Zhalet fails to identify the headband's magical properties. She can try again the next day.
Mahz identifies the seal as that of the Keleshite sultan who governed Osirion at the time of the Plague ofMadness, 2 , 215 years ago. Each of the 20 ingots found is worth 25 gp.
Where to now? 4 rooms left to explore on the 2nd floor: NE, E, SE, and S, without mentioning most of the 1st floor and the outside grounds.
Zhalet Soroush
Zhalet turns around to the others and holds up the, honestly rather creepy looking, skull thing for them to see.
"Got it! This is what the aura in the nest is coming from. Don't know what it is though."
No strong opinions on where to next.
Mahzuzi al-Wati
Mahzuzi claps. "Great great! Good job, Zhalet! We done here? Yes? Good. Maybe we should see what else is up here, yes? Other rooms?"
Mahzuzi al-Wati
I'm fine with just heading to the next room. Is that NE?
Death-Lok
Thank you.
Dust blankets this room. The walls, once brightly painted to depict life in ancient Wati, are now faded. A smaller room or alcove takes up the northeast section of the room; it was once closed off by a wooden door that since has rotted away, leaving only its hinges in the door frame. A strong, cloying odor of decay pervades the room.
In the corner of the room against the wall, some 20' away, you see two blackened, bat-winged fiend’s heads! Tentacles dangle from their chins and scalps, and their fanged mouth hang agape.
Knowledge Planes is appropriate skill - let me know if you want to know special defenses, special abilities, ac, etc.

"Yuck! Nasty things!" !Kutlwisi spurts as he attacks one.
Zhalet Soroush
Zhalet is baffled by the winged, tentacled floating heads aside from knowing for sure they're nasty. That's obvious.
She takes a dancelike stance and readies herself in case they advance. Zhalet also reaches out to touch Thyste, asking Sarenrae to give the woman Guidance in the trial before them.
Move action to begin Battle Dance
K Planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
So map or no map?
Mahzuzi al-Wati
Mahzuzi stares at the creatures, trying to place them. Looking for special defenses.
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Then he'll draw a potion from his pouch and drink it. He gets reduce person for 1 minute. Now he's tiny!

The creature is a vargouille, which is larger than a human head, typically between 12 and 20 inches high with a 15- to 35-inch wing span. Vargouilles are not natives of the Material Plane but can often be found there nevertheless, occupying graveyards, ancient battlefields, or anywhere one can find remnants of death and decay. These hideous monsters come from the fiendish outer planes, where they flop and flap through strange and haunted skies in constant search of fresh souls to torment. In these nightmare realms, vargouilles play a role similar to that of a raven or vulture, although they augment these roles with a malevolent delight in causing pain and anguish that no scavenger bird could ever hope to match. Vargouilles attack by swooping in on their opponents, shrieking them into paralysis, and then biting them with rows of razor-sharp teeth. When multiple vargouilles take up a common cause and fight as allies, they overwhelm their victim with bites and shrieks, tearing it to shreds.
Game terms: They have no special defenses but you know that their shriek causes paralysis and their bite is poisonous.
Thyste Hop-Lightly
Cool!
Thyste, hearing about their poisonous bite, wades in and tries to lance one in the back, keeping her oplon raised.

"Vargoyles! Yes, yes, very nasty, poison bite, scream paralyzes! Like to swoop! This house just full of ugly surprises!"
Death-Lok
Round 1: Vargouilles
As Mahz predicted, the vargouilles start combat with a shriek to paralyze the party! The Mwangi and the aasimar gnome feel their bodies lock up at the sounds of the horrendous shriek!
Party Fort saves vs. DC 12:
Kut: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 - paralyzed
Mahz: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 - paralyzed
Thyste: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Zhalet: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Duration: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7 rounds.
The second vargouille also shrieks, trying to leave the party helpless, but the gladiator and the bard/cleric resist! You are both immune to both shrieks now for 24 hours.
Party Fort saves vs. DC 12:
Thyste: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Zhalet: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
T&Z are up. The red one is wounded; the yellow one is fresh (see map).
Zhalet Soroush
Hm, tight space there. Can Zhalet get within melee range of either of them? Maybe at the corner beside Thyste for the red one?
Zhalet Soroush
1 person marked this as a favorite.
...guys....... ;n;[/ooc]
Oh I know how you feel Thyste. I've had weeks go by (literally) without rolling above a 10. The dice roller for the boards is just the worst.
Zhalet Soroush
Zhalet tries to guide a scimitar stroke through the narrow gap between Thyste and the wall. She fails.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Well with an effective -1 penalty on the attack I doubt this was going anywhere anyway, almost regardless of roll.
