Heroes of Dreamlands
The ending of one quest – the start of a new one…

On the summit of the tallest cliff was a chamber fashioned of ice and clouds. In the center of the chamber was a rare crystal, fashioned of the element of Air. And there – guarding the crystal – was the dreaded Red Wizard, who had troubled the heroes for so long.

After a long and grueling fight, the Red Wizard’s allies were destroyed. His Sky Pirates were defeated and their Airship captured. The mysterious Earth Wizard who traveled with the Sky Pirates was defeated and the Heroes discovered a nest of eggs belonging to Giant Eagles, which they managed to tame.

Between the two cliffs was a resting place for pegasi, and guarding the bones of one of the fallen flying horses was two more pegasi, who two of the Heroes befriended. On the ground was a company of desert warriors with long spears from across the sea, who had an elephant that they used to crush many of the heroes into the ground – but the elephant was freed and the desert warriors defeated.

For now the Heroes have accomplished many great things, but now they are resting and studying the treasure which they found. Their plan is to return to their kingdom, take the treasure they have found and establish a kingdom for themselves.

With so much treasure, power and experience, they are all confident that nothing can stand against them.

At least – nothing they have met so far…

The Heroes have continued their journeys.

Some of them went to face new threats, including discovering a strange set of Temples; one to Life and one to Doom. After that, they were given clues to find a haunted mansion.

They beat the enemies inside and were rewarded by a library of ancient magical books. After studying a crystal ball, they found that it was used to communicate with creatures who live under ground in a maze of tunnels and - according to notes in the mansion - were planning on digging up to the surface to attack various towns all over your kingdom.

As the Heroes decide what to do next, a sudden noise startles them from outside of the mansion coming from the trees nearby...

Female Water Elf 9th Level Nature Healer

"Greetings, good Heroes," says a voice.

Looking up, you see it is the same Water Elf you had helped earlier. Now that the ghosts at the mansion have been destroyed, it seems she has come to find you.

"I am Penelope... I'm sure you remember, but many of you helped me against that satyr near the Doom Temple. You have defeated the ghosts in the mansion; may I ask you what you found inside?" she says.

Penelope turns to Ashley.

"I remember your gift to me earlier. If there is anything more I can do to help, please tell me and I will do what I can to aid you and your friends."

Hello Penelope! Inside we found a crystal ball which showed us images of an underground base of the the red faced underground creatures. We believe that these creatures are trying to attack our villages. We found a map of these creatures underground tunnels. The crystal ball is used to communicate with the red faced creatures. We also found a magical map that shows us secret places in the World. We know that these creatures are hurt by bright light and we also know a cave entrance to the tunnel. We appreciate the offer and would need your help in fighting the creatures. Can you please help?

Thanks!

Penelope's eyes widen as she sees Ayaan approach her.

"Oh my!" she says in surprise.

"Is this man your friend?" she asks Ashley, not entirely sure of the stranger.

Ayaan - remember; Penelope never met you In-Game, so she is a little surprised at you, but she's willing to trust you if people she knows says you're a good person.

Meanwhile, as it seems Ayaan may be friends with Ashley, Penelope bows somewhat gracefully before Ayaan.

"If you are a friend of the Lady Ashley, I will trust you," she says.

She thinks a moment about Ayaan's information.

"From what you tell me, the creatures you fought were probably a mix of humans and goblins, or more likely orcs... Some people would call such monster a "Half-Orc"."

"Orcs do not like bright light at all, it makes them sick and dizzy in it. But Orcs are tough and very good at fighting... If orcs and humans could be mixed then a creature who could be very good at fighting would also be able to endure more light than regular orcs could - I fear this is what may have happened," she says nervously.

"There is indeed a cave near us. Orcs have come out of it at night to cut down trees and damage the forest just for amusement. I do not like orcs, but I am afraid to go in to their caves..."

"If I show you the caves, will you go inside? If you do, I warn you to be careful. Such caves may be very dangerous. Only true heroes will have a chance at surviving the mazes of the tunnels, the possible traps, and the dangers you find underground!"

She is willing to take you all, of course, but wants to be sure you feel it is safe to go there right away, or if you need to prepare, first...

After all, you could also return to the Tavern of Master Thorn and buy some potions and other gear before heading in. Or you could go now; what would you like to do next?

Female Human Universal Healer 2/Explorer 2

Yes he is my friend and thank you for the information Penelope.

