Antal Swim 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Antal manages to make forward progress.
Big people are troublesome. Just realized you guys have been moving 1/4 speed, where it's only difficult terrain for you. So if Jametor wants to take a standard action or another move, go for it.
Fíriel and Randall are up.
Jametor Darksbane
Njord Bjornson
Climbing up onto the shore, Njord grunts in surprise at the sight of the rat person.
"What'r weres doin' here?"
Njord pulls a vial and smashes it against his forearm.
Shield.
DM Oladon
Randall Fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Randall begins vomiting all over the wreckage, but tries to move out of the swarm anyway.
Fíriel looks worriedly at Randall, then focuses back on the task at hand. Following the wererat, she tries to stab at it again. She misses.
Attack (fighting defensively): 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 6 - 4 = 9
A yell comes from the darkness in the north. "Are you alright?"
The wererat retaliates with a dagger-slice and a fierce snap from his slavering maw.
vs Fíriel: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
vs Fíriel: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
1d3 ⇒ 2
The flying cockroaches let Randall go and pursue the bigger meal that's just come into view.
Njord Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
And Fortitude.
Sorry guys... on my tablet, so can't move tokens on the map. Would someone please move Fíriel one square southwest, and Randall two squares west and one south? Thanks.
The party is up. Everyone can make Perception checks with your turn.
Njord Bjornson
Njord grunts in surprise as the roaches swarm over him, biting and clawing.
Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
After batting them aside, the big Ulfen lumbers forward into the flank with Firiel. With a great shout, he brings his sword to bear.
Hack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Edit:
Confirming: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Extra Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
DM Oladon
The wererat goes down with a gargling shout of surprise as his head rolls off into the swamp.
Everyone but Njord is up.
Randall Quickstep
We're safe and about two hours from home at a little diner with wifi - just could not push through last night; four extra hours of road time to make up for closed roads was too much to overcome. We'll be home before noon trying to get things together for a normal workweek.
Is Randall still nauseous?
Jametor Darksbane
I think I can do this
Jametor steps forward and flings out some colored sand and a command word into the swarm of cockroaches. Color Spray DC15 Fort Save
If I cannot, I'll stay where I am. I don't really have any AOE spells that will help, they fly, so Grease won't work.
DM Oladon
Randall's no longer nauseated, it was just the one round. Glad to hear you're safe; we're getting tons more rain today.
Jametor, swarms are immune to mind-effecting spells. Grease would coat them in grease.
Antal Hyrgan
Limited access today since im on the road. I would say a torch or fire would be great against a swarm! :)
Ol' Antal just keeps swimming in hopes of catching up to the rest.
Swim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Randall Quickstep
I don't believe the grease is flammable, if that's your thought. I think we will have targets for your spells soon, I would forgo casting anything this round and just try to evade the swarm for now. My two cp.
Randall, recovering from the dizziness caused by the insects, quickly searches what remains of the wererat, mostly for identification, but also for weapons and coins. While doing do, he tries to stay down from whoever was firing from the other direction.
Perception to search remains: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
I was not sure how close you were to the flooding, Oladon. Be safe.
DM Oladon
I rule grease as flammable.
Randall doesn't find any identification on the body.
Wererat Loot
Randall finds a potion of CLW, a masterwork shortbow (14 arrows), a masterwork dagger, a tanglefoot bag, a set of thieves' tools, and 20 gold.
Jametor is up.
Randall Quickstep
How do you rule with wrong-sized gear? I have seen some do the "Medium dagger = Small short sword" and I have seen that with a small penalty to hit and I have seen where there is just a penalty. Considering how many mid-sized things we are seeing, I thought it might be a question worth asking.
Randall gathers up the items, offering the bow and sword to the Ulfen and the elf first.
DM Oladon
I just go with the Weapons section of the CRB:
Inappropriately Sized Weapons: A creature can't make optimum use of a weapon that isn't properly sized for it. A cumulative –2 penalty applies on attack rolls for each size category of difference between the size of its intended wielder and the size of its actual wielder. If the creature isn't proficient with the weapon, a –4 nonproficiency penalty also applies.
The measure of how much effort it takes to use a weapon (whether the weapon is designated as a light, one-handed, or two-handed weapon for a particular wielder) is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder's size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed. For example, a Small creature would wield a Medium one-handed weapon as a two-handed weapon. If a weapon's designation would be changed to something other than light, one-handed, or two-handed by this alteration, the creature can't wield the weapon at all.
So yeah, Medium-person light weapon = Small-person one-handed, as you suggested.
Jametor Darksbane
Janetor pulls a scroll from his scroll case and begins reading the words, finally pointing to the swarm. Grease spell on the swarm.
DM Oladon
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Targets: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
The grease coats the ground, but somehow the swarm manages to dodge the worst of it. Flying up into the air almost as a single creature, the cockroaches engulf Swiftwing and begin consuming the bird in little bites.
Swiftwing Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
And Fortitude...
Suddenly there's a splashing, slurping sound from across the wreckage, where a huge creature has just emerged from the water. One long tentacle reaches out toward Njord hungrily, just tickling the Ulfen's chin.
vs Njord: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The party is up. The grease is still present, it's just on the ground and water instead of the swarm.
Njord Bjornson
Njord's eyes go wide in surprise as the tentacle monster springs up and swings a tentacle at him.
