8 Gozran, 4718 AR; Sunday
Le Voile leads those using the north exit. The passage off the basement is fairly long, and comes to a ladder that descends into the catacombs below. "I use these tunnels quite often," Le Voile remarks, as she leads the descent. "There are certainly dangerous places down in Le Vide, but this stretch is not one of them."
Le Voile moves quickly ahead, the small ragged bundle making leading the way easily in the dark and cramped passageway. The smell of rot and mildew grows stronger as you pass well under the Kantele. Finally, when the rank smell fades, Le Voile stops at a ladder. The passage continues
"The shop upstairs is abandoned. Come and go as you wish, but not if you're being followed. And don't get lost down here," the mysterious small figure bounds off deeper into the tunnels.
You exit the old furniture maker's shop, the east side of the Theatre Quarter. The sun rises higher in the sky, but the southern wind has picked up, and promises to keep the air cool.
Sunday is the only official day of rest for the rest of Isarn, which means it is La Lumiere Rouge’s busiest day of the week. You will certainly be needed at Unchained Melody throughout the day. Does the Melody put on shows? Do they do anything special on Sunday? Any work Nyx does on Sunday is best focused in La Lumiere Rouge, with the other days of the week having less busy mornings and afternoons.

Disguise: 1d20 + 16 + 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 16 + (8) + 1 = 41
Nyx attempts a rather straightforward disguise as she leaves the property, not that concerned about prying eyes or people actually seeing her leave, but then again, not wanting to add any undue risk to her situation.
While Nyx ideally wanted nothing more than to immediately move on with finding out valuable intelligence on the task ahead, she was nothing if not patient, and she certainly wasn't going to focus on one thing to the exclusion of all else and have it all crash around her ears. Knowing that today would be a busy day at the Unchained Melody, Nyx heads straight towards it.
As per discussion via earlier PM about Unchained Melody, Sunday is probably the only day of the week where the gallery opens. There is probably a minor charge to access the more risque wings of the gallery for any casual viewers. Nyx probably keeps the Sunday evenings for gallery events such as art auctions, but this is relatively rare - a couple of times a month. I imagine clients that want risque art would pick Sunday since it gives them a full day - maximizes time spent on a given artwork. Within that though, each courtesan and schedule clients around whatever time they like - I just imagine many high profile clients pick Sunday if they want to maximize time spent. I don't imagine anything else special that I haven't touched on yet, Sunday is just probably going to be super busy for them to handle clients and do special events and run the gallery.

GM Renard |

Your schedule sounds a reasonable initial schedule from the previous madame. But Nyx is now in charge of the Unchained Melody, so you're welcome to decide what the schedule is and adjust it as you think is appropriate.
We can roleplay as much or as little of your time at Unchained Melody as you see fit. Does Nyx have any underlying plans there she wishes to develop? Is she going through the motions, eager to learn more about the Council's mission, or even about the Council or Councilors? I know you post pretty regularly, so we definitely have some time to explore some non-event roleplaying even though the timeline places it at the beginning on Nyx's solo time.

Nyx Illisha |

So, Nyx probably has multiple things she wants to keep eyes on. Sure, current mission would take precedence + priority but that doesn’t mean she isn’t still handling other matters, seeing clients, handling staff matters, maximising business, trying to work into the Court etc. She’s going to maximise opportunities to learn about Council members, goals etc of course. I usually imagine Nyx information process being similar to tracking down who would have the information she wants / needs first and then figuring out how to get it. I don’t mind event or non event rp though

GM Renard |

This part of the game is player directed. This is a solo sandbox, begin exploring and interacting how you see fit. Prompt us to react to the life of a mostly self-employed courtesan-spy. Internal dialogue is a good way to communicate that you as a player want knowledge your PC might already have.

Nyx Illisha |

Nyx slipped through the door of her establishment with ease, marveling as she stepped through the threshold of the building, always impressed with how she had adjusted the place. The high ceilings created a wonderful illusion of space, ideal for displaying artwork.
Lightly making her way through the rooms, Nyx slipped out of her basic disguise and headed into her office for a moment of quick thinking.
The task she had been given was a tricky one, and Nyx firmly believed that it would require her information gathering talents in order to succeed - but that would take time. Nyx was patient, she thought long term and she wasn't going to force things. If the information arrived before the deadline, all well and good, but if not, she wasn't going to be particularly upset.
Closing her eyes for the moment, Nyx reflected on what she needed to know. Learning who the Gardeners were would be impossible, but if she could learn the route that would be impressive. Only a small number of people within the inner circle would be privy to that information however, and Nyx reviewed that list. Nyx also predicted that someone senior within the guards would know - Goss would be expecting something and would have guards set up and orchestrated to limit this.
Of course, she also wanted to learn more about the Cerulean Council, its history, its members, and now that she knew some names - what they had worked on in the past to get an idea as to who past members might have been and what other missions might have been carried out. Nyx was practical though and knew she couldn't openly ask for such information, but if she kept an ear out she might learn something.
Lastly, putting all of that to one side, she still had to manage the complex web of significant individuals. Her business needed to be profitable, her station needed to be intact, her influence growing, especially if she wanted to move up the ranks of power. It was all rather a lot of juggle. Nyx briefly entertains the idea of calling in one of her courtesans to help her relax for a moment but discards the idea as selfish and unprofessional.
Gathering herself, Nyx focused on the day today - which was a busy one that promised possibilities. Every month, in the evening she held a high society event in the Gallery. High society wasn't much in Galt, but Nyx had learnt that people always wanted to be top of the pile, and exclusivity that came with it. People wanted an excuse to dress nice and mix with other influential people, and an art gallery was perfect for this sort of thing. Nyx preferred to use such events as an excuse to observe, who for instance, couldn't handle alcohol, who had wandering eyes, how Person A reacted to Person B and so on. It was also ideal to find an excuse to discuss sensitive matters. The actual art itself was merely window dressing - although Nyx also made sure that the quality was high, and didn't contain any particularly erotic works - preferring to display the art fit for public consumption. She kept such works in a separate room off-shooting the main gallery - and had a separate auctions for more risque artwork every fortnight. She didn't openly advertise the gallery as a part time brothel - the clients themselves knew and perhaps offered invitations to other like-minded individuals. It was exclusive, and that was what Nyx liked about it.
I hope I didn't take too many liberties, I'm still finding my feet a little in this solo sandbox. Are their any influential NPC or people that Nyx should know? I feel like there are people Nyx knows that I don't. Let me know if you want / need more or less in a particular area and I'll find my footing.

