The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Cosmo thinks that performing the ritual might appease the dark cylinder and stop the collapse. Needing the torc from the statue, you go back to collect it. However when you do so, with a loud bang the southernmost column in the long hall shatters, creating a large cloud of dust. Moments later, creaking mournfully, the giant statue starts moving and disgusting undead shapes start moving out from the dust....

DC 17 KN (religion):
Draped in fine dark robes, this undead creature’s body seems to be made of equal parts bone, leathery flesh, and blood-red smoke.

Ghuls are undead jann whose eternal existence was twisted by fate and wrought through the displeasure of Ahriman, Lord of the Divs. As if the curse of undeath and ravenous hunger were not enough, these once-majestic creatures now bear donkey hooves as feet. Despite their horrific undead appearance, this feature shames them the most, and they hide their feet from view.

DR/good, resistant to fire, cursed claws

The halfling professor then casts divine favor on himself and steps back behind the pillar.

His features harden and become bony, mimicking the undead he's hunted for so long. Gods be damned, that's big. On the Shoanti's advice, he reaches for the adamantine arrows.

Cosmo prepares for battle and Bruxo tries to bring ill fortune against the construct but it fights off the misfortune. Halbarad heroically rejoins the party and plants some adamantine arrows in the construct, leaving it quite damaged.

The statue lurks forward and raises its khopesh high, swinging it down with great force on Bizzle!

Th'reiwa-don's armor holds for the first bite. Seeing the ghul go straight for the bird's soft gullet Hal tugs hard on the reins... Mounted Combat Ride Check: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (7) + 24 = 31 ...but the creature lunges just fast enough to clamp down its jaw.

I don't think I get an AoO. The bird only has a five-foot reach.

Hal gives a low whistle and Th'reiwa-don snaps back at whichever ghul is still alive, if any, and the one that bit him if both.

Hal concentrates on the statue until it crumbles, switching to cold iron arrows against the ghuls (nearest first) once the main foe has fallen. Favored enemy bonus is the same for both. I will eat any AoOs if the blue/purple ghuls are alive when I start shooting. Clustered Shots to total damage before DR.

Oww! Help, I'm injured! Bizzle somehow managed to avoid the statue, mostly due to its own ineptness! Nice time for a crit fail, tyty.

Bizzle shifts back behind Ryster and casts Haste on the party! So a few of you might get an extra attack or something. Don't just stand there, protect me! That thing almost hit me!

I think by default most (maybe all) animal companions have 5' reach even when they are large.

Also, I'm going to assume Hercule steps back as well so Ryster can have room to step back as he mentioned in his description.

Cosmo's bullet sinks into the undead but doesn't have its full effect against the evil shapechanger! Ryster hits another and finds that his bullet is likewise not fully effective. DR/good in case you missed it earlier

Th'reiwa-don is not able to bite into the attacking ghul but Hal hits the statue with two more arrows which chip away large chunks of stone! Bizzle then speeds everyone's actions! Roll extra attacks if you've got'em!

Bruxo frowns as the Misfortune fails to take the statue. Fortunately, his ancestors have taught him to try, try again when something fails.

Use Accursed Hex to retry the Misfortune on the statue. DC 21 Will save (again). Five-foot step, Move action to draw a wand.

Not liking the look of the undead, Hercule retreats straight up to the ceiling (thanks to Overland Flight), and tosses a Fireball at them.

Spending a point of arcane reservoir to amp the DC by 2.

Fireball (hitting red, green, and purple, but missing blue): 10d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 6, 3, 6, 3, 5, 6, 4) = 45 Fire damage, Reflex DC 24 for half.

The statue continues to stand despite the many large chunks now missing from its frame. Yet again it fights off Bruxo's hex as well. Hercule hits three of the undead with a blast of fire but it doesn't seem as effective against these undead as their natural resilience protects them from some of the damage.

Hal again keeps an eye on his mount, yanking the reins at just the right moment... Mounted Combat Ride Check: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (7) + 24 = 31 ...to pull the bird out of harm's way. Still, another ghul bite takes out a few feathers.

