Shadowdancer revisited

Homebrew and House Rules

Is there any room in the class for SA? The flavor of the prc begs for it, the (arguably) best two base classes (paladin and ranger) that can become shadowdancers could benefit greatly from it, and it just makes sense.

The class as written . I was thinking of scrapping some of the defensive features for a bit more offense. Like maybe imp evasion, defensive roll, and slippery mind for a full SA progression.

So am I taking that as a no?

I think the defensive features are one of the attractions of the class. They're flavorful and neat. I wouldn't want to lose them as a shadowdancer. I think I'd rather see a feat (or chain of feats) that granted a sneak attack progression at whatever rate, than see the shadowdancer lose her signature abilities.

I would think the shadow dancer prestige class would be better represented as a rogue archetype.

I agree, I adapted bits of it for my rogue styles but left it to where it would compliment instead of replace the PrC.

I was just hoping to add a little punch to it and progress a SA progression if at all possible.

um someone already made a shadow dancer archetype, though for the bard

god, that must be the 100th time I linked that thread.

Shadowdancer with sneak attack would be fine, it' quite weak beyond a dip right now.

I would suggest having the SD's level stack with rogue or other classes with talents for determining effective rogue level and when you can access advanced talents (level 10+). Not sure why SD doesn't do that now. Having Evasion stack into Improved Evasion if the person already has Evasion would be nice; as would some sort of alternative for (Improved) Evasion and (Improved) Uncanny Dodge if the character already has IE and IUD. At the very least, free bonus feat. It's really annoying that currently the classes that it's geared towards often get worthless overlapping class features.

Finally, buffing the shadow jumping and spell-likes would be nice. Explicitly allow Shadow Jump to work with the Dimensional Agility feat chain (since it doesn't currently, iirc) and give it a big boost to distance per day so the feat's actually useful with it. A character w/ a 3 level dip in Horizon Walker can Dim. Dervish flash step full attack 3 + wis mod times per day for a distance of 400 ft + 40 ft / level PER USE currently. Just for some perspective on how bad shadow jump is. Even if you have to limit its per day uses... it needs a big distance boost badly.

Thanks for the link. While I like several of the other archetypes, particularly arcane archer, I don't much care for his version of the shadow dancer.

Re: StreamoftheSky - Agreed. SD is mediocre by comparison.

So for starters, I'm gonna add 1d6 SA @ lvl 1,4,7, and 10. Shadow step will get some love as Stream suggested as well.
