Tales of Sorrow

Game Master Raging Bull

A friend in need is a friend indeed. Yet friendship has become scarse in Tintalas and the Olan Vales, and need is high. Can a group of adventurers turn the tide, or will they vanish in the waves?

"Oh... I believe we plan to run some errands, maybe fight some crime if there is time before lunch... Again, my thanks Stoogie." and Euchrid turns to return to the room, already planning in his head the adjustments he will make to keep his pack balanced.

Errik chuckles at Eucrid "I think a stroll along the docks is all I had planned. We'll be sure to keep this quiet, thank you.

Errik moves back upstairs and packs all his things ready for the day.

Stoogie my fine fellow, I am Varro. May I peruse your stock of magical writings? And would you happen to have a Wand of Healing?"

GM:
I'm looking for scrolls of comprehend languages, detect secret doors, and obscuring mist.
Total 67gp, 5sp after discount for the scrolls... and 112gp, 5sp from each of us if there is a fully charged wand available.

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

Well, these all look very nice. Unfortunately, I'm very happy with my sword as it is, and can't afford the weight of any of these armors. But I will definitely come back if I need any of these. By the way, do you know anyone who deals in magical scrolls and wands around here?

Sczarni

Hmmm. A wand of healing you say? I'm afraid not. No wands or scrolls, just some weapons and armors with enchantments. Can point you at a good friend of mine tough. Smugglers know smugglers, right? You'll need to say the password to him tough. Any of you fluent in Argot? If you do, go to Leviat's house in the city centre. It's just across the central well, you can't miss it. He has a red door, almost the only one in the entire city. Tell him you'd like to paint the door, in Argot, and he'll lead you to an underground hall. He keeps market there every... oh! Today's a market day.

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

Euchrid stops on the steps going up stairs when Stoogie starts offering his contact."Ah, I believe I remember where I've seen that red door. Let me get my gear stowed and I will join you."

"Then we shall go and see a man about painting a door. Indeed Euchrid. You, Errik, Senthiri, and I are versed in the mystical arts and find these wares a little bare for our tastes, no?"

Varro shoulders his pack then allows Bonetapper a perch upon his hand and awaits the groups departure near the door.

"Thank you for your hospitality Stoogie."

Errik comes back down stairs with his gear already to go. "Hmm," He says as he hears his name mentioned. "A little bare perhaps, but nothing to be sniffed at. What's the plan? Where are we off to?"

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

Yes, thank you indeed. Senthiri hands Stoogie a gold coin. Let's go. With a flourish of his cloak,Senthiri follows his companions.

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

Euchrid leaves most of his gear in the room and joins them... "We are off to take a look at what one of Stoogie's colleagues has in the.. looks both ways and whispers ".. arcane department" he then shows them the way to the city center.

DM:

Sczarni

While you prepare to make way to Leviat's House, you notice Hissarion is not keeping up. Meranna investigates him, and informs you he is sick and should rest.

When you arrive at the Red Door, an old man opens up.

"Many guests these days indeed... What can I do for you, strangers?"

"Your door is a very strange color my friend," says Errik and then switching to Argot mid sentence. "Vvê Kùn vviś kùler ùre pôrta!"

Argot:
"We would like to paint your door"

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

Senthiri stands back, watching. He seems content to let Errik take the lead.

"Yes, I think black would be a more fitting color for it." Varro lets slip a smile and short chuckle.

Sczarni

You hear no reply, but the door opens. When you enter, you see a dark small room without furniture. It has two doors right in front of you, and before you stands a man, dressed in ancient Valesmen fashion. So old it's quite funny to wear these clothes nowadays, really. He is observing you when you come in and urges you to close the door quickly. When you all come in, he asks you another question.

Du sagde ordene. Men hvem gav dig dem?

Argot:
You said the words. But who gave you them?

Status:

Seeing no reason not to Errik answers truthfully "Vi bor på Hajer Tanden kroen, hjalp vi værten, Stoogie ud af en binde. Han fortalte os adgangssætningen."

Argot:
We are staying at the Sharks Tooth inn, we helped the innkeeper, Stoogie out of a bind. He told us the pass phrase.

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

As Senthiri steps in, he looks carefully around the room. And nods at Errik's response.

DM:

Perception:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Not that I actually think anything is wrong, but Senthiri is paranoid in situations like this.

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

"Just looking for some scrolls, and maybe a wand if you know where we can find one." pauses for a moment "Hvis det er ok med dig."

