No worries. Look, since you're from Daggerford you should check in with the townmaster, Dauravyn Redbeard. He's also the innkeeper. Just head on over." he nods towards the fortified structure in the center of town.

At the inn, you are welcomed by a stout, middle-aged man with a full beard, now mostly gray but with some of the namesake red color still showing. He seats your party at a large table in his common room and puts a huge meal before you while also attending to the other customers.

"Ulf has lived here all his life, but history is not my strong suit." he muses, stroking his beard.

He goes with the others to the inn and, when the feast is set before them, his eyes go wide, his stomach erupting in a loud growl as soon as the table is prepared. "This is quite the feast, Master Redbeard!"

"Indeed, I was never much of a student," Kyras agrees jovially. "I was far more interested in practical studies."

He licks his lips at the sight of the overloaded table. "You are quite the cook. You have our thanks. Ah, we haven't introduced ourselves, have we? We're the men and women down from Daggerford. A pleasure to meet you."

Amelleanne eats modestly and quietly, she's used to having something after the main meal - and being on hand to help with serving.

"Yes, welcome to The Way Inn! A runner from the guard let me know the Daggerford militia had arrived - your meal is provided by arrangement with our councils for visiting militias, so enjoy! If you'll excuse me, I have to attend to several other customers, but I will return in a spell..." Duaravyn says pleasantly after dropping off your food.

Dauravyn has much to do, but he joins your table again briefly as your meal is finishing up. He says there have been no threats on the village lately and hopes they’'ve had their share of trouble for a while. Before leaving, Dauravyn says there is someone who wishes to meet them.

Tyler:
You overhear a group of young guardsmen at another table swapping stories, and one in particular catches your attention. Kelson Darktreader, Duke Pryden's Master of the Hunt, is the son of a human woman and an elf - Filvendor. Filvendor apparently is a magician/ fighter/thief who disappeared into the east some 20 years ago.

Weary of her surroundings, Brynderie takes a seat at the table where she can keep an eye on the entire dining hall.

But the young scribe is soon overtaken with hunger to notice anything other than the delicious food.

Just read back to last Friday's posts. Missed this knowledge check earlier.

Enjoying the meal with the others, she begins to get chatty, "I'm surprised none of you have heard of Dragonspear!

Know(Local): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

It was originally the home of Daeros Dragonspear, a famous adventurer. Dragonspear Castle fell on hard times after his death about 60 years ago. Recently, outbreaks of creatures leaving Dragonspear precipitated a war between the evil forces and the trading cities, led by Waterdeep. The creatures were beaten back to the castle, but the siege of the castle itself lasted two years and took the lives of many brave men, including Pryden, the former duke of Daggerford. The war did not reach Daggerford, but the region is still plagued by evil creatures. I understand that most parties traveling south from The Way Inn do so in large, well-armed caravans."

Dauravyn stands and says, "Before I take my leave, there are some folk who have asked to meet with you. If you are willing, I'll introduce you to them." He stands next to the table, expectantly awaiting your reply...

Dauravyn takes you to a smaller table in the back of the inn. At the table are three young men, an older man, and a beautiful young woman. "“This is Meldar Far-wander,"” says Dauravyn, introducing the older man. "“Maybe you can help him out."” Dauravyn then steps away to go back to his work.

Meldar seems happy to see you, a smile of obvious relief brightening his tanned face. "Ah, adventurers, welcome! As Duaravyn said, my name is Meldar Far-wander. This is my daughter, Delora Sharpeye, and my animal handlers Ian, Finn, and Dooley." Everyone shakes hands with the group, and then Meldar invites you to sit down.

"I am in a desperate situation. I'm a caravan trader on my way from Aquia Harbour to Daggerford. Yesterday, my caravan was attacked by bandits and my guards were killed. I could sure use your help getting the caravan to Daggerford. Redbeard there has been hospitable enough, but since we're outsiders, I don't want to impose on his hospitality much longer. Would you be willing to escort us back to your city and protect us from whatever bandits or vile creatures may lay between here and there?"