Also, I do have a Headband of Alluring Charisma so I have an effective 24 in that stat. I've updated my profile to show that fact. I can still cast all my spells even if that first strike wasn't a crit fail. Well, maybe not, I'd be dead. :)

Ryster laughs as the ghuls either miss or can't see him. "Ha! Stupid undead! Take that!"

Seeing Bizzle come to consciouness, Rysters nods to him. "Hang tight little buddy! Dis 'o one can't be seeing ya, and I'm about to shoot its friggin' head off!" If Bizzle were to delay, he might be able to save the spell. And since it's blind, he wouldn't have needed to cast defensiviely

Hal and his mount take down one of the ghuls and the ranger then focuses his next shots on another. He then sinks an arrow deep into the next and drops it as well! Hal and Cosmo then work together to finish off the last undead!

The ruins still tremble slightly, a sign that you still need to stabilize the dark iris object in the other room but the collapse has opened up a secret chamber you previously missed:

This secret room contains twelve stone coffins with twelve bodies resting inside. The coffins seem to prevent the bodies from decaying and their eyes are milky white.

DC 22 Heal or Spellcraft:
A side-effect of blindness/deafness.

The coffins contain seven potions of cure serious wounds, three potions of remove curse, a wand of break enchantment (5 charges), a wand of freedom of movement (7 charges), a wand of lesser restoration (14 charges), a wand of searing light (13 charges, CL 10th), a wand of shield of faith (42 charges), and a large bronze key. There is also a jar of restorative ointment.

"Bizzle, you can take this wand." wand of freedom of movement.

"I've already taken these two wands." lesser restoration and searing light "But I guess I should take that wand of shield of faith instead. I think I'm the only one who can use it. Here, Ryster, you take the wand of lesser restoration instead of me."

"Halbarad, you get to carry the key and the jar of restorative ointment."

"Everyone ready?" Cosmo lights his pipe again and starts smoking contentedly.

I see that Halbarad is still hurt. I will mark off 1 charge from my wand of infernal healing. Gain 10 hp, over the course of 1 min.

Halbarad has the most hp, is the highest level, and has fantastic saves. I don't want to volunteer someone else, but he might be the best choice.

"Given that there are these blinded corpses in here, I suspect there is probably a blindness effect involved in this device." Cosmo takes a big puff of his pipe. "If so, do we have a way to deal with that?"

Probably CL 7th, so 70 minutes. Still pretty good.

"I will volunteer," Halbarad overtures, wiping his mouth after gulping down the potion of remove curse. He rifles through his pack and pulls out a crowbar, handing it to Ryster. "Take this and stand outside, in case the whole temple collapses prematurely. Th'reiwa-don, go with him."

Hal takes a moment to modify his map. "Perhaps we should figure out what is going on with these folks first? If we have time?" he asks, the charcoal scratching across the parchment.

Heal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 definitely dead?

The wand of break enchantment will come in handy for the blindness/deafness, I think.

Ryster relaxes a little, reloads his gun, then shoulders the weapon. "Well that a nice little warm-up! What's next!?"

Grinning at Bizzle, he chuckles a little. "Good job there, little buddy! Always trying ta take a dirt nap!" Ruffling the gnome's hair, Ryster's grin goes away for a split second. "Glad your ok, though."

The dwarf's eyes widen a little as the Professor begins piling items into his arms. "Eh, er, ok, thanks." Stowing the items, he pulls out a wand and uses it on himself.

When Halbarad volunteers to take part in the ritual, Ryster coughs on a laugh and smacks the elf on the back. "Glad I'm not the stupidest one on this mission! Go get 'em tiger!"

Taking the elf's belongings, Ryster begins backing up, while watching with intense interest.

The people are definitely dead but no one can tell anything unusual about them except that some magical effect has been put in place to prevent them decaying.

You are now able to recover the torc from the broken statue and place it on the third table, with the tablets on another. Hal then takes his position lying down and as he does so the cylinder begins to swirl with renewed vigor. . . Hal can feel some of his energy being sapped by the device but at the same time you can feel the tremors stopping and can see the dust settling. The resonant humming and vibrating has ceased and the temple seems safe once again.
