Lightfooted Barra
"Works for me. I can take first watch; I'm still pretty fresh." Barra proceeds to take a seat on one of the more comfortable-looking chess pieces.
Ranek Clifton
"I'll take last watch - it will give me the chance to prepare my spells for the day."
Aldondrick Volharan
Aldon regards the dragons face in the wall with greater interest.
Manifest - Detect Psionics.
2nd Round: Number of different psionic auras and the strength of the most potent aura.
3rd Round: The strength and location of each aura. If the items or creatures bearing the auras are in line of sight, you can make Knowledge (psionics) checks to determine the discipline involved in each aura. (Make one check per aura; DC 15 + power level, or 15 + one-half manifester level for an effect that is not created by a power, such as that of a psionic item.) If the aura emanates from a psionic item, you can attempt to identify its properties (see Spellcraft).
Take 10 on the KNow Psionics check for a 20.
Ariyana Dawn
Samnell, did we find any tracks with our Survival checks?
Ari volunteers to take the last watch with Ranek. The man might know something about her former teacher since he's from Waterdeep.
Thurvek Noclan
If no one comes forward for Thurvek's last cure spell(s), the dwarf will find a nice rock to sleep on and rest.
Samnell
Samnell, did we find any tracks with our Survival checks?
Ari volunteers to take the last watch with Ranek. The man might know something about her former teacher since he's from Waterdeep.
I forgot.
There are tracks leading up to the corridor going north out of the room. None go to the other room to the west.
I'll get a map up tomorrow.
Aldondrick Volharan
Anything on my Detect Psionics power?
Ariyana Dawn
"There are tracks leading up to the corridor going north out of this room," Ari says after examining the ground with Marcus's aid. "Those on watch need to stay alert."
While Ari is anxious, the existence of tracks at least reassures her that someone or something besides themselves came this way. Perhaps tomorrow they'll find who left the tracks.
Aldondrick Volharan
"That voice may have resonated from this face. Telepathy powers emanate from it. Indeed we will need to be wary here for the night. I shall take one of the first watches".
Marcus of Torm
The tracks where most concerning. Marcus glancing at Lady Ariyana, before saying to everyone, "We definitely need double watches tonight. I'll keep watch with Barra, Aldondrick perhaps you can take the second watch? Lets pray for an uneventful evening!"
Aldondrick Volharan
Aldon shakes his head at Marcus, "I'd prefer first watch to get full rest to restore my mind and body".
Bolkvar Stonebeam
Bolkvar stared at Aldon for a long moment before shaking his head. Walking over to Thurvek he said:
”I’m thinking we will need to make a rotating watch schedule. Far too many here are trying to secure the easiest watch for themselves.”
Aldondrick Volharan
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Aldon mutters to himself,
Aldon Summons the remains of his power reserve to summon an Astral Construct.
He points to the Dragon head. "Destroy this visage ".
As the Construct sets to work, Aldon continues to focus his Detect Psionics on it hoping the battering will destroy it and the powers manifested within.
Bolkvar Stonebeam
Turning to Aldon, and without any embarrassment or hesitation, Bolkvar said
Thurvek Noclan
Bolkvar stared at Aldon for a long moment before shaking his head. Walking over to Thurvek he said:
Turning over to address his countryman and friend, Thurvek sighs.
Standing up, Thurvek address the 8 with a tone of authority.
"Alright, people, listen up! We have more than enough people for one person need only watch for one hour while the rest sleep. Go down the line, everyone gets rest. Now. Shall we go by age or my name?"
Aldondrick Volharan
Aldon turns to the dwarves as his construct hammers the wall, "The Clerics should have first or last watch, I will take second or second to last as I require rest to regain my powers".
Ariyana Dawn
Despite understanding everything the others are saying, regardless of the language they chose to use, Ari chooses to ignore that for now. Instead, she says in Illuskan, "We shouldn't belabor the issue, but I think our original plan was better. Four shifts of two people each. If we're worried about being attacked, we shouldn't leave watches to just one person. We can all get plenty of sleep still, regardless of which watch we take. Better to stick with two to a watch rather than risk one at a time. We can alternate or whatever you want, but one at a time is an unnecessary risk."
