no love from the dice... can you take 10 on knowledge checks?
"What about ramming this ship in to the rock to crack it open?"
| Solaria Jesari |
"Ted, what good would cracking the rock open do, other than create two pieces of floating debris rather than one. No we search the ship first, make sure all is clear here, in case we have to return to it quickly." the young lashunta says with a voice starting to gain some authority. "It's what we used to do in the hotel complex, clear up before continued with other work. That's what we can do here."
She turns to her companions "Isu, Spectre there is reward for finding the cargo, or so you say from the Eoxian ambassador. So lead on and let's make the ship as safe as we can, before we start to explore the rock. I suggest you take the right turning out of here." She pulls her clothes tight, "We might meet more of these things, best be on our toes." she smiles weakly at the thought of more Akata, but they must move on... and Isu and Spectre seems motivated by credits.
Isu Greelax Zyte
|
I think you have me confused with Grix!
Isu stands. "Are we ready to continue exploring the ship, then? There may still be more of those monsters aboard. This one believes it would be prudent to start in the room closest to hear, and head toward the stern, clearing room after room so nothing can get us from behind."
| Grix Krizvit |
Grix's faceted eyes gleam at Ted's suggestion, at least until he takes a look around the ship the group is currently in. "That's IS the khind of ekhciting move I'd likhe to try. But this hulkh is more likhely to khrackh open itself before the Drift Rokh does. A real shame."
Hearing Isu's readiness, Grix pipes up with "Rested Isu? Wonderful! Please lead the way and stand between us and any more tentakhle beasts."
Map north-east sounds like a good place to start.
Isu Greelax Zyte

Isu does indeed lead the way into the north-east quadrant of the ship. He stops at the first door and listens.
If he hears nothing, he will open it. If he hears anything suspicious, he will pause to consult the group.

Spectre nods once.
"We should secure the rest of the ship. Perhaps we will discover additional clues. However, the odds of there being survivors are low. Very low."
| GM Snowheart |
Isu listens at the door and hears nothing. But, when he opens the door, he hears high-pitched hysterical screaming and a blast of laser fire splatters against the bulkheads and door, one beam missing the kasatha's head by centimeters.
Not yet in combat but can easily go that way.

Arcalinte Soter
|
Arcalinte follows after Isu and then blinks in surprise when they're shot at, followed by frantic goblin voices.
"Eekz? Eekz, is that you?!" he asks.
| Solaria Jesari |
"Isu, you alright, what was that? And what's that chattering noise?" says Solaria, surprised by what sounds like a creature trying to talk.
Isu Greelax Zyte
|
Isu reflexively ducks down, though it is clear the goblins could have hit him if they wanted to. That is the only thing that stops him from throwing his grenade, which he holds in one of his hands. He steps to the right of the door, so he is concealed, and yells to the others,"This one is throwing this grenade in 10 seconds unless one of you wants to intercede!"
Ted Under
|
Ted laughs, "Now this is the welcome I was expecting! Spec, don't shoot the friendlies."
He motions his top to begin spinning up for an attack.
Arcalinte Soter
|
"Wait, wait, hold your fire!" Arcalinte says. "We might know one of these space goblins!"
He goes over to the door and knocks.
"Hey! Hello in there! Any of you speak Galactic Common?"
| Grix Krizvit |
Grix bends over near Arc's shoulder (Arc, looks like your token isn't next to the door) and rasps out "Eekz, if that's you, I hope you know that ditching your allies to takhe a solo job is bad form! Plus, this one is ours, got it?"
From the immediate laser fire, Grix is not putting a whole lot of hope on this being Eekz. He looks over his shoulder "How did the goblins get past the akhatas anyway?"
| GM Snowheart |
| 2 people marked this as a favorite. |
As much as I'd love to have the gobos include Eekz, the timing of it just doesn't work. :-(
The screeching subsides slightly and, in very broken common, one of the voices yells back, "No Eekz here. Just us not gobos. No gobos in here. And you no throw grenade at not gobos!!!" It is, very obviously, a goblin's voice.
When Sydney speaks in Goblin, she gets a response back in the same language:
Arcalinte Soter

Arcalinte rolls his eyes a bit, then looks at Sydney.
"If they're plotting to attack us, could you please tell them how suicidally dumb that idea is? They'll probably be more inclined to listen if we negotiate in their tongue."
| Solaria Jesari |
"If those things have got trapped by the akatas, then they might be happy to to have longshanks protecting them til we leave." Solaria says loudly to Sydney. "How in Akiton's name did they get here?" she ponders out loud.

"They were probably supposed to be food for the dogs," Ted mutters as he puts away his weapons. "How many calories is a goblin, Spec?"

Sydney silently motions her head towards the door and reaches to touch the gun holster on her left leg.
| Grix Krizvit |
Quietly, Grix responds to Ted with "You would be surprised how few. They're mostly hot air and foul intentions. Diffikhult to pikh out of your teeth though, kehe." It's difficult to tell if he's being serious.
With his inability understand Sydney's exchange with the goblins, Grix prepares for the worst, holding his pistol at the ready.

Spectre's head swivels toward Ted.
"Calories are determined by the energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water through 1 °C, or 4.1868 joules. I would not be able to calculate the total number of calories in a goblin without knowing the weight of the goblin."
He looks back to the doorway. "It could be calculated, though."
| GM Snowheart |
There is some whispered conversation in Goblin then louder, also in Goblin, "You sound like good longshanks. We decide not kill you for now. You go kill blue monsters that eat Rita Kinda-Bad. They on ship when we get here. Attack us and eat Rita. We hide here. We very hungry, no food for days, so good you come now."
Then, after a moment, it continues in Goblin, "But me think we keep guns for now. Is okay. You trust us. We not kill nice longshanks after you kill blue monsters and we not take your things to sell for big credits."