"You are quite welcome, Lady Ashley. Of course, I will show you the way to the caves if you want to go there first. But if you would like to go instead to a town to buy supplies first, I will wait for you here until you return. Do not fear; with the ghosts of the haunted mansion destroyed, I should be quite safe until you come back. Unless you wish to go now?"

Would you like to go now, or go back to town and try to get supplies first? As soon as I know which decision you and Ayaan want, I'll move you forward :)

Hello my name is Lorenzo and I am an ally of Ayaan.

Penelope looks at Lorenzo with surprise. Glancing at Ashley and Ayaan, she realizes Lorenzo must also have unique skills to defeat these enemies.

"Oh! Another mysterious person has arrived? How many are you heroes? Hmm.. perhaps I shall never know. Yet I am glad you are here to fight these monsters! But before you do, do you wish to go to the cave first, or go get supplies first?" she asks the party.

You can go to the cave first, or you can go back and find Master Thorn and get some supplies before your cave mission; of course, this reminds me - does everyone have their "sheets" - which include Mana, Spells, Health and other stuff? The answer is - probably not, because Mister Joe hasn't provided all of that stuff for everyone to look over... (oh that crazy Mister Joe!)

Nevertheless, it shall be put up soon on the Google Classroom for everyone to read over and decide on. This will include (also) more rules. For now - if people would like to get gold and or other treasure, I do reward players who interact well with each other :)

In this case Ayaan knows Ashley, but she does not know Lorenzo - perhaps you guys could introduce yourself (as in; write what your characters would say to each other if meeting for their first time?). Again; Mister Joe does reward good writing/storytelling!

Finally, when we have the information out, we'll need to update our "Profiles". When you click on someone's name and hit "profile" it will show you information about them that you each write - this should include things like Health, Mana, and so on, so we know how everyone is doing. More on that to come soon, though!

Once that is done, we'll also have the option of including new pics we each find for our characters (see Penelope's profile and you'll find a link to a pic of what she would look like). Also - soon we'll have our first combat map up so you guys can get into some action!

Okay, more to come soon. Meantime, don't forget to share your powers, that could be handy later when you go into the cave :)

Female Human Universal Healer 2/Explorer 2

I vote on going to get supplies first. What do you want to do Aayan?

Female Water Elf 9th Level Nature Healer

Penelope looks at Ashley and then Ayaan.

While waiting to hear what Ayaan might say, and to also learn more about the mysterious Lorenzo, Penelope leans in close to Ashley and speaks to her quietly so as not to interrupt -

"This cave will likely have many threats; be careful when you go inside..."

Master Thorn strokes his chin thoughtfully.

"Your appearance reminds me of the good Ayaan... Yet I deem you are one skilled in crafting many things. If you are indeed good at making things then I believe this will be useful in the caves below," Master Thorn says after studying the gear on the Tinker.

"I know you well! You and your companions aided me against that foul Wizard in the red robes. I hope you dispatched him; he was a villain I do not wish to see again..." Master Thorn responded as the company decided what to do next.

"That said; what are your plans? Will you gather more supplies, or head in the caves at once?" he asks the group, curious to know what they will do next.

"Or do you wish to wait for more Heroes to join you before you decide?"

animalover wrote:

Thorn nods.

"If you wish to buy more supplies then that can easily be arranged. Naturally I will have gear and potions to show you soon, but I believe you have more Heroes who will join. No doubt that they shall appear very soon..." he responds.

Female Human Level 8 fire wizard

I agree with Ashley. We should get mana and health poitions because there are multiple floors to the mines. And sorry Master Thorn, the red wizard is still just barley alive. I think he might have made a deal with the half-orcs.

Master Thorn nods his head.

"This is a good plan; after all, if you enter the caves it would be good to have potions to refresh your health and your mana. After all; the caves might be very deep. You may be forced to go down level after level, fighting increasingly more difficult challenges and dangers and all the while you would be wearing down your mana and health until you were nearly empty when you encountered the final boss."

"Indeed, I can't imagine any hero being foolish enough to enter such dangers as these caves without preparing properly," he adds, his voice not sounding sarcastic at all...

"Meanwhile, is there a way to find this Red Wizard, given that he is now "barely alive"?" he asks the group.

Meshidawg wrote:
barley alive!!!

Thorn turns a glance at the barbarian.