Marcus of Torm
Marcus frowned at Bolkvar, the dwarf was assuming too much. The party needed a watch order for tonight but thus far some had been reticent. Marcus was simply leading by example, somebody had to take first watch with Barra.
Bolkvar Stonebeam
Marcus I see what you are trying to do, but that isn’t leading by example. I’ve sadly had to keep watch before. First and last watches are the absolute best. Uninterrupted sleep! Middle watches are horrible. By the time you go to sleep your are woken up, and by the time you get back to sleep it’s time to get up. Personally, I loved first watch. When everyone else can’t fall asleep anyways, you just sit there. Then you get to sleep through the night. Pure awesome. Last watch is second favorite. But you’d probably be expected to get things ready for the day for last watch, making first just a bit better.
So, leading by example would be claiming middle watch.
Ranek Clifton
Ranek gives the Dwarves a level look and responds, "I volunteered to take the last watch because I need time to study my spellbooks in order to prepare my spells, which I cannot do until I have had a full night's rest. If I take a middle watch, we will have to delay an additional hour after my waking up for me to study and prepare my spells. As time is of the essence, it is more efficient for me to take last watch, so we can get moving right away. If you decide you are willing to wait for another hour after I wake up, I can take a middle watch, but we will have to wait for an hour after waking up if I do so. So, would you prefer to wait, or shall I take last watch?"
It was clear now that Bolkvar's ability with his Art was inborn, not taught. That a Dwarf had any ability with the Art was somewhat surprising - most Dwarves shunned the Art, or at the very least distrusted it. It was most unusual.
Marcus of Torm
I'm a bit taken aback by your reaction to Marcus suggestion. He doesn't care which watch he takes particularly, and neither do I as a player. I just want us to decide on a watch order, any watch order, without it taking the best part of a week :)
Aldondrick Volharan
As the group decides who goes to bed first through last, Aldon continues to watch as his Construct attempts to dismantle the dragon face.
Hakon "Tormveir" Hakonson
Hakon follows Alondrick's example and stands vigilant against threats.
Marcus of Torm
Ok then. I do agree that's a very dwarven reaction.
Samnell
Aldon's construct forms and strikes the dragon's face as bid. Its first few blows do no more than dent the aged copper. The last crushed it in. As the metal collapsed a topaz light flashed bright, like a dagger thrust into the eye and met by something just as sharp thrusting out from within the company's skulls.
The uncontrollable compulsion to flee the chamber and cast themselves into the torrent plunging down below struck Hakon and Thurvek. It defied thought and restraint. Nothing was more important than hurling themselves into the water and feel it rush across their flesh as they fell through the air. As the Dragon spoke, so it must Be.
Everyone has two rounds to stop them before they get to the edge and jump. Probably to their deaths.
[ooc]Will DC 16[/dice]
Aldondrick: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Ariyana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Bolkvar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Hakon: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Lightfooted Barra: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Marcus: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Ranek: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Thurvek: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Ariyana Dawn
Ari looks over at Hakon and Thurvek as the pair begin rushing toward the torrent. She thinks she knows a fraction of how they feel. Unlike herself, though, the pair seem to have been unable to resist the pull of the Art.
She rushes over to whichever of the pair is the furthest away from the group, knowing she can move faster than most, and tries to restrain the man from taking the plunge.
1d20 ⇒ 6 Not sure what you're looking for here, so I'll just make the roll and you can apply whichever modifier makes the most sense. I'm guessing either a Reflex Save or a Grapple Check. For either one of those, the modifier is +5.
Lightfooted Barra
Barra leaps off the rook and sprints towards the two of them. "Stop them!" he yells, as he dives into a sliding tackle to try and trip the straggler.
Using Encouraging Roar - +2 to Attack and Damage rolls.
Trip: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Aldondrick Volharan
Al attempts to Grapple Hakon -
CMB Grapple 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
The Astral Construct tries to get in front and if one manages to jump, grabs them it has Fly as Menu A ability.
