Please put all out of game discussion here.

First of all throughout the entire game, please give feedback if the game is not going how you think it should in terms of enjoyment or style. Always open to criticism. I know most of you personally so hit me up whenever. It would be awesome if everyone would post once a day. If you can do more great. If not completely understand real life. When we get to combat, please post your action without waiting for everyone in front of you to act. I will summarize the best I can at the end of rounds, or at enemy actions. This will keep the game moving.

I'm hoping we can use this to discuss which game to play, party makeup, and character ideas. Do you guys know each other? Are you involved with your backstories? Also if you guys can come up with like a paragraph about your character and some inner motivations or personal quests, pbp format is a great way for those kinds of personal stories to come to life!

We are currently looking at two different adventure paths. Serpent's Skull and Kingmaker. We would need to come to a consensus on which one to play. Nick has wanted to Kingmaker for a while and we are trying to play in one currently but we don't know if it is actually running. So if it isn't I know he would vote for that, and if it is he would rather play the other one. If there is another adventure path that sounds way better let me know! We can look at that one instead.

Character creation::

Starting Level:1
Starting Wealth: Average for chosen class or you can roll in thread.
Ability generation system:15 point buy
Hit point generation:Max first level, after that average round up or roll
Class:Any from books allowed EXCEPT: Gunslinger, Summoner.
Race: Any core, non-core rarely, but looking at 10 rp points or less races from advanced race guide. I don't want someone to be a certain race only because they have the two bonus stats to their class min/max and a dump stat in their class dump stat. If there is overwhelming reason from a story reason you want to play a race let's talk about it.
traits:2 traits allowed, one has to be a campaign trait. no drawbacks
Source Material restrictions:Core, APG, ACG, Advanced Race Guide, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat. Specific race splatbooks are possible as well such as Dwarves of Golarion.

Posting formats:
Let's put all ooc chat and dice rolls in spoilers if we can, and don't be afraid to put conditionals in spoilers if you want specific things to happen as reactions to things that could happen.

dice rolls:

Attack with sword -2 from power attack +1 from bard song: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage +3 power attack: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

If ziggs sees me come out of river:

Lee sin runs away like a scared little hamster screaming "IT'S SO HIDEOUS"

If we can keep spoken word as bolded with quotes:
"I am currently speaking"

Inner thoughts as italics
I am currently thinking

out of game messages as ooc in spoilers

Spoiler:
Why am i currently poisoned?

Non common languages, feel free to run them through a translator or gibberish and spoiler it underneath.
"Warum hast du ein Apfel?"
Draconic:

"Why do you have an apple?"

Other oddities:
We will use roll20 as our combat map software, it is not necessary but helps me out between your posts to realize where you want to be. We won't use maps for everything either as some combats do not need them.

When we create a character on paizo, you can create an alias and just copy paste your character from whatever source you have your info on into the about section. In your name, race, and class we will be putting information that makes it easy for me to reference quickly without having to go into your alias specifically. I'll show how to do that when we get characters going.

If I've forgotten anything let me know!

dot so i dont forget to put my stuff here. I am currently looking at arcanist.

Also if we have interest, I wouldnt mind playing an evil campaign.

OOh forgot to put that in there. Would like the group to come to a consensus on good vs evil. I don't really care either way as long as the whole group can agree they want to work together.

Hi all,

Looking forward to playing. I vote for Kingmaker and good alignment, but I'm okay with whatever.

Welcome! I know everyone got the links, hopefully they all check in here soon. Eric said he's out of town for the week, so we aren't starting until next weekend at the earliest. Hopefully by then we have at least the game we want nailed down.

I am on and ready to go! My vote would be for the Serpents Skull and I normally prefer a more evil side of things but I can find fun in almost everything so I will be fine in both cases!

So one for each, perfect! hopefully Alex and Eric weigh in and agree so that we don't go to a tiebreaker. Any idea on what classes you guys might be interested in?

I usually play casters but if de10mile (not sure who you are out of game sorry!) wants to be an arcanist, I'd be happy to try a more combat-oriented class.

Quick question though, I've wanted to play a kobold for the longest time but the stat array is horrendous (-4 STR -2 CON +2 DEX). Is there any way I can play a kobold with stats adjusted to a standard array, something like a halfling (-2 STR +2 DEX +2 CHA)?

If not that's cool as well.

