Artoria |
So you're saying that silk worm has five hit die or more and/or is a cleric of an evil god and/or an outsider and/or undead? :P
Also, I was using the targeted move action version of Detect Evil that paladins get, so I technically only would get info on the old woman, nothing else ;)
PS: Yes, I realize you were joking (probably).
Sarephta Nigh |
With so many confusing leads, Sarephta wasn't sure what to pursue next.
"Do you know where Mister Kyle was going when he bumped into you, or where he was coming from? Perhaps we was very distracted by something..."
Artoria |
I trust Viorec's lead the most.
Artoria |
Artoria Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Archimedes Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Artoria stares down the woman.
"What are you hiding? We require your honesty."
Uthred Wartooth |
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"...Uthred laughs at her comment...then regains his composure... "Apologies for the outburst."
Aryn Seavon |
@GM: No, she's not named Kail. Lyssa was left with the monks for different reasons, and she hasn't one bit of interest in the family that left her. The monk I now play is also a lot more friendly :P
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Not entirely sure of what it was that Artoria sensed, Aryn awaits her reaction to the old woman.
No idea what I'm missing, but I doubt that eye candy stuff was all if Artoria mentions the woman's hiding something...
Artoria |
Artoria remains stoic at the old woman's admission. She even gives Uthred a sharp look for giving such an inappropriate outburst before returning her attention to the woman.
"Really, now? I was under the impression he was rather overweight and with the leathery complexion of a man that spends too much time in his cups."
Artoria leans forward, glaring at the old woman with an intense judgment.
"Is there anything else you would like to tell us?"
Chyrone |
Where too next?
DOOOOOOOOOMMMM!
The ferry was next on your list. So that's where the gang's off to next.
Two ramshackle shacks flank the Lampblack here, sheds to house a flat-bottom ferry. Tightly drawn ropes cross the river, part of a cranked pulley system that draws the barge across the black water.
A crooked-backed, thin-haired man stands watch on it.
"Huh? Who goes there?"
Sarephta Nigh |
"We are investigators from the Pathfinder Society. I am Sarephta Nigh...a cleric of Iomedae. Who are you?"
diplomacy, touch of glory: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8
Aryn Seavon |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
"My name's Aryn Seavon," Aryn replies to the man.
"As my colleague said, we're with the Pathfinder Society. We were sent to Ravenmoor to collect taxes and to find a man by the name of Elias Kyle, who is a tax collector. He was sent to Ravenmoor before us and has gone missing. We'd like to know if you've seen him during his stay in Ravenmoor, and if there's anything you could tell us about him?"
Sense Motive, for his reaction and the way he acts: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Chyrone |
"Kyle huh, the previous outsider, the city man. I do recall him coming to town. But...he sure didn't leave via my ferry."
The man spits onto the grass and sneezes.
"Darn allergy....."
The man's truthful, but man is he indifferent to the disappearance.
He leans on an oar, staring into the distance.
"I can imagine.....if mister Kyle has gone missing, he's likely to have fallen prey to the 'wolf in the water'. A mean savage beast that eats children's guts who stray into the water too far."
He points at an unusual skull hanging nailed against the wall.
Pah....that's no human skull. It looks more like a baby bovine.
"The water wolf feeds briefly, before moving on."
Uthred Wartooth |
inspecting the skull Uthred says to the man "How interesting, have you seen this fell beast? Why not round up some townsfolk and kill it?"
Artoria |
Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Artoria takes a quick look at the skull, then shakes her head. Her frown is now one of regret and memory, not one of reproach or anger.
"I am sad to say that I have seen enough of war to know that that is no human skull. It is clearly the skull of some cow or bull."
Aryn Seavon |
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Aryn frowns as she takes a look at the skeleton. "I see."
I doubt this man knows anything that's actually benefit the investigation.
Unless her allies have more questions for the man, Aryn wishes him a good day and suggests the party moves toward the next location.
Uthred Wartooth |
"Thank you good man, we shall leave you now since we know how busy you are."
on to the next spot then
Sarephta Nigh |
"We have so many different leads," Sarephta mourns. "All of which mean little to me. I wonder if we should go check the...what was it? A barn? Field? It seemed there had been suspicious activity there."
Artoria |
Artoria nods, pointing in the direction of the Chenowitz farmstead they were told of.
"This abandoned Chenowitz place sounds like the best lead to me. Mysterious figures wandering about and all that."
Sarephta Nigh |
Maybe we should just go now, and if it looks promising, we stay until evening. I can't think of other leads aside from trying the place that was locked first.
Uthred Wartooth |
"We could find a vantage point and hide there during the day to see if anyone comes and goes. Then as it turns to night we can see the happenings and sneak up under the cover of darkness. We should tell the townsfolk we are going someplace else though in case there are more cultists and throw them off our trail. Just a thought." Uthred says away from prying ears.
Chyrone |
Alright-ee then.
Arriving at the Chenowitz place, the sight of its condition is pretty much what you'd expect after Viorec's telling of it.
A wicker-and-gourd scarecrow of a moth-winged woman leans against a rickety frame in the front yard of this derelict farmhouse. The house’s windows are boarded up, and its front porch is overgrown with thick curtains of ivy. Cornfields left to grow wild surround the building itself, and the constant hum of insects fills the air.
This is just the front though.
Uthred Wartooth |
"Shall we hide and wait for things to develop?" Uthred asks his companions.
Uthred should be at 3 CON damage, 5 from the fight and then 2 were restored after lesser res unless i am mistaken
Sarephta Nigh |
"I don't know, Uthred. I would prefer to check things out during the day and see what we are dealing with first. Then we can wait and see what happens."
Any other votes?
Aryn Seavon |
"I agree with Sarephta. We should check it out now, and then wait to see what changes in the evening."
Uthred Wartooth |
Uthred grumbles begrudging acceptance to the ladies and then mutters under his breath...-not like they had stirges sucking their blood or getting conned to be sacrificed last night...but fine whatever the ladies say......"Ok then where to?"
Chyrone |
Where, 1 inside 2 outside: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Twisted and entwined vines of dead ivy drape the rotting columns and broken boards of this rickety porch, creating a thick curtain of vegetation.
Whoever goes in first, finds a deformed human a skeleton hanging from the boards with which the house is barred shut. Save for an old rickety door, hanging barely from its hinges.
Who is the 1st to step inside?
------------------------------
Stepping into K3:
A cold hearth dominates this large room. Between the mostly collapsed internal walls and separate jumbles of crumbled furniture, it seems that this large room may have once been several smaller rooms.
A rickety ladder leads to what looks like an upper loft above, visible through several large holes in the overhanging ceiling above. A large wooden cage sits in the southwest corner of the room.
Artoria |
Artoria is the first into battle, so she shall take the lead.
Chyrone |
Due to everything having been boarded up, lighting is low within.
20% miss to those without special vision.
Artoria notices a crude straw and wooden figure, made to resemble a woman moth.
This figure seems built to resemble Desna.
A sudden soft glow comes from its eyes, which locked onto Artoria's.
You are fascinated.