Delora joins in and also pleads for your help. "It is vital that we leave soon if we want to get to Daggerford before the last Thousandhead's Trading Coster caravan of the season gets ahead of us. Look, we can offer you 40 gp each if you accompany us and ensure our safety."

"I see no harm in it." Amelleanne says, more to her fellow militia than to Meldar.

"Excellent! Well then, we will see you first thing in the morning and be off. If you will excuse us, we have preparations to make!" Meldar and the others rise and head out of the Way Inn, leaving you to spend the evening and night as you desire.

(Anything else you want to do before leaving The Way Inn? Feel free to play it out! Also, please provide your riding order with the caravan included.)

Sure enough, the caravan is ready to leave at first light the next morning. While Meldar and his daughter have light horses, the animal handlers walk and lead the oxen pulling the carts. At the rate the pack train can travel, it will take you every bit of daylight to retrace your journey and make it to Daggerford in 3 days. Meldar is all for this plan, as he is uncomfortable outside of city walls...

Tyler will arrange for a hot bath while in the inn, cleaning up and retiring early as riding is still causing him some pain. :)

He will ride on one of the caravans flanks as guard.

I suggest we have those with the best Perception as the lead and covering the rear.

"Wonderful," Kyrus says, offering a hand to the caravaneer to shake. "Then we'll see you bright and early." Once they've settled dinner, Kyrus spends a while in the tap room, chatting with the townsfolk and getting the local gossip. You never know when a farmer or hunter might have heard something juicy. It's a bit late when he heads off to bed, but he's still up nice and early in the morning.

"I'll ride point," he suggests as they head out to meet the caravan. "I'm used to keeping an eye on the trail ahead of me. And I'll stay in earshot in case something goes wrong."

Male Human (Ulfen) Fighter 3 | AC 18 T 12 FF 16 | HP 33/33 | F +5 R +3 W +1 | Init +4 | Perc +1

These questions are intended for the night before.

Displaying a broad grin all the while, Úlf firmly clasps the wrist of each man in the caravan in way of greeting, expecting the same gesture in kind from them. For Delora, however, he adopts a different tactic, giving her a light handshake instead, his pale skin flushing slightly. "Is good plan! Very nice to meet you all. I am Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson, but most are content with calling me Úlf! I am Daggerford constable. I am also wondering about this attack. I have not heard of Aquia Harbor and would like to know more about where you have come from. Was anything taken from caravan? What goods are you still carrying? What tactics did bandits use? How many were there? What weapons did they have?" the large warrior asks in a rapid-fire series of questions, after which he seems to check himself, his grin fading slightly as he rubs the back of his neck with his hand.

"Aaah...Úlf is sorry if he asks too many questions! As constable it has become my habit to ask many questions like this. Any details you can give about caravan and attackers will make it easier for us to spot something strange and help us all get back to Daggerford in one piece."

Is Leon taking rear guard, I believe his Perception is second best?

Amelleanne will head to bed early and rise early.

Brynderie smiles at Meldar , "We'll see you in the morn'in." She spends a little more time eating dinner with the others before heading off to bed. Early the next morning, she arises refreshed and energetic. this extra cash will come in handy... maybe militia duty isn't so bad after all.. After packing her things back up, she studies her spellbook in the privacy of her room, preparing for the day.

Leon will continue as before, off to the side of the group but near the center of the line so he can see clearly in front and behind everyone

Meldar has a softer grip, as Ulf might expect from a merchant, but his animal handlers have the calloused and strong hands of those who work hard. Meldar answers your questions as best he can, basically saying he was able to escape the bandits with his carts and animals, but the guards he had paid a heavy toll to protect him. It all happened so quickly, he isn't sure how many bandits there were, but he says there were 20, at least...

He also is not a tactician - that's why he hires guards and he believes as militia you will do a better job protecting him than his last batch of guards!