Actually scratch that, I'm thinking of playing a haunted-cursed Spirit Guide Oracle as a sort of Shaman-type character.

well I will be mostly a summoner/buffer character

I am starting lean towards kingmaker, since i want to do one and I am starting to get concerned that the one i just started is going to die. My preference is evil, but I am fine with good.

Whatever is fun for you, I'd prefer not to change stats of races. I love kobolds though and enjoy playing them a lot, even though they got the shaft on being statted up. Have you looked at the shaman class? Never played one myself, statted one or two up. Pretty different than the oracle though if you had that mechanic more in mind.

If we end up doing the Serpents skull I was thinking of being a rogue(I had fun playing the one down in California with you Kyle and want to try a campaign with one). If we do the kingmaker game I am leaning toward a bard unless that makes to many buffer characters than I'm thinking of a paladin tank like person.

Bards are great, and you can never have too many buffers....well you can, but we won't.

I have looked at the Shaman class, but I kind of prefer spontaneous to prepared casting. Though I'm happy to play any role that's needed, so everyone just keep me updated.

Also I've never played an evil campaign but if everyone's interested in playing one I'm all in for sure

I think we'll just put it to a vote once Eric gets back from vacationing. Ill bug Alex to get in here and weigh in. Completely understand on spontaneous vs prepared.

NE Medium humanoid (catfolk) AC 12, touch 12, flat-footed 10 Fort +1, Ref +2, Will +1 Skills Acrobatics -1 (-5 to jump), Diplomacy +5, Knowledge (arcana) +5, Perception +1, Spellcraft +5, Stealth +1, Survival +1, Use Magic Device +8; Racial Modifiers +2 Perception, +2 Stealth, +2 Survival

Sorry for the delay. I'd be game for an evil campaign. We always tend to be the good guys so maybe doing something a bit more on the otherside would be solid.

Not really worried about campaign setting.

Can you let me know where we can look up the player classes available?

Sounds like Rogue , mage caster, and paladin are the taken classes?

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/

That's got the whole game on it. It's not to different than 5e or 3.5. Eric, nick and I all have hero lab which helps us make characters pretty quick if you wanted to get together at some point and take a look. Otherwise there's always the age old pdf way as well. Most classes will be found in core, advanced players guide or advanced class guide

For those of us without Hero Lab (i.e., me) I've found this https://sourceforge.net/projects/yapcg/ really really useful

sorry didn't mean to leave you out. If you're happy with that keep on rollin, if you want to use hero lab im more than willing to set up a screen share and a Skype call at some point too. Whatever makes it easiest/more fun for you. I just like it for newer players because it highlights everything you need to do in red until you finish everything.

Oh no worries I didn't mean it like that! It's just a "freeware" alternative :)

So I think to make a decision we are going to do kingmaker. I'll change title. How do you guys feel about trying to start up Monday Tuesdayish. Is that to soon? For back stories feel free to write in major or minor characters into the campaign. I'll work as many as I can into the game. Remember the more books you leave me or other players to respond to the better the game flows. For the where you are now: you guys have been selected or forced into however it works for you guys to travel south from the city of Restov into what is known as the stolen lands. You are chartered to explore and deal with all banditry in the area. The group of you are traveling along a road to a border location known as Olegs trading post. If you guys could make an alias with your character on pause that would be awesome

How do we make an alias?

Click on my account at top of page and o. There you can create an alias. Then edit profile and you can copy the hero lab output into the notes section

So I had some free time and wrote a backstory for my character. If you got time and want to read it I would love to hear what you guys think!