GM Renard |

Preparations by the courtesan-artists for the evening event had already started quietly, but hurriedly in the background of the Unchained Melody’s normal operations. The workers were checking the stock rooms and occasionally moving around the displays.
A knock on the door of her office snapped Nyx out of her ponderings. “Madame Illisha?,” one of Nyx’s courtesan-artists, Sabine, peeking her head into the office. Sabine is far more talented as an artist than as a courtesan, with her sculptures consistently provoking discussion or bringing in crowds. “I received word that Monsieur Fenn is in Isarn and coming to tonight’s Gala,” she adds cheerily.
Alkos Fenn is a older Kellid merchant from the River Kingdoms, and “regular” at the Melody. His parents were traders specializing in Galtan art, and while the Revolution has slowed business, the merchant still visits the city as his travels permit. Alkos collects “new Galtan art” as he calls it, post-Revolutionary pieces, from the Starving Artists, to new plays scribbled at the Sloppy Scribe, and numerous pieces from the Melody. Though he is not often in town, you’ve never heard of him coming to town without visiting the Melody Sabine was always a favorite companion of his, spending hours talking with her about art in Galt, both old and new. You suspect any carnal relationship they share is mutual, but Alkos pays for all his time with her all the same.
“I also asked the others if they knew of any other clients we should expect tonight. I heard Julie Goudeaux and Raymond Bilodeau were almost assured to show up.” Neither were a surprise, both were regulars of the these gallery shows. Raymond is a human in his mid-30s that only shows up for your gallery presentations. To your knowledge, he’s never made use of your side-rooms at all, instead focusing on studying the art for hours at a time. He’s purchased numerous pieces, though he often favors the artists that are inspired by pre-revolutionary artists. Raymond works as one of the more skilled sewers at the Louis Vauquelin Clothing Company, taking great pride in the art of his work. Raymond is in particularly good favor with Nyx as her contact at the LVCC for all her clothing needs. Julie Goudeaux is a former member of the Starving Artists, citing “creative differences” as her reason for leaving. The young half-elf left the group some few years ago to pursue her own art, with a brief stint working at the Unchained Melody under its previous madame, Paige Oullette. Now she performs on stage, with her shows being some of the most popular in all of Isarn. Her shows are varied, from classical plays, to avante-garde one-woman productions, to raunchy shows at Margaery’s Playhouse. She is a woman of deep passions, often enthusiastically purchasing time with the male and female courtesan-artists as the evening progresses.
No word of the invitations Nyx personally extended, but that was not unusual.

Nyx Illisha |

"My congratulations Sabine, Monsieur Fenn is always the most delightful customer." Nyx responds, projecting a little enthusiasm into her tone.
Unlike some Madame, Nyx didn't particularly mind some of her staff forming some bonds with a few particular clients. It could prove troublesome, but Nyx placed a high priority on her staff's well-being and safety. More than once she had used her connections and influence to help one of her staff out of a minor charge. Nyx didn't mind, she prized loyalty extremely highly and therefore tried to protect it as much as possible.
"Perhaps we could see about giving you a night off tomorrow" Nyx muses out loud after a brief pause, fully aware that Alkos visited briefly, and leaving the door open for Sabine to spend some more time with the merchant. The loss of income being a courtesan down for a day or so Nyx hoped would be offset by Monsieur Fenn's goodwill at the small gesture, and besides happy staff were productive staff.
The news of two further clients attending was not unexpected, but still welcome. Nyx liked to get as many people into the room as possible - the larger the crowd, the more people chatted and the better she could make her observations. Nyx didn't particularly care if the people were at the gallery to appreciate art or purchase a courtesan - the idea was for it to be a social occasion, event, or party in a city where such things struggled to occur.
Being a spender at the LVCC meant that it wasn't a surprise that Raymond would repay the favor slightly and attend, but Nyx still appreciated the gesture all the same. Likewise Nyx made a mental note to attend the latest show that Julie was starring in. Sometimes it was tiring trying to make friends with everyone but Nyx considered the more friends one had, the safer one would be in a city such as Galt, where randomness seemed common.
"Let me know if you hear of any further attendees Sabine, or any problems that require my attention, but I need to address a few things, I'll return shortly" Nyx remarks politely, Sabine's interruption indirectly clarifying a few things in her mind as she nods politely in her staffs direction before ushering them both out of the room.
Stepping out onto the street again, Nyx mentally reviewed a small checklist of things that she felt she needed to do. She wanted to visit the Calistrian Leadership in person, but first, she wanted to track down a historian, someone skilled enough to remember past histories and therefore learn a little more about the various Councils.

GM Renard |

There are four historians Nyx knows of:
Geldwine Freeman: Captured by slavers at a young age, Geldwine has been an unabashed advocate of the Revolution. He’s famous for his regular appearances in major riots throughout the Revolution, but is equally famous for his mercurial nature, working to overthrow some of the same councils he installed. Still not old by gnomish standards, Geldwine has perhaps more first-hand accounts of the Revolution than anyone in Galt, but his stories are often considered talled tales or altered by his whims. He lives in Sud Riviere, near Brewer Street, where he’s a regular fixture, drinking well into the evening and sharing his stories with anyone who will listen.
Catherine Monvoisin: The current master at Old City Alchemy. This older half-orc has lived through most of the revolution, observing all the upheavals from within Vieille Ville. Though her demeanor is often cited as unsettling, she is always professional with customers. She is not prone to speaking of the Revolution on her own, but would be willing to trade for the information. Her knowledge of history is not overly broad, but her discretion is unquestioned.
Raymond Bilodeau: Already friendly with Nyx, Raymond is the head tailor at the LVCC. Between his youth there when his parents worked, and his own tenure at the shop, Raymond has met some of Galt’s most notable citizens. His knowledge of Galt’s notables over the last twenty-years is rather impressive, but his true passion lies in Galt’s art history.
Lev Bronstein: One of your newest co-conspirators. This elderly halfling is famous for his impassioned rhetoric and egalitarian ideals. Thrown in Edme’s famous Torvin Academy, turned prison, for 20 years for his activism, he’s supposed to have heard the stories and musings of many of the Revolution’s most dedicated dissidents while they awaited execution. Since his release a few years ago, he’s moved to Isarn and made his home in Le Commune.

Nyx Illisha |

Nyx weighs the possibilities for a moment, quickly discounting Geldwine who she considered unreliable. She suspected that if Lev had any information on the Cerulean Council, he would have already mentioned it prior - visiting him directly would be unlikely to yield much information. The fact that she was meeting Raymond anyway meant that Nyx didn't believe much could be gained from speaking to him any earlier - the shop was hardly the best place to hold a public discussion on previous Councils.
Checking the task off her list, Nyx heads to the House of Joy, nodding to those she knew as she passed. She wanted to urgently discuss the situation with Madame Lacroix if possible, and see if she had any information that could prove useful.