Bonetapper flaps his wings at the sight of the outlandishly dressed man, "Ar gyfer pwy mae'r corff cerdded? Nid wyf wedi gweld wisg megis yr un yn y degawdau!"

Varro scowls at the words... "Now brother that is not very friendly. Forgive my companion, his sense of humor is quite macabre."

Sylvan:
Who is this walking corpse? I haven't seen garb such as that in decades!

Sczarni

Senthiri:
You see nothing strange. Altough... Was that a sword at his belt? No stupid, that was just your imagination.

The man nods at Erriks answer and opens the left door.

Go down the stairs. It's a long way down, but when you come at the end you'll find yourself at the market.

Status:
HP: 27/27(13 Non lethal) | AC: 17 | Touch: 12 | Flat Footed: 15 | Fort:+1, Ref: +6, Will: +6 | CMD: 15 | Spells Cast: 1st 3, 2nd 1 | Arch Luck: 6/8 used|

Errik nods back "Tak." and he walks through the door and starts down the stairs.

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

Euchrid follows, very much enjoying the thought of a secret underground market.

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

Senthiri follows along, occasionally glancing back at the old mans belt, until he's out of sight. Senthiri then shakes his head and continues down the stairs.

Sczarni

The more you approach the end of the stairs, which is indeed very long, the more you hear the trusted buzz-like noise of a market. The place is a large hall, a bazaar with the size of a district. You see merchants and visitors haggling about prices, there must be at least a hundred in this great hall. You also notice several stairs and exits, clearly the entrance in Leviat's house is not the only one.

Feel free to make skill checks to know more about the area. You have to come up with what looks logic to you tough.

Male Human Monk(Master of many styles) 2

"This place is larger than I excepted. I wonder how they keep this place hidden."

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

Euchrid scans the market trying to decipher the layout and how to go about browsing the wares. Quite used to watching others for cues of how to act... he tries to fit in while looking for where he might buy his desired scrolls.

DM:
perception check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

"By all the fates! This place is enormous." Varro gapes at the size of the hidden market. "Perhaps we should seek out a guide to show us the best dealers? I'm sure there's a bright lad or lass that can direct us to where we need to go."

GM:
Varro uses a Diplomacy (gather information) check to find or hire a guide.

Errik stops in his tracks staring out over this huge underground market. His mouth hangs open a little and he nods slowly in agreement with what Liam says.

"What did we want again? He asks absentmindedly as his thoughts catch up with his body.

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

"Healing wand .. some scrolls. Keep sharp ... offer no unnecessary information. Might come across something useful, but our enemies mostly likely have eyes and ears here."

Sczarni

Euchrid:
You are seeing so much uncommon business that it's difficult to spot anything stranger as the rest.

Varro:
You approach a young appealing lady and ask if she knows her way here. She looks up, and starts to stare at you. For a moment you wonder what is going on, but then she answers: "I can show you everything here, my handsome lord." She will indeed show you everything around here, but you have a feeling you'll need to get rid of her if you hold your adventuring life dear.

Errik:
You heard of this place and you're glad to have finally discovered it. This is the Bazaar of Globeto, famous for it's scale and the fact it so far escaped attention of the Doge of Globeto. You heard you can literally find everything here, but perhaps that might be exagerated. But it's far bigger as the secret small markets in the Vales you visited earlier.

Status:

"Good advice. Wow the Bazaar of Globeto... I've heard tales of its size but I always thought they were exaggerated. We should be able to find whatever we need here."

Errik slowly recovers from his awe and has a look around at the nearby stalls.

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

I believe it when you say we can find anything. Now does anyone know how to find what we want to buy?

DM:
Senthiri considers whether he could navigate his way through here.
Survival:1d20 ⇒ 13
mostly just asking if survival might help

Sczarni

Senthiri:
You take a mental picture of the area you're standing now and it will prevent you from getting lost at this stage, but to find out where to go you'll need to ask the guide Varro hooked up.

"Well hello beautiful. My friends and I are seeking purveyors of mystical goods. If you would be so kind as to guide us to the more reputable shops I would make it quite worth your while... and if there's time maybe share a drink or two" Varro winks slyly to his companions and offers the young lady his arm.

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

Every cautionary tale and exaggerated anecdote of dealing with "these types" comes to Euchrid's mind ".... pickpockets .. hmm swipe something when they bump into you" he starts practicing a quick "go-for-the-wrists!" maneuver to prepare for when someone bumps into him. He stops to watch the woman dangerously close to Varro, and can only hope Varro is as prepared as he is.
"Oh yes... a guide. Excellent."

