Just got home from a very long stint at work and I am barely ale to think at the moment, I am about to go to sleep so I can go back in tomorrow. This is just a post to let you know that I will most likely be unable to post for the next 24-36 hours or so. If I need to be NPC'd, no problem.
Okay, thanks for mentioning it, Longreach. Sleep well.

Seebo & Davkul:
At one point, the maid who discovered the body and disorder is summoned, for questioning, with the reluctant agreement of Mrs. Prestwick.
At length the investigation appears to be winding down, and Orcbane addresses the pair of you.
"Looks like you were right about the water-jug.", he says. "The only thing which we know to be missing, in terms of papers and possessions, is the guest's journal, which the fireplace would seem to account for. But if he wrote anything late last night, which either of you have pocketed," he seems to favour Seebo with a suspicious glance here, rather more han Davkul, "you would be wise to produce it now. Or if you have anything which you can tell me which you may know or suspect about the circumstances of his death or the hours immediately before it, it would demonstrate your willingness to be helpful to the authorities in this town."
Davkul:

Bronx:
If you want to say anything to Nim, (who still can't see) before the end of the round, the gnome/mushroom thing is still prone, with (effectively) two five foot squares between it and Nim, half left (due south) of the direction which Nim is currently facing (southwest). It is immediately southeast of you.

"The only suspicion I have that you have not touched on is that the man was most likely hiding from somebody. The clearest evidence of this is that he was using an assumed name. Pophilov is not a name, but the Undercommon word for 'nobody'. As a matter of fact, that is one of the major factors that piqued our interest."
Davkul stops for a second and starts to rub his chin in thought."Come to think of it, it could be that that attack on the inn last night was nothing more than a distraction so that somebody could come in here to poison his water. We ourselves are proof that his room is not difficult to find and get into."
Seebo Murnig
GM Charles and Davkul
Seebo stands quietly to one side and lets Davkul have his say.
Thinking about what Davkul has said about last nights attack, and possibly even the gnome that disappeared into the plant. A distraction seems likely, another thought is whether or not, Fenwick, is the dead halfling from outside town.
More questions than answers.
DM Charles Evans
Seebo & Davkul:
Then he snaps out of it.
"Likely he was wanting not to be recognised by anyone he knew from the Sword Coast, in these parts, or mentioned by mutual acquaintances who might be travelling in these parts and glance randomly at a guest register." Orcbane seems less bothered by the false name than by the idea of an attack being orchestrated last night as a diversion to allow the poisoning of the water jug. "I don't hold by any gnome gods, priest, but I expect his employers- and relations- will be pleased to hear you did something. Take this with thanks." He extracts three gold coins from a pouch at his belt, and passes them to Seebo. "And if you have any further interesting ideas in the next couple of days, Davkul Gladdenstone, about this or any other matters, mention my name to any of the company, and hopefully you'll be taken seriously. I'll see that word is passed around to that effect as quickly as possible. Now if you'll excuse me, but pressing matters require my attention elsewhere in this gods forsaken town. Why everything has to get crazy all at once, I don't know."
He and his men turn to leave the room, leaving the two of you behind with Mrs. Prestwick.

With a bow from the neck towards Orcbane and his troop, Davkul gives his thanks before bouncing out of his chair.
"I beleive we will find that we do not have much time now before we must meet with that merchant. Shall we get moving as quickly as we can? I certainly want to make a good imprssion on a possible employer."

Bronx:
Bronx has his scythe drawn, and is not blinded. He is standing with his back to the rock of the west side of the snow-covered shelf. The gnome/mushroom thing is immediately south east of Bronx.
Approximately seven and a half feet south of the gnome/mushroom thing is Bronx's discarded shortbow.
Approximately ten feet south of the gnome/mushroom thing is Bronx's increasingly nervous pony.
Approximately ten feet lie in between the gnome/mushroom thing, and Nim, to Bronx's east northeast.
Further north are the dead bear and Nim's discarded glaive.
The eastern edge of the shelf with its downward snow-covered slope runs approximately two and a half to three feet east of Nim and the gnome/mushroom thing.

Taking the gold coins and giving a half bow, Seebo thanks Orcbane and watches as he and his troop leave the room. Turning to Mrs Preswick, seebo offers 1gp "please take this and see that the maid has the rest of the day off and rests well."
Turning to face Davkul with one eyebrow raised , Seebo gives him a quizzical look, "Prosective employer? I thought we were going to check this merchant out, to see what he was up to."

