Brayden Baxon |
Taking Uori's use of 'Low Azlanti' to mean the gillmen, Brayden continues, "Thank you for your welcome Uori. Truth be told we have come as explorers hoping to learn why you, and other Low Azlanti, would journey so far inland then into a cave in Mount Kortos. Prior to five minutes ago we had no knowledge of Aroden's connection to this site. Pardon my lack of understanding, but is this place sacred to you because it was a temple to Aroden, or for another reason?"
GM Enchanter |
"The waters are sacred to us. We hold no reverence for the human god, though we have noticed the remnants of his worship here." He points to the miniature city filled with various trinkets.
"We do feel some of the remains of his worship here, but this place has now been overrun by other creatures. But no, our god speaks to us though the sacred waters. I have made the journey here to listen to them." He motions to the pool where he's standing.
"By all means, you may engage in your own prayers, but please do not defile the waters."
Ford C. Benett |
Ford seems somewhat relieved at the gillman's welcoming nature, clapping a fist to his chest and bowing back. "Well met, Uroi. My name is Ford Benett, future successor to Aroden. As Brayden says, we were curious as to why you were here. A friend of ours noticed you entering here every full moon... I suppose because the waters here are at their holiest during this time?"
Making a knowledge check to see if I can't rack my brain as to why a gillman would be praying here for any reason... I suspect most likely to Aroden, so I'm hoping that sheds some light on things.
Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
And an appropriate fail on my part...
Ford looks up at the rest of the caverns, scowling a little at the mention of other inhabitants. "Other creatures defile this twice holy ground? Not while I draw breath. What lurks down here that would ruin such a sacred spot?"
GM Enchanter |
Uori shrugs. "The normal things which dwell in caves like this. Insects, fungus." He points to one of the centipedes around the cave, but then pauses and frowns. "A few pilgrims have disappeared on their journey here. I fear something is taking them. If you can help, I would be grateful."
"The waters are no more holy at full moon, but it is a special time for us to come and listen to them."
The explanation seems to agree with what little Kaneka knows of the gillman religion. She also notes the same feeling as she had at the carvings when she gazes on the city shrine. Whatever worship of Aroden was done here previously is definitely centered on the shrine.
The shrine is marked by the cross on the map. Sorry I didn't mention it before.
GM Enchanter |
Uroi shakes his head. "No one knows. Pilgrims come alone to worship." He points to the left and right. "But the caves do go deeper in both directions."
Ford C. Benett |
"I will not have humble pilgrims attacked at their place of worship. Especially if such a place is sacred ground to Aroden. Please continue your prayers, Uroi. We shall see to it you and no others are distrubed here." Ford says with authority, stamping his spear into the ground before moving alongside Ragnar to seek out the dangers of the cavern.
GM Enchanter |
Uori bows his head. "May you find what you are searching for as well." He returns to his position in the pool.
Next part to come later today. That was left on the map, correct?
Draylan Gossamar |
it was a random choice for direction, so let's say... left as our characters are facing south, talking to the gillman... therefore RIGHT on the map as the players view it. I also moves my token to the side with Ragnar.
GM Enchanter |
The cave’s damp air becomes increasingly stale as the group continues down through this tunnel, and as they approach this area, the stench of decay grows increasingly evident. The passage turns to the east and opens into a small cavern littered with bits of broken glass, rotting pieces of paper, and other unusable detritus. A body lies facedown toward the back of the cavern. Surrounding him are two skeletons and a pair of zombies. They look at you with hunger.
New Map and we're in combat!

Ford gave a small curse under his breath as he saw the undead creatures. "It had to be the undead... of course. It can't be helped..." Stepping forward, Ford reached up and placed his hand on Draylan's shoulder, shimmering with divine energy as it spread to the rest of Draylan. "When the forces of darkness rise, so too shall good select it's own champion. For now, you are that champion..."
Using a use of Bit of Luck on Draylan. Be sure to use it to kick their butts.
Ragnar Northman |
Ragnar draws his heavy mace while moving into the room. He swings his weapon against zombie 4.
I marked Ragnar's steps with a line, should not provoke an AoO.
Attack Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
GM Enchanter |
BTW, the burning silhouette is the corpse.
Ragnar's strike slams into the zombie's body, but the walking corpse doesn't seem to be hurt in the same way a living creature would be. It snarls at the ranger.
The skeletons moves quickly up to Ragnar, sensing his life. They try to tear at him with sharp bony claws, but they cannot get through his armor.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