Uthred Wartooth |
Uthred walks in not knowing there is combat occurring, just that she stopped moving in the doorway- how rude really looks around...
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16... "You should really not stand in the middle of the entrance blocking the rest of us... what is that?"...and then notices the scarecrow?
WIL: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
does he know an attack on his mind occurred? This thing has not shown him a hostile act so he would not attack it yet.
Artoria |
You do always know when you just made a save versus something. Like if you try using Charm Person on someone and they make the save, they know you tried hitting them with something, just not what
Sarephta Nigh |
Sarephta, seeing her companions stopping in their tracks, casts a protective spell, then cautiously enters the room.
I'll cast protection from evil then walk inside.
Chyrone |
Sarephta prepares for the worst and calls in some divine protection against evil.
Artoria is admiring the craftsmanship done on the effigy.
Which, in turn, steps towards her.

Aryn Seavon |
"It moved!" Aryn yells alarmed, suddenly realizing the scarecrow's not just standing there.
All color drains from Aryn's eyes and hair. Her hair and clothes start moving wildly, even before she takes the first step toward the scarecrow. While moving toward the scarecrow Aryn draws her greatsword, which she then swings at the animated object.

"EGADS!" Uthred exclaims finally realizing where the danger laid. "Artria, army thyself, we are under attack!" he calls out to the strange warrior who speaks of other lands not knowing she is under some sort of spell. He then moves to attack the creature...
