In 4121 AR, the desert dwarves of the Barrier Wall Mountains sealed the famed Tar-Urkatha mine abruptly, saying only that one of the richest platinum mines in history had played out. Nearly six centuries later, the truth rises from the darkness.

"Tis be da dead!" Jerrand says raising his shield high and moving to engage the horrors.

Actions: Total DEF (AC 21), then move to D-5 drawing an AoO

Cortos the Unbroken wrote:
Also, remember that my initiative bonus is +3 while underground. This doesn't change the order of this combat, but keep that in mind next time you roll.

I'm gonna say we're not technically underground here- the shrine is above ground just partly covered in sand. i'll make a note though and you'll get plenty of use of that once we're in the mines. Just waiting for Shirish and I'll update the map.

Shirish pulls her longsword as part of a move action and five-foots to D3 and attacks the slave at C2 that threatens the lithe man who is playing with jars in the middle of combat.

Shirish Longsword Attack w/+2 vs Undead 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 if she hits she will deal 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 damage.

Chitleen shouts out his request leaving Cortos battling to restrain himself, unfortunately elves touching him pushes him over the edge and he moves in attacking the dead slave around the corner. Flustered, he misses badly.

The Vudran elf launches his bomb striking the dead man and splashing the others although the one in back manages to avoid most of the effect. Shirish steps forward cleaving through melting skull to bring down one of the dead things. Its companion slams her with a powerful blow Shirish-7 hp bludgeon. The long dangling black..tongue? that hangs from its lower jaw whips out at the Shirish just missing as she dodges in time.

The two remaining creatures move in on the dwarves. The well protected priest easily weathers the assault behind his shield, but the flustered barbarian is hit hard by a flailing limb.Cortos-10 hp bludgeon The black tendril-like tongue narrowly misses him as he recovers from the blow.

"What in the Nine Hells are these things?" Shirish yells as she deftly dodges a disgusting black tongue.

Daeron takes a step into the doorway whilst drawing his bow, loosening off an arrow at the monster North of Jerrand.

ranged attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

He looks at the creatures attacking them, racking to put a name to the beings.

If I do not recall what it is, it may be undead, alas my studies were sorely lacking in this regard.

Daeron- They do not resemble anything you know of under earth or sky. Note that without the Precise Shot feat, you need to take -4 to your attack roll for firing into combat or you risk hitting a companion.

Daeron's shot bounces off of Jerrand's helm startling the dwarf.

Dwarf Barbarian 2

ARGH! What the hell was that Daeron? Stop giving me bad luck! Cortos attacks the creatured that damaged him.

Male Elf Wizard 3 (Transmuter-Enhancement) / AC13->17(mage armor) / HP23->full

Forgot about the firing in melee rules, sorry.

Well, rage-warrior, you can rub off whatever you think is on you with yon dwarf priest. While you are at it ask does he know what we are fighting?

Being out of the main melee, Daeron calls out over the din.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Round 2:
Stepping forward, Chitleen lashes out with his talwar...
Longsword: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Shirish:

Cortos crushes another foe and Chitleen joins Shirish in her attack on this unknown form of walking dead. He misses, but his attack serves to distract it so she can strike it down with a powerful blow from her blade.

Jerrand up. One foe left.

Grand Lodge

Stepping around the beast to leave room for Cortos to step up Jerrand swings as he moves. The dwarf moves to slow and the creature manages to dodge the fearsome hammer strike.

Male Elf Wizard 3 (Transmuter-Enhancement) / AC13->17(mage armor) / HP23->full

Daeron does have dancing lights memorized.

Keeping his position, Daeron lets another arrow loose on the remaining undead, trying hard not to hit his allies in the melee.

ranged attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 4 = 14

A feathered shaft appears in the dead half-orc's gut a moment before it falls to Cortos' axe.

End of combat. Daeron- go ahead and describe the form of your dancing lights for descriptive purposes.

Dwarf Barbarian 2

Cortos drops out of rage, and rests with his back on the column of the room. He's badly hurt, and examines his wound. That was too careless. One of these days, ye gonna die and ye would have bloody deserved it.
I have 6 hp left out of 16. I can keep on going for a while, but spare an healing for me later, please.

Grand Lodge

Jerrand checks the corpses and doesn't see that Cortos needs a little attention. Only way I know he wouldn't help.

"Do nay know wha' they be. Cept dead once more." the dwarf states bluntly.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Sheathing his talwar temporarily, Chitleen moves to the bodies of the slaves in turn - checking for possessions or anything untoward...

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21 Didn't add the sight based bonus here

"Their origin is beyond my knowledge also... but no matter. Now that the way is clear we should press on." before pausing and looking at Shirish and Cortos "You bleed..." he states simply.

The slaves weren't terribly well dressed when they were living and now their clothes have become rags. They possess nothing else. Their lower jaw has been broken away and the black tentacle-like tongue appears to originate from the roof of their mouth.

Jerrand- you do have knowledge religion for IDign undead.

Grand Lodge

Hmm.. thought I passed that by since my skill points are so low. Guess not. Here goes nothing.

Know Roll: ID undead 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Male Elf Wizard 3 (Transmuter-Enhancement) / AC13->17(mage armor) / HP23->full

Daeron wills the small humanoid shaped glow to edge nearer the fallen undead. Using the light provided, the mage inspects the corpses wondering if the half-orcs are known to the free warrior.

Let me at least see what are the perils of the place if we are to go further, should I better prepare for what is to come.

More pleasant to see your handiwork in color is it not?

After getting his satisfaction, Daeron remains at the rear and keeps his spell effect to avoid any surprises from behind.