GM Renard |

Nyx steps out into the streets of La Lumiere Rouge. During the lunch hour, the barkers have stepped out, preparing for the afternoon rush where they will compete for customers. The few patrons exiting of brothels already at this hour are often gaunt, using the lower rates at uncommon hours.
As Nyx approaches the striking facade of the House of Joy. The grandeur of the temple is only slightly diminished by the many window boxes filled with vegetables lining the windows of the temple. You recall the fuss made about it some years back, but arguing against growing food with all the other indulgences granted to the Calistrians was too much.
Entering the temple, Nyx is greeted by another laypriestess, “Sister Nyx, welcome to the House of Joy. Is there anything I could do to assist you?” The gold-and-black dyed woolen garments, while still of simple material, conveyed the wealth expected from the House of Joy. All the gold-plated moulding had been removed from the manor, but the luxurious furniture and flooring remained, harkening back to imperial grandeur.
Upon hearing Nyx’s request to meet Madame Lacroix, the priestess escorts Nyx to a private room on the second floor. These rooms once served as courtesan’s chambers, but more often serve as meeting rooms after the large expansion of La Lumiere Rouge over the course of the Revolution. “I’ll tell Madame Lacroix you wish to see her, but she may be a while.”
The sitting room is a rather ornate affair, with three cushioned couches set around a coffee table in the center of the room. Against the wall is a cupboard with a porcelain tea set bearing an intricate bee and flower motif. The pièce de résistance though, is the curtains of velvet. This type of luxury was incredibly rare in Isarn, likely only in the House of Joy.
As time passes, Nyx’s urge to wander the House grows, but she needs to found quickly once there is a gap in Madame Lacroix’s schedule. After forty minutes you are found by the laypriestess and brought to Madame Lacroix’s chambers enters the room. The woman was well into her seventies at this point, but her wits were sharp, and her body unnaturally youthful. She wore golden silk robes with accents of black, her giant wasp companions flying around her chambers. Nyx has not seen the inside of her chambers before, and they were unquestionably stunning. There is a king size bed with sheets of silk, and an cherry oak frame. The velvet curtains, with a gold-plated curtain rod adorned each of the windows. The masterfully crafted sideboard was stocked with liquors Nyx had never heard of, it would certainly be the envy of the Caydogs.
Though, Nyx is a member of the Court of Bees, an individual meeting with Madame Lacroix was still not a common event. “Welcome Madame Illisha. It’s unusual for a junior member of the Court to seek me out without an appointment, I imagine this business is rather urgent. What have you come to discuss?”

Nyx Illisha |

Was going to submit a quick post at work but since this was such a detailed update - wanted to do it justice.
Nyx smiles a little as she walks back through the temple. While she had rotated through much of La Lumiere Rouge's hospitality sector, she still considered the House of Joy to be as much as home as anywhere else.
Nodding politely with the laypriestess, Nyx allowed herself to be directed to the suitable sitting room. She knew it was technically rude to walk in without a dedicated appointment, as well as being aware that Madame Lacroix was extremely busy and therefore was quite happy waiting. Nyx contented herself with gazing around the Temple, seeing who she recognized and who she didn't, as well as mentally rehearsing her approach to such a senior member of the Court.
When she was brought to the Madame's personal chambers, Nyx resists the urge to gaze around as best as she can. The idea (she was certain) was to distract and mislead, as well as indirectly show the prestige of the Temple even in an economy such as Galt.
"Madame Lacroix, it is indeed an honor to see you on such sort notice, especially without giving prior knowledge of an appointment - something I apologize for. I appreciate you finding the time to accommodate me."
Nyx gives a half smile at Madame Lacroix at her words. Both of them knew that the greeting was mere words, a preamble and yet expected nevertheless for politeness sake. Even urgent meetings required proper respect and protocol.
"I actually wanted to see you as a representative of the Temple, rather than as a senior member of the Court. I wanted...guidance on a religious matter"
Nyx pauses for a moment, unsure how much to reveal or how to phrase it. The situation was complex enough already, but she wanted information, and guidance. She didn't entirely want to lie obviously - she had too much respect for Madame Lacroix, but likewise she didn't want to place her in an awkward situation.
"Speaking hypothetically here, let us suggest that I had an encounter with a regular of mine, who came to me with a particular problem. This person had proven to be a reliable worshiper of Calistria and wanted to enlist my help with revenge - something he or she believed a Calistrian would be well experienced with. IN this hypothetical situation, I imagine that I would directed this person to the House of Joy as is appropriate, but for the sake of the argument, this person insisted on discussing it with me. Lets suggest that they mentioned someone they cared deeply about being kidnapped in secret - rather than publicly. Clearly, in this situation I, as a loyal servant of the Revolution, couldn't possibly condone any action against a likewise loyal member of the Revolution, and yet equally Calistria would teach us to be as helpful as possible. As one of our most experienced priestesses as well as wise personal mentor to me from afar, I was wondering how to best proceed in such a given situation?"

GM Renard |

“If you seek privacy, this room is protected against prying, magical and mundane,” Madame Lacroix offers. “Hypotheticals and suppositions are for barristers and philosophers, please speak freely, or I cannot offer you the guidance you seek. I have made time for you as an acolyte of this temple and fellow member of the Court, please do not squander it. We know our time is far too valuable for that.” Lacroix is famous for her honeyed tongue and expert diplomacy, her bluntness here seemed unusual, certainly an attempt to reinforce the idea that Nyx should speak freely.
Madame Lacroix’s stern reproach ends, and her usual more pleasant demeanor returns, “Of course, I can understand keeping an ally’s confidence, and would not ask you to break it. This is no inquisition, and I will not press you further, but I’d hope you trust in my discretion.”
She continues, “Helping someone wrongfully captured to be free is certainly fine with Calistria. Helping them then get revenge against their captors would certainly earn her blessing. Remember, the Unquenchable Fire is about making your own path. What do your instincts tell you?”
Madame Lacroix then finishes, adding, “Unless there is more you’d like to offer, I must cut this meeting short.”

Nyx Illisha |

Nyx nodded, not at all offended by the initial blunt tone by her superior.”Forgive me, I like hypotheticals because they give plausible deniability if there are any unforeseen consequences. I have no wish to indirectly cause problems for the Church or the Court. I will remember to speak openly in future - if there is a next time.”
Nyx gives a short half bow - sure that she doesn’t need it but doing it anyway as a sign of respect. Then she pauses for a moment. ”Actually I did have a minor request, if at all possible. If someone was to be able to locate someone that could give me confirmation that this person was incarcerated or who was responsible - that would make my path clearer. Just mentioning in case someone came across it.

GM Renard |

In case it wasn't clear. Madame Lacroix was being blunt in the first part, but was inviting you to continue with the discussion if you wanted to give more detail.
"Outside of places such as this," Madame Lacroix gestures around her room, "where there may be prying eyes and ears, it is a good habit. But among allies, it clutters honest discussion."
Upon hearing Nyx's request, Madame Lacroix smiles politely, "But of course Madame Illisha, we could look into someone for you. It could take some time depending on whether we already have a dossier available and how high-profile the subject is. The dossier will be brought to the Unchained Melody once it is prepared. Who would you like information on?"
I'm taking the liberty of assuming you mean Lev Bronstein in your post given the context.
Taking a moment Madame Lacroix responds, "He's not been brought to my attention before, so I do not know if there is a dossier on this Lev Bronstein. Was there anyone else?"

Nyx Illisha |

100% my fault, I wasn’t clear
” I was hoping that you could track down someone senior that would have access perhaps to incarcerated prisioners that are not publicised. It’s not as if you could just walk in and ask. I have my own information gathering methods but i’m struggling to penetrate the aura of denial that I would probably get. Again though, only if it comes up.”

Nyx Illisha |

Thinking harder for the moment, the Investigator gives a little more detail.
"I don't want to outright tell you specific details Madame, because I still want to protect you, the Church, and the Council as best as I can. I know that its not required, you are more than capable of handling threats, but the Church gave me a purpose when I was younger, and I'll still seek to protect that."
"That said, I understand you to have a shrewd mind, so I could give you a few details and you might be able to figure out the rest, or at least who is alleged to be the prisoner who is kidnapped. For instance I could tell you that this person is well-known, popular, and currently missing, and has been for some time. The government couldn't possibly admit to jailing this person publicly - there would be an outcry, and therefore likely cannot execute such a person publicly either - for the same reasons. Maybe you know who it is, maybe not, I might be able to speak more candidly, but I'm dealing now with someone elses secrets which are not yet mine to tell. It explains the problem though, that I have in successfully verifying my client's tale. I'm unable to merely ask around - the people in the know so to speak are the ones who cannot speak publicly. So instead, I'm trying to see if I can figure out who would know, and then work backwards from there. Probably someone with oversight of the Monolith to be sure, but ideally not a Grey Gardener - they tend to be so hard to identify."

