Richard Wells IV |
Richard decides to use the power of Sarenrae to assist with the destruction of these skeletons by channeling positive energy to damage them.
Channel positive energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Afterwards he takes a 5 ft step back to remove the possibility of taking fire damage.
Nazard |
I don’t see a post from Ty, but he was online and moved himself on the map, so I’m guessing a withdrawal.
Braxton casts another spell, this one on his sword.
Richard took 1d6 ⇒ 4 fire at the start of his turn.
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + (1) = 7 damage on Edward
Will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17Blue
Will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31Red
Will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24Orange
Having been damaged already by Conri’s magic missile, the orange skeleton explodes.
Round 5 Edward and Conri are up. The skeletons are very shaky now, but so is Edward.
Ty Purgest |
Ty's resulting swear from taking a blast of shrine fire to the face would definitely raise a few eyebrows if they were back in the church to Iomedae. Desperate and angry, he darts forward and stabs at the nearest skeleton. Target is purple.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 2 = 29
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 = 26
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Crit damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Ty Purgest |
I don’t see a post from Ty, but he was online and moved himself on the map, so I’m guessing a withdrawal.
Nope, I was thinking about it, but I was just shy of getting through that door with a move action, so I couldn't close it, which was my goal. But I got interrupted before I could revert the map marker.
Ty Purgest |
Oops. That’s what I get for impatience. I’ll say you delayed until after Richard.
No worries. Gotta keep the posts rolling.
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Ty's curse is easier on the eyebrows this time.
Edward Hastings III |
Edward remains steadfast as he tries to take down the last skeleton.
Absorb blow once again; Attack red. By the way, I did not realize there was a "red" skeleton. My smite is actually toward the "red" super undead guy. Braxton I believe.