Rodjer the Halfling Bards Backstory:
Born into a Chelish family of slaves, Rodjer’s family was killed in a bandit raid when he was a small child. Rodjer only survived because of the bravery of his mother and father who hid him in a barrel of potatoes and lured the bandits away. After the raid Rodjer was found a day later by the masters jester, Maverik, while we was assessing the damage from the bandit raid. Knowing the young child and the fate of his parents the old jester took Rodjer to be his apprentice to keep him from being killed as a slave that can’t work. As he grew, Rodjer was treated nicely but always as an outsider by all (the free folk and by the other Halfling slaves) except his master Maverik. As soon as he started training the boy it was apparent that Rodjer had an other-worldly gift with his fiddle. He could charm, confuse, and even hurt others as his talents grew. Fearing for the lad, Maverick planned on taking the boy on one of his jester like journeys to perform for a king in the “free” cities, and finding a home for him there.
On the road to the “free” cities Rodjer and Maverik were attacked by none other than more bandits! The old jester was fatally wounded and was about to be finished off, but Rodjer, harnessing the emotion of seeing his master and only true friend so close to death, was able to use his fiddle magic to kill every single one of the bandits. The young fiddler quickly ran to his master and held him in his arms as he tried to catch the last words of his dying friend. “My friend, you are gif *cough cough* gifted beyond what I or you can even imagine. Quick bring me the box from my saddle pack.” Rodjer quickly retrieved the box and brought it to him. “This was supposed to be our parting gift *cough cough* but I guess that time is upon us, take this, discover your true potential, and..”
Maverick never finished what he was trying to say. After weeping and burring his master, Rodjer came back to the box wondering what could be inside. He opened it and inside was the most beautiful fiddle Rodjer had ever seen in his life. As he picked it up he could feel power in its wood, a humming in its strings, and a sense of rightness in his hands. He began to play and as his sorrow poured from the instrument it was if the world grew still and the trees themselves bowed in grief.
It is now 5 years later and Rodjer, now a 20 year old young man, spend his days performing on the streets, in inns, and anywhere he thinks will earn him some coin, and he spends his nights spending that coin drowning out his past memories in whatever bar he hasn’t already been kicked out of for not settling on his tabs. after on particularly bad day of preforming and then an even worse night of drinking Rodjer once again finds himself without enough coin to pay for his tab, this normally would earn him a kick in the pants out the door and into the streets but this bar happened to be the favorite bar of the captain if the watch. Not liking those who break the law the captain threw young Rodjer into the cities jail and left him to sober up.
Upon waking, Rodjer was marched to the captain’s quarters and sat in front of the captain and a finely dressed noble looking man. “Look here sonny, it pains me to see a young Halfling throw his life away. I hear talk on the streets that you have a pure gift with that fiddle of yours. A pure gift only on the days you’re not still half drunk from the night before. If it was up to me you would spend the rest of your days in the jail performing for your cell, but luckily for you, this gentleman to my left has a… business proposition for you” The well-dressed man stepped forward and spoke in a slow even tone “Ah yes, the great drunken fiddler. I could possibly have use for a person of your entertainment for quest I am sending out. This group of adventures have been put together to go explore and settle an area of the stolen lands. They will need a form of entertainment and you seem like a perfect fit. I have arranged it with the captain, you are free to go for the night come back here with your answer in the morning. And Halfling, don’t try and run. It won’t end well for you.”
Not really having a support system or a way to handle stress, Rodjer turned to the one activity that had gotten him through the last couple years, getting drunk as a skunk. At some point in the night Rodjer found himself in front of a stature of Cayden Cailean, the god of ale, freedom, bravery, and wine. Rodjer slumped down in front of the statue and put yet another bottle to his lips. RODJER. “Who was that?!? Who is there” Rodjer said rather surely, as he tried to stand up and look around he tripped over his own feet and went down in a heap of boy and alcohol. RODJER YOU EXCUSE FOR A HALFLING STAND UP. Rodjer managed to pull himself up and hold steady on the statue. “Seriously who is there? Is that you Geoffrey? I’ll slit yer stomach open if you try and steal my money again!” RODJER IT IS I, THE GOD CAYDEN CAILEAN ! BY THE STATE YOU ARE IN I WOULD SAY I AM THE GOD YOU SEAM TO UNKOWINGLY WORSHIP. I HAVE WATCHED OVER YOU SINCE YOU WERE A CHILD RODJER. I HAD GREAT PLANS FOR YOU! BUT IT SEAMS YOU ONLY WORSHIP THE WINE AND ALE SIDE OF ME. YOU ARE CERTAINLY NOT BRAVE AND YOU WASTE THE GIFT OF FREEDOM I HAVE GIVEN YOU. “Gift of freedom? If you are responsible for my freedom and have been watching over me since I was young then why are my parents dead? Why is Maverick dead? Why am I about to be sent to my death by adventure or by stinking in a jail? You no great god! You are just a drunken bastard. Leave me alone so I can drink away my pain!” AH YES YOU HAVE A LOT OF SORROW TO DROWN OUT. THAT IS OFTEN THE ROUTE THAT LEADS MANY MEN INTO UNKOWINGLY WORSHIP A PART OF ME. BUT YOU RODJER IT WAS NECESSARY TO FORGE YOU THROUGH THE FIRE. TO UNDERSTAND THE GIFT I HAVE GIVEN YOU! RODJER YOU HAVE THE POWER OF THE FIDDLE WIZZARDS OF OLD. WITH A FIDDLE IN YOUR HAND YOU CAN COTROL THE HEARTS OF MEN, BEASTS, AND TREES. I KNOW YOU HAVENT USED YOUR MAGIC SINCE THE NIGHT MAVERIK DIED BUT RODJER YOU HAVE THE POWER TO SHAPE KINDOMS. I KNOW SEEP DOWN THERE IS A FIRE IN YOU. THAT IS WHY YOU MUST GO ON THIE QUEST! YOU MUST FIND THAT FIRE AGAIN AND UNLOCK YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL. “And why should I go on this quest? Why do I need your magic gift? I am perfectly happy here!” RODJER LOOK AROUND YOU! YOU HAVE NO FRIENDS, NO FAMILY AND IF YOU DON’T GO ON THIS QUEST YOU WILL ROT IN JAIL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. HEAD MY ADVICE; GOING ON THIS QUEST IS THE ONLY WAY FOR YOU TO UNLOCK YOUR TRUE POWER. YOU MUST FIND YOUR OTHER HALF OF YOUR GIFT! THIS IS THE ONLY TRUE WAY FORR YOU TO SHAPE YOUR KINGDOM! GOODBYE NOW RODJER THE MORNING APROACHES AND YOU SHOULD MAKE YOUR DECISIONS SOON. OH AND TAKE A SHOWER YOU REEK. “What does that mean? My other half? My kingdom? What does that mean?” Rodjer kicks the statue and laughs “Why am I listening to this statue? It’s just another bad batch of Restovian ale!” Rodjer sniffs himself, “and I smell like a bed of roses!” As soon as he says that a great stream of water surges from the mouth of the statue and drenches Rodjer from head to toe.
As the sun comes up Rodjer once again finds himself sitting in the captain’s quarters, with the captain and the well-dressed noble across the room from him. “Well young drunken fiddler, have you decided your path?” “I have.” Rodjer said quietly. “Well what shall it be lad? Will ye be going with this group to be their jester or will you be a jester in a cell?” Rodjer sat in silence for a while then piped up and said “I have decided to go. But I want to go along as a full-fledged adventurer not just a silly jokester!” At this both the captain and the noble man burst into laughter. “You an adventurer? That is a good one young fiddler! You can call yourself whatever you want but do not be surprised when the other “adventurers” on your quest merely ask for your songs and not your sword! Come along young “adventurer” let’s take you to meet the others” As Rodjer left the room he could hear the captain still howling with laughter but her thought to himself I will one day be back! He will see! I will have a kingdom…

