Round 3

Tybek takes aim at the arachnid with his crossbow and presses the trigger to release the bolt once his shot is aligned up with his target.

Crossbow 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Damage 1d8 ⇒ 1

"Wid yae step aside and stop yer hangin aboot in the sticky webs! Ah'm tryin tae hit the big creepy!"

Once the dwarf fires his crossbow, he quickly reloads and prepares to fire again.

Tybek's bolt goes soaring past both Arindale and the spider. Also, don't forget to take -4 since you are shooting into combat.

If the terrain is difficult due to the webbing I would use Agile Feet to move in, just let me know.

I hadn't see the map until now, per my original post I should be in AA7 so Glorfin should be able to move in and attack.

Arindale. How did you get to AA7? You could not move past a corner at a diagonal. Also, the first attack by the Spider - which actually should have been an AoO would have taken place before you would have moved to AA7.

Male Human Cleric 3 (FC) AC 20 HP 29/29 F: +5 R: +2 W:+5 Perc: +2

So I couldn't have moved from AA8 to AA7 on my first turn? Per my original post I was trying to draw it's AAO from Maegge when I went fully defensive and if needed planned to use agile feet to move into AA7 so others could get in.

After going back through the posts, I see that the AoO was on Maegge when he fled since he did not use a 5-foot step. Therefore, Arindale could get to AA7 by using 1 round of Agile Feet. The next Round Glorfin move to AA8 and swung at the spider causing the nearby webs to stick to his hammer, but not damage the spider.

I do not have time to redo the map right now, but Glorfin is at AA7 and Arindale is at AA8.

Round 2

Arindale puts a big dent into the carapace of spider while Glorfin removes some of the webs near the beast by sticking them to the head of his hammer.

Braden again attempts to daze the spider, but his spell seems to have no effect.

As his companions fight in a dark web filled tower, Tybek causally fires a bolt into the dark hoping that it will hit something. Fortunately it did not his his companions, unfortunately it also missed the spider.

Round 3

Spider again attacks the alcoholic cleric.

Round 3

Maegge assesses their situation. The spider was inside the ruined tower, with Arendale and Glorfin blocking it inside - but also from the rest of them trying to help them with their ranged weapons.

If only they'd take a step back so we could let fly with our slings and crossbows without hitting them instead! Glorfin's made it clear he "knows all about tactics"... but then why are the rest of us standing around watching them get munched on?

Maegge would say something, but he's lacking in the self-confidence department when it comes to this stuff and simultaneously doesn't want to get into yet another disagreement with Glorfin.

Tybek

Tybek makes some off color comment about the spider and his party mates decision to block him for being able to join the fray.

Attack-crossbow: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 = 20
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8

Crit: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 - 4 = 12
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Tybek's bolt lands home and while it does not appear to have pierced as far as it looked it would, the wounded spider give up the good fight and falls to the ground as its legs curl up and a disgusting green-yellow ichor slowly seeps out where the arrow pierced it's bulbous eye.

Combat over

Once the spider falls to the ground, you are able to see that the interior of the tower is completely covered with strong webs which make movement difficult. The upper level appears to have collapsed and the interior is dark, appearing almost pitch black from outside due to the bright sunshine.

Dwarf Rogue 3 (hp: 31/31, AC 18, Touch 14, Flat 14, Perception +7 (+9 Traps), Stealth +13)

I've been waiting for everybody to finish round three and would have gladly posted, but I did not realize you were ready for me yet. However, thanks, Chaos. You knew exactly what I would have done anyway.

"Next time, widyae all step aside and lemmae pass through wid mae axe. I dinnae like shootin mae crossbow intae a pack of mae friends if Ah can help it! Well at least Ah took care o' that creepy web spinnin beastie afair he had yae wrapped up in silk ready tae mak a meal o' yae!"

Tybek this then turns to Maegge and says, "Now, wid yae kindly stay with the rest o' us and nae gae wanderin aboot lookin fer trouble. Yer curiosity almost got yae killed. Yae're nae a wee cat with nine lives yae ken!"

Sorry, things were going slow so I decided to post. The other option was that the spider would have gotten the 20 if you did not kill it, probably not a good thing for Arindale or Glorfin.

One of the last maps should have the whole courtyard on it and I think that you all should be able to see the whole TOEE directory in my gmail account so that you can easily look at any of the maps.

Dwarf Rogue 3 (hp: 31/31, AC 18, Touch 14, Flat 14, Perception +7 (+9 Traps), Stealth +13)

Tybek will then proceed to search around the tower for any treasure or something of interest.