Conri Cailean |
Using Advance, everyone can take a move action or a 5 ft, which those don't provoke AoO's. Edward do you have some lay on hands you can use to avoid death?
"Back up big guy I don't wanna see you die."
Then Conri is going to delay to cast Magic Missile until Edward is out of range of the explosin.
delayed magic missile against the red one: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Nazard |
My reading of Advance seems to differ from yours. I read it that you and your allies can take the move action (which doesn’t have to be a move) or 5-ft step on your swift action. I don’t see anything to say that moving wouldn’t provoke an AoO, except of course, the 5-ft step. So in this particular example, Richard could take a move To “advance” to the rear no problem, and one of Ty, Edward, and Conri (were you always there or did you just move yourself closer?) would provoke if they made a full move (probably worth the risk given what’s coming for you). Since that happens on your turn, you don’t need to delay, and the skeleton goes bye bye.
I would describe it as Conri uses his ability to shout, ”Get out of there!” and his field presence is such that you automatically obey the tactic, subconsciously moving away from the skeleton with supernatural grace.
That just leaves the decision on facing Braxton now or trying to get away (please run).
Edward Hastings III |
Torn between fighting and retreating, "Dismiss the spell, Conri! Quickly, my good man!" He then looks to the rogue, "Ty! We are retreating!" Waiting for Ty to move out, Edward then himself reluctantly retreats to the stairs.
Double move to the stairs and down.
Nazard |
You can all make it to the stairs, Edward squeezing through doors, Ty just squeaking by Braxton. He hisses in rage as he sees you fleeing before him, but weighed down by his heavy armour, he can’t stop you or get to you. From the room with the murals, he screams in rage, hurling vile insults and obscenities against Iomedae the so-called Goddess of courage and her cowardly representative.
But he doesn’t enter the stairwell.
How far down do you go and where?
Ty Purgest |
As they hustle down the stairs, Ty pipes up. "Hey look! He's not following us! You know, I think there was a crap load of stuff in that room I ran through to come up from behind. I bet this tower is full of stuff we can use against him. His burning skeletons weren't so tough. I bet we could get more things from this tower and come back to him stronger than we--Hey, who's that?"
Ty has heard the voices from outside, and starts creep carefully forward and see if he can tell who they are without being seen.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Richard Wells IV |
Once everyone is down the stairs, Richard will channel positive energy to heal the party.
channel: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Nazard |
Ty cracks open the stairwell door and doesn’t see anyone. The voices are coming from the northeast doorway, so he peers around that corner. The storeroom looks to be a bit more looted than when you left it, and also a bit more occupied. Two half-IRC’s, whom you recognize from the bandit ambush, are using the doorframe for cover, while one fires arrows, looted from this room, and the other hurls insults. You hear a twang of bowstring from the wizard’s study as well.
”Come out, you little goblin, and fight us.”
”Perhaps a bit later, when you’ve run out of arrows,” another voice, slightly familiar, calls back. ”Though your aim is so terrible, I mightn’t bother waiting. A little more afield and you might be the first bowmen to ever shoot yourselves with a longbow!”
Ty Purgest |
Perception, again: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
"HEY, SIR ROLLINS! IS THAT YOU?! YOU NEED ME TO GET THE GUYS AND GIVE YOU A HAND?"
As he talks, Ty sheathes his daggers and gets out his bow and an arrow.
"WE WIPED THE FLOOR WITH MOST OF THESE GUYS YESTERDAY. A FEW MORE WON'T BE A BIG DEAL."
Intimidate: 1d2 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Nazard |
Oops, I forgot to check that auto-correct didn’t screw stuff up. It’s Sir Rollynd, not Rollins.
Well with the element of surprise well and truly shot, the two half-orcs turn. The one with the bow prepares to target Ty instead.
Initiative:
Conri: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Edward: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Richard: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Ty: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Sir Rollynd: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Enemies: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Round 1 Ty, Sir Rollynd, Enemies, everybody else
Edward Hastings III |
Any chance I can lay on hands before all this starts? If so... Lay on Hands: 1d6 ⇒ 3 But if not, then, no worries. We got this. Says the guy who thought they had the previous battle. :P
Hp's 10(or 13 depending)/26
Ty Purgest |
Shoot, Nazard said "outside the stairwell," but I processed it as "outside the tower." Sorry for the mix-up, everyone. Ty wouldn't have drawn his bow if the two half-orcs were inside the tower; he would have stuck with his daggers.
Ty ducks back inside the doorway and presses himself against the wall so that an enemy passing through the door won't be able to see him until the last possible moment.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Readied action to attack if one of the half-orcs pass through the doorway. Otherwise, I'm happy to go after Edward or Richard heads into melee first.
Nazard |
”Indeed, they are very mop-like, are they not?” Sir Rollynd shoots back. He gets up from behind the debris, happy for the distraction. He’s slow though, being a halfling in full plate walking over difficult terrain.
Arrow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Arrow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Two archers in the other room fire at the halfling, but even with the better equipment, cone nowhere near hitting the halfling.
The two half-orcs draw swords and take up refuge behind some crates.
Everybody is up!
Richard Wells IV |
The health of Edward concerns Richard who decides to cast a healing spell upon him using his mythic powers to ensure its strength.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Richard uses a point of mythic power to use the Divine Surge - Recalled Blessing - which rolls twice taking the higher result. Edward is healed for 7 points.
Edward Hastings III |
Cool. Thanks!
Feeling many of his wounds heal, he nods to Richard. "Thank you, my good man! Now let's see if we can fare a bit better against these brigands," he says as he moves in and attacks.
Move 30'; Attack the orc
Longsword w/PA: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

As he misses horribly, he smiles. "Apparently not."
Man I can't hit anything anymore.

