Jorland The Shuhite |
I nod to Ameiko and put my hand reassuringly on her shoulder. "Doncha worry Amy. I got his back we'll all mop da floor wit em greenskins." With that I turn to the group. "Aright! Let's start wit dat mister Proudstump fella. Com'on team! We gots us some greenskins ta stomp!" Assuming everyone is ready, I lead the way following the trail the Sheriff told us to take.
Alright we are off. This is going at a good pace. Last time I was in this it took us weeks out of game to leave sandpoint.
Lina |
Feeling a bit nervous and more than a little insecure, Lina tags along with the bunch of much larger and intimidating looking warriors. She tries to stay close to Liu Na, and several times reaches down to touch her starknife reassuringly.
Kalistrine |
Kalistrine wolfs down her food and follows Jorland, some remnants of her breakfast still present on her face and the front of her armor. There's even a bit of egg yolk in her hair.
The woman immediately presses to the front of the group, trying to take the lead, but satisfied with walking alongside Jorland if he knows the way. She carries her shield on one arm, but leaves the other hand free for the time being. Glancing back at the others from time to time, she grins at Lina. "Off on your first adventure? Keep an eye out for trouble at all times. You never know when you're going to face danger. It's rough country out here." she says.
Lina |
Lina flushes a deep crimson. "I uh...yes, I mean I've never done anything like this before. And...well...I don't see so well anymore. I mean, I can tell where you are well enough, but I'm afraid I won't be shouting any warnings." She does her best to give a reassuring smile, "But don't worry, I'll keep out of everyone's way." Her heart sinks deep in her chest. Oh, what am I doing? They're all gonna hate me...
GMEDWIN |
I hope everyone is ready to board the Goblin whacking express :) if not just continue with the RP
As you all have put together your equipment and have eaten your breakfasts, you march out of Sandpoint at a grassy knoll on the outskirts of town you see Sandru's Caravan parked in a semi-circle, with one of the wagons tipped over and men and women doing some woodwork. Around the wagons are pitched tents and cookfires have been set, the smoke mixing with the smells of salt pork and kasha.
A young boy about the age of ten says, "Heyyyyyy-yyyyooooo its Kali! Omar, Kali's back!!!"
A forty something man wearing colorful Katepeshi style clothing steps out of the tent with a smouldering branch trying to light his ornate pipe. After three tries he gets it going, then walks over to Kali. "Well, Well, Well, Looks like you've recruited some interesting members for our caravan, HAHAHAHA!!! How did your meeting with the sheriff go and by the by where is Sandru?"
GMEDWIN |
After Kali and anyone who wants to talk to Omar and the caravan people are finished, you set out to the bridge across to the Lost Coast Road. The journey south is quite easy. The way the crow flies, it is just over two miles; however, the road goes in anything but a straight line, so you actually end up travelling closer to three miles before you can see the twisted Brinestump Marsh ahead of you. The road turns to the east to go around the swamp, but a smaller trail continues straight ahead and into the swamp.
Can I have a marching order and your actions as go into the swamp,(for example, weapons drawn)
If you want you can do a Knowledge Geography or Local check, to show how much you know about Brinestump.
Jorland The Shuhite |
To Omar I call out. "Good day to ye fella. We headin out ta do some greenskin huntin. We gonna gettim buggers who be causin ya all dis trouble just ye watch." If no one else has anything to add, I lead the group on.
----At the marsh-----
I try to stay in front of the group. Though I know little of Brinestump.
"Sheriff mentioned a fishing trail leading ta Proudstumps place. I'm Guessin this smaller trail is what he wer talking about. Lets take it. I have da highest defensive capabilities and can hold against anyting we encounter. So I be leading. If anyone has any input on directions or sightins, speak up. If not, lets keep movin." Again, if no one has anything to add, I lead on into the swamp.
Takeshi Kaijitsu |
- Male human (Tien) Magus (Kensai) 4
Takeshi frowns at the mention of Sandru but remains silent. At least he's not here.
---Marsh---
Query: Do we need to be single file on this trail? I'm assuming so, but just wanted clarification.
"It's fine with me. Keep an eye open for trouble," Takeshi says as he moves to a place around the middle of the group, although, if necessary, will go to the back to make sure Lina does not end up there. She looks a bit nervous, best to keep her within the group.