"I do not find this a laughing matter... this Red Wizard is dangerous! He could come back and do great harm; stealing the treasure of a hero, destroying both ships and property; even causing mighty heroes to perish and have to begin again - only, perhaps, with far less experience than they had before they were defeated," he adds dryly.

"If you had defeated him properly then perhaps he would not still be a threat. But then, that is just my opinion," Thorn adds.

He turns back to Ashley and Athena.

"I will have a full list of things I can sell you both soon. Also, to aid you, I am preparing a letter to a friend of mine near the coast. When you return from this mission he will already have done what he can to collect strange and unusual creatures. After all, I know many of you want pets to aid you, though I myself do not have them."

"If you manage to survive the caves and return to the surface then head for the town by the coast; you will find many unusual things for sale there, including many strange and exotic pets," he adds politely.

Ashley, I am Neha. I vaguely remember you from summer sacc, but you may not remember me. I am a level 9 fire wizard, and an ally of both Lorenzo and Ayaan. I hope I can help you on your quest against the half-orcs. I have fought these creatures before, and I have some useful information. As for Master Thorn, I have met him before.

Master Thorn turns a shrewd glance at Ignis Fotia.

"Ah yes, Lady Ignis," he says with a droll tone.

"When we first met I recall that you were a novice with some modest skill at conjuring flames and some such - but now your reputation has grown with your power."

He pauses as he leans back in his chair, studying Ignis thoughtfully.

"Rumor has it that you and your allies were able to defeat a legion of soldiers; including their commander - a man who rode on a full-grown red dragon, and now that he has been defeated you have elected to build yourselves a mighty tower."

He folds his arms and leans forward.

"You and your allies may have driven him back, but he was not defeated. While you work on the tower I would advise those of you who are not so interested in building to send out scouts to discover more details. Surely an army so large as the one who assailed you will not merely fade away... Nay; I would guess that even now he is studying your work and is preparing another assault, though - perhaps - that assault shall not happen until your tower is complete and they can claim your tower for their own."

He reaches his hand across to a plate covered with figs, dates and almonds and takes a few, offering the plate of snacks to you as he considers things.

"Your tower may be strong when it is built, and the best army may not be able to destroy the walls if you have built them well. Yet there are other weapons besides steel and magic an enemy may use against a strong place... weapons such as hunger," he adds, then takes another fig as he eyes Ignis for a moment.

"Once you have your tower built I would strongly advise you to build farms, and some sort of defense for them. The next army may not even bother to attack your tower; instead, they may simply surround you and wait until all your food is eaten and you have nothing left."

"Building farms next, and a place to store the food - if you cannot do so in the tower - would be a good plan, too."

Penelope watches Master Thorn and leans in to Ignis.

"He is right to suggest farms, for they can produce plenty of food. Yet to my mind there is always the advantage of building your tower near to docks. Docks mean you can build fishing boats, that can be useful in getting food, and docks will make it easier to get business through trade."

"Plus, do you not already have friends who are water wizards? Surely they will be pleased to have docks near a tower," she says.

Master Thorn looks at Penelope and snorts at her comment.

"Huh! Your friend the Water Elf is ever eager to have your tower near the sea, for it is clear she can think of the advantages of the water, yes. But remember; if your tower is near water that means an enemy can attack you both from the land, and they can bring in a navy to attack your tower, too."

"If you would build a tower near the water - and docks - make sure you have at least one warship built to protect you from a naval attack," he adds as he takes a mug and pours himself a cool beverage and then drinks deeply from it.

Female Human Level 10 fire wizard

"Master Thorn, Penelope is right to suggest a tower near the docks. We have a water wizard on our team as powerful as I, and we were already planning to build our tower near the docks. Penelope, I would be nice to have you help protect us. Would you consider that? Also, we have more than enough gold and riches to build a warship, and tinkers on our team,"Ignis says in a hurry, as though impatient

Master Thorn raises his eyebrows in surprise.

"Oh were you?" he says.

"Have you prepared yourself from any possible combat once the tower is completed? After all, how do you know that your tower will not be attacked and taken from you as soon its built?" he adds.

"After all, were you not already assaulted by a minor army with a red dragon? And now that army has fled and you think you are successful in beating it back, but what if it returns with a bigger and more powerful army? What if it is just hiding from you and waiting for the tower to be built and then take it over?"

"Since you asked, yes I would! If an enemy attacks you from the sea, I will do what I can to bring my allies to help you - since you asked."

