"You lot stand to make a thousand gold for a few minutes of your time and you want us to leave?" Elaina wishes they weren't on different ships so she could teach the man some manners. Still, she wanted to get back to shore as quickly as possible. She's pretty sure she saw a long tentacle in the water. "That's interesting. Do you always presume to make Vark's business decisions for him?"

The thugs look enraged by a tiny slip of a girl like Elaina threatening them, and let loose with two crossbow bolts, one aiming at Elaina, the other at Valghaz.

Thug #2 crossbow attack at Valghaz: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 (MISS) for 1d8 ⇒ 3 damage.

One of the bolts cuts a groove into Elaina's arm before landing in the water, while the other misses Valghaz entirely, thudding into the side of the rowboat. The thug that's been talking (#1) reloads his crossbow and sneers at you, while the other calls out, "We got trouble out here!" and moves out of sight.

For the time being at least, no map. Your rowboat is right up next to the Nixie. There are plenty of ropes to climb if you so desire - it's 10 feet up to the deck. It's a DC 10 Climb check to climb up the ropes. Remember that you Climb at 1/4 your normal movement speed, or at 1/2 speed if you take a -5 penalty to your Climb check.

Annoyed, Valghaz yelled out a prayer to Merodach. His hammer began to softly glow with a blue light as he chanted. With a roar he finished the prayer and threw his earthbreaker at the thug whom he could still see. The hammer, guided not by his hand but by his god, struck the thug square in the face. With a spray of blood the man fell to the deck, his crossbow falling out of his limp hands. The hammer landed next to him, only to vanish a moment later and reappear in Valghaz's hands.

Arenel nimbly climbs up the ropes as well.

The Blue Nixie's main deck is about 80 feet long and 30 feet wide. The man who moved out of sight (thug #2) is at a closed door under the quarterdeck. Chan quickly throws a shuriken at the man, and the bladed weapon sinks into his chest with a spurt of blood. The man lets out a pained yell and drops to his knees. "I surrender! Please! Don't kill me like you did Jhack!"

As he surrenders, a woman (thug #3) on the quarterdeck shoots a crossbow bolt into Chan's right shoulder, the bolt lodging painfully.

The door behind the surrendering thug opens, and two more men (thugs #4 & #5) come out, rapiers in hand. They nearly trip over the man on his knees, but shove him aside and look ready to fight.

You came up midship. It's 30 feet to the door the two thugs came from, and about 50 feet (and up some stairs) to the female thug on the quarterdeck. Under the forecastle (which looks empty) you see some stairs leading down into the hold. There is also a 10' grate in the deck that presumably leads to the hold.

Another man exits from the door, an ugly snarl on his face. He quickly glances around, taking in the situation, and yells out, "Burn them! Burn them all!" From the descriptions you've been given, this is Soller Vark.

Vark sizes the group up and his eyes fall on Arya...clearly the one most at home on the ship. He closes on her, and she springs into action, her rapier piercing Vark's side. He grunts in pain, but uses the attack as an opportunity to return the favor and sink his rapier into her as well.

Chan's jaw drops at the decimation caused by Valghaz's blow. "Thank you, my friend," he manages to say as he seeks cover, confidant in the group's ability to take down Vark.

At exactly 0 hp, Chan uses his single action to take cover behind a crate or barrel.

"You'd be smart to give up now. But then again Vark what I've heard of you doesn't strike me as intelligent." Arenel said as she took the metal whip off her belt. She raised her tattooed arm and snapped her figures, lights flashed before Vark's eyes.

Daze, DC 13. Also is anyone else have trouble with the games not updating?

Vark Will save vs daze: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Valghaz's brutally efficient attack sprays blood all over Vark, who nonetheless manages to nimbly dodge the combined attacks of Elaina and Arya. However, Arenel's magic seems to catch him by surprise, and his eyes glaze over as he stares dumbly ahead.

The woman Mimi is threatening makes no move, other than to say, "I surrender."

