"Good to meet you, Miss Lorien. You may call me Sorassa. No need for such formality among our unit." The gnome smiles and accepts the firm handshake, respecting it. She is curious about this beautiful woman and continues to observe her as she speaks to the group as a whole.
"Mister Rowan, can you tell us more about the Baroness and Council members? As Miss Lorien has stated an expert from the origin country may be useful to our investigations into these parasites."
Genevive smiles a dazzling smile and says Then you must also call me Genevive.

"I said get to work - and that means youuuu...." you hear echoing down the halls into the lab for some unknown reason.
It seems Mister Rowan is not very pleased at niceties - he wants action! You suspect that with the Council needing answers quickly - he feels that any delays could be problematic.
Naturally - after you grab your gear and hop into the coach - you'll have time for such introductions on the road! Of course - first you'll have to talk to the elf with the spectacles. And though he offered tea - he hasn't even introduced himself.
This is all very confusing - but at least no one is getting killed...
- yet...

Meanwhile –
Miss DeLight quickly ushers the party down a hall of an unfinished building and into a large room with various crates, boxes, tables, tools, bottles, burners and (of course) – schematics! Clearly – it is a lab…
Working in a corner was a wiry looking fellow with a long jacket.
When you approach, he turns and looks up in a surprise; you see it is an elven fellow, and he is wearing spectacles.
”Ah – good afternoon; welcome my laboratory – I’m pleased to meet you all. Clearly you’re here to pick up your gear? Excellent – while I attend to it – please – let me know if there are any questions you would like me to answer? Ah - this reminds me - care for any tea?”
His tone is polite – his accent cultured – his manners refined – and his smile charming.
Clearly, this is a fellow well suited to the nuances of providing all manner of intriguing gear to the heroes on their next mission… you suspect that he’ll be better to answer your questions then others will.
If his name is Q or anything like that...I may just have to scream.
Genevive graciously accepts a cup of tea and says Thank you sir. Now what, pray tell, do you do for the good Master Rowan?

"Ah, young lady - my name is, as you may have guessed... "Hugh"..."
"That said; my job is quite simple - I create gear and other... unique gadgetry for the uses of the S.I.D." he adds, sipping some tea.
"Ah - for example - this..." he adds, lifting a small case. Inside you see a series of four small glass tubes with a clear liquid in it.
"This liquid is a catalyst - if you apply a chemical to it - it will display the chemical properties and potentials of a compound."
Seeing your rather bored look - his eyes widen.
"Ah! But - perhaps that is a bit too cerebral - let me show something more... technical?" he adds.
He picks up a small bracelet sized piece of gear - with various straps and some metal springs, which he takes over to Euwag. Taking the small wrist in his slender fingers - the elf "Hugh" - buckles it on the goblin.
You observe that the buckles and what is strapped to it slide neatly into the sleeve.
"Now - Mister Bloorat - if you twitch your wrist?" he adds, as Euwag does with a shrug.
A sudden flash and something springs forward into Euwag's hand; it is a dagger!
"Ah - very good - quite nice, actually. Indeed - you look very dapper Mister Bloorat!" he adds.
The strapped bracelet - when buckled - grants you a +4 to your ability to "Conceal Weapons" - if you buckle on a small-sized light weapon of your choice - dagger, stilleto, throwing star - etcetera. The weapon then moves directly into your hand as a Free Action - and you are free to use it however you wish.
"I have only one of them for now - a prototype - but of course - other gear is coming - for now - feel free to browse, and ask any questions - meanwhile - that kit with the chemical compounds - it has only the four doses - you are free to take it with you," he adds politely.