GM Renard |

Madame Lacroix seemed to take interest in Nyx’s new information. She took a moment to think on people that might fit Nyx’s criteria. She began “I believe I better understand your predicament Ms. Illisha. It’s still hard to know exactly who you might mean. More than one influential figure has disappeared without a trace and presumed dead. We’ve even been responsible some such disappearances, and the Vice has no doubt had a hand in some as well.”
With some concern across her face, Madame Lacroix continued, “Looking for a source in the Monolith’s prisons is an incredibly tall order Ms. Illisha. The prisons in the Monolith are incredibly well protected, both physically and magically, it took years before anyone was confident they were even real. Equal care is taken in selecting the elite guards with access to that portion of the Monolith. I know we’ve had some exploratory research to form a dossier on the elite guards, but we had to terminate it for lack of progress. The guards were kept under close scrutiny, given magical protections, and none of them visit our brothels or the Vice’s gambling hall. They rarely leave Vieille Ville at all.”.
“I could point you to others who might have had more success. The only others who might have information on someone of such importance are likely your Madame Roulier, or the Vice. This isn’t to say any of them do; I would be surprised if they did. But Madame Roulier is a shrewd information gatherer, she has a habit of turning up rumors we have missed. The Vice have resources even we don’t. If anyone has such information, I would guess the Vice does, but getting anything from them would come at a steep price, be certain the information is worth it. We have one other contact, a cleric of Sivannah, who has occasionally offered us various secrets throughout the Revolution. While her secrets have always been true, our relationship has fluctuated over the years based on her inscrutable goals.”
Taking a pause to let her information sink in with Nyx, the high priestess continues, “I would like to give you final piece of advice. Avoid the Monolith’s elite guards. It’s a dangerous proposition, getting caught will certainly result in your capture or death. For all the paucity of quality guards in the rest of the city, the hidden parts of the Monolith are the best protected places in all of Galt.”

Nyx Illisha |

"Of course Madame Lacroix, I do not intend to deal with the Monolith's elite guards, directly. That would be reckless, even for me. I'm too pretty to go to prison or lose my head" the investigator finishes with a quick smile.
"With all that said, if I could get the name or location of this cleric of Sivannah, it would be extremely appreciated. We might have a chat at some point in time and it would be useful to know a little about her." Nyx nodded, wanting to avoid the Vice for as long as possible. She didn't have much in the way of influence with them, and didn't want to meddle as much.
"Lastly, before I go, I did have a further inquiry if possible. I'm still relatively junior in the Council, therefore sometimes I'm just a little out of the loop. Is there anything that I could do to assist the Council in achieving their goals? Perhaps a favor that needs doing? If there is not, that is perfectly fine, but I'm always available should anything come up" Nyx smiled, giving a deferential nod.

GM Renard |

We already have the Revolutionary and Cerulean Councils. We chose the name Court of Bees, since they also work a little differently and to avoid having 3. So please keep that in mind to help reduce confusion.
“Many groups have contact this keeper of secrets, though she rarely favors any specific causes but her own. My predecessor gave my cryptic instructions on how to reach Le Quatrième Voile, and warned me against leaning to much on her favors. Nobody has seen her face as far as we know, but she is unmistakable in her pile of rags. She is a skilled spy as old as the Red Revolution itself, but always returns to ask a favor of her own, sometimes years later. I can pass a message that you wish to meet, but I can offer no promises where Le Voile is concerned. She is as fickle as the wind.”
Considering Nyx’s offer, Madame Lacroix smiles at her newest Court member. “Your enthusiasm and dedication to the Court of Bees is definitely noted. Any notable secrets from your gala would be appreciated. And any art you think might accentuate the House of Joy’s decor would also be welcome.”
“Now I believe I must bid you adieu. I have other commitments I must meet. I enjoyed our conversation, and I hope this has proved useful to you Madame Illisha,” Madame Lacroix adds, gesturing towards the doors of her chambers.

Nyx Illisha |

Sorry, I knew it was court, just rushed it before work and typo'd it.
Nyx considers the proposal, interested that Le Quatrième Voile was a Cleric of Sivannah and that Madame Lacroix knew of her. She considers her Madame's offer, but is much less interested now that she knows the potential source was someone she had already met. If Le Quatrième Voile had influence in the Monolith - then doubtless it would have possibly been mentioned.
"I'll let you know at an alternative time if I need to message her direct I think. Doubtless it probably costs a favor or two and I'd rather not ask you to call in those for something that might not be required. So I'll see if I can find an alternative source of information and, if that fails, then I might ask you to pass that message across as a last resort." Nyx remarks easily, sidestepping the potential offer with practiced ease.
Recognizing the dismissal for what it was, Nyx nods in acceptance, elegantly strolling to the door, and leaving the room.
Out on the street, Nyx gathers her thoughts for a moment, reflecting on what she knows and where to go next. After the Madame's remarks, she does want to do some painting before the gala, and create some excellent artwork - but she still had time - plenty of it. So, Nyx quickly returns home, and attempts to see if she can make something she can be proud of.
Knowledge from what I know about House of Joy + Madame Lacroix + Court of Bees to make that artwork they might enjoy: 1d20 + 16 + 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 16 + (3) + 1 = 31
Craft Painting: 1d20 + 16 + 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 16 + (3) + 1 = 40
I am fully aware that this is not technically the best use of my time but I feel like I'm being faithful to what Nyx is. Put an * next to this action though I guess, I want to spend some time painting, not the rest of the entire day/night.

GM Renard |

For a 40 and a few hours work, you've probably sketched out what the painting will look like. What do you want the painting to be of?
I've moved Nyx down to 4:00 PM

Nyx Illisha |

I was hoping to learn what Madame Lacroix would have preferred - but if they are ok with anything, then its probably a sketch of Calistria herself with her guardian wasps. Its probably slightly explicit (as is not uncommon for worshipers) but its probably a "safe" topic to paint, instead of sketching (say) Madame Lacroix or the Court of Bees, which might offend someone. Unless Nyx knew for sure the type and style of the artwork Madame Lacroix or the Court would appreciate, she would default to the less risky option.
With it being 4PM now, and the Gala hopefully at night time (around 7:30), I probably have a few hours to do things in. Does the curfew affect Nyx's business / brothel / Gala or do I need to go speak to someone about getting permission?
If not, the next thing I'd probably do is head to the Plunging Blade to see if I can pick up some information on a few topics. I should probably aim to be back by 6:30 to get ready and help organise things.

