety of flood warnings/watches, so I was very much on edge much of the day.
I'll get a post together soon.

Aganhei GM |

I know Torra's a bit busy, and I believe that Andochtuir is as well, but I don't feel comfortable botting three players in a combat. If you think I should, I shall, but it's not something I'd like to set a precedent for.

Hirabashi Yuto |

Good burst Torra!
I say we give one more day for Andochtuir to catch up :)
But the campaign is starting to suffer due to pace.