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

"Well, let's see if the wee web critters loik tae keep treasure nearby!"

Tybek quickly pushes his way past the paladin and cleric and begins to search the room. In the process he feels like he has struck the goldmine, ok, a very poor silver and copper mine. Tybek finds 20 Caps and 15 Wolves while managing to get an huge amount of cobwebs stuck to this hair and beard together with numerous dead flies which appear to have decided that being stuck to the web was a good way to die.

Male Human Cleric 3 (FC) AC 20 HP 29/29 F: +5 R: +2 W:+5 Perc: +2

Party Drinking Fund:

1 Sail (g.p.)
1 Wolf (s.p.) +15 = 16 Wolves
0 Caps (c.p.) + 20 = 20 Caps

Do I see stairs ascending to the top of the tower on the battlemat?

Arindale:

You do not detect any magic. Don't forget you are down 2 Strength from the poison.

With a sigh, Glorfin once again sees a battle ended without any tangible effect from his own arm. As Tybek moves to look within the tower, the celestial dwarf's eyes take on a touch of sadness as he silently moves to stand alone and keep a vigil towards the stairs in the North East.

Any stairs have long since collapsed as did the second floor or the tower. There is a lot of junk, rotten wood, some bones of other victims of the spider, and lots of webs. Not an easy place to search.

Sorry - there is no magic detected from within the tower. Just a lot of sticky webs together with a collapsed staircase and the remains of what was probably portions of the second floor, all mostly rotted if not completely decomposed after all the years. Oh yeh, and a dead spider.

I assume you all are moving on to check the big stone staircase in the other corner?

Dwarf Rogue 3 (hp: 31/31, AC 18, Touch 14, Flat 14, Perception +7 (+9 Traps), Stealth +13)

Yes, we are ready to move on to check the stairs in the northeast corner. :-)

Tybek proceeds to lead the others across the courtyard to the steps to the northeast. He inspects the stairs carefully, especially looking for traps.

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Deciding that the collapsed tower holds nothing else, the party moves over toward the stairs leading into the keep proper. Walking over, the occasionally observant Tybek keeps his eyes glued to the ground suspicious that one of the old tiles might jump up and bite him. While he does not find any dangerous stones, he does spot what looks like footprints leading from the drawbridge across the courtyard and then into the doors. It appears that someone has tried to wipe them away, or perhaps it is just the wind.

Looking at the doors, you see that they are old and have been destroyed by some great force. While they clearly were designed to serve as a defense and likely protect the moathouse, they now hang askew from their hinges. What is left of the wood is rotted and splintered. Due to the bright sunlight in the courtyard, even with your darkvision, you cannot clearly see into the dark room beyond the collapsed doors, other than that there appears to be a sizable room of some type.

"I dannae see any traps, but we cannae be tae careful aroond this type of terrain. Everybody watch thair step, just in case."

Tybek walks up to the collapsed doors and tries to peer inside and let his eyes adjust to the darkness.

"Crivenns! Ah see some footprints, but it looks loik they were tryin tae hide them frae mae eagle eyes! Heh heh ho! They willnae hae such luck today!"

Can Tybek determine where the footprints went?

Same thing here, Arindale re-charges his light spell and his guidance then leads the way into the room with Glorfin.

This was once a great audience chamber, as shown by the tattered banners and tapestries on the walls, destroyed furniture, and heaps of rotting cloth thrown into corners. Once richly appointed, it has been thoroughly searched, sacked, and despoiled. Leaves and dirt cover the floor, and cobwebs hang from walls and the ceiling above. Looking up, you see that pieces of beams and chunks of stone poke through, indicating that the upper stories of the place are totally destroyed and likely to be impassable to anything larger than a rat.

There is a small opening in the northwest corner. Passages go to the west and south. And there is a door on the north wall in the northeast corner. There are also several arrowslits in the walls through which a small amount of light enters the room, but this is minimal and filtered by years of accumulated cobwebs and dust.

Tybek looks around the room (under and around the table and benches as well as the old tapestries). He is looking for anything of value or clues of any sort that might reveal who lived here and/or who may have recently visited this place. Next he inspects the throne of the audience chamber to see if anything of value still remains on the chair (I could see something like that on the map but not in your description). He then looks around the dais to see if there are any secret compartments hidden under a rock or something.

The footprints seemed to lead from the drawbridge and then up the stairs. Once inside they seem to get lost.

If there was anything in what is left of the throne and dias, it is likely long since gone. Other then dust, mold, mildew, spiders and an occasional bat, there does not appear to be anything of value left in the room.