GM Renard |

Stepping through the door to the Plunging Blade brings to mind how long you've been away. Early Sunday afternoon is precisely how you remember it. There were a few customers, but the Blade's did not get busy until later in the evening. There was music flowing out into the street and a young courtesan next to the Blade's barker, there to tempt the passers-by.
As Nyx walks confidently in through the front, the advertising duo pause and turn toward with looks of attraction and professional admiration. The many layers of thick silk drapes hanging in the doorway are new, but the room beyond is very familiar. Magical motes of light in all sorts of colors pulsated softly in the darkened room.
There were six customers on the floor, and another two at the bar. The young man under the blue spotlight danced rhythmically, as Nyx's old co-worker Fiona Bernot strummed a lute poorly as she sang sweetly.
“I’ll be a Chelish sailor,” a familiar man’s voice, robust and smooth floated over from the bar. The deep voice and far off accent could only belong to Rubani, the tall, sculpted Garundi man. His smooth, cocoa skin and cleanly shaved head was accented by a bright blue vest. Rubani had worked as the Blade’s bartender for years, and cultivated his own dedicated clientele. “Already coming back to us then, Nyx?” the man teased. “What brings you back to the Blade? Business or pleasure?”

Nyx Illisha |

"How could I stay away from Fiona's siren's call?" Nyx replies to Rubani, as she navigates her way through the brothel, pausing for a moment to place a few coins around Fiona in a way of saying both hello and thanks. By doing so, she hoped it would encourage other patrons to spend a little more themselves, least they feel a little self conscious after Nyx's act of financial assistance. Well...that was the idea behind it anyway.
Smiling, the investigator completes her detour, making her way over to the bar where Rubani was standing, nodding politely to the customers as she passes. In truth, while other people might be uncomfortable or awkward in a brothel, Nyx was extremely calm and confident, for her it was a natural habitat, one of the primary reason's she actually loved holding meetings inside them, the better to make any opponents uncomfortable.
"Its good to see you as well Rubani, but to answer your question, why does it have to be an either/or thing? You should know me well enough by now that my business is pleasure darling" she teases back, before settling herself down onto a chair.
"Its good to see that the Blade is still operating just as well as ever, its probably the place I worked the most in and I'm please its still just as popular. Speaking of popular though, why don't you make me one of your infamous drinks, and then let me know if Madame Roulier is available for an appointment."

GM Renard |

“Of course it is, Nyx,” Rubani replies to her inquiry, knowing her talents rather well, if not first-hand. He’s tended drinks to many a customer pining over Nyx after their visits with her.
Rubani began mixing Nyx’s cocktail of choice; he’d mixed it for her many times over the past few years. His motions bartending were obviously practiced. While not always efficient, they showed off his well-sculpted figure. After a minute, he presented Nyx with her glass. “The Madame’s in the back. I’d head back soon, traffic should start picking up soon.”
Roulier’s office was hidden behind the bar. One could push one of the wooden wall panels into the wall and slide it behind its adjacent panels, making for a secret door known only to the employees of the Plunging Blade. Madame Roulier strongly felt that having an office others could see really damaged the aesthetic of the Blade, so she had this sliding panel door installed to keep her office out of sight.
As Nyx enters the office, Madame Roulier is in the middle of putting on her face for the evening. Madame Roulier is a Galtan native, but obviously of Varisian descent, her olive skin and waist-long jet-black hair often made her stand out when she entered a room. She’s started to show some wrinkles without her makeup, but the beauty that earned her the Plunging Blade was still evident. “Nyx! So nice to see you back,” Roulier said walking over, giving Nyx a kiss on each cheek. Roulier ran a finger up and down Nyx’s arm, “Did you miss us so much you just had to come back? Did you want some time with one of the men? Or perhaps a woman? You know we pride ourselves on always having the right person.” Madame Roulier had often been flirtatious toward Nyx, considering it a lesson in seduction, and part lesson resisting it.

Nyx Illisha |

Nyx sipped her drink, satisfied that Rubani had lost none of his touch - his cocktails were amazing and Nyx missed them dearly. Leaving a few more coins on the counter as payment for her beverage, she heads into the office, immediately spotting her previous employer and indirect teacher.
Nyx wasn't bothered overly much by the flirtatious attitude shown by Madame Roulier, initially, when she had first started, she had been awkward about it, and shy, but now she found it slightly entertaining, a way of sharpening talents.
"Oh of course Madame, the Plunging Blade always knows exactly what the customer needs, as well as the perfect person to supply it" Nyx responds softly, playing along with the flirtatious atmosphere by winding Roulier's free arm around her own waist.
"As tempted as I am to reacquaint myself with some of the staff here, I wanted to ask you something - everyone knows that you know everything of interest within this city. I was wondering, since I tend to get up to a few naughty adventures on occasion, if you knew anyone connected with the Monolith. I hear they are remarkably bored individuals that could use a little bit of excitement now and again." Nyx finishes, keeping her tone light, relaxed and teasing, making the request as casual as possible.

GM Renard |

Apologies for the late response. I had a friend in town this weekend which kept me from updating.
Madame Roulier considered for a moment before answering, “Almost none of the Monolith’s guards patronize the brothels with any frequency, and certainly no regularity about them. I suppose the Revolutionary Council prefers these types for their most important guard postings. Something to do with the duplicitous nature of courtesans, perhaps. I think a few go to the Bastion of Freedom sometimes, though most of those are bailiffs in the small-time halls of justice. I’d love to get one of them through here, but I can’t say I’ve had the pleasure. Whatever ‘naughtiness’ you’re up to, there’s bound to be some other employees of the Council or Court around there of less import.”
Madame Roulier then dropped her always flirtatious facade, “Just make sure you’re not being too naughty.”

Nyx Illisha |

Its ok, no worries!
Nyx nods, but smirks a little at the Madames last comment.”Maybe i’ll need to temper me enthusiasm then for the moment. That you for the chat, it’s been wonderful, as always.”
Just wondering if I have time to go to Bastion of Freedom or if it’s best to work on gala prep in relation to the current time of day.

GM Renard |

It's likely best to go work on the gala at this point. I assume Nyx'd want time to get prepared and make sure everything is in order.

Nyx Illisha |

Noting the day drawing to a close, Nyx heads for the Unchained Melody, wanting to spend most of her time organizing the gala. Since it happened only occasionally, she was determined to pull out all the stops, ensuring that guards were paid off, refreshments were provided, decorations well presented with the gallery looking perfectly presentable, and the artwork displayed. Nyx also spent some time ensuring that everyone present, including her courtesans had amble time to get themselves ready and looking their best.
Once complete, Nyx retires to her personal chambers, selecting one of her favorite and more exotic outfits, something, displaying all of her physical advantages, and slips a small handbag on her arm, containing her elixers for the night before waiting for the guests to arrive.

GM Renard |

When Nyx came out of her quarters, the earliest of the guests had already begun to arrive. The first batch of arrivals consists Raymond Bilodeau and Alkos Fenn, each already enjoying a glass of wine and inspecting the art. Alkos had already found the company of Sabine, dressed elegantly, rather than a revealing manner of most brothels in Isarn, while Raymond was perusing art quietly on his own. The two of them typically arrive exactly on time to enjoy the art before the other guests showed up. Nyx knows from prior discussions that while these guests do enjoy the atmosphere of the gala, they enjoy the opportunity to enjoy the art in a less distracting environment.
It is unusual for guests to show up at social functions exactly on time. It’s far more common to have a small delay, and sometimes longer delays are used to make a point. Nyx isn’t expecting the majority of guests to filter through for another 30 minutes.