Kalistrine |
"Sandru's back in town getting supplies. Meeting was fine. But now we got a bounty on those greenskin bastards. I'm taking these out on a Goblin hunt. Wish me luck." Kalistrine says, then with some vehemence, "And don't call me Kali."
She continues past the caravan, taking a position at the front of the group next to Jorland. She keeps her shield slung on her right arm and her left is free to grab whatever weapon she needs if danger presents itself.
Jorland The Shuhite |
Interesting. Kalistrine and Jorland are designed similar, or rather, have a similar fighting style. If I had more money, I would have bought more weapons also but I am down to 2 gold. When we get back from this trip, I am going to buy the weapons I couldn't afford hehe. He's going to be a literal mobile armory.
Liu Na |
Knowledge (local) check regarding Brinestump Marsh: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 - geez, Liu Na doesn't know squat!
Liu Na silently follows along with the group into the Brinestump Marsh, taking up a position behind Takeshi and Lina. The half-elf ninja constantly scans the surroundings for danger, shortbow in-hand with an arrow nocked to the string. Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
GMEDWIN |
So I got Jorland upfront with Kalistrine next to him followed by Lina, Liu and Takeshi, is that right?
Up ahead, the marsh is a tangle of nettles, reeds, and other swamp plants, with larger trees periodically sticking up out of the mess. The New Fish Trail is very muddy. You can hear the chirping of frogs, the buzzing of insects, the calls of birds and other animals even from here. There's a sense that going just a little ways down the trail will take you into an entirely new world, so different is the landscape to that which you're about to leave.
Kalistrine |
As the group enters the marsh, Kalistrine grows quiet. She moves more slowly and carefully as though afraid of attracting attention to herself. The drone of the insects, the smell of the damp vegetation and the squelching of the mud takes her deeper into herself.
Feels familiar. Fells like... Home... Kalistrine shudders.
Jorland The Shuhite |
I march onward through the marsh full of zest and excitement. It is clear that I have more on my mind than my surroundings. I push on down the trail towards Proudstumps place. Really nothing more to it.
GMEDWIN |
Movement through the marsh is very slow going, the sounds, the underbrush and the heat give off a sense of foreboding. The smells make some feel squeamish and you start to get the sneaking feeling that the further you go in, you are not the hunter but the prey.
For Liu and Kalistrine
Kalistrine |
Kalistrine grabs a Chakram off her belt and readies to throw, staring into the brush, but after a moment, nothing happens, so she lowers the weapon. She does not put it back, however, and seems a little jumpier.
GMEDWIN |
After three hours of trudging through the marsh you come to a rickety old bridge that crosses a tributary of the Soggy River heading in a southerly direction.
Jorland and Kalistrine cross the bridge and are on the other side while the rest are on the bridge still. Its rickety making odd noises as you cross.
GM Rolls

Goblin 3 Stealth 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 + 2 = 13
Goblin 4 Stealth 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 = 16
Goblin 5 Stealth 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
Jorland Perception 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 - 1 = 15(for not paying attention)
Kalistrine Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Lina Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Liu Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Takeshi Perception 1d20 ⇒ 18
GMEDWIN |
I posted the surprise round and then got a ring at the doorbell...
Surprise Round
Order:
1 Goblin 1
2 Liu
3 Goblin 5
4 Takeshi
5 Goblin 4
6 Jorland
7 Goblin 2
8 Goblin 3
Goblin 1 attacks Jorland with Shortbow 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 The arrow comes in right at him but barely misses him by a hair.
Liu:
Jorland The Shuhite |
When my turn comes, I will pull a Javelin Free action and huck it at a goblin not engaged in close combat.
Attack:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 For:1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
"Haha! We have some action at last! Take that you filthy Swamp rats!"
Liu Na |
Surprise Round:
"J! There's three in front of you!" Liu Na shouts as she whirls around to fire an arrow at the goblin attempting to sneak up behind her.
Standard action to fire arrow at the dagger-wielding goblin sneaking up from behind. I believe the goblin is flat-footed since Liu Na acts before it does in the surprise round, so sneak attack should be possible.
Shortbow Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 vs. flat-footed goblin
Damage: 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + (3) = 7 (includes sneak attack damage)
Liu Na's AC: 16
Liu Na's HP: 10/10
Takeshi Kaijitsu |
- Male human (Tien) Magus (Kensai) 4
Takeshi draws his katana, looking around at the goblins that had appeared in an ambush.