Dwarf Barbarian 2

Aye Chitleen, I do. Nothin' new under the sun, then...
Let's go on, same marching order as before.

Jerrand recognizes that these undead moved with the same jerky awkwardness of a typical zombie, however, they were less resilient and much quicker than a typical spell animated corpse. Then there's the wierd black tentacle emerging from the mouth which he can't explain.

The gallery of basalt pillars opens in the center of the 60 foot wide chamber and another opening leads to the west (top of the map).

perception check for the leaders.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24 - extra 1 for traps

The next chamber resembles the last, but is half as deep. Directly opposite the entrance is another alcove with a statue. This statue resembles a featureless humanoid five feet tall and shaped from obsidian glass. Faint motes of light float in the black glass statue in spiral and disk shapes.

Upon entering the room a glowing hieroglyph appears overhead and the statue speaks in Ancient Osiriani. DC 12 Will save versus a spell.

Eh, I've seen better...

Oh boy, a will save! My very bestest one!!

Shirish Will Saving Throw 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Shirish stands still and gazes at the shiny sparkly thing. "It's... full of stars."

Okay, that's my last post. Running out of juice on the lappy without a charger. Will be back to regular posting tuesday, maybe. Depends on how hubby helps me recuperate.

Male Elf Wizard 3 (Transmuter-Enhancement) / AC13->17(mage armor) / HP23->full

Will: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 2 = 22 vs Enchantment? for the +2

I'll try and throw some Fort saves your way soon, Shirish ; ) wow, only the front two fail...

Chitleen and Shirish suddenly stop and stare blankly at the statue barely aware of anything around them. Unfortunately, two more zombies take advantage of the situation and dash from behind the pillars to attack the unprepared adventurers.

Initiative rolls:

Chitleen 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 4 = 17
Cortos 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Daeron 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Jerrand 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

So Shirish and Chitleen took a penalty to init and still aced it. They need to make another Will save (DC 12) this round to act before the zombies actually hit them.

Male Elf Wizard 3 (Transmuter-Enhancement) / AC13->17(mage armor) / HP23->full

More foul undead. Expected in a crypt, I suppose. How silly of me.

Rueing the fact he missed to memorize Disrupt Undead, Daeron casts Dancing lights in the form of 4 orbs to spread out into the corridor before readying his bow.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 Nailed it :P

Snapping out of his stupor at the approach of the walking dead, Chitleen steps forward and delivers another vial of burning acid.

Just don't touch, Cortos...he don't like nobody touching him.

"And I don't like nobody touching my stuff. So just keep your meat-hooks off. If I catch any of you guys in my stuff, I'll kill you. Also, I don't like nobody touching me. Now, any of you homos touch me, and I'll kill you."
Sergeant Hulka: Lighten up, Francis.

Shirish Will Saving Throw vs DC 12 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 all right! Time to throw some die, then gotta take the dog out.

Shirish Charges undead mook on the left.

Shirish Longsword + Charge vs Undead 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 = 23 if it hits she will deal 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 damage. Dammit, did that elf dude touch me, too. C'mon, now...

Quickly returning from their journey across the universe, Shirish and Chitleen snap into action at the appearance of the black tongued zombies. Shirish charges her former fellow slave hacking off an arm as Chitleen's bomb strikes the column spraying the dead thing with corrosive chemicals.

Daeron's glowing spheres illuminate the chamber revealing strange frescos painted on the walls surrounding the obsidian statue.

just waiting for Francis, um Cortos.

Dwarf Barbarian 2

For some reason I can't see the map so I'll attack the nearest enemy.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d12 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Cortos pushes past Chitleen to attack the smoldering zombie. His axe swing falls short, but he manages to dodge the haphazard swings of the dead man and the darting tongue.

On the other side of the room, the one-armed ex-slave stumbles as it weakly swings with its remaining arm, however the long black tongue dangling from its jaw latches onto Shirish's arm. Its slimy cold touch leaves her feeling draining and weakened as if it is drawing her energy away. Shirish-2 Str.

Chitleen hustles around the pillar to flank the creature with Cortos.

Double move to E,16

Shirish Round 2

Shirish continues to hound the undead before her, having made no attempt to move, she now has access to her full round attack. Unfortunately, though her movements are unpracticed and Shirish's swings are wild.

Shirish Longsword TWF, Favored Enemy 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 if it hits she will deal 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 slashing damage.

Shirish Shield Bash TWF, Favored Enemy 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 if it hits she will deal 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 bludgeoning damage.

Shirish- math check:
longsword- +1 BAB,+3 Str(@16 from Str dmg),+2 Fav En, -2 TWF = +4
Shield, Hvy- +1 BAB, +3 Str, +2 Fav En, -4 TWF (non-light weapon)= +2
Damage mod- +3 Str,+2 Fav= +5
Am I missing anything?

Jerrand and Chitleen hustles into flanking positions as Shirish manages to shake her chill enough to smash into the dead slave with her shield. The battered corpse finally drops with Daeron's arrow embedded in its eye socket leaving Cortos struggling with the last zombie creature.

Cortos up.

According to my husband, who is a long time GM, if you use a weapon that is not light, you get a -4 penalty to your two handed attacks. Shirish is using a Longsword, which is martial, and a heavy wooden shield. Also, Shirish's strength is 18, which is a +4 Mod, not +3

Dwarf Barbarian 2

Here goes nothin'...
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d12 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Fickle fortune has turned on Cortos as the undead lunges under the powerful axe swing. Its heavy arm strikes Cortos squarely on the head as its long, cold black tongue laps over the falling dwarf.

Double move to D-10. Darn this room isn't made for short legs.