She'll draw an AOO from Skeleton #1 if she moves to hit a zombie.
Draylan Gossamar |
Draylen will move to location (I already moved token) then attempt to trip zombie 4 with guisarmee, hoping to provoke aoo's from all around when it stands, if successful.
trip #4: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
please add bit of luck from Ford, not sure what that does at this time
Draylan Gossamar |
looked it up, if 1st roll doesn't hit, please use this roll. If 1st roll succeeds with trip, please use this roll for any aoo as a trip against that enemy.
bit of luck: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Draylan Gossamar |
Since Ragnar's hit didn't seem to do as much damage as expected. does anyone have a knowledge check to see what's going on. knowledge: religion is probably the best choice... Hint, Hint... Clerics!
GM Enchanter |
Skeleton, AOO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Kaneka moves in swiftly to strike at the zombie, but receives a nasty gash in the shoulder from the bony skeleton. She slams the zombie in the face with her fist, but it doesn't seem to faze it.
Draylan moves up and swings his polearm at the feet of one of the zombies. The walking corpse is no where near agile enough to avoid it and it comes crashing down!
The one zombie tries to regain its feet, providing an opening. The other one attacks Kaneka, slamming her in the ribs. The cleric slumps to the ground.
vs Kaneka: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
AOOs for Draylan and Ragnar. And since Draylan mentioned it:
Zombies can be hurt better by slashing weapons. Skeletons by blunt weapons.

Did my 1st attack hit? Just wondering if you need another roll for the aoo? Here it is, in case the "bit of luck" was used on the 1st trip attack roll.
aoo trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
"KANEKA! Let's get these things dispatched, so we can help her!"
Brayden Baxon |
Stepping into the chamber and past Draylan, Brayden turns toward the skeletons and throws a bomb just past them, hoping to damage them while protecting his allies.
target intersection directly behind skel #1 and skel #2, hitting both with splash fire damage if successful.
bomb - ranged touch vs AC 5: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9
splash damage, refl 14 for 1/2: 1d1 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
GM Enchanter |
Draylan, you did need the reroll to trip him. Also, the AOO you're taking right now is against him prone, so tripping him again doesn't really do too much. AOOs resolve before the action which provoke them, so your AOO is before he actually stands. You can take a normal attack if you wish.
Reflex 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Reflex 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Fire explodes behind the skeletons scorching their bones. One of them looks more charred than the others, but both still stand.
GM Enchanter |
As the zombie struggles to rise, Draylan neatly decapitates it, the rotting head bouncing off the cave wall.
Ragnar and Ford are up, and Ragnar still has an AOO from last round.
Ragnar Northman |
AoO
Ragnar turns around an tries to hit the skeleton 2 with his heavy mace.
Attack Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
normal turn
And another swing with his mace.
Attack Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
GM Enchanter |
Hmm, seems like I can't run maps from a phone. This might be interesting for the rest if the week. Can someone delete Skeleton 2?
Ragnar turns and destroys the skeleton with his mace. It shatters and the bones collapse.

Ford C. Benett |
Ford spies Kaneka take a nasty blow from one of the undead scourge, and frowns. Not necessarily in disappointment, but perhaps the closest he could display to worry. Walking calmly through the fray, Ford drew his wand of healing and knelt down beside her. "Save your strength, and your wand. I shall take care of such concerns, milady." he says, tapping the wand to Kaneka's skin.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Totally worth that AoO!
Brayden Baxon |
I believe the undead are up before me; assuming I am still standing after they go, below is my action
Brayden draws his sickle and slashes at the zombie in front of him.
sickle: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
GM Enchanter |
Kaneka, you're unconscious and prone right now, though Ford is just about to change that.
The skeleton claws at Ford as he moves and then claws at him again. His armor turns two of the blows but the skeleton is able to tear a large chunk of his skin.
AOO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
His healing, however, does work and Kaneka opens her eyes.

The zombie lunges at Brayden, but he deftly avoids its arms. In return, the alchemist sends his sickle deep into the corpse and then rips it out, dropping several organs to the ground. The zombie collapses.

Removed zombie and skeleton
Ragnar starts searching the room for any evidenct what could have killed the creature lying on the ground.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Ford C. Benett |
Ford winces a little as he feels where the skeleton had wounded him. Turning his wand to himself, he inhaled and concentrated, restoring himself to a less critical condition. "Does anyone else need my might? I shall see to it that you're all restored."
Turning to Kaneka, he says a little quieter. "Are you alright? I was worried when I saw you so badly wounded..."
