"I guess you have a death wish," Wesh says to the red ice creature as it comes aboard.

There is only one ice mephit - atop the mast. The others look more like the water elementals you faced earlier, except icy.

Gallen feels his armor grow cold - so cold it could be numbing, but his force of will shakes off the spell and his armor returns to normal temperature. "I can assure you, you are not." Gallen steps turning as he moves beside Lutor drawing his blade into an upward slash against one of the ice creatures. The creature's icy exterior protects it from his blow, and it appears not to notice the attack.

"I guess you have a death wish," Wesh says to the red ice creature as it comes aboard. He takes a step toward the red thing, draws his greatsword, and slashes at it. His sword cracks into the elemental, gouging it. The creature seems unsteady, but doesn't fall.

Cole takes a moment to study the creature after missing it widely with his spear. He attempts to punch at it with his cestus. His cestus connects, knocking a few chunks of ice off. The creature otherwise comes on unimpeded.

Demlin swings her sap at the icy creature next to her, Cole, and Hel.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

She whacks it quite hard, but it doesn't seem to slow the creature.

Lutor steps back and calls out: "Ice mephit! Do not bunch together, they it can spray you with cold and are is immune themselves itself! Use fire if you have it!" He suddenly turns his crossbow and fires at the unoccupied mephit. His crossbow bolt strikes the mephit on its perch, but it doesn't seem to notice the bolt, laughing at the wizard instead.

"Hmm?" Hel looks over at Demlin, then up towards the top of the mast; hearing commotion, Faila pokes her head out as well. "What is that?" the noblewoman asks the reptile, gesturing with her chin up towards the top of the mast. Faila tilts her head to try to find the creature. "I don't know. I can't really see it. Can you desc--"
Then Cole asks his question, and the creature answers -- and huge ice-things climb up onto the deck. "Oh, crap!!" exclaims the noblewoman, and lurches to the side, scrambling for her bow; between her gown and her shirt comes a distressed squawk as Faila is tumbled and upset. "Ow! Sh!t!!" adds Hel, "stop clawing me!!"

"Let me out!!" comes the muffled sound of the trapped rhamphy.

"Later!! Stay in there, just -- ow!! -- grab the bodice, not my fvcking ribs!!" Hel pushes at her 'passenger', then snatches up her bow and climbs to her feet, using the movement to string the weapon as she rises.

The ice mephit laughs and calls out, "Fear the might of the ice king!" Three bolts of force fly from him, unerringly to strike Lutor, Wesh, and Cole.

Missile 2: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Missile 3: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Lutor take 4 damage, Wesh take 4 damage, Cole take 5 damage. Lutor, you recognize the effect as a magic missile.

Timeon holds his ground, draws his scimitar and does his best to hit the intruder. Unfortunately, like his master, the icy creature seems to repulse the blade.

GM Rolls:

Odenkirk, Powerful Blow: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Damage: 1d12 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 2 = 21

Odenkirk gives a mighty heave and a roar, and scores a deep gash in the creature he faces with Timeon. The ice creature still stands, though.

Grumblejack swings his sword underhand, trying to destroy the creature next to him.

Attack, Power Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 - 1 = 11

His sword only glances off the creature.

The creatures finally retaliate, slamming their icy limbs into those they face.

He doesn't, but it's easier for you to post his action when you do so I can resolve things at the end of the round quickly. You just may need to specify two separate targets in case his first one falls.

As for leveled up, no, but when I originally made his stat block, he still had Strength damage from being poisoned, lowering his attack bonus. I forgot to change the total attack bonus when the poison wore off. It should have been +8.

Round 2

Gallen frowms, this time he strikes at a different point in its structure. Perhaps he could find its weak point. This time his sword hits hard enough to crack some of the ice, although not enough to drop the elemental.

Wesh ignores the elemental's cold as he nods in thanks to Lutor. He braces himself to grow not only larger but also stronger. In the meantime, he swings at the red ice elemental again. With a loud crack! The elemental falls into pieces.

Cole takes the bolt of energy to his chest and grimaces in pain. He tries to punch the ice creature beside them again. His blow is off the mark.

Demlin strikes again at the adjacent one.

The mephit blinks as Hel's arrow hits it, then shouts, "Hey, that actually hurt! Guys, you should beat that archer to a pulp!" As he says that, Hel can only watch as the small wound she'd caused him healed up.

Timeon doesn't do quite as well as his master though his form continues to improve as he fights the creature.

Oh, It's Like That, Is It?:

Hel Intimidate: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Hel is basically trying to intimidate the mephit into running away, with the threat of alchemical fire. Hel does have vials in her gear -- it's just that those are acid, not alchemical fire. Since a Bluff check might be good too:

Faila: Bluff, Aid Another: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Hel Bluff, +2 Aid Another: 1d20 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 + 2 = 16

Hel's eyes narrow at the healing; it's clear to her that this little pest might be considerably more of a pest than she'd momentarily hoped. As she's examining her foe, Faila claws her way out of her loose bodice and onto her shoulder. "Nine Hells, it's cold!!" the discreet nuncio curses, then turns to look where Hel's attention is turned. "No idea," she adds unhelpfully.