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

On our way then.

Senthiri looks their guide up and down, waving for her to lead the way.

Perception:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Sczarni

The lady grabs Varro's arm.

"Stay close, handsome. I'll lead you to the best shop around here: my mother's collection!"

She pulls Varro to a shop at the side of the bazaar. At a first glance, it doesn't seem like much. On a second look tough, it seems to hold a large collection of tomes, wands and scrolls. An old haglike lady stands up.

"Ah Lilly, what have you brought with you this time? What can it be for you, sir?"

Senthiri:
When you look at the signs of the shops, you notice one of them is carrying the symbol of the Black Sun.

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

"Well I for one am looking for scrolls ... and willing to part with a few gold for disguise self, identify, jump, and expeditious retreat scrolls if you have them for a fair price..."

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

Senthiri hangs back a little. When he reaches Errik, Senthiri jabs Errik in the ribs and tilts his head in the direction of the black sun symbol.

We've got friends here, Senthiri whispers to Errik.

Status:

Errik rubs his ribs and looks around at Senthiri's quiet words.

Perception:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

"Hopefully we won't be noticed in this crowd, but we should keep an eye out just in case." he whispers back.

He steps forward and addresses the woman. "And a wand capable of healing wounds wouldn't go astray, My my this looks like a fine collection of goods. I'm glad we ran into this young lady or we may have wasted all day looking around this bazaar and missed the finest store in the market!"

Diplomacy:
Trying to lay on the compliments so we get a better price? 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Male Human Magus (Bladebound) 5

Ah, yes. This is indeed the place to shop.

Diplomacy Aid:

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

And I am looking for some scrolls as well. Namely, color spray, magic missile, jump and silent image.

"Yes your lovely daughter was instrumental in aiding our search for the finest wares in all the market! I am looking for scrolls of comprehend languages, detect secret doors, and obscuring mist. A mere pittance for such a well stocked shop no doubt."

GM:
Diplomacy aid 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19, Bonetapper Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20, Varro Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Sczarni

The old lady mutters a bit.

Don't go flattering on me boy. Prices are fixed, competition is hard here in the bazaar lately! But it's still your lucky day I think, got all the things you need. Lilly! Open the case above the Mistleberry extracts and give these gentlemen the scrolls they need!

Help me a bit... What are you using perception on? The shop or the surroundings? Or both? If you use it actively, do specify on what. When I need one I ask or I make one for you. Thanks!

Sorry, Errik is scanning the crowds looking for anyone who may be following/watching us. Or anyone I could identify as a member of the black sun.

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

"For what reason do you say competition is hard lately, old woman? ... and I do hope these scrolls do not reek of Mistleberry." Euchrid turns his back to as much of the crowd as possible, hunching over, as he reaches through a few layers of clothing to pull his coin purse from its hidden location.

"Madam my mother would come down from the heavens to box my ears if I were not courteous to a lady." Varro says with a sincere smile as he peruses the shelves of the shop.

GM:
Varro casts detect magic looking to identify the school of the strongest aura in the shop; Spellcraft 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11.

Bonetappers perception is always looking for threats or opportunities for mischief!

Status:

"Is this the curatiive wand? Errik asks, his voice dropping into a steady business tone as he picks up the finely carved wand from among the scrolls, he casts detect magic and inspects it for around half a minute to make sure its what the group needs. If it checks out Errik reaches inside his shirt and pulls out a coin purse. He counts out 175 gp as his share of the curative wand.

OOC spoilered for length:
I guess we are all going to chip in a little extra now that Hissarion has dropped out , I'm happy to pay 175 which would leave 75 of Hissarions share uncovered. I also wouldn't mind wielding the wand, standing behind the front line shooting arrows and stepping in with the wand when needed but only if this is agreeable to the party?

male human alchemist 2 (chirurgeon, internal alchemist)

"I will pitch in ... as long as it is not Roefrero made... " Euchrid eyes the woman to see if she knows. After buying scrolls he gives Errik the remainder (saving 4g 6sp for himself)

Varro counts out 250gp to Euchrid and Errik for his share of the wand and three scrolls.

Male Human Monk(Master of many styles) 2

Liam who had been silently observing, brings out his money and hands Errik 125 gold for the wand. "Will that be enough?"