Nyx Illisha |

Nyx spotted her early regulars, and gradually starts making her rounds. She knows that both don’t want to be disrupted but she also didn’t want to be a rude host so after a few moments she swiftly stands by Raymond’s side
”It’s wonderful artwork, but I suspect it doesn’t compare to the masterpieces that old Galt could have produced from its legendary artists in past history,” she mentions in a sad tone, knowing the mans historical interests.

GM Renard |

Raymond looks up from the painting he’d been looking over, having not noticed Madame Nyx before. “There certainly are some masterpieces lost to time. While I do prefer the more classical art, it’s exciting to see a piece of newer art so obviously influenced by older Galtan art. It brings joy to my heart to see not all of our history is lost.”

Nyx Illisha |

"As a lover of the arts, did you manage to salvage any historical works before they were lost?" Nyx remarks in a casual manner, not really wanting to start up an in depth conversation that would prevent the man appreciating the artwork in peace, and yet happy to discuss the topic of history, rather than art, a little further if she could make the topic appear natural.

GM Renard |

Raymond let out a slight chuckle. “Most of the art that was saved, was saved before I was born. I imagine there was very little left by the time I could do much of anything to help. It’d make for a very heroic story, though, wouldn’t it? Besides, that would be quite illegal.”
Nyx understands there’s more to the message; the subtle emphasis on certain words, his word choice, the chuckle at the beginning, and his body language hinted at more. Nyx gets the impression he’d like to talk more about it later, and perhaps he has done just that.

Nyx Illisha |

Nyx nods and smiles in all the right places - filing the information away for further use and follow up at a later date. Leaving the man to his devices and interests in viewing the artwork in peace, she swiftly glides over to Alkos, nodding her head in a way of greeting.
"Its lovely to meet you again Sir," she remarks, keeping the greeting short and too the point, knowing that the man has his attentions split between the artwork and Sabine herself.
"Sabine, looking amazing as always, excellent style" Nyx briefly mentions to her courtesan, using the compliment not just to generate praise at the outfit she was wearing, but also the artwork that Sabine had completed and submitted.
If Alkos or Sabine chose to respond, Nyx was happy enough to trade remarks, but respectfully attempts to avoid disrupting the time Sabine and Alkos had.

GM Renard |

"She most certainly does," Alkos replies. "I noticed there are quite a few new pieces since I last made my way through town. I think we should take some time later to see how I could get these to the rest of the world. Many art collectors are too focused on the art of Galt's past to notice the fine new talent that has come up since the revolution."
He takes Nyx's hand and kisses it, "Madame Oullette had taken up such a noble cause with the Melody. It's wonderful to know that it is in such good hands."

Nyx Illisha |

Nyx nodded pleasantly at the merchant, inwardly thrilled at the possibility of artwork from the Melody becoming popular outside of her usual sphere of influence. Not only was it good business but it also increased her standing within Galt.
”I am, of course available later tonight or tomorrow if you wanted to discuss logistics and business, and my thanks for your kind words. It’s really though me who should be thanking both of you, among others. The Unchained Melody couldn’t flourish without the support of generous clients as well as our skilled staff” Nyx responds, indicating both Alkos and Sabine

GM Renard |

“We’ll discuss more tomorrow then. I presume late afternoon works?” Alkos checked with Nyx before returning to his discussion with Sabine.
Next to arrive was a tall man in simple gear and a badge containing an iris over a shield, the emblem of the city guard. The man was short, only 5’8”, but still always stood out, with his meticulously kept appearance, sharp features and friendly smile, Vern Laporte was not easily overlooked. Vern is the precinct captain of the Isarn City Guard in Nord Riviere. The man was relatively easy to make contact with, he was known for his visits to [i]The Bastion of Freedom. Nyx was not aware of any time he went to the Bastion for any purpose besides having some cheap drinks and socializing with his men. While Nyx had hoped a precinct captain would offer a lot of information, so far, the captain has proved to be less useful than she’d hoped. Deep in Vice territory, the captain’s job was more for form than function. Staying on the captain’s good side has proven to be a rather simple endeavor, with small tidbits of information and some pleasant conversations. He’s not responded to any flirtations Nyx may have tried to capture his interests.
The captain himself, Nyx could tell, was once a rather kind man. He started in the city guard to help people, but working in the Vice’s territory had since taken the optimism from him. He made some efforts in his past to fight the Vice, but the noticeable lack of his left ring finger speaks to the realities of fighting the Vice. He’d always talked about wanting to command in a different part of the city. Despite apparent dislike of his post, his gear was always polished diligently, despite its obvious age.

Nyx Illisha |

"Late afternoon will be fine" Nyx responds, before elegantly taking her leave as Vern Laporte walked in.
Spotting the man, Nyx inwardly winces at his choice to wear an official uniform of the guard to something more social, but she isn't surprised - the fact that the man commonly visited the Bastion of Freedom meant that he heavily prioritized his role in authority and therefore wanted everyone to show it.
"Captain, its so good of you to join us at this little party of mine" Nyx responds, crossing the floor to stand at the mans side, slightly surprised at his attendance but happy enough to be caught off guard. Her face a picture of interest, she lightly touches the man's arm. "Do you want me to show you around, or did you want to speak with me privately? How long are you staying for?"

GM Renard |

To be clear, he's not wearing his armor. I guess gear was the wrong word. He's wearing a nicely pressed tunic with some light embroidering along the neck and cuffs. He IS still wearing his badge, showing his rank and position. They're all clean and pressed. While he's certainly wearing the least impressive clothes of the evening, it's apparent he takes very good care of them, as he does with his work gear. I was just trying to add more information Nyx would know about him.
“You had told me I could drop by, Ms. Illisha. It was a kind invitation, but truth be told I wasn’t planning to come. Some of the pieces you described were intriguing, even if I am no great fan of art.” Vern’s unease was a little obvious, though he tried to maintain composure, “It seems like a might have a hard time fitting in with the rest of your crowd. I imagine I cannot be here too long, it would be poor form for a captain to be flaunting curfew while not on duty. ”
“I was going to look around on my own, but I would not turn down a personal tour. You’ve come a long way, Madame since you first approached me at the Bastion a few years ago.”
Here’s an outline of the workers of the Melody and some of their works on display tonight. Please do embellish on their current or previous works and expand on their personalities.
Sabine (Human, 34): Sabine loves to discuss art history and is often inspired by the classical Galtan influences. Her newest endeavor is a sculpture series of the gods. Tonight she is unveiling the newest piece, Brigh. She has already complete: Sarenrae, Iomedae, Shelyn, Aroden, Abadar, Gozreh, Alseta, and Irori. Raymond purchased the piece of Shelyn and a barrister came through and bought the statue of Aroden on behalf of a client, your instincts have lead you to believe Korran Goss himself made that purchase. Alkos bought the status of Iomedae, Irori, and Abadar last time he came through town.
Nikita (Tiefling, 28): Nikita is a very talented weaver whose parents escaped Cheliax and fled to Galt for their freedom. She is a firm believe in the revolution. Tapestries are immensely time-intensive work, so her newest piece has drawn a lot of anticipation and is the centerpiece of the night, to be unveiled later. It is called The Path to Freedom. It shows a journey of escaping slavery, hiding from captors, fighting back, and gaining freedom.
Gaspard (Half-Elf, 24): Gaspard is known for his incredible vocal range and talent for musical composition. He performed a new composition last gala, this gala he is performing a scene from a classic Galtan opera, though he is performing all the roles himself.
Valentine (Half-Orc, 32): Valentine is not a master in any particular art form, but is prodigious in many. His pieces lack the refinement of many of his contemporaries, but often include new thought-provoking themes or techniques, making his art interesting. Today he has a metalwork sculpture made from reclaimed Isarn City Guard armor, formerly imperial armor, that is made of broken manacles thrown at the feet of a pit fiend in Queen Abrogail II’s regalia.
Crystal (Human 20): The least talented of the Melody's artists, but certainly the most skilled courtesan. Her regulars, of which he has quite a few, insist that she is an extremely skilled dancer, who is wasting her time trying to be painter. Nyx doesn't necessarily disagree with that statement, but doubt the regulars were putting that much thought in to the assessment. Tonight she is performing a dance for the first time, rather than presenting a painting.
Marcelline (Human, 24): Marcelline is technically a very skilled painter, but rarely pushes her boundaries. She consistently produces "safe" pieces that do well, but nobody in particular loves. Nyx would love to push her to try something more daring. Her last few pieces were all classically inspired paintings, but of major scenes throughout the Revolution's history. Her last painting was a landscape of the Fog Peaks with the white dragons flying over them.