"I hit it solidly, but it took barely any hurt from it -- and healed even that," Hel says in a low voice, shaking her head and lifting her bow to release three more shafts at the mephit -- but then she pauses. "Fire ..." Still watching her target with a gaze as cold as the northern night has turned out to be, she asks loudly and generally, "I imagine alchemical fire would do the trick to roast this little bastard down to his bones. Someone dig out those flasks I have in my gear while I keep the little bastard pinned down."

"On it!" rasps the winged reptile, who hops off her shoulder and starts digging a claw into the flap of Hel's backpack, trying to pull it out and retrieve the glass flasks Hel's spoken of. "I'll dive-bomb the little git!"

Gallen tries to repeat his past success but the elemental twists deflecting his blow.

Wesh grows in size from Lutor's spell. Newly enlarged, the fighter swings his blade again, this time at the purple elemental. The enhanced size, however, makes his blade pass over it and Timeon's heads as he tries not to cut the squire.

Cole now studies the one to the left of Grumblejack and attempts to stab it. With a crack, the elemental shatters around his longspear. Green is dead

Demlin gets out her shortbow and shoots at the mephit atop the mast.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Her arrow hits it square in the chest, but it barely penetrates, little more than a pinprick.

Lutor greases the deck underneath the least injured remaining elemental.

GM Rolls:

Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

The elemental stays standing.

GM Rolls:

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 19

The mephit looks ready to panic as you threaten alchemist's fire, then stops, staring at you, and says, "Hey, wait a minute! You don't have any fire! If you did, you'd have used it by now!" There's still a slight tremor in his voice - while you're sure he saw through your ruse about fire, he is a bit shaken by the ice cold way in which you said it.

The ice mephit looks at the giant fighter who suddenly sprung up next to him, then exhales a cloud of icy cold in his direction. As it does so, the wound from Demlin's arrow heals.

GM Rolls:

Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Wesh, take 1 cold damage and give me a DC 13 Reflex save or be sickened for 3 rounds. Making the save also technically halves the damage, but the minimum is 1 damage regardless, so it doesn't apply to this one.

Timeon brings the heavy blade of his scimitar down hard on the side of the elemental as it attacks Odenkirk. He cracks the thing, making it fall to the deck in ice pieces.

Odenkirk glares up at the thing on the mast. "Someone get me that little thing so I can roast it!"

Damage: 3d6 + 7 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (5, 3, 1) + 7 + 3 - 2 = 17 (Power Attacking)

Not exactly sure how the 'leg-up' works mechanically, but it seems doable. Let me know if I need to roll anything else for that. Grumblejack's action would just be giving Wesh a boost.

Move action for both, I figured, one lifting the other or some such, with Wesh maybe holding on to the mast. Large + Large hopefully = Mephit in reach. :P :)

Unfortunately, I don't think Wesh will be able to reach the mephit. Using a ratio of 1:1 for mast height to boat length, the mast is about 55-60 feet high. If we generously make Wesh and Grumblejack both 10 feet tall, with 10 feet reach, they can reach a total height of 40 feet. The top of the mast is also shrouded in darkness, which is why Darkvision was required in order to see the mephit, because it's beyond the light from the torches. Wesh does not have darkvision, so his attack has a 50% miss chance.

You know what? Yes. Grumblejack needs to make a Strength check to boost Wesh, and Wesh should make an Acrobatics check to Jump up and try to get the mephit. I do low (1-50) for miss chance, so if you make the DCs of the checks, you will hit the mephit. I will hold off on resolving until the checks are made, in case Wesh wants to spend a Villain Point.

Looking back, I see that you did not, in fact, have a Villain Point to spend, but the boost idea has such potential, I'm awarding one to you for the action. Hel, you get a Villain Point as well for the idea.

Round 3

Gallen puts away his scimitar and draws a javelin.

"Well if it wishes to stay and fight." Cole studies the creature a moment and calls on the favor of Asmodeus.

Demlin fires another arrow at the mephit.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

She hits the mephit square on, but the arrow doesn't sink in.

Lutor turns his crossbow towards the mephit and fires! His turn was so quick, though, he squeezed the trigger too soon and the bolt flies into the darkness.

A glance at Grumblejack, a glance at Wesh, then Hel says to the mephit, "You caught me -- I don't have any alchemist's fire. I can't say for the others -- but I don't use such valuable things willy-nilly. Not when I'm fairly confident my gentlemen friends are going to pound you into the planking. Wesh, why don't you have Grumblejack give you a leg-up?" She smiles thinly once more, then produces another trio of arrows from her quiver and, as Faila chants lines from The Contract, fires them at the mephit smoothly and deliberately. The first arrow punches through a wing - more potent than any arrow yet. The second missed, and the third struck the mephit's torso, although much of its force was blunted.

