<--- groans @ bad puns

To fit his masquerade, Richard would probably keep the standard ring as part of his professional persona. As far as his typical musical inclinations, I see him leaning toward Sinatra. I don't think he'd be particularly interested in most music from the 60s onward, but he can croon with the best of them if you managed to talk him into karaoke... especially if he turned on the mojo and used the Awe discipline as part of the performance.

With a very private number that would only be circulated amongst the 'in' crowd of Pendros, I could see him using dancing in the dark for a ringtune.

I wanna pull this one apart:

Thomas McDougal wrote:
Hah. If I've got Thomas figured out he's got that phone on vibrate.

I was afraid I had not worded that correctly. It's called Ringback Music, and thankfully, there's a wiki article related to it, but, it wouldn't matter if Thomas had it on vibrate. But, good to know anyways.

Thomas McDougal wrote:
I haven't read the gameplay thread, kinda waiting until I have a chance to, but I realized that if Thomas has done errands and such for people he may not know much about what he is, but he's met some other vampires. Like, he probably knew who George was. He may have hoped he wasn't pushing in in his territory, but had some idea that there are boundaries. Just musing.

Ah, but for your background to have worked, the only work you could have done before was to show up and have blood taken from you; we discussed this before. :)

Thomas McDougal wrote:
oh, and perhaps we create a new recruitment thread. the only season I suggest, is that when someone sees one with a bunch of posts like ours, the may not bother looking into it.

I can do that? My only wondering on that (if I can do it) is, won't people notice that the title is the same?

I don't think we need a new recruitment thread. This is very much a niche game, we use a separate rules system from most of the games here and the folks that are looking for a vampire game might not be interested in the sci-fi themes.

Someone who's interested in this sort of game will notice the recruitment thread sooner or later and I don't think the bumps will scare them off.

If you do decide to make a new thread, I think you can do it from the 'Edit this Campaign' link at the top right of the campaign overview page. It will give you an interface that will let you de-link the current thread and list a new one.

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

Ah ha. I might wish to make a new one to clean up the first entry, but for now, I won't.

Speaking of using different rules systems...

I've never been a fan of either version of the Werewolf game, and have been trying to create my own using White Wolf's hacks, and I'm applying it to Pendros. I don't think you guys should have to worry about it, except, Richard, there are no longer any Iron Master werewolves, just werewolves. I like the idea of the Pure being werewolves who believe they were destined to rule humanity, and Queen Sasha took them down in 2009, but otherwise, since your characters wouldn't know anything about werewolves anyways, forget what you know about that setting. Unless you both protest heavily! Being my only two players, I do believe you could make demands of the game, and I'd be forced to comply.

I'm fine with it, just let me know what would be a suitable group of werewolves to use as a contact. Is there more than one pack in Pendros?

Nice conversation for Sam! I got a sense of her personality along with a few tidbits. I didn't have anything else of interest for Richard to do... he'll get a bit of sleep, wake up around 6PM, spend some time making himself presentable, then proceed to the 7:30 dinner meeting. I'll put an IC post about answering Thomas's call when I get some time.

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

There probably are 4-7 werewolves to a pack, so, there are probably 5 packs, and a few stragglers. I've made them more traditional Werewolves though, creatures of their Vices and unable to control themselves while their moon phase is out, so dealing with these werewolves will be harder. I haven't detailed them quite yet, but I'd say there is one pack that loves to party at the night clubs, one that works in the business sector, and one that is located in the wilds. Considering his ties, I'd say he knows the business Werewolves.

Hmm...

*Laughs*

Oh, I just had a great thought!

Zack's legal firm! I'll call it Wolfe, Hawkins & Associates!

*Starts thinking*

Yeah, and they handle Supernatural cases, and Zack is their front man, and they keep him out of the loop, handing him cases for Supernatural clients without supernatural cases! That is how Richard not only can know him, but also keep him on, and why Zack suspects something, but for plausible deniability, doesn't ask!

How's that sound?

That sounds interesting, it should work just fine for Zack.

So, werewolves aren't going to feature as much of a cursed with awesome angle as the apocalypse/forsaken versions? Can't wait to meet one...

BTW, it's all your fault that the Frank Sinatra song is stuck in my head now...

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

Exactly. I was never a fan of the 'Spirit Police' that werewolves IN BOTH VERSIONS seemed to be. I was such a fan of Vampire: The Requiem because it divorced the Metaplot from the story. I hated that you were embraced and then told that the Judeo Christian was the right religion, and that there were Vampires just walking around since the Crusades (or even older) and that they were 'perfectly fine'. Werewolf the Apocalypse was even more guilty of the metaplot being shoved down your throat, and then it turned out that they were protecting the world? So, when I purchased Werewolf: The Forsaken, I was so excited to get traditional werewol...oh. Other than the Apocalypse no longer being an imminent threat, well, you know the old saying about a pig in a dress...

No no no. I love the story of a horrible nightmare that is a 'werewolf you' in Being Human. There are a fewother forms of media that have this story as well, but I think BeingHhuman captures the true horror of it the best (at least season one of the BBC version). I still enjoy, however, the ability to benefit from your curse, but in my game, Werewolves suffer from two things:

-The night before, during, and after your moon phase, you go into a non-stop death rage.
-You are tied to three vices, one primary and two secondary, and you must either embrace them or struggle against them daily.

So in both Body and in Spirit, you are a monster. That isn't to say being a werewolf isn't without its boons (the monster grants you gifts, and your vices grant you Vestments) but the clash of wills between the man and the monster is always there.

Heh. I kinda wanna run a werewolf game now. I think I'd call it Werewolf: The Cursed.

Hmmm...would you guys want to play in such a game?

I'd be interested, but I have my hands full with my current PbPs... 6 active games at the moment.

Male

Yeehaw, rough weekend. I've been trying to keep up while working/writing/hosting a group of college friends.

People still use ringbacks? ;)

The reason I was thinking a new recruitment thread is due to the high post count. I dont know about you guys, but when I was looking for new games, I didnt even bother with the high reply ones, assuming it was people working out characters.

Why are werewolves tied to the three vices? Why the death rage? I dunno, I like the being human version as well (bring back george and nina). But there, its a curse but it doesnt fundamentally change who you are. In the WoD versions, from a quick google, it seems like something you're born with, so I guess it could tie into your personality, hence the vices (or tendencies or whatever). Maybe instead of a blood rage, its just increased instincts (like being human) that you struggle against).

I'd be interested, I guess. I was in a few more PbP games, which seem to have died.

Thomas post coming up after I edit this paper.

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

I felt it was relevant

I wasn't familiar with Being Human, but I'll definitely look it up.

If your werewolves are subject to an irresistible non-stop death rage, why isn't the existence of werewolves common knowledge? It would be difficult for someone's arrangements to work perfectly, every month...

The post from michael seemed a little disjointed,

Quote:
"I think you should leave,"

did it end with the proprietor asking them to remove the suits and leave?

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

It is a little disjointed; I was posting and falling asleep at the same time. The shopkeeper was kicking them out after Michael failed at lying; he planned on 'borrowing' the suits. I realize now that I didn't place any ranks in Resources, so I was going to have him double talk the guy. However, I also notice that Michael isn't very good at that either.
-----------
You make a very good point. I think the Lunacy would account for it, but after cameras are everywhere, they'd have already been spotted.

Hmm...

If you could make a role, and if spending Essence would help you resist it?

That would probably work, just make it similar to the vampire's roll to frenzy with appropriate modifiers to fit the feel you're aiming for.

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

If you guys cared to be playing this game twice over, I made the exact same game over at ENworld. I'm starting to see why this game may not be getting recruits, after answering PMs there. Seems that a lot of people think the game is about the end of the world, which it ain't.

So I'd like to, then, not just make a new recruitment thread, make whole new threads for, well, everything (here on Paizo). Again, because of Paizo's continued refusal to allow edits. The game wouldn't end, I'd just transfer it over to the new thread.

One venue is enough for me, although I did have an idea for a gangrel surfer vamp who I'd like to run at some point...

Have you tried contacting Paizo's customer service? They might be able to edit things to your satisfaction and move things where you want them. If we do need to move things to a new thread that's fine too, just post the link here and hopefully everything will go seamlessly.

I'd consider it. I seem to be losing pbp's like a champ. As long as you dont mind holding my hand a bit more. ;) Wouldnt be the same char though.

I've seen some recruitment threads for campaigns that have restarted in entirely new threads. I've also heard some decent things about paizo's service, so... This is entirely unhelpful, lol, but whatever you think will work best. I enjoy the idea of this game, and while I may not push it forward as much as you two, I'm still stoked to continue it.

Richard:
Well, paint me as an ass (donkey). You just mentioned not being able to play in a Werewolf game, and here I am asking yet again! *Chuckles* I'm glad you aren't upset.

If you gents don't mind then, I'll be placing up a new thread.

Richard, I love Paizo's products, and their customer service! However, when it comes to their forums...actually, my problems continue to shrink. The new PM system is fantastic, and the lack of one was one of my biggest problems. I hope that they soon slay the Paizo forum monster, add formatting buttons, and allow edits.

When I wrote that, I figured I'd come up with a way to justify it in-character later. I've tried really hard, but I just can't figure an IC way for Richard to spring two unannounced guests on Zach for a meeting like this. It would be bad manners and a rather significant social gaffe to try... I'd like to amend the part quoted above. I think that Richard would ask Michael and Thomas to meet up with Natasha in the park and wait for him there. We can RP this as an abrupt change of heart on Richard's part, if you'd rather.

I'm down for the retcon if Volty is.

Sounds groovy to me. We need to do something with Natasha's departure anywho.

Heh. I've been waiting to do something like that...

Zack: Act like an ass?!
---------
Me: *Ahem* Anyways, now I've gotta think about how to respond...
------------------------------
Thomas
I had written Michael's question in such a way as to let you pull me with you. If you allow Michael make the decisions, I feel like I will be railroading you; are you comfortable with that?

I'm figuring out how to give you bread crumbs through him instead of leading you by the nose.

Yeah, not sure where to lead it. I'm... inexperienced in games where there isnt a defined plot or obvious connections. Gimme a minute to think.

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

Oh, there is a plot, just not a plot train. The Natasha thing isn't part of the plot, which means it is actually really difficult for me to figure out what happened to her, since her player just dropped.

At this point, I'd say that Michael gets a vision showing her dead. From there, you could track down her killers if you'd like.

@Volty: Yeah, sandbox games require a different sort of approach. I usually try to enter this sort of game with a character that has strong, defined goals and let the rest of the campaign unfold around that character trying to achieve those goals and the interactions it generates. What does Thomas want out of life? Has he considered what he wants to be doing in 10 or 20 or 100 years?
If he's big on the Carthian idealism, you could have him get involved in helping the downtrodden and hopeless or fighting corporate influence; that's bound to bring you into conflict with powerful people and lead the story to interesting places. I hear Pendros has a problem with human trafficking...

@G85: In my defense, Zack's comment really sent Richard's spidy-sense tingling. No dots in empathy + a powerful sense of survival means he does what he can to get out of there, and that seemed the most appropriate route considering that he didn't know who was watching or what the issue is. Richard uses people, and right now the maitre d' is a tool. If the guy plays along, Richard will reward him. Otherwise he'll find some other justification to leave the scene, but absent some strong signals from Zack he's not going ahead with the meeting as he had planned it.

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

Oh, I wasn't asking for you to defend yourself! :) His actions make perfect sense. I just didn't expect *BOOM* from Richard.

@Thomas, not sure if you remembered that bit, but the original plan was to meet at the fountain. If she had just become incommunicado then she might have been planning on meeting us there. Richard would certainly expect to find Thomas there when he arrives...

Shit that post took forever.

Male , purebred asskicker

I added a little of the Yui and Zoey stuff to Saki's Background.

Male , purebred asskicker

Might want to send Richard a message that the queen/sheriff has sent him some muscle, unless Oroku is going to be solo for a while.

Quote:
Torpedo hasn't made it into your lexicon reference yet...

Just a day after writing that I stumbled across a compilation of comics at my local bookstore that included Torpedo. At least, I assume that's the reference...

I'll have an IC post once I figure out how Richard would respond to this meeting, it might take a little while.

@Vertexx69: Nice to have another player! I can't wait to see Oroku in-game, I really like the concept... it's definitely not an angle I would have thought to approach a game like this from!

Male Chinese

Well considering how open the roster was, and this being my first time using Requiem, I tried for something simple and focused system-wise that I could build a personality around. A tiny, cyberpunked, club-kid with a heavy martial arts background struck me as entertaining.

I meant to say:

"I'm sorry Rich. I've known about what you are for a few years now . It was just easier to...ignore it,"
-----
@Oroku:

What is fun and why it fits so well, and why the city actually has a number of martial artists, is because I set a BESM game here. Many of the city's non-WOD characters are from that game(s). In fact, most of the characters you guys meet are from previous games I've run in this fictional city since 1998. It really helps flesh out the setting and it's history.

Male Chinese

Nifty. I do enjoy a richly hewed backdrop. It makes moving around quite a bit easier, and lets a storyteller put more thought into a given encounter when the location is already clear in their mind's eye :D

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

Thomas, I'm waiting for Richard to post, in case you wondered.

Richard, I am hoping I haven't posted too much for you!

Wait no more ;)

Excellent post. It was a bit of a big chunk, and I stayed up later than I should have working out my response. I'm going to nod off now and try to get 3 hours of sleep but even if I'm living off of coffee tomorrow, it was worth it. I like where this is going... even if poor Richard's nights just keep getting worse and worse.

So, I hit the max word count in the campaign details. I made an Obsidian Portal entry, but I haven't a clue what to do there, so it might take a little while to get all the info up.

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

Here is the Obsidian Portal link

@Vertexx69:

I keep tumbling something through my head:

It at least seems to me that you are quite determined to try and gain some sort of foothold with your character; everything comes back to your character knowing people and having power in the setting, but the fact of the matter is, he does not.

I know that Masquerade had Vampires running around in it that were old. But Requiem does not, (not unless a Storyteller wants them to) and Pendros most certainly does not. Machiavelli is not a Vampire in this setting; he's just dead. Same thing with anybody born before the year 1700. The Queen? (Not that you'd know this) Embraced in 2008. Most of the movers and shakers of the setting? 2022. (Again, not that you'd know this)

So, cool down. The game is about making connections, and building power, not completing missions. You don't start with it (unless you buy up merits reflecting this). One's background could contain once having those connections and power, but for whatever reason, no more. (Richard is great example of this)

Just keep one thing in mind: I want you to succeed. While I will place obstacles in your way, as long as seek to overcome those obstacles (and not be an idiot, not saying anyone is, but keep it in mind), your character will achieve their goals. Err, as long as they have them. Only Thomas seems to lack any; I suspect you are thinking of some Volt? I totally loved his latest statement about the Queen not reflecting the values of the Carthians.

Male Chinese

Did my first post come off as extreme? I just like being detailed and descriptive. I thought if I was extra nice the queen might not be totally mean and flakey. I'm trying not to go meta on anything.

The fact is Saki came from an isolationist monastery in northern china, where they didn't even have electricity, and was taught to be courteous to authority figures his whole life. Cut to 6 months dead and alone in a 2038 American city with every convenience and comfort, where he likes the club scene. That's all he has to draw on right now, and that's what he's using.

The queen has been a vampire 10 years longer than Saki has been alive so she's pretty old by his standards. ;P I'm not trying to marry the queen or anything, Saki was just asking a pretty club girl to dance, because that's what he does. Obviously she's not a club girl though, but one of those haters that goes out just to rip on others. hehe

Learning how to make contacts is part of what he has to figure out, but its most likely not going to start happening in the first post, or even the first ten :D and I'm fine with that. He just happens to be literally starting from square one at the beginning of his unlife.

I just want to learn the world, at which point I'm sure more specific goals will come into focus. And the best way to make contacts is to get out into the world and meet em.

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

I actually do not think your first post was too anything! :) In fact, I enjoyed it, but I know Sasha (and more importantly, her player) and if trying to stimulate, shock or insult doesn't get a reaction, she'd be peeved; however, with Sanctity, she was quite less severe in her reaction.

I'm quite glad I didn't insult you with that post; as a Nerd, I've grown to dislike insulting people, and am hypersensitive to doing so unintentionally! Your character actually fits into the setting like a puzzle piece! I look forward to his interactions with the other Characters, and Zoe and Yui!

Male Chinese

This is also my first attempt to PbP in a WoD game. My old standard tabletop crew was all hyper-competitive power-mongers that actually went out of their way to kill each other off any chance they got. So we never really got a whole lot done besides practicing our infighting skills :-3

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

I find WoD works far better for PbP than most fantasy games. I am also running a fantasy game here, but it crawls because we aren't in a dungeon and it is pretty open right now!

1s do not subtract from successes, unless a roll explicitly states otherwise. Some particularly cheap firearms use that rule but it is rare. Also, don't forget your bonus dice from 10-again...

Male Chinese

I'm gangrel its our clan weakness that we don't get 10 agains, and 1s subract from successes on Int and Wits rolls aside from initiative and surprise.

Oh, I missed that. Harsh.

Male , purebred asskicker

So I have a drawback on my preferred feeding method and my perception checks. In exchange I am starting play with natural weapons that deal aggravated dmg, that can't be found during a pat-down, and the ability to safely sleep just about anywhere. Its all about trade-offs :D

Dark Archive

Whatever's clever Human Librarian, 5th Level

Actually, you might not be so bad off; I'm not sure how or why you are using wits in the matter you are. You should be looking at the Social attributes (mainly) when using social skills. However, I am quite open to hearing an explanation.

Also, I'm going to need to know more about his drugs. Without any contacts, no ranks in engineering or science, I'm not sure how he has it (you might be able to swing those ranks in occult though; Alchemy and that jazz), and if he is searched and doesn't have any on him...

You can PM me if you'd like the other players to not know.

Male Chinese

I'm not sure how I would use composure to feed, especially in a club setting. Some people might go with bold faced lies about their job or have that unspoken allure to get women interested, but Oroku doesn't have those things to work with. But being witty and flirty as Saki socializes with them, seems like the best way to get a girl he's never met before to let him kiss her. At least that's been my real world experiences :D

To justify his Occult 3 rating, he has been reading for a couple hours a night for 6 months at the Ordo Dracul meeting center, with a particular interest in what he has become. Hes also been talking to the other members every night, and must have been able to gain access to at least a passing amount of relevant information.

I have PM'd you about the Red Magic.

Male Chinese

Is there a way in the dice rolling here to get the 10-agains to roll. How do I get the success statement at the end of the rolls?