DC15 Sense Motive:
Meldar is most likely exaggerating a bit to make it seem more dangerous and thus making I'm look more brave. You could probably cut his estimate in half...

Order as I can tell from your posts and my best guesses:
Kyrus
Portia(?)
Brynderie(?)
Tyler . caravan . Leon
Amelleane(?)
Ulf(?)
Changes?

The day passes quietly, the road traffic growing lighter as you go. Meldar chooses to continue on the road rather than stop at Bowshot for a meal. As you ride, he and his daughter are eager for conversation, happy to talk the miles away.

"So tell me a little something about yourself," the merchant asks each of you. "What do you do day to day? How do you like living in Daggerford? Are interested in getting out and being more adventurous, or are you content in your profession? Are there any items or goods you might need that I could provide, or find in my travels for you? I'm always looking for new customers, you know!"

Delora spends more time talking with the other girls in the group, asking about their lives and how they manage as women in the city. She is especially interested in Amelleanne's stories of the keep and the court.

"Úlf is constable at Daggerford. Is sort of like detective. Is not quite like chief of police forces or anything, but is at higher level than normal keeper of peace."

"Úlf is not from here, though; I came here from far north, the Land of the Linnorm Kings, from city called Jol. When Úlf was but a cub, he was not growing as fast as other boys. My mor...that is, mother...she always said I was like trollhassel plant. What is Common word...witch-something. Witch hazel, yes! She said Úlf is like witch hazel that blooms late in winter...that he would one day grow big and strong like other boys, it will just take him longer."

"Well, Úlf decided to leave home when he was fifteen and joined with caravan passing through. It was only way for me to get out into the world, to prove my worth as one of the Úlfen. I stay with them for many years, and eventually found out mor was right, that I was just what is in Common tongue called 'late bloomer'. Even so, I had no reason to leave and was happy traveling with caravan. Tall, strong Úlfen with large axe is good deterrent apparently, ha! Eventually, they came to Daggerford and something struck chord with me here. So I stayed and joined local militia on more-than-rotating basis. This was three winters ago."

"Last year, Úlf helped break big case in Daggerford and they decide to give me more official position and duties in town, so they name me constable. Úlf has been constable since then. Úlf still loves living in Daggerford! It has become much my home. It would be nice one day to truly settle here, to have wife and cubs of own. Do not mistake Úlf, though! Travel is still in my blood and I do still like keeping up with other people in nearby area. Sometimes Úlf does think it would be nice to go back to Jol one day...to show family that I am now true Úlfen warrior."

Daggerford is pleasant enough i suppose, though i'm not terribly attached to it comes with the territory of growing up in the wilds i suppose. Moving from place to place, going where the food goes. i guess you can call me a Hunter, Lorelei and i we fend for ourselves, sell fresh meat to butchers nothing too out of the ordinary...We mostly just try to survive. Leon answers keeping it short as usual the subject seeming a little bit of a sore one. Speaking once again in short barks and yip's Leon turns back to continue walking as if nothings odd.

"Of course I do overhear things, but if I gave away all my masters and mistress' secrets, what sort of servant would I be?"

He does keep his eye on the surrounding area rather than looking at Meldar when they are talking.

"Well," Kyrus begins after a few moments of thoughts. "I've lived there all my life. It's nice enough, though it can be sort of dull sometimes. I have a tendency to spend more time out in the woods nearby than in town. So if you have any interesting gear for travel or survival, I might be interested. Or arrows. Trick or magic arrows are always fun."

The caravan reaches the campsite in the late afternoon, a solid day's ride behind you. Spirits are high after the lively conversations throughout the day, and everyone pitches in to settle the animals and make camp. Before the sky is dark you have a warm stew cooking over a nice fire. After dinner Ian and Finn, two of the animal handlers, break out a tin whistle and a traveling lute and entertain the group with several popular tavern and road songs.

Soon enough it is time to turn in and catch some sleep. Assuming you keep the same watch rotation tonight?