Cassandra didn't know her parents. She was raised as a priestess in a temple to the gods on the island of Iblydos, essentially Golarion's Ancient Greece. The people of Iblydos are polytheistic and worship a pantheon of gods with strange names like Ares, Dionysus, and Artemis, although current scholars from Absalom believe that these are just names and aspects given to the deities of Golarion (like Gorum, Cayden Cailean, and Erastil, to name a few). At any rate, Cassandra was a priestess of the gods, but did not know the gods. She was not a cleric; the gods did not speak to her, guide her, protect her. Despite her lack of connection with the divine, or perhaps because of it, Cassandra became a great Seer and prophet. Her fellow priestesses had the Sight, of course, but Cassandra's gift was different. She could pierce the veil of the future as easily as a tailor would sew a needle through a piece of cloth. People throughout Iblydos came to her temple to hear her forecast the future. Although the beginning of her life was a mystery, she was content with the present. Until one day... the gods spoke.

Cassandra awoke that fateful morning prepared to spend the day prophesying in the atrium of the temple. Instead, she found her head clouded with voices, dozens, hundreds of voices, all speaking at once. She grasped her head with her hands and collapsed onto the ground as a wind without a source whipped through her bedroom. The pain and confusion was indescribable. Then, suddenly, the voices spoke in unison, saying one word: "Brevoy." Cassandra suddenly was overwhelmed with images of a far away land, a vast kingdom, nobles and royalty. The images swirled in her kind until they stopped on a man and woman, dressed in expensive-looking, colorful clothing... Who looked just like her. No one on Iblydos looked like Cassandra, with her bronze skin and black hair, but this vision... This man and woman.. If not her parents, Cassandra decided, they are at least her people. She would leave the temple for this Brevoy place (wherever it is) at once.

