Simple Templates - can they be used more than once?

For example, could I apply the advanced template twice to get a critter with a +2 CR, or use the giant template two up a creature 2 size categories?

Or does the system break down if used like this?

Simple traits are best used when they're handling simple changes. That more or less means only one simple trait at a time. The more you add, and the more you stack, the more your monster's stats might start to creep out of expected CR zones. You can certainly do it, but it's probably better simply to rebuild the monster by advancing its size or HD manually at that point.
