The Hound Of Kintargo
The Hound checks to make sure his pitol and gunpower is secure in their waterproofed containers and takes a dive from a rooftop and swims to the secret entrance and makes a note to get some magical waterproofed clothing soon.
Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Oh boy, I hope that's enough. Otherwise I'll take 10 which would make it 12.
Lirotha Karsani
Waving her hands in exasperation, Lirotha retorts!
"Book? What book? Scions of House Sarini...the Mausoleum? Are you talking about the book of 'planar' creatures we found? You have GOT to be kidding me 'unihorn-boy!' Go bugger a cow with that thing. I'm sure you've had plenty of practice!"
DM Elan Morin
|
"Planar... Don't play me for a fool or you'll regret it woman! I am talking about the ledger you just put away... the one detailing transactions of House Sarini that happened... some time ago. That book was stolen and needs to be returned to the Sarinis! One of you does that... the rest of you doesn't get turned into rat food... maybe!" shrieks the creature, stopping again its music and then hastily returning to it.
_Valrani
Valrani grins evilly as she rummages around for the book.
"You seem very keen on its return. Why would that be? What would happen to you if it....had an accident?"
She opens the book and tugs gently (not hard enough to rip it) at one page.
"Toss the pipes over here flying girl, and maybe we can talk. Our interests might yet be aligned. But mess with us and I can guarantee there is no way house Sarini will get this book back."
Lirotha Karsani
I'm lost. He's not talking about the 'secret page' we found is he? OK...what book is this? None of us were in the raid that earned the chest in the first place, right? We're all NEW-er characters in the game here...so is this a book they found before and just ignored for some reason?
DM Elan Morin
|
@ Lirotha: It's the ledger you just found, the one with a secret page inscribed inside it. The creature didn't mention the secret page but that doesn't mean it doesn't know about it, just that for whatever reason he didn't mention it. The party that started the game found the documents in a place called "Fair Fortune Livery" as part of a secret hideout of the original Silver Ravens. There's a lot of documents written in code and strange languages and Rexus is helping you decypher them but it's a long and low job.
As Valrani tugs at one of the ledger's pages the creature stares at her:"Do you even know what is that you are doing? that's not the right page!" it says before starting to play the pipes again, this time in a somewhat frantic melody!

The flaying creature suddenly disappears but the music keeps playing and the rats try to swarm you!
Swarm Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
These are 3 rat swarms but I'm counting them as being one single swarm with 9HD instead of 3 different ones with 3HD each. Damage from swarms is automatic, they swarm all of you and occupy the same swares as you do. Those who suffer damage also have to roll Fortitude DC12

All of you suffer 3 points of damage, please roll fortitude DC12. Also Oren can now take another perception check
Lirotha Karsani
"Rats!"
Stepping out of the rat swarm for a moment, Lirotha takes the chance to launch one of her newest spells! A cloud of golden particles fills the air in a 10 foot radius around the spot the creature was occupying a moment ago!
"Eat that!"
Glitterdust! He has a Will DC 15 to avoid being blinded!
Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Valrani rushes forward and tries to smash the imp out of the sky.

Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Thanks to Lirotha's spell the flying creature suddenly reappears. The sound of its pipes falters for a moment as it curses before raising up in the air...
Filth fever: Swarm—injury; save Fort DC 12; onset 1d3 days; frequency 1/day; effect 1d3 Dex damage and 1d3 Con damage; cure 2 consecutive saves. The save DC is Constitution-based.
In 1d3 days the disease starts taking effect... Morricone: 1d3 ⇒ 2 Lirotha: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Meanwhile Oren's sleep is disturbed by the commotion nearby and she groggily wakes up...
Rocco Hardweather
Fort vs distraction: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Rocco high-steps out of the pile of rats at his feet, drawing a flask from his belt as he does so. Once he's got a bit of distance from the rats that had initially dined on him, he lobs the flask into the back of the room, where he hopes it will burn many of the rats to cinders.
Move, throw an alchemist's fire between green and red swarms by the wall in order to avoid getting Morricone in the blast.
Alchemist fire: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Kurglunn the Runner
Fort vs distraction: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Kurglunn runs out of the swarm toward the once-again-visible creature, screaming his head off in terror at the bitey little vermin. He swipes down at the flying creature just to get back at him for bringing such scary rats down here.
Slam, charge, power attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The Hound Of Kintargo
Oops, didn't see that the map was up. Moving now.
The Hound swims a bit slower due to the drag of his clothing and eventually makes it to the surface of the hidden entrance. And climbs out of the water. Once out he wrings out the excess water from his cloak and fedora again reminding himself to get his costume enchanted.

Will Save against blinded: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Despite being blinded the creature flies away swiftly and avoids any retaliation from Valrani and Kurglunn. After that she tries to turn invisible again and then returns to her music...
At the same time the rats keep biting savagely at the herose' heels although a few of them
Swarm Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8
Another DC12 fort check please, those already infected don't need to take it

Oren rises upon hearing the action ivory and moves toward the common room to help out.

Valrani heads out the door, trying to follow the music as she does so.

Once clear of the rats, she pauses to heal herself.