Of course, things would not be that easy. Priestesses at the temple lived a good life. They were fed, clothed, and sheltered, they were adored by the people seeking mystic wisdom. But these luxuries came at a price: evidently, they could not quit being a priestess and leave the temple. This became clear to Cassandra when she began to walk out of the temple immediately after her vision. She was stopped at the entrance by a large beast of a man who looked like a savage barbarian wearing fancy clothes that did not at all for his character - Yannos.

She knew this man, or at least knew of him and had seen him around the temple grounds. He was the merchant that took care of the temple's finances. Why would he care if a priestess left the temple? Yannos spoke in a quiet but threatening voice to Cassandra. He made it clear that he owned the priestesses. Their prophesying was an excellent business venture, and Cassandra's in particular brought in vast amounts of gold to the temple's, and Yannos', pockets. Cassandra and the other priestesses, Yannos said, were his slaves. They argued aloud until Cassandra decided she had had enough, stopped talking, and tried to walk past Yannos to leave the grounds. Yannos hit Cassandra in the face with a powerful backhand, knocking her to the ground. While Yannos muttered something about Cassandra learning her lesson, the voices in Cassandra's head began shouting louder and louder, it was a cacophony of sound, then suddenly, quiet, except for a single command: "He stands in your way. Remove him."

Wind howled around Cassandra, her eyes began to glow, she felt a surge of strength pass through her. Near her on a plinth near the temple steps was a gigantic ceremonial warhammer, cast in bronze, said to represent the weight of the gods and their divine judgment. It was much too heavy for a woman of her build to lift, but yet... the voice in her head was adamant: "Pick it up." She did. Yannos screamed and drew his shortsword but it was too late. Cassandra roared as she swung the hammer into Yannos' side, leaving him sprawling on the ground, alive but unconscious. As suddenly as it began the battle fury left her, leaving Cassandra astonished at what she had done. She took the warhammer and attached it to a strong leather strap on her back, and left the temple for the docks. Her next stop would be Brevoy.

Months later Cassandra arrived in Brevoy, desperate for a way to get in touch with the nobility in Restov... to get in touch with her family. But, at least in Brevoy, a commoner like Cassandra would not be granted an audience with royalty, at least not until she had proven herself loyal to the kingdom. Undeterred, Cassandra answered an advertisement looking for adventurers to explore the so-called Stolen Lands and to eventually establish a fledgling nation in that territory.

Awesome backstory!

fun read everybody. great back stories so far! sorry for my delay in getting started. week long vacation followed by illness. i'm mostly caught up with the required reading. should be able to get my character loaded soon. likely human fighter.

avatar name. character name Karakurt.
(-eric h)

Male Human-Medium Fighter 1|| HP 12 | Initiative +1 | AC 17 (Touch 12, Flatfooted 15) | Saves Fort +3/Reflex +1/Will -1 | Skills-Climb, Intimidate, Ride, Survival

Karakurt led an average life as a boy. Raised by a loving Mother and a stern Father, he grew up northern Brevoy along the misty shores and harsh hill lands. Though a proud Issian, Karakurt was much more interested in exploring the world than his parents would like.

As a teenager, Karakurt had little patience for farming and sheep herding. He desired to be a great warrior. Though his parents had little knowledge of war, they had heard stories of great Dwarven warlords in the depths of Mount Veshka. After the harvest of his 16th birthday, Karakurt was sent to seek out the Dwarfs.

The Dwarfs were not immediately accepting of Karakurt, but they eventually allowed him to learn their trades and study with their warriors, so long as he grew a beard. One friend he made was Jonoh Lightbringer, a seasoned paladin warrior. Jonoh taught Karkurt how to fight with hammer and shield though finding weapons large and heavy enough for Karakurt to wield proved difficult. It seemed all the farm work was not as useless as he thought for it had made him quite strong. Karakurt remained with the Dwarves for several years, writing his parents each season.

on a routine mine exploration patrol, Jonoh and Karakurt were attacked by a pack of goblins fiercer than any goblins they had seen before. Surrounded, Jonoh attempted to ease Karakurt's nerves and inspired him to fight with honor and that any death would be a good death. "With your shield or on it" Jonoh yelled with valor as he charged the goblin pack. The battle raged for several minutes but in time, all the goblins were slain. Jonoh, holding on by a thread after slaying the last goblin, looks over his shoulder to find Karakurt mortally wounded. Without a moments hesitation, Jonoh kneels at Karakurt's side, says a prayer, and lays his hands on the fatal blow. Karakurt awakens several moments later to find that he is alive, but his friend and mentor Jonoh has died. Spending the last of his life force to save Karakurt.