Hack!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
"Har! This place is full of surprises!"
Randall Quickstep
"Randall, are you alright?"
"As well as I can hope for at the moment."
I believe my turn was consumed with the search and seizure, right?
Jametor Darksbane
Swiftwing has 6 HP
Jametor feels the attack on Swiftwing through his empathic link. Even worse, there is nothing he can do. Jametor runs away from the swarm trying to get into a better position to attack the new threat. Double Move I think I figured this to be my max move

New round.
Jametor, Swiftwing needs a Fortitude save... 0hp is staggered, not unconscious yet.
DM Oladon
The ugly monster bites at Njord as the Ulfen approaches.
AoO vs Njord: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Antal, Fíriel and Randall are up.
DM Oladon
She can take a single move or standard action... a standard action will cause her to fall to -1 and begin bleeding out.
Fíriel Goldworthy
Fíriel does a cartwheel across the wreckage, landing next to the giant tentacle monster and trying to stab it.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Randall is up.
DM Oladon
The monster lunges forward and chomps at the halfling as she passes.
AoO vs Fíriel: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Fíriel Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Randall is up.
Jametor Darksbane
I didn't move Swiftwing wasn't sure if you were going to allow her to fly into the grease. If you did, wasn't sure if the swarm would follow, even. so I suppose we can take care of that next round.
DM Oladon
She can fly wherever she'd like. :) Did you want her to fly through the grease into the water? Or just down on top of the grease?
Jametor Darksbane
What I would like, is for her to fly into the grease and immerse at least some of the swarm in the grease, thereby allowing someone with a torch or some sort of fire, to be able to set them ablaze. I am just not sure how far you'll let me take the sacrificing my familiar for the good of the party play. I've even toyed with the idea of letting the swarm attack me, then casting shocking grasp, but wasn't sure if that would work. To be honest, I just don't have any tools to help fight the swarm, because I didn't take any AOE damage spells.
DM Oladon
Alright. Yeah, shocking grasp is a single-target spell, so no dice on that.
Randall holds his dagger up defensively and tumbles into position behind Njord. Full defense & a 25' move.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
A slimy tentacle slaps at him almost playfully as he approaches.
vs Randall: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Swiftwing takes a deep breath and plunges into the swamp, crowing insults at the cockroaches as she goes. Drawn by the smell of blood and the tasty fowl-flesh, the cockroach swarm descends to the surface of the water. An agitated rustle begins, quietly at first but swelling quickly to a loud rumble as the swarm is foiled in its attempt to get the bird. All its attempts result only in the swarm coating itself in grease. Swiftwing breath: 1/8 rounds.
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
The tentacle monster opens its toothy maw wide and wraps one meaty tentacle around Njord.
Grapple vs Njord: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The party is up. Njord can take an AoO.
Njord Bjornson
Seeing the tentacle creeping towards him, Njord takes another mighty swing.
”Har! None of that. Back you!”
AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
DM Oladon
The slavering maw opens more widely, the tongue sliding silkily over razor-sharp incisors. "Nooo..." it whispers. "Come to ussssss..."
Party's up.
Jametor Darksbane
Jametor yells, "Does someone have a torch or some alchemist's fire? Swiftwing has dipped them in grease, we just need something to light them on fire!"
Jametor pulls out a candle and a small sack and begins his summoning spell.
Njord Bjornson
Determined not to be out-wrestled by a slimy swamp monster, Njord tears free from the beast.
Grapple to break free: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
DM Oladon
Njord manages to break free. The tentacle that was wrapped around him withdraws slightly, waving gently in the darkness as it prepares to strike once again.
Jametor, that's two moves and a standard... which do you want to drop?
Antal, Fíriel and Randall are up.
Jametor Darksbane
Summoning spell is still just a full round? The candle and small sack are the components for summoning, did I confuse us? Would you rather I not mention the components?
Jametor Darksbane
Yeah, I am not sure why those are the spell components. I can understand some of them, but those are odd. I suppose I have to draw a summoning circle with my hands. I guess that's why it's full round cast instead of just a standard. So wishing I had gone evocation spec..
Randall Quickstep
What happened to my post from last night? Bah!
Randall shouts, "There's nothing here for us! We should retreat - it was a trap to draw us away from Saul!"
Not listening to his own advice, Randall tries to get among the figures of the 'meeting'.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 Not including terrain penalty
If his move works, here's the update: Map
DM Oladon
Aight. It's a double move to get there tumbling, but technically Randall goes before Njord... so the monster's still grappling Njord and Randall can get there with a single move and no tumbling, if he'd like.
"Trrrrrap..." replies the monster, swaying slightly as if deciding which delectable item to consume first. "Yessss..."
Fíriel Goldworthy
Fíriel stabs at the monster again, heedless of her wounds.
Attack (flank): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 = 25
Damage: 1d3 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) - 1 + (2) = 2
Antal is up.
Randall Quickstep
He tumbles, not realizing the creature's occupied.
"You must be disappointed. They told you that you would have a lot to eat, didn't they? They didn't tell you it would be such small bites as us. We can work together and get you better fare. What do you think?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
DM Oladon
"Ssssssmall bitessss, yessss... deliciousss..." it responds, still munching on a piece of Fíriel.
Antal is up.