Sorassa, with a smile, respectfully declines the tea, having recently partaken in a coffee served by Mister Rowan.
She wanders around the room, taking in the various gadgets and prototypes and wondering what Hugh has in mind for her to use.
"Mister Hugh, do you have something for each of us in the division?" gesturing to the strapped bracelet on Euwag. She too is interested in hearing the answer to Jerall's question regarding the compound.
Euwag Bloorat
Euwag looks in amazement at the new "toy" that has been strapped to his wrist. His eyes, as large as they are, seem to widen even more with excitement. He reloads the spring mechanism and tucks the thing back under his sleeve. Then, jumping forward and doing a little somersault, he flicks his wrist again and activates the concealed device. AHA! Got yous! he proclaims loudly. He does this several more times, jumping up onto a table once, circling the human man another, rolling around the gnome yet another time, and each with the same excitement and "AHA" as he activates the device again and again.
Then, panting, he seems to compose himself a bit, at least as much as a young goblin can. He smiles at Hugh and looks a bit sad as he removes the device and gives it back to the bespectacled man.
Fun. he simply says.
Then, with another bright look on his eye, he fishes out a length of leather cord from his pocket. Taking his badge, he loops the cord around it, then hangs it about his neck. Looking rather impressed with himself he whispers in bloody disguises..., and tucks it into his shirt so that it doesn't show.
Then, clearing his throat;
O.K...wes goes. Rowan bossman halfling councilguy says we goes in carriage. You gives us stuffs mister Hugh and we gots to work and sneak and find out about bugs in brain. Tall Malikman, you takes tubes with finding stuff and we gets some shooty pointies and we goes in carriage and takes to bugs. We gots important job to do for council. "Something for each of you? Well - I presumed the compounds would work well for you, miss - as your... shall we say... talents? Are they not in the field of science? I presumed that would work best for you... The compound is best suited for assisting in many studies in Alchemy, Potions and other Healing skills..."
"Now - as for the others? For the lady Lorien - I should think that this would work well, yes?" he adds, lifting up a small glass vial and swishes it around.
"If you pour the contents of this liquid into a drink - the person who drinks it shall be compelled to tell the truth for the next question you ask - it's a bit unstable - so you only get one question..." he adds.
Turning to Mallik he nods sagely.
"And for you - I have prepared this!" he adds, taking out a small comb - handing it to him.
Mallik is free to examine the comb for a few moments - but, after his examination - Hugh will interrupt his efforts:
"Hmm? Oh - no, nothing to see there - it's actually just a comb. That untidy bird's nest on your head simply needs a good run-down with a serious comb. So - ahem - yes; that's all. Er - that is to say - it is a Comb of Brushing - um, plus two? Yes - indeed - that will do nicely," he adds to himself.
Turning - he sees Sorassa wandering around the room, picking something up to examine it.
"No - not that - for gods's sake - don't touch it!" he calls out running toward her in a mad dash...
Sorassa - what do you do? Wait - scratch that - I presume that you halt instantly your actions as he charges toward you... In which case, you see him bolt up to you, somewhat out of breath.
"Oh - my goodness - a narrow catastrophe adverted!" he says, plucking something from Sorassa's hands.
"Sorry - that's my lunch!" he adds with a deep sigh of relief.

I was in the middle of answering that but I see you preempted my response. ;)

Sorassa picks up the kit with the chemical compounds - 4 doses inside - and carefully places it inside her backpack.
"Thank you, Hugh", she says to the relieved elf now reunited with his lunch. Such fluster over food!

Diplomacy to recognize the attempt at showing etiquette 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Looking at Jerall, Euwag scratches his head for a moment, pondering the human male's actions, accidentally pushing off his hat. He chuckles to himself as he leans over to pick it up, and can be heard saying guess i'm sposta! as he affixes the headwear back to its proper place. Then blinking innocently at the gnome, he points his elbow at her awkwardly.
Time to do the knowing and finding bouts the head bugs, Sore-aaahs-uuuuh. We goes now, and me gives you elbow to hold in yous hand. We goes to carriage, but you goes firsts cuz horsies still makes me shakies. Okay? Okay!

The goblin was slightly exasperating but he did not seem bad nor malicious from recent observations. Just child-like and eager. She watched Jerall and Genevive and their show of polite etiquette and recognised that Euwag was trying to demonstrate much the same in his own interesting way. She delicately places her hand atop his proffered arm so not to offend any of the members and together with the goblin makes her way to the carriage.
"Forges warm, friend", she says to Hugh as she moves away from the elf.

Quite pleased at having a lovely lady on his arm, and been partially responsible the Gnome on the arm of a Goblin, Jerall walks on with a slight spring in his step, moving somewhat quickly, not so much as to force the shorter legged companions to run, but as time is of the essence, he certainly does not wish to dally needlessly, clearly excited to begin research on this strange creature that attacks the brain in mind more than body.