"He was advertising for caravan guards was he not? One moment and we can look at the notice..."
Heading to the message board where the notice was spotted, Davkul points it out..
Merchant wishing to travel to Citadel Adbar seeks companions of the road:
Juzilan Greyfrost, Merchant of the Amber Traders League of the city of Sundabar, is looking for reliable travelling companions to escort him to Citadel Adbar in time for the Midwinter Fair of 1384 DR. Given the recent reports that goblins driven by desperate hunger may be preying upon travellers upon the Adbar Run, the aforementioned Juzilan is seeking companions who will NOT BE AFRAID of a little peril, and who will be used to rough camping conditions given the limited number of settlements to be found between The Fork and Citadel Adbar.
Travel expenses of such companions will be met, and a modest donation to represent his thanks, upon safe arrival at the gates of Citadel Adbar, will be made.
Candidates for the trip are to meet in the former offices of the Redstar Mining Company, for a discussion at about noon, on the 30th day of the month of Nightal.
THOSE OF NO MORAL STANDING WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

Seebo & Davkul:
Breakfast is long over by now, by the way, and the tables have all been cleared. Occasional rattles and clatters (and the sounds of staff talking can be heard emerging from the kitchens.
DM Charles Evans
Nim & Bronx:
The gnome/mushroom thing glances around, at Nim and Bronx, relentlessly pursuing it, then with a wild shriek of 'Time to go!' vibrating from the purple mushrooms sprouting from the body, it takes a step or two eastwards, then goes tumbling and screeching uncontrollably head over heels down the slope to the east, bouncing off trees and rolling as it goes. (Effectively an unusual method of making a withdrawal.)
Please make a DC 8 Will save on behalf of your pony, Bronx, to avoid it being spooked by the noise and bolting. Treat it as a regular pony with a Will save of +0. After that, I will summarise the conditions for the end of this combat round.
Nim:
DM Charles Evans
Nim & Bronx:
Reassured apparently by the proximity of its master's presence, Bronx's pony does not flee in terror at the sudden loud noise from the gnome/mushroom thing.
Reflex save to avoid high speed collision with a tree and going splat (1d20+2=21)
The gnome/mushroom thing fleeing down the slope somehow manages to miraculously steer around several trees as it slides, avoiding an abrupt and descent-halting collision with any of them.
Bronx notices Nim blinking and squinting, as if Nim's sight is starting to come back.
End of round summary:
Nim has his (cold iron) longsword drawn, and currently has blurred vision. He is raging. He is just northeast of Bronx.
Bronx has his scythe drawn. He is standing with his back to the rock of the west side of the snow-covered shelf.
Approximately twelve and a half feet south of Nim is Bronx's discarded shortbow.
Approximately fifteen feet south of Nim is Bronx's nervous pony.
Further north are the dead bear and Nim's discarded glaive.
The eastern edge of the shelf with its downward snow-covered slope lies approximately two and a half feet east of Nim.
Somewhere some 50ft or so to the east, shrieking as it swooshes through the snow between the trees, is the gnome/mushroom thing.
Nim does not have a straight line (owing to trees in the way) between himself and the gnome/mushroom thing for a charge.
Nim & Bronx:

"Calm down Nim. The creature jumped off the edge. I don't think we want to follow it down there. We better stay here, pick up our gear, and see if we can do anything about your eyes. We don't want you accidently falling yourself."
Bronx will put his scythe away and pick up his bow.
DM Charles Evans
Nim & Bronx:
In the meantime, from down the slope, a sudden high pitched shriek rises, then a distant rustle, followed shortly by a brief plume of smoke rising into the air from somewhere down there.
Nim's rage has ended and I take it that you will retrieve your various discarded/dropped pieces of gear before doing whatever it is that you want to do next. (No longer on initiative or combat rounds.)

"It'll take us away from here and any of the current goings on. The other 2 may want to join us, at least I'm pretty sure I can talk Nim into coming. Speaking of the other 2, I wonder how they're getting on."
"I'd like to know if the dead halfling was your associate Fenwick too. If it is Fenwick, who did you meet with last night?"
Seebo Murnig
GM Charles and Davkul
" I think we should go and check out the dead halfling. I'm also wondering if we should tell Orcbane, about the goings on with the strange birds."
"Maybe even about the humans that supposedly helped Fenwick."
"Then go to see this merchant, maybe the other two will be back with more information"
"I think we should leave a message for Bronx and Nim to meet us at the Merchants"

Current Time: Approx. 10:12, 30th Nightal, 1383 DR
Are you both taking your ponies with you when you leave the boarding house or planning to come back for them later?
Seebo: If you could please include in your next post (for me to pass on later, if/when Nim returns) the message you are leaving for Nim?

Nim & Bronx:
You resume a careful and thorough search of the snow around the dead bear, Nim poking and prodding with his glaive, and Bronx ready with his shortbow in case trouble turns up....