Lirotha Karsani
"Ewwww!!!"
Stepping out again Lirotha gestures grandly and let's loose with her signature spell! Attempting to hit as many of the rats as she can without hitting her teammates, she frowns and spits as she finishes her spell!
"Burn you verminous beasts!"
Burning Hands AOE(Fire Damage) Reflex DC 14: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 2, 1) = 5
Awww NUTS! That could have been SO much better! Do swarms get reflex saves?
DM Elan Morin
|
Apparently yes they do... I'm not sure it applied against Rocco's previous attack but it does against Lirotha's. There's also good news though: you all get 2 AoOs because whenever the swarms move you get to attack them. That said remember slashing and piercing weapons only causes them half damage Also in order to cast you need to pass a DC20 concentration check but they don't get AoOs against you (ever)
Lirotha Karsani
I thought if I take a 5 foot step out of the swarm I don't have to make a concentration check? Yes...the rules state: "Spellcasting or concentrating on spells within the area of a swarm requires a caster level check (DC 20 + spell level)." So if I stepped out of the swarm then I should not need to make the check, like I did last round with the Glitterdust spell.

Kurglunn the Runner
Kurglunn smashes down at the rats as they swarm about his feet once again.
Slam AoO, power attack vs green: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 Bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
He is too distracted to do much else, however, and remains standing in the swarm, swatting helplessly at the rats.
Rocco Hardweather
Rocco didn't have his kukri drawn, unfortunately, so no AoO for him.
Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Rocco backs out of the swarm once again, drawing his final flask of the alchemist's fire he had picked up weeks ago to fight against the tooth fairies. Stepping all the way into the back of the room, he chucks the flask in once again and hopes that its enough to kill off most of the rats before they kill him!
Alchemist fire: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 Fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
The Hound Of Kintargo
"Hey, anybody here?"
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 To see if the Hound hears the commotion going on.
Hearing some shouting in the distance. The Hound draws his pistol and moves sneakily through the hallways of the basement towards the sound.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
And becomes one with the shadows.
DM Elan Morin
|
@Valrani: As Lirotha Pointed out as long as you are out of the swarm's furry embrace you don't need to check for distraction so no check for you.
@Rocco: Alchemist fire deals 1d6 fire damage plus 1 to everyone in a 4 ft radius (so in my book swarms get hit twice). The subsequent round the fire continues to burn unless the target manages a DC15 reflex check. In this case the swarm suffers 1d6+1 dmg from your first throw, then 1d6 damage because it doesn't spend a whole round to estinguish the flames, then 1d6+1 damage from your second throw and if it gets to round 3 it will suffer another 1d6 damage...
Rocco's extra damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Rocco's alchemist fire burns down several rats causing others to run around the room like a sort of boiling sea made of filthy black fur, literally on fire.
Reflex Save to avoid damage from Lirotha's spell: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 -> Damage is 3
Lirotha's magic manages to set a few more rodents on fire but most skitter around yet, a malevolent intelligence hiding behind their blood red eyes. Her starknife cuts down several of them though...
... and Valrani and Morricone finish off the creatures with savage and brutal efficency, leaving the few survivors to run for their lives, their sense of survival overcoming the pack mentality animating them until a few moments before.
That's a total of 54 damage if my math is not mistaken. Impressive I'd say.
Far from being discouraged the flying creature stops playing her music and instead starts chanting in an archane language...
Meanwhile Oren and Talon converge on the scene where the action is taking place.

He's been glitterdusted...no chance to miss until the end of the spell duration on my next action in Round 4. "All within the area are covered by the dust, which cannot be removed and continues to sparkle until it fades." Too bad my spell only has a three round duration! So hit him now!
_Valrani
Awesome. so if no distraction, then Valrani can at least finish closing on him.
@GM, summon monster is normally a full round action, so unless he has quickened it, we should be able to get up to him and get in an attack before he finishes the summons. The basic action is the same whether or not the summons goes off, but if she can, she'll stand where the blue one is and target the pipes-imp
Valrani charges across the room toward the glittering antagonist.
"Leave us alone you horrible creature."
attack, charge: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 15
damage(magic,blunt): 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 + 1 = 14
Rocco Hardweather
With the way clear of rats, Rocco hustles out of the room to chase after the flying foe. Kurglunn does the same, perhaps propelled by a sense of vengeance toward the creature that sicked all those scary rats on him and Rocco. Kurglunn, with his considerably longer stride, makes it much further than his halfling friend.
Double move for Rocco and Kurglunn
The Hound Of Kintargo
The Hound see's everyone rush past and while in the shadows still moves down the side, back against the wall to the other stairs. He peeks around takes aim at the glittering creature.
From the corner of my square I can see the imp, so I assume I can take a shot, and it's within 20ft so it's a touch attack, and hopefully the creature doesn't beat my previous Stealth check so I can catch him flat footed as well. GM just adjust if any of this is incorrect.
A loud crack rends the air.

@ Valrani:Yes, the spiders shouldn't be there yet, the imp moved and then started to read its scroll, it will be completed by the end of its next turn. The creature flies so it would put itself out of reach of melee weapons if it can but let's just say the ceiling is too low for that
Perception check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
The imp notices the Hound just a split second before the famed vigilante opens fire on it and puts itself out of the bullet's trajectory. Diabolically nimble it also easily avoids Valrani's lunge.
Meanwhile Lirotha heals herself and the rest of the Ravens closes in on the fight.

Oren Mitabu
DM, which map are we using for this encounter? I can't seem to find it. Oren will move to engage the imp, and since I'm coming from elsewhere, I assume it'll take me at least a double move to get there.

Oren and Morricone close in on the flying creature, which uses its time to step away from its assailants and finishes summoning two big spiders!

Fortunately Valrani is able to anticipate the move and try to disrupt the casting with an attack of her own...
Valrani gets an AoO against the imp, we'll see if it hits and how much damage it causes, if not stopped the Imp summons 2 giant spiders near Valrani immediately attacking the druid