Bolkvar Stonebeam
Thurvek Grapple: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
As he was in the process of meditating, Bolkvar was the last to his feet when the yelling started. He desperately rushed to his kinsman to try and hold him back...not the easiest of things considering that stopping a determined dwarf from doing something is a Herculean task.
Ranek Clifton
CMB Grapple vs Thurvek, Encouraging Roar: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 3 + 2 = 22
Seeing Hakon and Thurvek start running towards the falls, Ranek assumes Aldon has Hakon well in hand and launches himself at Thurvek, trying to stop the Dwarf from potentially leaping to his doom.
Thurvek Noclan
[dice=CMB Grapple vs Thurvek, Encouraging Roar]1d20+3+2
Seeing Hakon and Thurvek start running towards the falls, Ranek assumes Aldon has Hakon well in hand and launches himself at Thurvek, trying to stop the Dwarf from potentially leaping to his doom.
That and Ranke been wanting to take a shot at Thurvek for a while now. Also course, Thurvek rolls a 1 on his check.
Ranek Clifton
No, no, Ranek would never go out of his way to take a shot at Thurvek. In addition to being rather divisive to the group, he's fairly sure the Dwarf could take him in a straight fight.
Of course, that being said, he might enjoy tackling him a bit more than he should.
Marcus of Torm
Grapple: Hackon: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Marcus raced after Hackon and tried to tackle his feet, but he ended up face first in the dirt. He cried "Hackon!", picked himself up and chased after determined to save his comrade! He needn't have worried for Aldon's construct body checked the man.
Samnell
Thurvek & Ranek need to get a room. Turn the lantern low. Put on some Bardy White and bust out the combat maneuvers.
The company leaped into action, Bolkvar, Ranek, Marcus, and Ari all seizing Thurvek. The dwarf fell to the ground as Hakon knocked Aldon aside and continued his mad plunge. Just as he reached the ledge, the astral construct swooped down and caught him.
Paladin and dwarf both struggled for a few breaths before the overwhelming urge that took them faded away.
So we have two taking a runner. Hakon & Thurvek.
Ari: trying to grapple Thurvek with a 13
Barra: buffing everyone
Aldon: Hakon with a 21 and Construct on catch duty
Bolkvar: grapple Thurvek with a 12
Ranek: grapple Thurvek with a 22
Marcus: grapple Hakon with a 15
I think you all want Hakon to die. :)
Aldondrick Volharan
"Everyone better? Can we finish destroying this psionic trap now and get some sleep?"
Thurvek Noclan
As Thurvek found himself on the bottom of a dogpile, the cleric had some remarks to express.
"Will you get the hell offa me!" I"m fine! I'm FINE!"
"Everyone better? Can we finish destroying this psionic trap now and get some sleep?"
As his fellows let him up, Thurvek immediately reached for his warhammer and walked toward the dragon head.
"Me first!"Warhammer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Dmg.: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Ranek Clifton
Ranek had to admit he found a certain amount of joy in tackling the Dwarf - his obnoxious stubbornness and irascibility had been getting under the magic-user's skin. Letting the Dwarf up once he shook off the effects of the compulsion, he said, "Now, perhaps. Previously you were thinking of leaping off the waterfall, which likely wouldn't have been good for your health."
As Aldon asks about destroying the trap, Ranek watches as Thurvek runs up to smash it with his warhammer. Maybe letting out a little frustration on that will brighten his mood.
Aldondrick Volharan
Aldon directs the Astral Construct to give one last slam before it dissipates into the ether.
Thurvek Noclan
Thurvek frowns over the remains of the dragon head, making a mental note to destroy any more he comes across.
Turning from the destroyed psychic trap, the cleric huffs, "Good night."
Marcus of Torm
Marcus regards the ruined draconic face for a long moment before turning round with a sign, "That was unpleasant... Something tells me where there's one there will be more. Lets hope none are more potent than that!"
Unless plans have changed I think it's still Marcus and Barra's turn for watch.
While the others bed down Marcus stands guard attentively.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