Shrieks of monkeys and parrots begin to well up from the hold below.

Party up.

There's a bug on the forums keeping people from seeing the "X new" tag on a thread. I believe they're slated to fix it today.

Also, I posted this in the Discussion thread, but it was probably not seen because of the bug. Please remember to roll saves for enemies when you produce an effect that requires it (such as daze on Vark, or color spray on the thugs) - it's why I include the saves in the top of the posts. This way, you can describe what happens with your spell, and other characters can react appropriately. Thanks!

"Enough o' this!" With his bloody hammer raised, Valghaz makes a line straight for Vark. The man, already dazed by Arenel, stood little chance against the dwarf. The hammer swung out, catching the man in the back. A sickening *crunch* could be heard as the hammer hit true, sending the man falling to the deck.

"Anyone else want to try their luck?!"

That should put Vark down to -3HP. If nobody else makes the move, I'll stabilize him. Following that I'll expend my daily spells to heal our wounds, which should keep me busy for a few rounds while the rest of you do what else needs to be done.

Wrecked.

After Valghaz brings Vark low, he reaches out a hand and stabilizes the foul man. The shrieks from the hold grow louder, and suddenly a terrific crash echoes through the ship, followed by a woman's high-pitched scream and a strange, shrill keening.

Mimi takes the woman's crossbow and ammunition, but before anything else can occur, the sounds from the hold attract her attention.

She turns back to the woman. "I'll look to your injuries, but first, what is going on down in the hold?"

Worried about Chan's wounds, Valghaz first goes over to the man and starts muttering prayer's to his god. The monk's wounds begin to heal, and confident that the injuries would not be fatal, the dwarf moved away.

He went to the nearest sailor who had surrendered and waved his hammer at the man's face. "Ye there! Tell us what's below deck."

And with that my luck ran out. Any chance for a circumstantial bonus on that intimidate check due to the crit that they just witnessed?

Elaina grows frustrated as the direct sources of her anger are dead, or seemingly dead. "Why did you kill them? Now who's gonna buy me a new top?" she asks Valghaz.

"Well!" Elaina breathes. She leans forward with her fists - one still clutching the hilt of her curved blade - on her hips and declares "You're the meanest person I've ever met!" She turns on one foot and marches away. "I'm going to save whomever is downstairs. Then they'll want to reward me. It's probably lady Rebvorn anyways I bet they kidnapped her."

With Vark dealt with, and the rest of his crew dead or subdued, Arya stands idle, catching her breath. She looks down at the fierce wound in her side and groans.
"Valghaz, if you have any more of that healing magic?"
She waits patiently for aid. Growing nervous of the noises now emanating from below.

On the subject of rolling saves for enemies, would it be possible to get the Sense Motive or combined BAB + Wis mod, whichever is higher, up there with the standard saves in future combats? That way I'll be able to calculate whether my feints succeed and describe my attacks in full too. Thanks!

Valghaz glares at Elaina, his face going red with anger. "And ye...ye...ye!" His anger was so great that he finished his outburst in dwarven. {Dwarven}"May your son have the beard of an elf!" Still muttering to himself he walked over to Arya, swinging his hammer as it went and glaring at the surrendered crew.

He then went to work, praying for Arya's wounds. His mind must have been otherwise occupied while doing so, as while the wound healed, it still left a giant, painful bruise in its place.

"There ye go lass. Can't do anythin' more until I've got some rest. Merodach's powers be great, but me body can only channel so much of it. Take it easy on that until I can tend to it again later."

After that much damage, Valghaz can be excused for no longer being able to tell the corpse's gender. And damn, my dice were hot and now they're cold.

Arenel walked over and placed a hand on Valghaz's shoulder {Dwarven}"You're assuming she'd even have children."{Dwarven} She laughed a bit to help lighten the man up before moving over to one of the thugs.

"Right now, tell me what and who you have below and I won't turn you over to the guards."
