Ursus the Breaker

"I can wildshape into an animal with scent and do it myself!"
"Well I suppose that works too", the big Ulfen says with a bit of surprise.
Ursus holds the earring out so that the tiny-man-turned-lizard can get a good whiff and hopefully lead the party to the ear it was once attached to.

It's going to take two pretty high Survival checks to get this done. The first to pick up the scent trail, and the other to follow it.
With guidance and Deadeye's lore:
Survival1d20 + 26 ⇒ (17) + 26 = 43
Survival1d20 + 26 ⇒ (8) + 26 = 34
Ursus the Breaker

Well as we saw a moment ago Aquila's survival check taking 10 is 36 with a Guidance and that Lore spell. Farouq and Ursus can both auto-aid (assuming we can do so without having Scent as well) getting him up to 40. Is that enough?
Although lacking the keen senses of a beast Ursus does what he can to help the lizard-beast to follow the trail.
Edit:
Oops. Too late.

Aquila, I can't find this spell or ability.
It's in Faiths of Purity
It's not on your character sheet's spell list. I'll give you this one as a freebie, but you need to keep a current list of memorized spells, either in your character profile or sent to me via email. Otherwise I will hold you to the memorized spells on the character sheet you sent me.

Yeah, those Survival checks definitely were high enough, although only those with the scent special ability are able to assist (i.e. none of you, since the lion can't assist). Luckily Aquila's rolls were high enough to follow a scent trail over two days old, and in this case it's been less than 24 hours. With the dinosaur leading the way, your group makes its way through the twisting streets of Niswan. You thought that people got out of your way quickly when they saw the lion, but Aquila's new form almost induces panic. They've never seen a creature such as this, and after a few minutes you think you all now know the Vudrani word for "dragon".
After about a half-hour of tracking (Aquila, please deduct this from your daily total) you come to what seems to be the end of the trail. It's an abandoned cesspit under a derelict warehouse in the Surakport district of town. Even though the smells here are overpowering to those of you without keen smell, the transformed Aquila finds the severed head of a middle-aged Vudrani woman under a wooden plank among heaps of other offal and garbage. Judging from the fact that the head is still wearing the matching earring you found in the shop, you're guessing that this must be Vitusa. Turning over your grizzly find, you see that her soft tissue has been burned out by acid, the signature trademark of the cult of Dhalavei.

"Blood and ashes!", the Ulfen curses at the gruesome discovery. "We are on the right track".
"You did well Aquila", he commends the dinosaur, not entirely sure if the beast can fully understand his words. "Now we need to find whoever dropped that here", he says indicating the severed head.
"This area of town isn't heavily traveled. Maybe we can find some usable tracks nearby".

Luckily the ground of this abandoned cesspit is soft and muddy from recent rains. Ursus quickly finds unusual tracks, which seem to be the only ones around. They are definitely not human in origin, as the bare feet which made them are too long and end in claws. Crouching down to get a better look at these unusual prints, Ursus surmises that the creature who made them was either walking backwards, or had backward-facing feet.
Knowledge rolls anyone? I won't tell you which ones are required, as that might give the creature away.
| GM BrOp - PFS |

Just an FYI, a Diplomacy (gather information) check takes 1d4 hours to complete. Do you still want to do it?
Daxter racks his brain as to what kind of creature might leave such a track, but doesn't reach any definite conclusions.
Also, just a reminder that none of you have actually searched the area yet. The head was found thanks to Aquila's groundbreaking Survival check.

Montesquieu can't make heads of tails of these tracks either. They don't resemble anything he's ever seen, although the creature is definitely roughly humanoid in shape and size and walks on two legs.

The tracks leading to and from the Vudrani woman's head are obviously fresh. There are other, similar tracks in the area, though, that are at least a couple of days old. They seem to have been left by the same creature that brought the incense merchant's head here. The older tracks are almost completely obliterated by recent rains, and become unreadable within 50 yards of the cesspit.
Looking around among the filth and the garbage, Ursus discovers the decaying remains of human limbs and bodies. They look to be anywhere from several days to several weeks old, and look like they have been heavily gnawed upon. The teeth marks on them are probably not those of any local scavenger found in the city, being to large and serrated.
Just when he thinks he's had about enough of this carnage, the Ulfen finds a damaged falchion among the debris. Looking at it carefully, he can tell that the blade broke in half, probably when it hit something hard.

Daxter's knowledge of weapons from this part of Golarion is not the best, but it looks to him that this weapon was made either here in Jalmeray or possibly in Vudra. He points to a mark under the handle of the hilt made by the forger. None of you have seen this particular mark before.
Ursus the Breaker
|
Ursus listens to the wizard's theories on the weapon's origins with a blank stare.
"Aquila, can you pick up the scent of whatever backward-footed devil left those tracks and chewed on those bones?"
Ursus the Breaker
|
Fair enough. I was wondering how far you'd let us get with the whole scent trick.
"Damn, it looks like we are not going to be able to track this thing straight to the cult", Ursus growls looking around again.
"We have a few leads at least. We could see if any of the locals saw who, or what, has been coming by here and dropping off these remains. We can try to learn more about whatever this thing is", he continues indicating the strange footprints and gnawed human bones. "Or we could see if someone knows more about where that blade came from - maybe Agni would know", the warrior explains.

"I think maybe this blade may hold more information than we can gleam right now. Maybe we should see serah Agni."
You actually don't know where Agni and the rest of the Pandisar family live, although such a prominent noble family should be easy-enough to track down.
I'm guessing from your previous posts that you changed your mind about asking the people who live near the cesspit about any strange comings and going?

At the time it seemed like we were hot on the tracks of our quarry and spending hours looking for even more leads would be a waste of time, but since that trail went cold, talking to the locals now would be a good idea.

"Nope, haven't found anything yet. It might be a good idea to follow our solid leads first and chase wild geese later. I guess the chance people or birds would have seen anything and want to talk to us about it is very small. Let's not give the cult any more time to do their evil and try not to waste precious time."
"Let's go to Lord Mahindra. Rumormongers always seem to be a solid lead. Costly, but solid..."

Daxter asks the poorest of the poor which make up this part of Niswan about goings on at the abandoned cesspit. He senses that they are afraid of it and avoid it if at all possible, but can't get any clear indication as to what scares them. The only thing he hears is that "angry spirits haunt this place". Note that this takes 2 hours to complete, so there is time for other people to do stuff.

"A little bird told me that a creature has been stalking about the smelly house lately. It saw him more than once and it's not a human. It seems to appear in two different shapes, one human and one ... not human"
"It was a longshot, but I guess it payed off! Now we know it's some kind of shapeshifter, anything ring a bell?"
Does this additional bit of info make it possible for Daxter or Montesquieu to reroll their knowledge checks?

Birds don't really have a good idea how to tell male and female humans apart, so "him" may have been an unintentional translation.
Also, as I mentioned above, the tracks become horribly muddled as soon as they leave the relatively untouched area around the cesspit house. There are just too many people traveling through these streets every day.