How wide and long is the bridge we are on? Is it considered normal or difficult terrain? Is Takeshi right behind Jorland and Kalistrine (and so about 25 ft away from the goblins) or further back? Are the goblins together (apart from the one behind us), or spread out? Where did goblin 1 attack from if it's not near 4, 2 & 3?
Sorry, I guess a better question would be: Is there a map?
GMEDWIN |
@Takeshi, I am not an artist. so i didn't draw one,but the three goblins you see are between 23 and 25 feet away. You are still on the bridge but closer to the end and Liu would be closer to the back. Lina between you.
Liu fires an arrow that hits the Goblin square in the armpit but she is still coming.
Goblin 5 attacks Liu with a dogslicer 1d20 ⇒ 15
GMEDWIN |
I'll let the flatfooted attack work but sneak attack damage won't work because she can see you.
The wound from the arrow throws off her attack just a hair and slides off Liu as if her clothing were coated in oil.
You cannot see where Goblin 1 attacked from other than a general direction which in front of you, however you can see three other goblins; one to the left of the bridge and two to the right. It was an ambush, they're goblins not Airborne Rangers :)
Liu Na |
Sneak attack applies whenever your target is denied their Dex bonus to AC, including when they are flat-footed (i.e, when you act before your target's turn in the initiative order at the start of a battle). It's not dependant on whether they can see you or not, only on whether you get to go before they do.
Takeshi Kaijitsu |
- Male human (Tien) Magus (Kensai) 4
I thought about it (a charge I mean) but my AC is low enough, I don't need to make it worse, lol. Drawing a weapon (move action) is my action since we only get a standard or move action in the surprise round.
GMEDWIN |
Cool, Ill get us out of this round into the regular combat.
Goblin 4 attacks Kalistrine with a short bow 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 The arrow strikes her thigh.
Jorland with perfect form and a hop and skip and toss with his javelin impales the goblin perfectly in the heart bringing him down, dead.
Goblin 2 also takes aim with his short bow at Jorland 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
But misses horribly.
GMEDWIN |
Combat Round 1
Initiative rolls:
Jorland 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Kalistrine 1d20 ⇒ 6
Takeshi 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Lina 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Liu 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Goblin 1 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Goblin 2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Goblin 4 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Goblin 5 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
GMEDWIN |
Order
1.) Goblin 4
2.) Goblin 1
3.) Lina and Liu go at the same time
5.) Takeshi
6.) Jorland
7.) Goblins 5 and 2
9.) Kalistrine
Goblin 4, seeing his best buddy get killed by Jorland charges at full speed towards him 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 1 + 2 = 14 with his dogslicer. His overhand slash whiffed with a loud swoosh sound.
Goblin 1 sees his colleague running into the fray but still decides to loose his short bow towards Jorland 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 1 - 4 = 4 The arrow ends up lodged into the railing of the bridge making a loud thudding noise.
Jorland The Shuhite |
Okay as soon as it is my turn I grin at the runt in front of me. I pull my Battleaxe Free action and Attack Standard action
Attack:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 For:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
If all goblins in front of me are dead by the time it is my turn, I draw another Javelin and shoot it at a gobby still at a distance. Whichever is standing.
Attack:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 For:1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Lina |
Correct, dex only gives a bonus to ranged attack rolls, not damage. Also, I should go before Liu - ties for initiative go to higher dex.
As chaos erupts around her, Lina puts a hand on Liu Na - initially for reassurance, then she whispers "Steady your aim."
casts Guidance - Liu gets +1 (single use) on an attack, saving throw, or skill check in the next minute.
Takeshi Kaijitsu |
- Male human (Tien) Magus (Kensai) 4
Putting up Takeshi's turn now as I'll probably be offline until tomorrow. Also, where is Goblin 1?
Takeshi moves to the end of the bridge and slides around Kalistrine, avoiding the goblin engaged with Jorland and heading out to the nearest goblin armed with a bow. Once there he shifts into a defensive pose, allows his magic to flow into his katana and slices it at the goblin. Unfortunately, the blade only connects with the air.
Move action to get to goblin 2, preferably from the side to make it easier for someone else to flank.
Swift action to use Arcane pool for +1 enhancement bonus for 1 minute.
Standard action to fight defensively (so AC goes to 16)
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Meh, I'll assume that's a miss.