You walk down a hallway and you turn a corner into a large wide room. There are various carriages and coaches there – and there is a man tinkering with one of them. He is wearing dark blue trousers, a loose blousy shirt and a black leather vest. Pulling himself out from under the carriage – he looks over the two “couples” over traipsing about arm-in-arm.
”Are you serious?” he says, wiping the grime on his trousers – looking you over.
”Well – anyhow – you’re here to see the coach, eh?”
”Well – come on then – we got things to do, and you’re on some kind of time thing…”
He leads you over to a large carriage – black – with the emblem of a falcon on it – naturally; this symbol of a falcon is the crest of Master Rowan – there can be no other explanation for having a falcon on a fast moving vehicle – that much is clear.
He swaggers up to the door and flings it open.
”Well – you getting in or you four folks going sit around all night holding hands?”
”Hey –Julie – get your butt over here!” he calls out – then turns to you.
”Oh – yeah – that reminds me – my name is… Hanz. Anyhow – this my assistant – his name’s Jules – he helps with the motivators. Oh – that’s what we call the thing that gets this carriage in gear.”
You observe that “Julie” is not a standard human – instead – he looks like a massive creature, a hulking beast – much like a Werewolf – but you believe that his bloodline is more bear-like then wolf-like. Indeed – you suspect he’s a Were-bear.
Julie is not in his standard human form – but instead is expanded into his “Were-bear” transformation. You believe that this is for a reason – as he is struggling to carry a massive construct in his hands that looks like a metal horse.
He slams it down in front of the carriage – and the horse statue doesn’t seem to be even chipped. You observe that there are 3 more similar statues that he is hitching together in a sturdier looking version of a horse harness. Despite the easy familiarity that Hanz is showing you – it seems clear that “Julie” isn’t paying much attention to you all – being more focused on the constructs.
”You folks get to get in – we got a deadline, eh?” Hanz says, and you suddenly pile in and he slams the door shut behind you.
In moments – you hear the sound of a heavy door being opened – and movement about the carriage suggests that both Hanz and Julie have got on the coach above – and are encouraging it to a brisk ride forward.
At first – it seems like a rather mundane ride over the plains in a fine coach. But in moments, you look at the window – and observe that the speed of the coach is moving at to be much faster then you can possibly guess. It is, in fact – based on what you see – moving about roughly 40 miles an hour – perhaps more? You’re not sure – but you are clear of one thing – the roughly 40 miles or so to the capital should be easily reached in a little less then two hours. It’s a sure thing that you can get to the capital in time to begin your case – but will you get the case solved in less then 48 hours?
Only time will tell…
Now is a great time to start putting together the beginnings of a “case file” – so far – there is nothing new forthcoming from you via your plans. Well – now is the time for your plans. What exactly are you doing – what are your plans for this case? You have a creature that feeds on electrical impulses that binds itself to the brain – a creature that, once bound – causes the subject to lose its will and bind itself to the first person who commands it until it is removed – even so; how do you remove such a creature from the brain of a subject once it is bound? How can it be destroyed without killing the subject itself? What is the best way to do this – and how can it be done? Only time will tell – and there is less then 45 hours to go in this case… I am eager to hear some chatter between the new team on your plans. You have roughly 1 hour to reach the capital.

As they travel in the carriage, Sorassa sits with her hands folded neatly in her lap even though the bumps they traverse over almost knock her off the seat and onto the floor.
"I believe that we need to physically examine one or two of the hosts to determine the extent of the damage and will drain by these parasites. I wonder if these tiny creatures will leave permanent lesions on the brain even after removal? Mister Rowan briefly mentioned that there is a live specimen of the parasite so perhaps we should delegate the duties?"
"No one has mentioned how many folk have been affected by these parasites."
Knowledge, Nature (re tiny brain parasites/vermin): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Knowledge, Arcana (re magical means of removal - whether spell or potion/elixir): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
"Hmm. A Speak with Vermin spell may have been useful and I hear the Baroness is a druid. Perhaps we can call upon her aid to gain information directly from the surviving creature ... From the source, as they say."
Dain GM
RE - Knowledge: Nature - out of your realm of understanding - they are creatures from the southlands...
RE - Arcana: magic or "cutting" via healing would be most useful for this - but it would be very, very complicated to use cutting. Magic would clearly be better - but how could you kill the creature while it is INSIDE the brain? Hmmm...
RE - Spellcraft: there are various spells that could kill such a creature - but it is likely that if you used them - it would effect the person who has the creature inside of it!
RE -"Hmmm...: It seems Agent Longread may need a promotion - her ability to "detect" the Imperatix's Class and Abilities is very advanced... Even so - the logic can't be refuted. After all - Director Rowan (wait - Director? - oh yeah; that's absolutely correct - he made himself Director of the S.I.D.) did provide you with detailed files on the case - including the abilities of all the Council Members.
Does this information help - if so - what can be done next?
Anyone have any suggestions for on the road - or should I just fast-forward?