The ice mephit grabs at its wing, shouting, "OW! That actually hurt, you mortal garbage! I'm gonna freeze you into an ice block and dump you in the ocean!" Even as he shouts at Hel, the wound in the wing begins to heal.

Timeon puts his own blade down before drawing his shortbow.

GM Rolls:

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Odenkirk pulls out a throwing axe and chucks it at the mephit. It strikes the top of the mast, embedding deep.

Grumblejack gets into a position so he can boost Wesh up. Wesh moves, and while it looks like Grumblejack's knee is going to bend under the weight, he strengthens it and straightens, giving Wesh a heave. Unfortunately, Wesh is only able to jump an extra couple of feet, and his sword can't quite reach the mephit on top of the mast. The mephit laughs at the attempt.

The mephit laughs as he sees you scurry about the deck. He's clearly enjoying a feeling of invulnerability.

Odenkirk glares at the mephit, but says, "I have just the thing below decks. Let me get it."

Odenkirk opens the trapdoor, then hands some oil flasks and rags up to Gallen and Timeon, who take them to Hel. Hel makes herself some improvised fire arrows. Hel, the arrows have a -1 penalty to hit, due to being less than aerodynamic, and treat the range increment of your bow as 20 feet less. It takes a move action to light a fire arrow. Someone can light them for you. They will deal an extra 1d4 points of fire damage.

Wesh frowns up at the Mephit. He wants to shake his fist at the thing, but saves his energy for another attempt to swipe at it. Grumblejack boosts him up, but Wesh times the jump poorly, and so doesn't get anywhere near the vertical lift he needs.

Grinding his teeth at the blasted beast, Wesh asks his companions, "Does anyone have a spare bow?" Even if he can't manage to hit the thing in life, the fighter fully intends to hit it in death. He has to release the rage building up inside of him somehow.

Gallen hands arrows to Hel while Timeon assists Demlin. Gallen calls over to Wesh and Grumblejack. "Timeon has a shortbow."

With a faint expression of disgust -- maybe contempt -- upon her face, Hel continues to take the lit arrows given her by Sir Gallen and Timeon, launching the unstable things up at the ice mephit. And while all three of them come close, only one impacts the creature. Damn!! Faila pauses in her chanting after only one of the three hits. "Are you even trying to hit it, or do I need to go up there and scold it into oblivion??" Hel gives the shivering reptile a scowl.

The mephit is burned slightly by Hel's arrow, although the point itself does not harm him. He says, "You know what? This is getting boring. I'm gonna go find someone who doesn't shoot fire arrows at me to play with. I'll leave you with a parting gift, though!"

GM Rolls:

Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

He blasts Wesh with his icy breath again, then files off into the night, disappearing even from the sight of those who can see in darkness.

Wesh, take 3 damage. DC 12 Reflex halves the damage, and failure also means you are again sickened for 3 rounds.

Combat is over.

Lutor looks around for the mephit, in case it simply teleported. And thinks to the others:

"Does anyone else see it? Is it truly gone?"

Wesh sighs in frustration as the mephit flies off, but gives him a parting gift. At least he took less of her gift this time.

"I think it's gone. For now. I bet it'll be back, though. We should make some fire weapons that the thing seems to hate so much."

The flapping of wings proves to be a poor guide, though Hel wastes two more burning arrows trying to hit the fleeing mephit. "Damn the thing!!" she says as she lowers the bow, staring after it. "And damn me for not thinking of these earlier." Looking around, she gestures to the ice left on-deck. "Are all of these finalized?" she asks, glancing in the direction the mephit had flapped, then nods to Wesh, adding, "I'll make some more."

Begrudgingly letting Faila -- who is crawling down her cloak -- back next to the warmth of her body, Hel quietly says something to her acerbic aide, though it is in Azlanti; Faila responds in the same language, muffled by the cloak, as Hel moves to make as many more of the unbalanced fire-arrows as the oil Odenkirk provided will extend to.

Azlanti:
Hel: "Thank you for your assistance; I believe it made the difference in that last shot."

Faila: "Of course. If the plan is to succeed, so must you -- and not fall to such piddling foes."

As she's working, she says conversationally, "Thank you for your assistance in lighting the arrows, Tim." A glance goes Sir Gallen's way, and she nudges him via the link the group shares: You might acknowledge his ready bravery and skill, she suggests.

Makin' Bacon:
Or clumsy fire-arrows, as it may be. Whups -- apparently that +11 was with the masterwork tools. Going to have to change that. Definitely will have spent that granted VP for that. Now for making more:
