In a clever turn, Karethas paints the ghul red. Rajali nee Undra, turns incoherent at the despised hue and flies at her ally with claws bared. She slashes wildly and misses. The startled ghul steps away from her and disappears from sight.

Varkata mumbles a summoning spell and looks across the pool of dust where the ghul was last seen and Undra appears to be regaining her composure. She gestures to the green field that entraps her. "The wizard magicked me, Uwad. Quick, kill him before he casts another spell!"

You archer has been around for a while. She was just having more fun tying up an old man.


Amir is finally freed and gets back on his feet. Kzrira takes her revenge on the corrupting and lying Undra, who now appears as a diamond-skinned shaitan glittering in the green aura of Karethas' entrapping spell. She shrieks as arrows pierce her unholy hide. A moment later, a swarm of glowing spheres fly toward her strafing her with radiant light. The dire div still has tricks to pull however, and dissolves into a swarm of horrible biting flies that turn upon the celestials. Archon#1-9, #2-8, #3-9 Karethas smells the charnal stink of the undead beast as it draws near, but the sudden appearance of the Archon at the wizard's side fouls the unseen ghul's attack!

Varkata- you are still on the opposite side of the pool from everyone else.

Karethas moves away from the horrid smell of the undead and turns to cast a spell upon the creature, but pauses. He glances at the biting flies. She has sown too much death and chaos for her to get away again. He turns Tempest towards the swarm and grimly tells the little genie inside, "Fry her!" Crackling arcs of electricity race along the length of the staff and shoot out towards the swarm.

Given that Varkata has an action after summoning, she'll rejoin the others rather than staring at nothing nervously. Fly is my friend.. Also, I believe it was established there's no wishwarp in here.

And yes, archons are immune to lightning. Swarms, less so.

Karethas- I will just say that I find it sad that the grand old fireball and lightning bolt spells of old have not kept up with hp inflation in d&d 3.* ...therefore add your level to the damage to make them a little more interesting.

Amir rolls out the carpet and jumps aboard while Kzrira points her arrow here and there looking for a decent target. Varkata helps them out. Drawing power from within and without the bottle, she reveals the mad ghul. Kzrira released her arrows and two pierce the undead shaitan's armor only to shatter upon its supernatural hide leaving only a scratch.

Karethas sends a bolt of lightning into the heart of the pestilent swarm and with a mighty CLAP!! The swarm collapses upon itself, raining down upon the fountain of dust as cinders. Crying out in fury, the ghul hurls itself at the wizard slashing and rending Karethas with terrible shard-like claws. Karethas-11, 9, 8 slash

Kzrira growls as the arrows disintegrate against the undead shaitan's stony flesh. Knowing that she is going to need her ever diminishing stock of adamantine arrows, she switches to the rare earth metal and continues to fire at the undead creature.

Two of the three shots strike home, one sinking deeply into the former genie lord, the other not much more than scratching its unliving flesh.


Amir flanks the undead Shaitan with the Archon. The expertly aimed blade strikes home scoring a small cut upon the unholy creature. Kzrira's arrows hiss by with at least two striking yet even adamantine weapons do little more damage than Amir's blade!

Well then, I don't think we have a way to make our cold iron weapons good aligned. So we may want to keep me standing long enough to take him down with Ball Lightning.

OK, missed a couple things- ghul has step up and bleed damage. Don't think step up is gonna matter.

Varkata joins the scrum though the black flame seems to do more damage than the edge of the heavy sword. The tiny Archons swarm about strafing the howling ghul with beams of holy light which scorch its rocky flesh. Uwad follows Karethas as the wizard tries to escape and drink a healing potion. The Hound Archon badly misses as the undead Shaitan lunges. A claw catches the wizard even as he drinks. Karethas-8 claw, 1 bleed. The second claw merely rips open the conjurer's robes, but a hungry bite that tears a sizable chunk of flesh and the adventurer falls. Karethas-12 bite

The darkness recedes as Varkata's healing energies wash over Karethas. He sees the battle raging over him. He fumbles for Tempest, points it at the ghul and unleashes another lightning bolt.

Amir flourishes Simin and wields the sharp blade well focusing on thrusting the thin blade into crevasses in the stony undead form. Uwad groans in pain! As Kzrira grows bigger, the small glowing orbs chip away at the desecrated genie. Varkata reaches down to restore Karethas with a blast of healing energy. Staff in hand, the wizard calls upon Tempest to unleash another bolt of electricity!

The once great Shaitan falls apart and chunks of charred malachite rattle onto the floor beside the pool of dust.

Karethas falls back to the ground with a groan, "Whatever happened in to the first rule?!? Nobody respects it anymore." He rolls over and looks at the smoking cinders that are all that remains of Undra. He smiles and rolls back to his back, "You didn't expect the Dimensional Anchor did you? And now you are finally dead!"

That's a nice start.

She starts looking around, "However, we're still trapped in here, and need to find a way out... and if we also find this false king's treasure room, so much the better."


Fortunately, the bottle does not take long to explore: It consists of three chambers. Opposite the Entry Arcade, the stairs lead up from the Pool of Dust to the Throne of the Fallen Shaitan.

This cavernous, columned hall echoes with every step. Once obviously an impressive audience chamber, an elegant stone throne is carved with images of a powerful mountain and rough serpents. The grandeur of the place is contrasted by squalid and terrible objects however. Dim torches hang in regular intervals around the room revealing iron cages which squat on stubby legs. Hunched forms huddle in the cages. Four crude tables- little more than stained planks bolted to sawhorses are central to the chamber. On one lies a hairless mass of flesh barely recognizable as a corpse its mottled skin mostly flensed away and its ribcage cracked open. Closer inspection reveals that the wretched thing still somehow lives as it twitches horribly!

Fully healed, Karethas sighs and gets up to move on, "I suppose we celebrate our victories once we have finally won through."

Seeing the horror on the table causes Karethas to step back involuntarily. "Varakata, can you help...it?" Though his better sense tells him to be cautious, Karethas cannot help but to move toward the cages to look for his friends.

Kzrira moves up behind Karethas, appalled, yet at the same time amazed that each horror the party runs into is worse than the horror before.

My god. Even after being destroyed, that horrid Div is able to continue to perform unthinkable acts.

With that, she turns back to where the Div was and makes sure that any remains are destroyed a second time. She also searches the Div and her undead compatriot for anything of value they might have.


As Karethas approaches a cage, the inhabitant suddenly turns and lunges though the wizard remains out of reach of the thin emaciated claw. The face of the creature is a taut mask and a long purple tongue flashes between the bars. Karethas stays well back from the ghoul hissing at him.

From another cage comes a voice that croaks his name. He turns to find this face yet unturned though the woman is filthy with matted hair and red pox cover her skin. A similarly diseased elf is beside her in the cage. Tears clear a trail down the dirty face as the woman sobs. "It's us, Almah and Faelar..."

Before exploring Amir makes it a point to collect Undra's ashes for future trophy making.

Upon discovery of their altered friends Amir offers no care to hide his tears as he moves closer the falls to his knees, Something can be done? Something can be done! What do we do? I have nothing...

The rogue clearly grapples with his lack of any true "power" in this moment. Despite his age and supposed wisdom he looks to Karethas and Varkata with glistening eyes, eager for any news of hope...

We will find a way to cure you, even if it means having to find an archmage or a senior priest of the Dawnflower. We will also find and exact vengeance upon those who have brought this pain upon you.

She then looks to Varkata.
This is our old bard companion Faelar and his lovely wife Almah. Do you have any healing that might cure them, or at least alleviate their pain until we can find magic to heal their wounds?