Sorassa would have heard of their illustrious leader and also her "bravery, skill etc" would have been talked about and spoken in tales among the people and lands. ;p Ariarh has a rep! ha!
That is why you call her a "Detective".... duh!
Meanwhile - it's only too bad that Sorassa can't just meet such an important councilwoman without a proper appointment as the Council Woman is - no doubt - very busy :)
Dain GM
Sorassa will find a way to make an appointment with the important councilwoman. Or she will go through Mister Rowan who has the appropriate connections to the Lady in question. ;)
Remember - Councilman Rowan is back in his barony - getting things ready - you've traveled to Saravale - meanwhile - it is equally possible that the Lady Ariarh may not be available for said interview - she could be in her own barony - or perhaps riding her horse, touring the countryside - for, perhaps - the next 40 hours or so... :) Then again...

"I wonder of there are any sorcerers in the area with the ability to use their compulsions on vermine... I certainly don't know of any, and don't assume any are going to be created out of the ether for our convenience, but all puzzles have a solution, and we can discern one if we just use the resources at our disposal. And I'm sure good old ingenuity will be better than some magical solution anyway." Jerall muses.
"Although these individuals that have survived seem to have no master to whom they are bound," Jerall notes as he looks over the report. "So we should try to give them orders both mundane and contrary to what their previous masters would have and see how they effect the victim."
Looking through the files of the others on the team, he asks, "Genevive, have you, perchance any compulsions or charms at your disposal beyond your natural ones? Charming you certainly are, and the victims may respond differently while being influenced by magic. Who knows, a powerful enough spell and the victim may bind itself to you!"
"There is a woman within the town, something in her file refers to a healers guild. We should consult with her regarding surgical means to remove the creatures. See what sort of "cutters" anesthetics and healing magics are at our disposal. If only this place had a decent library so we could research magical means to remove the creatures. I hear there is a wizard in the town that we could also consult, but who knows how helpful he'll actually be..."
Genevive Lorien
Genevive looks thoughtful for a moment before saying I do have some ability to magically charm them but I am not sure how much good it will do if they have suffered damage to their brain. It is unfortunate that there is not a leader left within the city that I am aware of other wise it would be easy to impersonate said leader and give them additional orders that could help with gathering information.

Note to all -
As you continue to bounce over the plains at a relatively high speed - you recall that a "dossier" of sorts was promised.
Glancing in coach - you see the very dossier laying there!
The Dossier - and notes regarding the case - are now on the "discussion thread" for this page. This thread is not meant for game questions or discussing the game - even the part pertaining to the S.I.D. - rather - it is meant for a short summary of details on specific cases so you don't have to constantly look for those details through lots of posts. Basically - you can post things on the Discussion Thread - if you feel it necessary - but try to keep them limited to notes and findings on the case itself - that way, anyone can go there and read the "notes on the case" - and there won't be hundreds of posts relating to details that have nothing to do with the case.
I hope this helps things out in terms of organization. Meanwhile - good luck!

Your healing check would remind you that many humans can get sick from deep cutting. That cutting into the skull can cause infections - "diseases" - if you can get to the creature, it could work - but you'd need to know where in the head it was before you stared cutting - or you'd need to be very good at that skill. Even so - once you completed the task - the cutting may leave diseases that could kill the individual.
Regarding Spellcraft
Magic Missal is a specific spell that - based on the descriptor could work - but you are not certain if it would - as you would need to expose the bug directly to your line of sight.
Further - even if you are able to free these men - your real difficulty is dealing with the people who may or may not have bug on the brain...
Unless you are prepared to do this procedure to everyone in the town - and the nation as a whole - how will you be able diagnosis and analyze people in general?
Quite a conundrum - and you ride has almost reached the capital!

