Bedlam Bottomland |

Bedlam pockets his share. He looks sternly at any who seem to be lingering over the coins too long.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
After the coins are distributed evenly, Bedlam will head over to the stables grumbling:
Me legs are the way to hunt properly.
Seems unsavory to hunt from high off thee ground.

BoulderShoulder |

Sten smiles and claps Bedlam on the back. "I couldn't have said it better. Now the sooner we get out there, the sooner we can get back to more important things."

Karl Sarvo |

Walking out of the Rusty Dragon and into the sunlit streets of Sandpoint, gave Karl a better perspective of the town without all the decorations, overflowing number of stalls and the bustling crowds. This was more or less the true face of Sandpoint, not because they had just survived an attack, but because they had just suffered through one. One could always tell the mettle of men after witnessing them fall and get up and to Karl this was no different in a town.
Generally, the mood and spirits of the town seemed to be intact and hopeful...Not cheerful though Karl shuffled past a couple of men who recognized him and thanked him for his part in defending the town, he offered the a nod of recognition Well at least this hero business is making me popular Stalking ahead he shifted his thoughts to other things I wonder if I can get more jobs from this nobleman he seems like the well paying type It was then that he heard Sten speak to Bedlam.
"Oh I don't know getting a bag of gold seems pretty important, don't ya agree Loupe?" He turned to face the merchant dragging him into the conversation.

Loupe Ardoc |

appraise red gem: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
appraise white gem: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
appraise silver ring: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Loupe, with a well-trained, merchant's eye evaluates the gems.
"Huh. Good news - those gems are worth more than we thought, I've got a cousin who I could get a good price from. Bad news - they're not going to be easy to split up, and it's going to take while. I've been trying to do sales for my group here" Loupe indicates with a head sweep who he means "I could do this for everyone if you want."
"Also, anyone happen to be good at detecting auras? That ring looks suspicious and I'm more into creation and destruction than peeking."
Peeking, of course, being a derogatory term for the esteemed school of Divination.

"Only auras of Evil, I'm afraid. My lady has given me no gift for magic. I am happy to trust you if the rest of my party"
Anders uses detect Evil on the ring anyway. You never know...it could be a baby mimic, lol

BoulderShoulder |

"I am in the same quarry as this here man. My lord Torag gifts me with many fine attributes, the working of magic not being one of them."

Bedlam Bottomland |

Bedlam bows to Loupe Ardoc.
Aye, Me specialties lay in another--more mechanical--nature.
Bedlam then motions to Anders.
If thee Paladin approves then we would be honored for your assistance, good Wizard.

Katrin looks at the jewels and says, "I'm not the sort to object to getting more coin in my purse. Surely if we can not appraise these gems on our own we can take them to a jeweler and have them take a look. They would know the most about Gems and their value on the market."

Karl Sarvo |

Loupe grins
"Yep. It's not so much the gold as what you can do with it. Golems are expensive! How about you?"
Raising his right hand in a fist in front of his face "Travel expenses" His thumb unclenched "Gear expenses" His index finger followed suit "Lodging expenses" The middle finger joined the first two "Other expenses" Karl's ring finger rose "And of course entertainment expenses" An open hand met the face of Karl as he gave half a grin to Loupe.
Surely if we can not appraise these gems on our own we can take them to a jeweler and have them take a look. They would know the most about Gems and their value on the market."
"And tell the world that we've got three expensive gems?" Chuckled the mercenary "I say we pick six of us, one gem for each two and we go at different times during the day, that way the whole world won't know how rich we've suddenly become"

![]() |

"Not sure that would work. Town like this, they don't likely get more than 1 gem a week to be appraised. Six on the same day? they'll know something is up and rumours'll be all across town within an hour. Not to mention that it must be common knowledge that Lord Foxglove has rewarded us handsomely - that's already probably a rumour making it's rounds. I say we just get it over and done with, no fuss, no bother and no attempt to make it look sinister - which will only magnify it in the eyes of the people."

"Agreed. Keep things above board so we keep the loyalty of the locals. We'll need their help in the long run." Sacerdos adds. The cleric extends a hand for the ring. "Perhaps I can be of assistance regardingthe ring's nature?"
If he's allowed to inspect it, he'll cast Detect Magic and consider what he knows of such implements.