Overcome will all kinds of emotion, Karakurt carried Jonoh's body back to the Dwarven halls, where honorable death rituals were carried out. Soon after, Karakurt left the Dwarf city to return home. He arrived home just in time to watch his parents fall ill with the plague. After they passed he spent a couple seasons perfecting his conditioning and fighting skills. He extracted every last gold piece he could out of the farm before abandoning it. He had decided to start a new life for himself in the city of Brevoy.

Once in the city, he purchased supplies, arms, and armor and sought work as a mercenary. Though he had been trained with hammer and shield, the thought of wielding a shield again brought back painful memories of his weakness in the caves. Karakurt instead decided that a greatsword would be his new weapon of choice, and pledged that would would never succumb to weakness again.

Karakurt's mercenary travels eventually led him to the city of Restov, where he would take up with a new group of companions to explore the Stolen Lands.

For a fighter? It's 175 for fighters, paladins, and rangers.

Unless we are using special starting wealth rules.

Kyle, How much money of the 900G from the wealthy parentage trait do you want to allow Orval to spend on stuff he is taking on the adventure (mules, carts, food for the group, manacles, ale....lots of ale etc. etc.). And how much would you like to be eaten up by bribes to acquire the charter/ salaries for his other companions.

For those of you interested.

origin story:

Born to a wealthy cleric of Abadar, Orval lived a privileged youth. He had always admired his fathers power over the peoples of his congregation. The ability his father had to assert his will over others inspired Orval. He could control the congregation with ideas and ceremony, and as long as this control was asserted the people were happy, they felt safe, commerce flourished.

At a young age Orval became utterly obsessed with control. He would capture rats and teach them to do mazes or little tricks in exchange for food. he would even get them to attack and kill one another. the stupid rats die and the intelligent rats get fed and are able to propagate more freely. This is the natural order of things.

As he got older Orval would try to control people as his father did, but his lack in social guile left him largely without success. Orval always seemed to know what the "correct" decision for people to make was, he just could never convince them to do it. It was at this point that he began his arcane studies. Perhaps if he couldn't get people to obey him for their own good, He could summon creatures that would obey him. He studied and practices the mysteries of arcane magic unrelentingly, and when he wasn't doing that he was conducting more experiments on rats, or reading books on other subjects. His mother fearing that her son might become "A giant nerd", "an insufferable dweeb", or "A pointy hat geek" hired a local mercenary to break up the relentless studying with lessons in martial combat. Though Orval did not much enjoy it, he did see it's value towards the goal of a total and well rounded education.

In his teenage years, Orval came across a man fixing a leak in the roof of his house. The man was atop the domicile along with some building materials. As he was passing by, Orval decided to stop and watch this mere peasant toil through his meaningless task. He could see the small beams of the roof start to bow in. He watched a while longer and then yelled out to them man You are going to to fall. You don't have enough structural support to hold that much weight with so little displacement. The man scoffed at the rich brat, and continued about his work. Not 2 minutes later though the roof collapsed. Orval rushed into the hut to check to see which beams had broken. The site before his eyes was horrific. Not only were the beams mere plans of wood inefficiently laid with their wide face up, But there was not a single cross brace to be found. The center beam had snapped under the weight of the peasant and a couple hundred pounds of materials.

The lowly peasant moaned in agony as he lay on the ground. I guess the decent thing would be to help the poor helpless fool. He kneeled next to the wounded man and checked him for mortal wounds. Finding none he simply said. an A-frame with cross braced members would be much more structurally sound. Also you should always maximize the length of your structural members along the axis parallel to the direction of the shear force, not orthogonally as you have done here. If only there were some sort of laws that directed people how to do the normal every day things correctly....This poor man would probably never have fallen off the roof.

Orval's formative years were filled with such preventable accidents as the one with the peasant on the roof: Fatigue on carriage axle leading to critical failure, insufficient shoring in a mine later leading to a tunnel collapse, Sick people spreading diseases to healthy people when they could just as easily been quarantied or burned. It seemed to poor Orval that the world was filled by miserable idiots. Idiots who could be safe and happy if only they had a little more structure, guidance, and micromanagement in their lives.