The carriage swings into the capital of Praxis.
You hear the sounds of folk yelling and screaming to get out of the way - and realize that it is your coachman - eager to find a place to put his coach down.
You barely recall how you got over the river - you only know that you are here. But as for "here" - it is - in fact - right outside the barracks by the main village on the edge of the valley; and there is a gathering of troops ready to greet you - apparently the sign on the sign of the carriage marks your status.
Meanwhile - Hanz demands you get out - the things that motivate the carriage forward; the constructs - have been severely damaged. He needs time to work on them, and anyway - you're hear.
"Get the hell out of there - we're here!" he demands.
You hurry out of the carriage and hit the ground hard. You're here -
Now what?

Euwag looks to the others as he slides along the seat, pushes open the door to the carriage and jumps out. Taking a big breath, he speaks loudly;
We gots work to does team! We gots knowings and lookings at bodies and bugs and heads!
For a moment, he is distracted by the hustle and bustle of the town, but quickly regains himself, and clutches the amulet of Dez-nuh at his neck.

"Watch it boss - could be that goblin folk that goes with the lad they call "The Drake" - you know - Gragkh?" the other guard turns to you, looking toward your wrists.
"Say - show us your wrists," he adds, then turns to his officer "They say that The Drake found the goblin crucified by his own tribe - cut him down from the cross and let him loose - if this fellow got marks on his wrists - then chances are that it be The Drake's lad - and we should let him go."
"Hmmm... Interesting theory - and if he doesn't?"
"Well - chances are that he's a goblin - if he's got iron marks on his wrist he's likely busted out of shackles and needs to be strung up."
The corporals eyes shine brightly.
"Ah - good thinking! Right - well; you there - let's see your wrists!" he demands.

Sorassa lifts her SID badge up to the corporal and gives him a cordial smile. "If you could show us to Baroness Kane or one of the other councilman, please ..."
Diplomacy: 1d20+7
The corporal is clearly confused.
It seems he has strong disposition to help Agent Lorien - a feeling of distinct neutrality and a bit of suspicion of other men like Agent Malik who seem to be (apparently) too close to Agent Lorien, whether figuratively or Metaphorically - and a general distrust and loathing for goblin-kind, which puts Agent Bloorat at a big disadvantage.
Also - it is clear that - while your badges will be useful in time - it will at least take a little bit before the general public knows of this. Still - between you and Agent Lorien - he seems at least nice enough to offer some practical advice.
"Look - the council ain't seeing no one, ma'am. They've been riding all over gods's green creation searching for things to take care of - if they had to stop all of their affairs at each person's say-so... Hell - I could tell you stories of all distractions they've had..."
"Even so - my commander has given explicit instructions on what to do with folk involved in cases - and specifically any who need to meet with the Council. All of that is one and the same - they need to present paperwork on it."
He scratches his head, a bit confused.
"What I can't figure out is - if you were really sent here on a mission - why didn't you get a briefing that said something like: Arrive in town - meet with so-and-so - present "paperwork" on case - and they will take you directly where you need to go..."
He looks at you, looking at you badge - studying it, frowning. Clearly it looks official enough - but, well - he does have specific instructions from a very... shall we say... legalistic commander (of course - you knew that already - as you read it in the dossier that was presented on said "discussion thread" for this board) - and you know exactly who the commander is.
"I mean to say - none of you had any paperwork - nothing you were given - nothing on the coach perhaps that had all sorts of notes - and suggestions on who to talk to - and how to proceed?"
"I only ask - not to be a stickler - but to make sure we're all on the same page here - as it were. Does that make sense?" he adds, hoping that helps.
"Don't any of you have paperwork with contacts, evidence, history, details - and so on? If so - now would be the time to share it," he concludes hopefully.
It is exactly correct that you have these things - you do! They are all on the discussion thread - which you know about - and the instructions on who would be best to talk to. Please bounce to the discussion thread - read it quickly - and use that information for this case. Remember: the Council is very busy with "Important Work" - they can't be holding the hands of a bunch of "rookies" and walk them through each and every case. You guys have to do this work on your own - and hurry - the clocks ticking!

"Aye, Corporal, we indeed have paperwork given to us by Councilman Rowan. It is a dossier with information pertaining to our open cases. I am unaware of your clearance or how detailed your information is in this matter but we are to be shown to Sir Sylvath, Knight of the Clan Seti, Chief Warden of the Capital of Praxis, and he is to look over these papers." She shows the dossier, or enough of it so the Corporal can see Sir Sylvath's name as well as Brett Rowan's official seal. Sorassa understood classified information and did not deem it wise to show the information to any person who asked for it.
"Corporal, is this enough to grant us audience with Sir Sylvath?"
