Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

The Inner Sea World Guide mentions this nation in the southern portion of Garund, and describes it as being inhabited by beautiful people who transform into horrid arachnid forms at night.

Could this be a nation of Aranea? Is there any more information as yet about this realm?

Dark Archive

It might also be Jorogumo spider-shifter-folk, from the Dragon Empires, although I'm more partial to Aranea, myself.

It is indeed an aranea nation. No more about it than what's in the Inner Sea World Guide has ever been written.

Awesome. Count me as one who wants to know more. About southern Garund in general. And let's throw in Casmaron, while we're at it. :)

Have you guys given any thoughts as to where in Garund Nurvatchta is located? Southern peninsular area? Central? Just out of curiosity, and because this concept of an aranea nation appeals to me.

(Of course, I'm a Mystara fan, so that shouldn't come as a surprise, I guess.)

Seconding that 'awesome.' I love Aranea.

I'm in! Coincidentally, I've been thinking about intelligent, evil spiders a lot lately.

Since it's probably a while until we see any Garund gazetteer/Jungle Empires sort of treatment, I wonder what the chances are that we might get an adventure that takes place in/around Nurvatchta at least? some kind of Pathfinder expedition to the southern continent.

"Dr. Livingstone, I presume? Wait... what are you... you're not Dr. Liv... AAAAAHHH!" :)

I have. At this point, I suspect I'm the only one who's done a significant amount of thinking about southern Garund (Erik did some back in Pathfinder #1... but I'm not sure he's done much more thinking about it since then), but those thoughts are nowhere near enough to commit to in writing yet.

Chances of that are very very very small.

Because if we DID do an adventure set in Southern Garund, I would push as hard as possible for it to involve the nation of Holomog or the nation of Droon.

So you're saying... there's a chance!! :)

Seriously, though, I appreciate your answers. I've just been giving the Inner Sea World Guide a serious read for the first time and am only just discovering some of these tantalizing tidbits that just make me hunger for more on these areas that are outside the Inner Sea region themselves.

Between Vanara/ Charuka and also Jorogumo/ Aranaea, I find the 'double' implementations of basic forms/types (monkey people, spider people) kind of interesting/mysterious/recursive...

I would ask one question about South Garund more broadly: it's supposedly the 'high gonzo' fantasy zone of Golarion, so presumably there's plenty of stuff that would interest high level movers and shakers elsewhere in Golarion. Specifically I think of Nex, which is rather near-by, but obviously thereis also the Vudrani and Kelesh cultural 'outpost' countries located in South Garund itself. Is it merely a matter of needing to wait until South Garund is more developed, before we can know of the connections that other areas have developed with it (e.g. Nex, Kelesh, Vudra, etc)?

I'm kind of hoping the Kelesh and Vudrani outposts are more along the lines of Kaladay in Casmaron, i.e. slinter sects or remnants of other empires, and not just generic 'trade colonies'. Though whatever is done will probably be awesome :-)

Southern Garund isn't supposed to be high level as much as it is high-magic and very non-humanocentric and non-traditional.

The fact that there are nations of dinosaur-riding amazons, lizard folk empires, nations of spider folk and stranger things all sound like they fit that to me, though.

I want to go to there.

Sorry I wasn't clear James, by 'it's supposedly the 'high gonzo' fantasy zone of Golarion, so presumably [of] interest [to] high level movers and shakers elsewhere in Golarion' I didn't mean to imply that Southern Garund was disproportionately full of high level NPCs and monsters....

Rather, by 'high gonzo' I just meant that I thought it likely that all the (not necessarily high level) exotic stuff that you mention (dinos, amazons, wierd races including celestials) would draw broader interest from the world simply because of it's exoticness - I don't see any reason to believe Southern Garund is either higher OR lower in 'level' than the rest of the world, but it seems prone to be full of cool new toys/spells/materials/species. Nex being 'right next door' to Southern Garund, and thus likely as aware of developments in Southern Garund as Inner Sea developments, is why I supposed the influence/interplay would be especially strong there.

In any case, based on every scrap of info we hear about Southern Garund, I'll be thrilled when it's more detailed!
(could you say if Paizo's planning on further detailing Casmaron first - which I'm also curious about - or Southern Garund?)