"Tell me, Archmage Fotia, do you know any nice water wizards?" she asks with a curious voice.

"Is he here? I do not see him... Will he say anything here?" she asks.

Ben needs to make a character at some point - also; does the Combat Map work? If so, let me know if you can see it - we can start doing combat if it does...

She looks at you.

"Well, even if I do not see him, you are still a good friend. Your friends are building a tower that stretches high into the sky and built by the coast, yet you are a Fire Wizard... Where would you build your own home if you could pick any place?" she prompts.

Ignis Fotia wrote:
Also yes the combat map does work. Is the paizo team still going to battle the half-orcs? Because if we are almost everyone already knows everything about that quest.

Haven't updated the Paizo site much as you're the only one posting. I think I'll probably use this for "Side-Quests" - so players who want to play and are excited to play, yet feel overwhelmed with big groups, can play a smaller game with only a few players who they like to play with. That way you can play with maybe 2 or 3 other friends a mission when you go to do a Wizard Quest specifically to find new Familiars - while others might want to go on a Warrior Quest to find some new magic weapon?

Either way is possible; but remember; at this point Thorn is suggesting that if you build a Tower that big that it is possible that an even LARGER army will attack it and just take it over for their own.

But I'm sure that's probably wrong ;)

Female Human Level 10 fire wizard

"If I could choose any place I would probably choose the fire realm... But alas, I am part of a team, and we have to base our decisions off of everyone's thoughts,"says Ignis, answering Penelope's question.

I know, he does. I will ask him to do it during tabletop HOD.Also yes the combat map does work. Is the paizo team still going to battle the half-orcs? Because if we are almost everyone already knows everything about that quest.

Thorn smiles at Ignis.

"You are wise not to travel there yet; such a place is for beings that are made of fire and flame. I deem you are not strong enough for such trials - yet - but that does not mean you could not visit such a realm..."

He glances at the western sky, studying the dark red light of the sinking sun.

"Perhaps it would be best if you found a group of other wizards who desired to seek the Plane of Fire - if you found them then you might visit there, for a while, and see if you could explore a small amount. If it became too dangerous you could return, of course."

"Yet I deem this would be a quest better suited for a smaller group; one who is not concerned with matters of large combats in the field."

"If you are indeed interested in such a task, speak to your allies and find a trusted group of friends and - when the time is right - we can attempt to create a magical portal which will take you and your allies there to explore."

"Those who do not wish to come may remain and attend to other matters, or, perhaps, they may wish to advance to quests more to their own tastes?" he adds.

Ignis Fotia wrote:

Hmmm... So far I think only the cool people check this thread ;)

But seriously, now that the Combat Map is up and your tower is almost finished I'm going to add a Feature that will allow you to teleport people magically do different places for "Small Quests". This way smaller groups can play the game and it will mean you can do "side quests" - I think more people will like it when they understand how this feature works.

We do need to use this more for Winter/Summer people; that's one of the main reasons I wanted it up - specifically so players can make posts when they weren't at our school - that way we can have players participating even if they're absent/sick/graduated or just somewhere else.

Also, another feature for this board for us is the code for Dice, which I'll show you here:

Master Thorn watches the water, suddenly, a sea snake slithers out of the water to attack the party.

Yet with a wave of his hand, Master Thorn calls out with a deep voice in the language of magic..

"Fulgar percutiens!"

Language of Magic:

- Lightning Strike -

A bolt of Electricity shoots from his hand at the Sea Snake -

Lightning Bolt -
3d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) + 4 = 14

The snake is hit by the bolt and is destroyed...

Master Thorn looks at Ignis.

"If another attacks, I will leave that one to you," he says with a dry smile.

Master Thorn thinks a moment.

"No, most of my colleagues are not Fire Wizards."

"Yet this Lorenzo you speak of - if he is willing, then you should invite him."

He glances at the sea thoughtfully, then the tower you are working on.

"Meanwhile, you do not need to take Fire Wizards only; surely there are others that may wish to travel with you in this realm? Perhaps a Tinker who might be able to craft armor to defend against flames; or perhaps an Explorer who could not only heal your wounds, but would be interested in exploring new realms?"

He shrugs.

"Who knows - yet I warn you; such a place will be challenging. Whoever you ask, makes sure they are able to survive the challenges. If you take a beginner they may find things too difficult..."