Much less impressive descendant of legendary goblin hero Reta Bigbad, I presume? :D
Grix chitters quietly "They plan to khill whoever fought through the akata they khouldn't fight themselves? Not the brightest stars in the skhy, are they? Eekz would have run circles around these goblins..." Grix finds himself missing the strange, slightly less wild goblin that had briefly joined the group.
The thought is dispelled with the blast of Isu's grenade going off. "Ah. There we go." He holds in place and waits for the crazed goblins to surge out of the room.
Arcalinte Soter

I actually met her and the other "We be Goblins" crew in the Rise of the Runelords game I'm in. We fought them for a bit and then came to an accord when they wised up to how suicidal fighting our party was!
Arcalinte sighs again as Sydney and Isu begin the battle.
"I'd hoped we could talk them down, but it looks like they're too proud or stupid to take the opportunity. Ah well, they brought this on themselves."
He waits for Isu's grenade to go off before moving in.
| Solaria Jesari |
With so many of her companions cramped into the small corridor, Solaria waits at the intersection, in case she is needed.
| GM Snowheart |
Also, I'm sorry for the delay in the follow-up. I got slammed at work on Friday and, while I honestly should be working while at work, weekends at home are mostly occupied with house chores and the toddler.
Isu tosses in a grenade followed by a blast from Sydney's rifle.
Sydney, I adjusted your location just by 5' in order to give you line of sight into the room. With all the PCs bunched up, it was impossible to see a wall that was blocking your view of the door and the gobos.
They begin screeching in rage at the sudden and inevitable betrayal -- having expected it to be the other way around -- and raise their laser pistols to fire.
I'll give the rest of the PCs (other than Isu and Sydney) an action in a surprise round, then we'll go into initiative. I want to resolve your surprise round actions before going into round 1, but you're going to get a good hammering in on them.

"Hostile targets anticipated," Spectre drones.
The droid advances down the hallway, nearing the goblins.
surprise round, so just a single move action...
| GM Snowheart |
Okay. Arc is swamped with work so we'll call that the surprise round.
Sydney's rifle blast drops one of the goblins in the blink of an eye, the focused beam of light blasting through the gobo's patchwork armor like it was paper. Isu tosses in his grenade and you can feel the thump of its concussive effect through the deckplating. Into the chaos, Ted sends a ray of magical energy, further wounding the other goblin in the room. It shrieks in rage, splittle splattering on the interior of its fish-bowl like helmet.
Your turn, top of round 1.

Round 1:
A bloodthirsty look crosses Sydney's face as her Surprise shot instantly take out one of the goblins. Yes. More. Sydney is hit by a burst of adrenaline. She starts laughing maniacally and shoots again, acting a bit recklessly. Syndey jumps around, left, right, up, down, trying to confuse her opponent with her acrobatics.

Syndey clears her throat and calms down after her wild shot. Calm down Sid. Get your head in the game. It's just goblins.
| Grix Krizvit |
I think Isu splattered it. There's no rolls to confirm crits in Starfinder, so that's just 18 damage.
Grix quivers his antennae towards Ted "A jokhe, a jokhe! I wouldn't eat a goblin. What do you takhe me for?"
Arcalinte Soter

Arcalinte joins the others in attacking the lone goblin, before shooting disturbed looks to Ted and Sydney.

Solaria, is shocked at the turn of violence, when their lives did not seem threatened, So this is what travelling the universe will be like. I'm not sure I'll like it, but I must learn and be strong. she thinks to herself. She steals herself and walks to see the devistation wrought out on the unfortunate goblins. Not that there is much she can see, other than splatters of green blood and flesh on the walls and floor. "How did they get here and survive." she ponders loudly.
| GM Snowheart |
By the time you're finished with it, the second goblin is well and truly dead. If you hadn't killed it, you might not know what it once was. Setting aside the carnage, you take a moment to survey the room and find it used to serve as crew quarters. It contains two simple bunks, a pair of lockers, a small sink and some sundry personal possessions of the disappeared crew.
Searching the room and the goblins' bodies turns up a few items of value: Incendiary Grenade I, 2x Shock Grenades I, Stickybomb Grenade I, 2x detonators, an engineering tool kit, a fire extinguisher, and 500 UPBs.
Arcalinte Soter
|
Arcalinte breathes a sigh of relief as the fight's over almost as soon as it started. When he hears Solaria's question, he nods.
"Space goblins, for all their nastiness, can be surprisingly ingenious when it comes to scavenging scrap. Perhaps they snuck aboard on a previous shuttle to the Acreon, or they made a crude spacecraft to get on here."
He begins searching the room more thoroughly.

Grix joins Arc in searching the 'goblin stronghold', which turns out to be fairly mundane. "Those goblins brought together khuite the haul! I bet they were just waiting on a chance to eskhape with their goods. Well, not anymore! We'll makhe much better use of these grenades and other things."
He also pulls a key card and credstick out from underneath a mattress. "This khard lookhs likhe it khould have been used to akhcess the Akhreon's systems. We handled that very professionally already" he peers at the drone to make sure it captures the group's adeptness "-but if we khome akhross any other systems, we khould get in without hakhing, most likhely. Khonvinient."
Arcalinte Soter

"We should probably turn that credstick in to the Collective. If its previous owner had family, they could probably use every bit of money they can get in the wake of losing a loved one. I know I could have when my mom passed. I had to get a job when I was freakin' twelve just to survive!"

Grix's claw freezes just as he was about to put the credstick in the pocket of his vest. He turns his antennae miserably towards Arc "You're very right Arc, very right. Though maybe they don't have any surviving family. Or their family has takhen a vow of poverty. Then we khan makhe the best use of it. It's possible, right?" He holds the credstick out so it can be taken away from him.