Ty Purgest |
Not wanting to expose himself to the second orc, Ty runs up to Richard's right side and jams his dagger into the half-orc's stomach.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Surprise Strike: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 27
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Something to think about, Edward: Because of where you positioned your marker, for Ty to set up a flank, he'd have to expose his squishy backside to the other half-orc. Until Ty starts gaining other ways to get enemies flat-footed, flanking is the most reliable way for Ty to apply sneak attack damage, which does more damage than his base dagger. It didn't matter this round, however, because Ty missed with his regular attack.
Conri Cailean |
Following the others and aiming his wand at the half orc.
magic missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Nazard |
I should point out, they are both half orcs. The basic brigand is the guy you’re all attacking; Scarface (actually Scarblade but I don’t think you know that yet) is the guy in the corner.
Brigands
HP: 18 (This guy is now down to 8)
AC: 16/11/15
F/R/W: +3/+1/-1
Scar Blade:
???????
Ty and Conri do some serious damage to the half-orc who keeps looking for aid from his boss. Scarface, however, shoves his way through the crates to come at Conri. He’s just not fast enough to get an attack in with his wicked-looking great axe (sorry not a sword), which is probably good.
The other guy swings with his sword at Ty.
Gotta finish the update later...
Richard Wells IV |
Richard draws his scimitar and moves to engage Scarface.
Scimitar attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 most likely a miss.
Ty Purgest |
Attack 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Ty easily dodges the half-orc's wild swing with a cheeful, "Nice try!", and responds with two wild strikes of his own. One attack misses, but it sets up the other attack to make a nasty slice along the half-orc's side.
Edward Hastings III |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Yeah I get flanking is best but there was no way I could set that up properly. It would've required a double move and plus, there are too many obstacles in the way for me to get behind him. It looks like that's a table he's standing next to. Otherwise I would have absolutely tried to set up a flank for you for sure.
Edward continues the attack...
Longsword w/PA: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Conri, seeing this massive half-orc with his massive great axe descending upon him, is very worried. He backs up 5 feet, holding his hands out, and wishing he could hide. Mist pours from his outstretched hands, and quickly fills the room, providing concealment (20% miss chance) within 5 feet, and total concealment beyond that.
Tick off another mythic point for Conri as he casts obscuring mist.
Scar Blade swings his axe at Richard, while his flunkie stabs through the mist at Ty. Scar Blade's wild swing is completely foiled by the mist.
Attak on Richard: 1d100 ⇒ 7
Attak on Ty: 1d100 ⇒ 100

So too is the attack on Ty.
You hear arrows continue to fly at Sir Rollynd, but have no way of knowing if they hit.

Richard Wells IV |
Attack on Scarface: 1d100 ⇒ 20
Richard was not expecting the fog and his attack on Scarface went terribly wide.

Ty lets out a surprised "Whoo!" when the half-orc's blade comes out of the mist unexpectedly, even though it wasn't that close to striking him. But then he uses the weapon to home in the orc's location with his daggers.

Sorry all, just trying to figure out how to keep the guy who does 1d12+12 damage from splitting the party wizard into kindling.
There’s no miss chance for magic missile. At only 5-feet away, you can sort of see Scarface, which is enough. The tiny magic dart, however, doesn’t even seem to faze the grizzled warrior at all, as he brings his axe down on Richard, the enormous blade digging in with a sickening crunch.

There’s a sickening crunch and a spray of blood adds to the magical mist as Ty catches the blade full in the stomach. His daggers drop from numb fingers and his body soon follows. Given your positions in the mist, while you can hear his body hit the floor, you can’t actually see it happen.
Ty is at -2, but he’s mythic, so he’s automatically stable.
Everybody’s up (except Ty...he’s down—bah dum tsss)
Richard Wells IV |
Richard moves towards Ty, staying out of Scarface's reach. Unable to get to Ty and heal him this turn, he attempts to send a Fire bolt at Scarface. Planning on healing Ty next turn

Edward Hastings III |
"No!" Edward yells as he swings hard at the half-orc, hoping to strike true.
1d100 ⇒ 3
And as usual, his swing is wide of the mark.
Ugh. Man this gets old. Here's hoping one of you can kill this guy because I can't. The way this guy does damage and how easy it is to hit us, I've got about 1 round left. Maybe 2 depending. Burn magic missiles and firebolts galore, people. That's the only thing that's going to hit. We just lost our main damage guy and that's bad.
Aside: I actually had my attack roll up but forgot the percentile dice. Obviously, with that pathetic roll, the attack roll was not necessary. Doesn't really matter though, it was a 2. So even with an above 20% it would have proven fruitless. So if you think about it, I missed TWICE! In one round! And I only attacked once! So terrible.
