Can a synthesist wear manufactured armor if he puts it on after merging with his eidolon?
( presuming a humanioid eidolon base shape . or barding for a quadruped, and paying the normal cost for unusually shaped armor / barding ).
the FAQ clarifies what happens to armor that he's wearing when the synthesist merges. similar to polymorph the armor/shield bonuses don't apply while he's in synthesist form.
but can he then don armor after he's in synthesist form ?
similar to a druid turning into a dog and then putting on leather barding

No, as wearing armor severs an eidolon's link to the summoner. Just snag a wand of mage armor and call it a day.

Now does it? A synthesist can wear armor while fusing with the eidolon, and it doesn't sever the link. Furthermore, the armor would have no effect gamewise (as Seraphim mentioned), so allowing him to don a armor on and off would have no real meaning. It would come to use if the eidolon would vanish or die, leaving the synthesist without his/her "external self".

The synthesis still follows all the eidolon rules, unless there is a specific clause stating otherwise.. So yeah...if an eidolon can not wear armor and looses connection if it does, so would a synthesis. If you want to look like you are wearing armor just imagine it as so, otherwise there is no way to gain benefits from armor while fused. Period.

From the Ultimate Magic FAQ:
"Summoner: Does a synthesist (page 80) keep any armor bonuses or other benefits from his armor when he is fused with his eidolon?
No. The eidolon is, in effect, the synthesist's armor, and any armor the synthesist wears does not function while the eidolon is present. Fortunately, this doesn't mean the synthesist has to remove his armor when wearing the eidolon, and when the eidolon is banished/dismissed/killed, the summoner's worn armor immediately begins functioning again."
So you can have armor on, it just doesn't do anything. In fact, you should be wearing armor in case something happens to get rid of your eidolon.

The FAQ doesn't answer my question. there's a difference between "does a synthesist keep armor bonuses when he is fused with his eidolon" and, "can a synthesist that is fused with his eidolon don armor".
Armor Bonus: The number noted here is the eidolon's base total armor bonus. This bonus may be split between an armor bonus and a natural armor bonus, as decided by the summoner. This number is modified by the eidolon's base form and some options available through its evolution pool. An eidolon cannot wear armor of any kind, as the armor interferes with the summoner's connection to the eidolon.
But if the summoner is already fused with the eidolon, does the armor still interfere with the connection?

How do you put armor on the summoner when he's wrapped inside an eidolon? No you can't do this, stop trying to be a twink.
i'm sorry?
my eidolon is a guyver type japanese monster. its humanoid. it can wear armor. my question is whether i can put on armor over its monstrous humanoid shape. don't call me a twink when oni, gnolls, and monstrous humanoids can wear armor. any type of creature can wear armor.i can just use a scroll or wand of mage armor and get a +4 bonus. I just prefer to think of my eidolon as the creature i'm shapechanged into. and if i can, i'd prefer to wear armor in his form. since the armor my character otherwise wears has been FAQed to be inactive when fused.
thanks Herald, appreciate your help seeking an answer.

The answer was given by someone else above but disregarded. The important bits are:
Peruse the synthesist's Fused Eidolon ability for exceptions to the eidolon in reference to wearing armor. Finding nothing, you'll come to:
Fused Eidolon:...In all other cases, this ability functions as the summoner’s normal eidolon ability.
Therefore, since no exceptions to armor being worn are made under this heading, we go back to the normal eidolon abilities and find:
Armor Bonus: ...An eidolon cannot wear armor of any kind, as the armor interferes with the summoner's connection to the eidolon.
Now, keep in mind that this does not preclude any desired aspects of your eidolon's appearance. If you want it to appear as an armored creature, you can make it appear as armored...it is just part of its natural form, and not actually worn armor.

The synthesist and eidolon cannot take separate actions. While fused with his eidolon, the synthesist can use all of his own abilities and gear.
but the FAQ overruled the synthesist using his own armor.
Since so much of the synthesist has been FAQed, i think its good to bring this up and actually ask the devs.

No, not even this.
If your Eidolon goes away, you'll still have the benefit of your mage armor spell. Don't bother with armor.
Last I checked, robes were not listed as armor, and thus remain effective. Find yourself a useful robe and either use a wand of mage armor or a rod with the extend meta-magic feat.

I think the RAI with giving the Eidelon a Armor bonus and Natural Armor bonus, was so that you can not further stack on enhancing gear. With the bonuses they already get, further addition would greatly imbalance the eidelon against the parties fighters. Their evolutions already provide the equivalent protection that a tank could expect at a given level, then if you start piling on the magical gear it becomes ridiculous.
I'm currently in a game with a synthesist and after I remade his character (it was horribly, horribly built), I ran into this question, so thank you for posting it. The rules say I can decide which type of armor bonus to give it (Armor or Natural Armor), so why wouldn't I just call it all Natural Armor and then have the eidilon put on a suit of full plate when it gets here, or cast Mage Armor, or Bracers of Armor? So the armor intefers with the connection is the RAW written answer, evn though it makes little sense. Personally I'd say a better fix is to make the eidilon split between Armor and Natural Armor, and since few if any items stack on top of those, that would solve it, but whatever.