GM BigBusMan |

The Red Gem is a Ruby worth approx 500 gp
The white Gem is a diamond worth aprox 1000gp
the silver ring appears to be a plain silver ring worth aprox 15 gp
You cast detect evil and do not detect any evil.
You do not recognize the ring as having any religious significance, however you find that the ring gives off a slight magical aura.

BoulderShoulder |

"Or we could just keep the gems around and liquidate them when the need arises. Unless you are all suggesting you will not be in town long." The surly dwarf gives each and every one of the flighty short lived humans a stern look, and two for the half-orc just to be sure.

Loupe Ardoc |

Loupe blinks
"Sure. If you want a second opinion you can ask someone. Ruby this size, this cut - not perfectly flawless but pretty close. Find a buyer and you'd get 500 crowns for it."
"The diamond's easier. Look at the size of it. We find someone who needs it as a component and we could easily get a thousand."
Loupe pauses a second as he adds it in his mind, then swears loudly
"Nearly TWO THOUSAND" he whispers quietly. "Even split 8 ways that's some serious money."

Karl Sarvo |

"I agree, the job isn't going to finish it self" Karl fingered the broad side of his axe as he continued walking, increasing the speed of his long strides, his face carrying a small scowl, he didn't like the idea of taking someone on a 'hunt' but he was hired for a job, paid for the job and he was going to do the job, that is all there was to it.

Sacerdos Echthileon |

Sacerdos hands the ring over to the half-orc. "A slight magical aura is all I detect. But it's uses do not lay in circles in which I traffic. If you find nothing else, I will be happy to investigate it further. Such things may hold puzzles that can challenge the mind and keep it sharp."
The cleric follows the group towards the stables, studying the newcomers without comment or judgment. Simply allowing their words and actions to paint the picture.
If it helps, Sacerdos is not interested in personal wealth other than what it takes to live and keep him in the fight. So if you want to have him hold the items, he'll accept. You can sense motive on him as much as you want, but you'll only come up with him being a honest man. If asked, he'll say yes, but will probably suggest we leverage our contact with the Sheriff for its safekeeping.

Karl Sarvo |

The frown upon Karl's face deepened as soon as he saw the stables before them, of course hearing someones displeasure with the idea of getting horses made the whole ordeal a touch easier to bear You'd think he'd let us guard him on foot, well if we're ever overwhelmed we can at least make a quick getaway on these beasts But escape wasn't what worried Karl, it was attempting to fight while riding a horse that made him fret, of course that reason wasn't the sole reason for long, especially when the smell of the place slapped his nostrils without warning.
"Bedlam is there any real reason why someone would hunt on horseback?" Asked Karl, as he rubbed at his semi beard, his eyes looking at the stable doors.

![]() |

Katrin looks to Karl and says, "The answer to that is fairly simple Karl. A horse can move faster than a person allowing one to travel further distances as well as keep up with the speed of the prey. In addition being on a mount can provide a high-ground making it easier to attack those who are on foot as well as easier to strike a more vital location, in this case the head."

Karl Sarvo |

"Which are things that we can more or less accomplish if we simply sneak up on our prey, by getting horses we are simply trading stealth for mobility to achieve the same goal" Replied Karl as he turned his body to face Katrin "If I had to choose I'd almost always pick stealth" He said, a wicked grin appearing on his bearded face
"But since teaching our employer the fine art of moving through the shadows is a lot harder, we're stuck with horses" Sighed Karl, before knocking on the doors to the stable.

Vishoon |

Vishoon follows the others to the Stables. A dumb way to hunt, but its a free horse and chance for more gold, can't pass that up he thinks. Then he will check out the stable since he hasn't really been in a real stable before.

Loupe Ardoc |

"Huh. You know" Loupe continues on his favorite topic "that's almost enough money to set up a proper shop, take some apprentices. Trouble is there just isn't enough cargo transport to justify any real industry here."
"Someone should set up a proper trading house. If they could protect the Caravans they could make a killing."
Loupe looks thoughtfully suddenly
"Half of you guys are out of work mercs, right?"

BoulderShoulder |

Bowing out sadly, it has been a month since anything happened with this game and I am reusing sten in a reign of winter campaign now. Been fun, and I will always remember the karl conversations with and about him.