One day Orval heard about expeditions being sent into the stolen lands, and he was already privy to the rampant banditry in those areas. Talking to his father he proclaimed with the resources in the stolen lands, If somebody could convince the bandits to unite, they gain far more money through governing the land then through terrorizing it. His father, weary of hearing Orval's mother complain of the dead rats found about the manor, agreed to give his son a loan to help finance and lead one of the expeditions being sent south.

With this thought in his head, Orval couldn't help but think that this would be his chance to make people listen to his ideas. If he could just get the bandits to form some sort of government, he could help them draft laws that would make them rich, but also keep the people safe. He would also finally be free of all of the disapproving comments from his mother regarding all of the dead rats.

He immediately went to the recruitment office. I will finance and lead an expedition to the stolen lands. And I will secure the area from bandits. He then slipped the recruiting captain a sum of 100 gold pieces. I believe this should be sufficient to get me one of the charters. From amongst the many applicants Orval carefully selected those who would serve as his companions, offering them considerable compensation and a share of any valuables acquired by the expedition.

Whatever you deem appropriate. Just keep it going the way of what we talked about keeping it away from combat related gear. Anything role play wise or helping the expedition do expedition stuff is awesome.

excellent back story nick. i liked it very much. very clean. nice work!

"The site before his eyes was horrific. Not only were the beams mere plans of wood inefficiently laid with their wide face up, But there was not a single cross brace to be found." I love it

I know alex said he'd get his first post up here tonight or tomorrow. So once we are all in, I'll get us moving and we can try to get our post a day going. Unless there's still some good convo going on then we can always let that play out first.

origin:
Chaos is a ladder - Littlefinger

Daval and Mahjit at a very young age knew what it meant to be below others. Born into a society ruled by the noble family Orlovsky’s as mere servants, as well as being of the catfolk race there were many things that were stacked against the brothers.

Time would test them both and time and time again they’d be proven that they lacked all that would let them live a comfortable life.

The boys served a third rate branch of the Orlovsky’s, led by the head of the family Harling. A pitiable man trying to hold to whatever shred of decency / respect the Orlovsky name would bring. And in that pitiable state he took no greater joy than revel in what little influence he had. The boys would be witness to depravity, gluttony, and all manners of waste. Along with the daughter Diana.

For the Mahjit it gave him the hope to separate. To gain the independence, power, influence to go away and took to learning and much as possible to how to be unlike Harling.

However, for Daval he saw the world in a more...pragmatic light for himself. He saw the dance the nobles played, the intrigue, the change, the game that was known to all but hardly ever mentioned, and in this he quickly understood that as he stood… he would not be able to join in.

So both the brothers sought ways to improve themselves. The younger in the martial ways, hoping to make his honor in combat. The older in the ways of magic. And where the younger succeed, the older always had trouble in the traditional wizard ways.

All would change one faithful night. A chance meeting with an old crone in a the middle of the night on a journey from an errand. One who promised wishes of a grandeur & value to that of which was sacrificed.

The younger sought to prove himself on his own skill and power.

The older...made a choice.

A life for a greater one.

Mahjit would not forget that moment wherever his destiny has lead him. The moment his brother called out his name as the thing he would sacrifice…

For it, Daval gained his first foothold on the ladder of power. A spark of magic born of his choice, a spiteful burning energy. Not unlike other “sorcerers” that embodied this spark it would fuel his endeavor the crone whispered. An unnatural charisma and luck born from that spark would guide him. It would less than a year from that moment that Daval would become the head servant of Harling. A year later married to his daughter, and only shortly afterward would Harling lose what power he had in scandal, with Daval coming out of it the better.

Now this married up and coming noble would take on a request of the higher noble representatives. To prove his worth and guide the Orvolsky’s higher in this task.

Where Harling’s fate, his brothers, or that of the other competing nobles is still to be determined, but Daval knows one thing...the ladder must be climbed.

Disregard the reference to Angus. I thought Jon would be joining us forthright, but as it turns out he will be a week or 2.

what do we wish to use for mapping tools? I have a roll20 setup and we can use that. Or we can do theater of the mind. Or I can dabble in some google docs and see if that'll work. Up to the group.

Also someone will eventually need to be drawing a map as you guys are chartered to explore. Not sure how you wish to do so, but if someone wants to take charge on that and share it with the group so everyone can see or edit that would be great.

Another good document to make eventually is a loot list, just to track who is claiming what if needed.

HOWEVER: OFFICIAL GAME START WOOHOO.
