The team opens the secret door and sneaks into the room. They find themselves in a wide cave. The center of the cave plays host to a deep oublitte, about 50 feet down. At the bottom of the oublitte is a beautiful young woman chained to a bloody stone altar with the symbol of Sithhud carved into it. She is the one singing her sad song.

Standing around the edge of the cave's pit are four of what appear to be skeletal ogres carrying spiked clubs in their meaty fists. Rime coats their every surface, and a fine steam wafts up from each of them, as if even the freezing air in this chamber was still too warm for the ice on their bodies. They don't move to acknowledge the group as it enters, nor do they acknowledge them in any way. Their icy glowing gazes are all fixed on the woman at the bottom of the pit.

Aiko sneaks forward with Clarabibulus, then takes in the scene, and finally whispers very quietly to the gnome, "It's a trap."

"Or something horrible," Vashta says, a surge of horror rushing through her at the sight. "Let me see if I can discover anything. If not, we free this woman and simply be aware of your concerns."

She tries to see if her spell can help. I'm guessing detect thoughts won't be much use as she's perhaps thinking in celestial, but maybe we'll get lucky.

"We'll have the element of surprise; maybe we can take out at least one of those ogres before they even realize we're here.

"I have some alchemist's fire; it doesn't look like they like even this warmth... Or I can slick the ground beneath one of them, and hopefully help keep it out of the fight."

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 first identify if they have any vulnerabilities; then if they have sort of ice-walking ability.

Grease is probably my best bet; if we all rush purple, I could hopefully stymie blue or brown.

The sound of crying can blow be heard coming from the woman below. She isn’t outright sobbing, but it is clear from the sniffling and change in breathing that she has started crying. Those who can see her can see some gold colored tears running down her cheek, and she reflexively pulls at her chains holding her arms, trying to wipe them away.

As the steel bites into her wrists, she clenches her teeth and scowls back at her undead jailers, ”Why don’t you just come down here and finish it, you mindless beasts! Come on! Finish it!” she yells, violently pulling at her chains.

She then gets a panicked look in her eyes. She closes them forcefully and tries to focus her breathing to a calmer rhythm.

These ogres are frostfallen, a special quality of corporeal undead that a spellcaster can choose when animating a skeleton with animate dead.

Frostfallen creatures are undead with the cold subtype, and are thus immune to cold and vulnerable to fire. Their skeletal nature allows them to resist the damage from slashing and piercing weapons. In addition, they give off an intense cold, damaging anyone who touches them. Frostfallen creatures are mindless.

The woman seems to calm herself after a few moments, but she continues to look anxious. Not surprising, given her dreadful situation. She is clothed in armor clearly not meant for this climate. Her arms, midriff, legs and feet are bare. The symbol of Shelyn is etched and painted ornately on the chest piece of her armor, and her lower body is protected by an armored skirt of lamellar style armor that matches her chest piece.

Her chains rattle some more as she twists around on the altar, doing her best to get comfortable. Her bonds do not allow her much freedom to move, however, and she grunts in discomfort at the ache of laying on this slab in the same position.

Clara hands out alchemist's fire to Aiko and anyone else who's interested. As she does she whispers, "Calder, if you're rushing in, know that those are Frostfallen. They are hard to hurt with slashing or piercing weapons, and they can hurt you with the coldness of their touch. The good news is that fire should be a big boon against them.

"Oh, and if it looks like they don't have any brains in their skulls...yeah, that's about right."

When everyone's ready, the gnomish fizzician holds up three fingers, then two, then one...and then (seeing everyone ready) she throws a bomb.

As her companions unleash hell on the first frost-fallen, Vashta moves forward sets her stare on it, activating it with Calder's blow +3 damage and then turns her attention to the one to her left, concentrating for a moment to case grease and hopefully keep it from attacking. Clara and Hattori both hurl firebombs at one of the creatures, both vials of volatile alchemical goods hitting their mark. The four ogres lumber to action as the first one begins to blaze. Calder charges in and hammers the first ogre, and as he does so it completely comes apart, splitting and cracking as his axe passes through its midsection.

The other frostfallen ogre keeps its feet despite Vashta's spell. It smashes into her, and as it withdraws its mace from the bloody wound that it leaves, rime covers the wound.

Calder swings his axe mightily, and with a great crash it clangs into the armor which his foe wears. Vashta is no more fortunate or puissant, her cestus-clad fist crashing harmlessly into the frostfallen creature's head.

Below, Carinthia pulls on her chains... fruitlessly. They are quite strong.

With a feat of great strength, Carinthia bursts free. She still has the manacles around her wrists, and long lengths of chain hang from them, but she's broken the pitons that attached them to the ground.

Ameiko begins bardic performance, extolling the strength of her adventurer friends, pushing them to great feats of bravery.

The last frostfallen ogre attacks Aiko, swinging its mighty club at her.

leinathan, I'm wondering if I can a) see the caster from my current spot, or b) have a sense of if I have LOS to him? Depending on the answer, I'll either use my standard to lob a bomb at the remaining skeleton or the caster.