Nyx Illisha |

"Oh sir, you don't need to worry about fitting in here, most of the people here tonight are acquaintances of mine so I don't think there should be any trouble. Stay as long as you can, or indeed wish" Nyx remarks, winding her arm around the man, walking with him towards some of the artwork on display.
"Ah yes, the Bastion of Freedom, its certainly been a little while since I have paid it a visit, although I have been rather busy. I was probably a little less sure of myself back then though, back when you and I first met, as opposed to now. Then again, if I remember correctly you were a little different back then as well. Its still good to see you in La Lumière Rouge though" the courtesan continues, coming to a stop near Sabine and her artwork.
"Here, you can see more classical sculpture work, thanks to the flawless Sabine and her work. Sabine's doing several projects but is currently working her way through several of the major gods and goddesses. I keep hoping she does Calistria but nevertheless as you can see Captain, this piece of Brigh is incredibly intricate." Nyx describes, not touching the sculpture, but outlining some of the details, her fingers tracing patterns through the air. She smiles in the direction of Sabine, knowing that the artist was quite headstrong. Sabine always formed her own path, both in art and her clients, selecting both based on her preferences. At first, Nyx had tried to subtly influence Sabine but she had since discarded the practice, confident in her experienced courtesan's judgment and ability.
After a suitable pause, Nyx moves onward again, coming to a brief halt in front of the wall in the centre of the room, covered in a cloth. "This is Nikita's work incidentally, which will be unveiled later tonight. Nikita spends many months on her artwork, so any completed product is worth viewing. You can see an example of her work over there, a tapestry in homage to Shelyn - obviously a goddess whose interests align with our building." Nyx comments, pointing out the tapestry, as well as Nikita herself. Nikita had many admirers in Nyx's experience, mostly for the impressive quality of her work - although the previous links with Cheliax - however distant, had caused some trouble with a few extremists recently - perhaps due to some of the anti foreign rhetoric. Nyx always steps in to defend Nikita if she needed, although truthfully the weaver had a fiery temper and rarely needed rescuing from any sort of situation.
Strolling through the room, Nyx briefly indicates Crystal and Gaspard as they walked by. "If you plan on staying longer Vern, you should consider seeing their performance. Gaspard is often soft spoken, but has a voice that could make the most battle hardened dwarf weep, and Crystal is experimenting with her dancing. I have heard some of her clients mention she can make her body flow like water. Its her first dance tonight, so I'm sure it will be a spectacle." she mentions, continuing onwards with her mini tour of the gala. Nyx made sure to notice if anyone was catching the man's eye, although she wasn't expecting anyone to. Vern seemed to mostly be business and while frustrating, Nyx had to admire a little the mans restraint.
Coming towards the end of the tour, Nyx stops in front of Marcelline, and the work that the young painter had completed. Nyx had attempted to groom Marcelline as best as she could, being skilled in painting herself and hoping to encourage the girl into truly taping into her inspiration. She wasn't entirely sure why Marcelline was resistance into trying something a little controversial but she was determined to do what she could to help her staff. Nyx makes a mental note to see if Marcelline would appreciate chatting to Raymond - the two of them clearly had a love of art history and she wondered if that would prove useful for Marcelline.
Lastly, Nyx arrives to the piece she assumed Vern would appreciate most, the work completed by Valentine, and his masterful metalwork sculpture. Privately, Nyx hoped that Sabine and Valentine could coordinate on an artwork of Gorum, something she was sure would compliment both artists, Sabine with her current quest, Valentine, with his unorthodox but interesting techniques. Both Sabine and Valentine also projected confidence, which would often be reflected in the artwork.
"Well Vern, that is most of the artwork that we have on display currently, for the gala. We have a private gallery for more risque artwork if that is also to your interest, but its not currently signposted, there's no need to offend anyone's sensibilities. That is a brief overview, a mini tour, if you will, but please, if anything else takes your fancy, don't hesitate to let me know." Nyx smiles, happy introducing the man to everything within the gala.

GM Renard |

Vern considered each piece Nyx presented, taking a moment to consider the piece. Nyx was uncertain if he didn’t know what to make of the pieces, or if he was considering them deeply, perhaps both. Nyx did correctly guess that Vern would be most interested in Valentin’s sculpture, with Vern considering it for well over a minute.
After seeing all the pieces, Vern considered for moment before answering, “Thank you for the offer, but I think I’d just like to look around for myself a bit.” Vern then went off to take a look at Valentin’s sculpture again, looking closely at the metal of former city guard armor.
During Nyx’s brief tour with Vern, more notable guests had shown up. In addition to the guests listed below, some other regulars have shown up, but Nyx has determined they’re unlikely to yield any particularly interesting information.
Bernard Laurent, the head of the Winemaker’s Guild has made an appearance. One of the very few elves left in Isarn, and probably Galt at large, Bernard has an unusually deep passion for wine that has lasted far longer than typical elven fancies. His love of Galtans, and their passion for wine, have kept Bernard around through the Revolution. Bernard views the diminishing quality of materials as a personal challenge for him to keep producing the best wine he can given the circumstances, with his vintages being considered the height of Galtan vinting. This lifestyle he’s chosen has left Bernard unusually portly for an elf, often leaving him mistaken for a half-elf. Currently, he’s holding a glass of wine and has struck up a conversation with Raymond.
Two more arrivals that always add some tension to the night has also shown up. Dawn and Maeva Delon. The the Delon family are rumored to be tied to many crimes, which they’ve never denied. The City Guard and the Caydogs often ignore the small part of the city the Delon crime family have carved out of the Wine Quarter. Dawn, now in her late 60s is indisputably the matron of the family. Maeva, her daughter, is in her early 30s, and acts as her mother’s bodyguard in public settings. Dawn often carries herself with an unmistakable haughty poise that is signature to her style, and Maeva has the practiced movements of someone well-trained in combat. Dawn is inspecting Marceline's newest work.

