A Pathfinder Society Quest designed for level 5 characters.
Long ago, the daemonic harbinger Anogetz nearly conquered Southern Fangwood with an army of mad beasts, but a miracle from the hunter god Erastil staved off disaster. Thieves made off with the holy relic keeping the daemoic energies sealed, and now it's up to the PCs to return the relic before the evil force awakens and marches once more.

As Rivani calls on the powers of his people, invoking an ancient strength o cloak himself in their lore, one of the rams charges at Merisiel, for whatever reason the elf having irked it, but just before it is able to smash it's demonic horns into her, it stumbles, smacking the stone floor hard and expending all of it's momentum.

As Adowyn calls on aid, Amiri, throwing caution to the wind moves through the party and around the devil goat before bringing her massive sword down hard, but it seems the fall from ealier was enough to knock some luck into the fiend, as the ram, in a surprise thrash smacks into Amari. She takes it, following through with her own blow that severs the Ram in two.

Rivani, clearing his mind for a moment, focuses his will into a weapon, and smashes it into the Daemon's relentlessly, leaving the creature stunned for a moment, wondering how such weak mortal could manage to harm it.

Amari, her anger seething, almost palpable grabs her axe in a deft motion, and hurls it at the flying daemon, landing hard and drawing blood, but not nearly as much as it should. She then takes a step forward, drawing her sword in anticipation of when she can feed it.

The Daemon, not amused, flies down a bit to unleash his full fury on Amari, ripping into the young woman savagely, and without mercy. Assuming the Daemon takes damage, it cannot make attacks of opportunity for one round (slow reactions). Additionally, it is bewildered, and takes a -2 penalty to AC, with an additional -2 versus Merisiel's attacks for the next round. Any form of healing removes the bewilderment, but not the slow reactions.

"front of the statue, a large deominc ape-like creature flies some 10 feet up. It has a crown of corrupted ram-like horns swirling around it's head, allowing easy access to it's fanged mouth, and as you enter, it turns to glare at you, pointing a clawed hand at you as if giving some sort of command." There is also a larger picture on the map, and the Bestiary says "This brown, shaggy-furred beast stands on slate grey hooves. Its head resembles that of a maniacal horned ape." :P

I forgot to add in some damage on the crit. Adowyn has the "Killer" trait that adds 3 points damage to any critical hit with her bow.


Amiri screams as the creature rips her apart. Her innate rage comes bellowing out.

Still, like an animal that realizes it has attacked something much more ferocious than anticipated, she backs up, looking for a fresh start.

Oloch moves up to get ready while Merisiel charges in, waiting for a brief moment to apply her blade. Rivani tries once more to insert his will, causing as much damage and chaos in the creature's mind as he can, but again meats significant resistance.

Amiri attempts to withdraw, but stumbles as she does, and the Daemon shots it's fanged mouth down to bite deep into her once more, leaving her just barely clinging to consciousness.

Adowyn sends her pet up as she herself unloads as many shots as she can, and their stings bite deeply. This time it looks like they dealt the full damage they should, and it leaves the daemon looking a bit concerned. Her pet wolf also takes a small chunk out of the Daemon's tail, but it doesn't seem to be too effective.

Also, because the creature is flying, it can not be tripped, nor can it really be flanked from the ground. Merisiel, did you want to do something else instead?

Merisiel delivers a staggering slash as well, and it seems to fully affect the Daemon, but it's not enough to send it back to whatever hell realm it came from. The Daemon retaliates, unleashing most of it's fury on the elf, but manages to swipe at the wolf as well, and it's talons and teeth come away from it with new blood to boost it's morale.

Oloch slams the spear into the statue just as the combined offenses of Merisiel, Rivani, & Adowyn slay the Daemon. It's once physical form begins to almost melt away as it lands hard on the stone floor, fading from existence on the material plane and retuning to it's native plane.

As the spear lands perfectly into it's prior hole, sealing it and cutting off the strange black mist, there is a ripple of power sent through the room in a shockwave.

There is calm for a few moments, as t darkness and corruption has been cut off from it's source, it begins to slowly fade away and die. But not completely. Not yet at least.

Can take a few rounds to heal if needed.

Suddenly you see a pair of priests at the door. They survey the scene quickly, but their eyes widen when they see the relic returned to it's home. But not in the alter as it should be, but rather the foul statue idol it had become. "Quickly. Take it out! You don't know the proper ritual and if the relic's miracle sets, it will be ruined forever!"

The woman next to him, adds "Give it to us and protect us from any devils that might try to prevent the true ritual."

Their story might be a lot more believable if the two didn't look EXACTLY like to the two bodies you found murdered in the room not far from here. They are good actors, master liars, but the evidence is against them.

Rivani:
If you still have your Detect Thoughts up, which you should at 1 Min/Level, you sense very strange surface thoughts from both of them. They seem almost naturally shielded somehow, but it's not complete. You sense that both are NOT humanoid, as in at all. You get sensations of murder, almost as if they hungered for it like you would food and drink, a physical need. It's very chaotic, almost fluid, like to their minds nothing is associated with any sort of image. (Mostly just flavor. I'm falling back to my Ravenloft with what happens when you make mental contact with some inhuman things.)

I didn't roll init because I wanted to give everyone a chance to act/talk first.

Looking the new arrivals over, Adowyn could swear that she just fished these two out of the holy water. Thinking hard, she casts detect magic, trying to see if this is an illusion or a construct or some other foul magic.

"You two seem awfully healthy for having just been fished out of the holy water. What are you?"

Adowyn will not "overtly" threaten them just yet, and whistles for Leryn to be ready for more action. While waiting for a response, she leans over to Amiri and begins tapping her with a wand.

"Whoever you are...you're not the priests here. You'll be as dead as they are soon!" she yells and rushes them.

Cure serious wounds: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (2, 7, 8) + 3 = 20 I'm not sure how many of the heals from Adowyn (thanks!) take before they come in...but I was also planning to quaff a potion this turn anyway. I'll drink this, and if I am not healed all the way up before they come in, I also had a potion of cure moderate wounds I could drink (thanks, pregen inventory!). Regardless, I should be able to get to full before they enter.