Nyx Illisha |

Quietly pleased with herself that the gala was filling up, Nyx is a little surprised to see the Delon crime family arrive. Unlike how others might react, Nyx herself was remarkably blase about the apperance of a crime family at the Melody. Nyx was an information broker, a courtesan, and occasionally committed secretive crimes herself. She was hardly going to judge anyone for their chosen background.
Not discounting the possibility, but still relatively confident that Dawn and Maeva wouldn't be shortsighted enough to attempt anything in the gala, Nyx wasn't altogether sure if Dawn and her bodyguard were here to speak with her, or if they were just lovers of artwork. Out of the corner of her eye she spots Bernard Laurent chatting with Raymond, and mentally notes the two of them hitting it off, before pulling her attention back to the Delon's. Trying to assess any motivations Dawn might have, Nyx heads over to the Matron.
"Its a lovely painting, an excellent landscape, and yet I'm confident Marceline is still only scratching the surface as to what she is truly capable of" Nyx responds, thoughtfully looking at the artwork Dawn is inspecting, before turning to face the elderly women. "Dawn, and Maeva, its wonderful to see you both here tonight at the Unchained Melody. Can I assist you with anything tonight or are you happy browsing and socializing?"

Lol wow.
Hey should I roll Knowledge Local on these people or is what you write, what I would already know?

GM Renard |

Any information I give in the post is assumed to be known.
Dawn and Maeva turn to Nyx, they exchange pleasantries, commenting on seeing the potential in Marceline, but otherwise keep the interaction short, and give little to Nyx. The Delons are very insular and they often have an air of superiority about them. Their social skills have always been considered wanting, but their deals have a history of being upheld.
During Nyx’s exchange with the Delons, Nyx, and likely everyone else, noted the arrival of Julie Goudeaux. Obviously already a few too many drinks into her evening, Julie has already sidled up to Crystal and is flirting with the young girl.
Having waited for any guests to show up and view some of the art, it was time to get the pageantry under way. The presentations began with Gaspard performing his one man scene to significant applause. The half-elf was followed by Crystal, who’d separated herself from Julie, for her first public dance performance. While the dance was still unrefined, her movements were passionate, dramatic, fluid, and for some in the crowd, arousing. There were a few very passionate fans but a less enthusiastic reception overall.
For each of the two performances, you can pick one patron to keep a particular eye on to see how they’re enjoying the show. Roll sense motive for each.
Finally, it was time to reveal the headliner for the evening. Nikita walked up to the curtain covering her tapestry. Rather than downplay her Tiefling traits Nikita happily played them up, and today was wearing a new deep-neck dress to celebrate the completion of her work. “Thank you all for coming tonight. I have worked on this tapestry for months. Hopefully in conveys all the passion we have for our glorious revolution.” A “Vive la Révolution!” breaks out from the crowd, though none had the same passion as Nikita.
Pulling open the curtain, a fifteen foot wide and four foot tall tapestry. The whole tale of her family escaping slavery to Galt, as you had heard it, is woven into the space. A hush falls over the room as guests try to come up close to tapestry and study the finer details of the tapestry.
Next begins one of Nyx’s favorite parts of the night, the silent auction. Each guest that wishes to bid on an item will come to Nyx and make an offer for a piece or pieces of art. First to approach Nyx was Alkos. The merchant would typically pick up art at a discount, buying remaining piece in bulk, but today he made a bid of 2000 gp for the tapestry and 300 gp for each of Sabine’s sculptures that had not yet sold, and he spoke excitedly about being able to display this masterpiece outside of Galt. Selling the tapestry to Alkos would mean that it would leave Isarn, and Galt as a whole, but would have the opportunity to bring the work to the notice of the rest of Golarion at large.
Next up, Meava approached, speaking for her mother and offered 300 gp for Marceline’s painting. The price is considered a fair market rate for a piece of that quality, and an opportunity to begin a relationship with the reclusive Delons.
Julie put in a bid of 500 gp for Valentin’s sculpture and 1200 gp for the tapestry, then joked about putting in a bid for Crystal before running off with her to a private room. Julie, despite her flippant demeanor, has shown a keen eye for art. The performer is rather popular, and so far has been difficult to gather secrets on, despite her frequent patronage to the Melody.
Raymond approached putting in a bid of 250 gp for Marceline’s painting, and 400 gp for Valentin’s sculpture. Raymond is, of course, a respected historian and art enthusiast. Raymond would frequently bid on pieces like Marceline’s, obviously a fan of classical style, though he does on occasion dabble in newer art like Valentin’s. While Raymond studied the tapestry for a long time, he offered no bid.
Once the bidders had died down, Vern came by to wish Nyx a good night, commenting on his love of Valentine’s sculpture and that he’d had a pleasant evening.

Nyx keenly watched the participants in the crowd for the two performances, gazing at Julie Goudeaux when Gaspard completed his performance, before switching her attention to Vern when Crystal completed her dance, briefly checking to see how her patrons were reacting to the more unusual performances being trialed at the Melody.

I'm also triggering the second effect of Empathy, letting me read surface thoughts of Julie unless she makes a DC 19 Will save.
When the silent auction begins, Nyx is a great believer of being fair, those with a higher price usually got such items unless providing something else of equal monetary value. Therefore, this would mean that Alkos would receive the Sabine sculptures, Meava for the Marceline painting, Julie for the sculpture.
The tapestry is a little more difficult for Nyx, and in this case she asks Nikita if she wants the tapestry displayed in Galt or spread out elseware in the nation. After spending months of work, and showing such a detailed personal account of her situation, Nyx asks Nikita what her preference is, letting it leave Galt (in which case it goes to Alkos), or staying within Galt, (in which case it goes to Julie).

Julie Will Save: 5d20 ⇒ (8, 6, 10, 2, 20) = 46
Nyx’s knowledge of Julie Goudeaux is covered up when she was introduced earlier and in the post before this. She is also known for getting quite drunk at parties, often having one of her guests to events escort her home.
During Gaspard’s performance Julie has stopped fooling with Crystal and is watching his performance. She seems rather pleased with his performance. This is confirmed by her surface thoughts, which indicate that while she thinks Gaspard’s voice is excellent, he’d need to work on his dramatic inflection to make it big as an actor. She also had some thoughts one should not share in polite company about pulling in Gaspard for her night’s plans with Crystal
During Crystal’s performance, Vern watches the performance closely, but does not seem to be aroused by the dance. Instead, he is closely watching her movements as if studying them, while deep in thought. Nyx noticies his lips move as if muttering to himself.
As for the bidding, nobody expects to walk away with art tonight, generally wanting to arrange for its transfer. This is something handled over the next few days. One more clarification is that Alkos's bid is for everything at once, not piecemeal.
The evening is beginning to die down, with guests either taking their leave of the Melody, or in the case of Alkos and Julie, retiring to their courtesan’s quarters.
You have the opportunity to catch one or two people before they head out for the evening.

Apologies, I used paizo’s search function and it failed me RE Julia. What is Nikita’s preference for the artwork ie does she want it in Galt or displayed out of the nation?

Re: Julie (link) As for Nikita, Nyx wouldn't know her preference off hand, this isn't exactly a common occurrence. If you go ask Nikita now you'll likely forgo to chance to catch people before they finish up the evening. Nyx doesn't have to pick who wins the bids tonight, and can reach out to the winner within the next few days.
